About the author

Melvin Howard Tormé, nicknamed The Velvet Fog, was an American musician, known for his jazz singing. He was also a jazz composer and arranger, a drummer, an actor in radio, film, and television, and the author of five books. He co-wrote the classic holiday song "The Christmas Song" (also known as "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire") with Bob Wells.

I didn't like his singing and I didn't like his book. Sometimes Hollywood tries to make someone into a multiple threat...he can sing, he can act, he can dance, he can write, he can produce, he can direct! And in the end, that star winds up being mediocre at everything.

Torme's book is very flat and bland. It lacks emotion and the plot moves so fast if you blink you'll miss it. The characters weren't fleshed out and neither was the plot.

He should've stuck to singing.

Read this as I was in the mental hospital for 5 days and read it in 3. It really was captivating to me as I am a musician and love jazz music. It’s just entertaining and it’s cool to see a book written by one of my favorite singers too. Long live
