She just wanted to save her people. Instead, she got them killed.
Alyss grew up in a Society-run compound, conditioned to believe she’d be embedded in an android body when she turned eighteen. That is, until she learned the truth.
When rescued by a band of rebels who resisted the Society’s genocide, she thought she’d gained her freedom. She’d finally found people who cared about her, a dramatic change from the androids who raised her.
Except the Society didn’t intend to let her go. When Alyss found they’d implanted a tracking device inside her, one which led the Society straight to the rebel community, she was devastated.
Now, an unexpected ally and a second Society attack culminates in Alyss finding herself outside the wall surrounding the Society’s city. Her mission: locate a group of people who will help her rescue her new community.
But the miles of wasteland between are fraught with danger. Even Alyss can survive the cold, the Society’s machines still pose a threat.
If she fails, the last of the humans inside the Society’s reach will die.
If she succeeds, she’ll have to answer the question: what makes someone a person?
I hate that it is over, but it was too good to put down! Maybe now I can get some sleep at least. I am really falling for these characters. I am excited to see how it plays out for them.
