We all deserve to live unapologetically in homes that reflect who we are. Instead of a cookie-cutter approach, we crave spaces that make us feel secure and connected, nurtured and enriched. Individual journeys to 15 truly unique homes that are authentic reflections of the people who inhabit them, from an art-filled city terrace to a magical seaside shack and a 1970s-era palace in the 'burbs. Practical tips on such topics as choosing a palette, balancing function and style, and living better with 'stuff' show you how to imbue your space - whether a rented apartment or a cottage in the country - with the essence of you. Individual is a stunning reminder that you don't need a bulging bank account or an award-winning architect to create an authentic space in which you can thrive.
This was far better than I expected. The writing wasn’t brilliant but it was good enough and had some handy little pointers. The concept is a very welcome one, and for the most part I thought it was done well. All sorts of different people from different backgrounds; some home owners, others renters; families, couples, singles.
Great to get out of my own little bubble with like minded people and learn about other people’s tastes and preferences.
Exactly what the title says, inspiration rather than rigid rules, via portraits of a variety of homes including the author’s own. Quite a few rural hideaways, but some city & suburban bolt holes too. Also some useful tips on things such as lighting, displaying collections, etc. But really, this is a book for browsing through idly, enjoying the colourful photos....
An enjoyable read, great formatting too - a good balance of texts and images. The home owner stories were interesting. Love the country / cottage style interiors.
Really enjoyed this book. Like most interior design books this looks amazing. It stands out, though, in meeting its brief so brilliantly. A celebration of homes, homeowners and interior design shaped by creativity, individuality, meaning and authenticity. Structured around 15 case studies featuring diverse homes and homeowners. Each one ends with practical advice and ideas about how to ‘bring more of yourself into your home, however that may look or feel.’
