Red Dragon MC #1

Her Wild Ride

Rate this book
I’m not a hero. I’m a bad dude who’s done bad things. And the sooner she understands that, the better off we’ll be.

I’ve just got out of prison and I’m running from my MC, so my step-sister’s best friend has agreed to drive me across the country.

Summer’s my ride. That’s all. But she captivates me, and I don’t have a damn clue why. She’s a distraction I can’t afford.

Is it because I’ve been told she’s forbidden?

Is it because she’s preppy and freakin’ beautiful, so not a part of my world?

With every mile of our trip, every spark of connection, she seems to inch closer to me. The temptation is too much to resist.

But she has no idea just how dangerous life would be with me. I broke club rules. I betrayed my brothers to save a woman’s life. If the Red Dragons find us we’ll be in trouble. And if I give into my desires, she’ll be in deeper than she realises…

This is the first in the Red Dragon MC series featuring an addictive alpha biker. Guaranteed HEA, no cliffhangers and no cheating. Fans of Kristen Ashley, Joanna Wylde and Madeline Sheehan will fall in love.

Being a massive fan of Sons of Anarchy I was really excited to read this book and it did not disappoint!
Niyol has recently been released from prison and has decided to travel to California to escape his old motorbike club, escaping from the troubles caused by his old man. Summer is his chauffeur for the journey and this is the story of their steamy adventure.
This story has it all! Tension, passion and thrills galore. (Im)patiently waiting for the next one in the series!

‘This woman…every goody-two-shoes, sweet, innocent inch of her, did not want to know who I was. And it was my job to make sure she felt the same way.’

Her Wild Ride by Heather Van Fleet is our first book by this Author and we fell in love with her writing and her characters. This story really is a story of two halves. The first half is a slow burn romance between two people from very different walks of life. They are placed in a situation of close proximity, over a lengthy road trip, where the author does a stellar job of establishing a growing connection by fleshing out her characters. Their past, present and their need for new beginnings.

‘The moment I sat across him in that booth last night, I had him pegged. Tormented and broody, secrets running amok in his head, angry at the world, but willing to give it a shot regardless. In a way, Niyol and I were kind of alike. I, too, wanted a new shot at life. A shot where I could just be me, forgoing my past and my pains for a chance at reinventing myself. Who I was as a woman, most of all. No longer would I be someone’s second in life.’

Beginning the trip as two strangers, Niyol and Summer have a very standoffish relationship, their only common ground being a mutual friend. Embarking on a road trip with a complete stranger in search of a holy grail of personal escape, change, and self-analysis, Niyol, and Summer make a wealth of discoveries both personal and of each other. There was an abundance of push-pull, great banter, angst, and sexual tension. We fell in love with both of them, championing their love and survival once back in the path of the Red Dragon MC.

“Two lost people, coming together to find a little light at the end of our dark tunnels.”

This wasn’t a typical MC romance, well, not like one we’ve read before. Rather than jumping straight into the MC life, Her Wild Ride is all about the characters, with the MC world set as a background until the latter part of the story. We loved this story-telling and truly connected with both Niyol and Summer, individually and as a couple. We wholeheartedly believed in their ‘opposites attract’ romance, so when the MC world caught up with them we felt all the angst and emotion.

“Club life is different, Sum. It’s a brotherhood. A family. We don’t fuck around and we don’t walk away. Not like I did.”

Whilst we loved the slow burn, we did think the latter part of the story felt a bit rushed in comparison. It was so good we wanted more of the gritty and dark MC. In a way, perhaps at the end, Her Wild Ride suffered the ‘first book in a series’ syndrome? Worldbuilding and character development are not always given equal attention so one or the other is likely to suffer. However, despite this, we fell in book love and cannot wait for the next book in this series. Fans of Kristen Ashley will definitely get that ‘special’ feel when reading Her Wild Ride which can be read as standalone.

“I was falling in love with her. But was it too late?”

Niyol is fresh out of a stint in prison and looking for a new start far away from his MC life and his rotten bastard of a father. When his sister’s best friend offers to drive him to California, he isn’t happy about it but with no other options he has so suck it up and take it.

Summer is fresh out of an engagement and looking to figure out what she wants to do with her life now that her cheating ex is out of the picture. The road trip was supposed to be closure, finally closing one chapter of her life to start a new one. But Niyol is surly, closed off and knows just how to push her buttons.

Neither expected to find a romance that sparks so hot or that complicates so much of their lives.

Niyol might be ready to leave his past behind but his club isn’t so forgiving or forgetful. When trouble follows him and puts Summer in danger, Niyol has to decide whether he really means to cut all ties to his old life, and leaving Summer behind or if his MC can be trusted to have his back one more time and manage to keep the girl.

This had a definite YA feel to it with the angst, drama and bittersweet romance. I’m still a bit undecided how I really feel about the ending, it felt so anti-climatic and rushed. The issues that Summer had when she first fell into a relationship with Niyol were never really addressed. It felt like she just buried her head in the sand and decided to avoid conflict and just go with whatever Niyol decided.

Her legit concern to being second best in his life, after the club and club business was a huge deal to her and in the end, she just folds and accepts this is the price to pay to be with him???? I expected a confrontation or a huge heart to heart talk between them but in the end, there was nothing. I’ve read MC romances and while the club and the brothers are important, the Hero always makes it a point to place his loyalty to his heroine above that, so why couldn’t Niyol do the same? Definitely needed more closure when it came to these real issues.

The whole Maya thing felt like drama for the sake of drama and the angst it created also didn’t really get addressed. *sigh*

This was another so-so read for me . . . I think I detect the early symptoms of a reading slump coming on :(

Oh my godddddd please tell me there is going to be a sequel?!

Sunk 4 hours of my life into this and ignored all my adult responsibilities for the afternoon because I HAD to find out how Niyol and Summers story turned out.

Everybody loves a bad boy with a heart of gold and that is Niyol down to the bone - he would have anyone swooning over him!!

Niyol and Summer are from two complete opposite walks of life but somehow seem to be the perfect fit for one another.

Honestly couldn’t stop smiling the whole way through this sexy, funny, loveable and also dangerous love story!

And oh god the drama. I need answers!! What happened to Lisa and Charles?? I need more of Summer and Niyol and the house he’s going to build. I just need more 😭💕😂

Definitely not the last I will be reading from Heather 😍

Well the Sizzler Alert wasn't there for show ;-) Oh my god, what a wonderful story. I've read the Reckless Heart series of Heather and those guys where kind of cute. But not Niyol, nuh-uh. He is a bad ass biker, member of the Red Dragon club, just fresh out of jail. Full of scars and tattoos and dark and broody.
And we have cute as a rainbow, Summer, a teacher who also trains the cheerleaders at high school. As a favor to her best friend, who is currently on a much needed cruise with her fiance, she agrees to drive her stepbrother across the country. The drive of one week will give Summer a much needed distraction from the fact that her marriage was cancelled last minute because she caught her fiance cheating on her.
However, being stuck in a car with a hot as hell guy, who is too grumpy for his own good? Maybe not such a bright idea... Both Niyol and Summer can't help but feel attracted to each other. And when Summer discovers that the bad guy has a little teddy bear heart beneath the tough exterior and when Niyol discovers that maybe the cheery attitude of the cute girl is nothing more than an armor to the outer world, they connect.
But Summer doesn't know that Niyol's dangerous past is catching up with him and she will end up in the cross hairs. Suspense, laughter, romance and heartbreaking stories! Hold on to your bike and enjoy the ride! Heather has done it again. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

I love a good road trip book, and a guy running from the enemies he made while in his outlaw motorcycle club is a delicious setup. Niyol is the kind of wounded tough guy I just can't ever resist, and his vulnerability makes him utterly irresistible! So happy I got my hands on an early copy of this!!

HER WILD RIDE is exactly that for the reader—a wild ride. Summer and Niyol barely know each other, but for various reasons, decide to share a ride from Illinois to California. As they set off for their destination, they get to know each other, and sparks fly between the teacher, who’s on summer break, and the biker, who’s just out of prison. Ms. Van Fleet perfectly sets up this steamy romance with these two seemingly opposite characters, because despite appearing as different as night and day, on the inside they are both struggling. During the course of their trip, they find that maybe they aren’t so different after all.

Nobody does romance like Heather Van Fleet, and HER WILD RIDE is no exception. The flirty banter, the subtle touches and looks, and of course, the passion and sexy times are brilliantly executed, and kept me swiping through my Kindle wanting more. Niyol is rough around the edges, but when he finally lets go a little and opens his heart to Summer, wow can he be something romantic. And Summer is smart and protective of herself. She’s not going to be someone’s second best anymore. I love that while she is conflicted and emotional on the inside with Niyol, that she’s strong on the outside.

Yes, HER WILD RIDE is a biker romance, but mostly it’s an adventure--not only in terms of Summer and Niyol’s road trip and the plot twists and turns along the way, but in terms of how this unlikely couple fall for each other and resolve their issues to get to their Happily Ever After. Highly recommended for lovers of steamy romance, HER WILD RIDE will have you on the edge of your seat and swooning during your entire read!

A story about an MC? Of course I had to read that. I do know they often have a bad reputation and a lot of it is true, but it’s also true that you should never judge a book by it’s cover. There is that genuine brotherhood and it’s kind of special to know there will always be someone to look out for you.

It’s the first book of a new series and that takes a bit of time to get into. The start is a bit slow but there is enough information to keep you interested. The biggest part of the romance is in the beginning of the book in my opinion. Although there is some left for the rest of the book too, so don’t worry, the action takes place in the second part of the story.

I liked the story that grew between Niyol and Summer, but I loved the MC part.

I am curious to know how it will develop and I have a feeling the MC will play a bigger role now. I hope I am right :). Looking forward to a big dose of badass. 🙂

Anyway, the more the story grew on me, the more I was captivated. 4 stars for this one.

Thank you, Heather Van Fleet, Bookouture and Netgalley.

Where do i start?
This book was the first I've read from this author and it sure won't be my last.
It took me a few days to read more because i wanted to stretch it out because i didn't want to let these characters go.

Niyol and Summer was like chalk and cheese, oil and water you get what i mean, Niyol was a biker and Summer was a teacher who also taught cheerleading but when they was together they was explosive.
Niyol i bloody loved, he blew hot and cold but there was just something about him that drew me in.
Summer she was fiesty, had her moments but they was all accounted for really.

The whole book was great, i feel like i traveled a long journey with these characters and really got to feel them out!
I can't wait to see if more comes of this series!

I received an arc copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. This is not your typical MC romance, however it’s a great start to a new series. Niyol just got out of prison for a crime he didn’t commit (typical right?) but truly he was set up, and what makes it worse, he was set up by his dad. Trying to avoid his old crew upon his release (after narcing on his dad) Niyol tries to move but needs a ride. Along comes Summer who’s recovering from a broken relationship. She’s willing to drive him to California, a place she’s always wanted to go. Upon meeting there’s instant heat but his attitude was truly lacking. At some points you could almost hate Niyol, but along the way there’s these little glimmers of the good within. Their trip is not easy with weather woes, car trouble, and friends of Niyol’s dad out for revenge but thei relationship strengthens with each trial they go through. This story has a nice balance of heat, intrigue, suspense and your typical bad-boy troubles. It’s the start of a new series and I hope book two is coming out soon. 5 stars

I need more of Summer and Niyol. On the run after a stint in prison from an MC that doesn't want him back, Niyol has no choice but to road trip with a waitress named summer to San Diego. Summer jumped at the chance to help her best friend out by getting him there but her own reason to go are her own. These two learn a lot about each and Niyol faces a ghost from the past. I'm really looking forward to seeing what is next from this series. This is my first Heather Van Fleet book and I'm excited to read more

Her Wild Ride is the first book in Heather Van Fleet's Red Dragon MC Series. This is Niyol and Summer's Story and is told from both point of view.

He's a bad boy, she's a good girl.
He's on the run from his MC club.
She's on the run from her past.
Two strangers heading in the same directions.
Looking for distraction.
With nothing but a long stretch of road ahead of them
Summer and Niyol set out on an adventure they may not be ready for after all..

My Thoughts:

I'm a huge fan of the MC trope so I'm always in search of new Motorcycle Club romances. There was a point in my life when I would search and read all the MC romances I could find. I received an advanced copy of Her Wild Ride on Netgalley awhile ago and at one point I tried picking up this book and giving it a read, but it wasn't settling in so I decided to put it aside and read something else. I planned this book back up when I felt that sudden need to read an MC series. Well that time is now and I am so glad I waited to read and review this book.

The first half of Her Wild Ride was my absolute favorite. I loved the push and pull, the sudden build up only to be left hanging on the edge, and the endless tension between Niyol and Summer. The first half of the novel left me feeling cagey while sitting on the edge of my seat.

Summer and Niyol couldn't be more opposite even if they tried. Summer is the good girl with a career in teaching, a rich father, and a seemingly put together life. While Niyol is the bad boy ex-con on the run from his former motorcycle club for ratting out his deceitful and evil father who also happens to be the President of the Red Dragons MC. There's something about 'opposite attract' novels that send my heart pumping and my anticipation skyrocketing. I love the endless drama that these novels bring. The hurdles the love interest's have to jump over in order to prove their worth. I love everything about it!!

I also loved the fact that the majority of this novel is based around a road trip! I loved the sense of adventure throughout this novel. You never know where they would end up and what trouble would follow them. It was an all around epic adventure.

I decided to rate this a four star instead of giving it the full 5 because I felt the ending was a bit rushed. I needed a little more depth in order to keep the connection I had with these two characters that I felt at the very beginning. Towards the ending the connection started to fade a tad bit. I just needed a little more from these two.

Overall, I really enjoyed Her Wild Ride by Heather Van Fleet. I loved the turmoil, the mystery, and the endless sexy tension. Summer and Niyol's story was a great adventure full of incredible highs and indescribable lows. I can't wait to see what's next for the Red Dragons MC series!

Her Wild Ride is a bad boy good girl grumpy and sunshine story. There's drama and heartbreak, humour, love, revenge and forgiveness, bikers and a little bit of spice.
Easy to read, quick and engaging story that filled some free time perfectly.

This was such an enjoyable read! Niyol has just been released from prison and he’s on the run from his former motorcycle club because he broke their rules. Summer, his step-sister’s best friend, has agreed to drive him across the country but she doesn’t know that he’s on the run.

Niyol and Summer are complete opposites. He’s a biker who has just served time in prison, she’s a teacher who writes cheers for the school cheerleaders. There was so much chemistry between the two of them and it was there from the very first moment they met. I really like the whole opposites attracting thing and Heather Van Fleet writes this really well.

A lot happened in this story, it was like non-stop action from start to finish and it really gripped me. It was a real page turner, always leaving me wondering what was going to happen next. There were a few surprising twists too that I liked.

I loved Niyol. One of the things I real loved about him was that even though he was supposed to be the bad boy type he had a real soft side. Like at one point he’s scared of flying and I just liked how it showed different sides to him and that he didn’t always have to be tough around Summer. Summer was so likeable. She was just a real nice, decent, thoughtful person.

This is the first book in a series and I am really looking forward to other books in this series. There are quite a few secondary characters in this book who I’m hoping will get their own books.

All in all this was a fun, enjoyable read. There’s action, hot sex scenes, great character development and, of course, a happy ending.

Here’s the thing. When I see a tattooed man on the cover, I expect the H to be a badass.

When I read that the story is about MC, I expect the story to be badass.

So when I don’t get badass hero and badass story, I believe I am justified to be disappointed. But a part of me says that I should have known better when the heroine’s name is Summer – the least badass name one could think of.

I was half tempted to stop midway because the story was just too chirpy for my liking.

The badass part only came in much later into the story. Better than nothing, I supposed, and for that I was glad I didn’t stop when I really wanted too. For me, the story got interesting when things start to go down south between Summer and Niyol; especially when Niyol’s crew start to be in the picture.

But what’s frustrating is that I was left hanging to wonder what happened to Lisa and Charles. I want to know so badly!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the online copy. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Well I’ve finally done it! I’ve found something to fill the void that Sons of Anarchy left when the series ended. This book ticked all the boxes, it had just the right amount of everything to make it a perfect smokin’ hot sizzling read!! I cannot wait for the second- I really do hope there are a lot more (hope you’re listening Heather & Bookouture!). So far this is my joint favourite read of 2019!

Niyol's girl calls him out on things, "I rolled my eyes and shoved his shoulders. “You are such a crass, dirty man.” He laughed..." Niyol does love to get his girl going, "she pulled at the end of my hair, not hard. “And you’re being a jerk.” I liked this book, I liked Niyol.

Bay boy Niyol is trying to run from his past in what he hopes will be save the ones he loves. Along the way he battles growing feelings towards the person who is driving him across country. Heather Van Fleet lays the ground work for danger looming in the background that Niyol keeps from Summer who agreed to drive her best-friend's brother across country as a favour.

Not even the best laid out plans work the way we want and Her Wild Ride drew me in wanting to know what else could happen for these two characters no matter how much they tried to fight it. From two separate worlds but pulled together with thoughts of wanting more and seeing if they would manage it together.

The brotherhood of an MC club and how sometimes its stronger then family has me wanting to more about the Red Dragon MC and looking forward to the next book in the series.

Well then, this was a NEW to me author and books! And I gotta say I LOVE BIKER ROMANCE! It's probably on the top 3 favorite ones!

This is a bad boy who is alpha and at times an a-hole. Then he meets the sweet nice girl whom he has an instant attraction to. They can't help but want to be together despite everything else around them. Oh did i mention he just got out of prison?! Yeah! When the heroine decided to drive him where needed to, things get interesting the least. It was really fun to read these characters, the action, the swoony hero, the danger and the oh so passion!!

For a first read, I really enjoyed this book!
I am rating this a 4.5 & recommend it!
HAPPY READING!

**I received a copy of Her Wild Ride from Net Galley and Bookouture in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are mine and not solicited in any way.**

Her Wild Ride: Red Dragons MC Series by Heather Van Fleet is her first in what I hope is a ongoing series. This is Niyol and Summer's story of new beginnings and a future together. Summer will have to learn the ways of being a Biker's Old Lady as well as Niyol finding his way after spending two years in prison. Somehow they'll both have to mesh his re-entry into the Red Dragons after being in prison for a crime that he was set up by his dad and Summer is a middle school teacher and cheer coach wants the big house, kids and picket fence, can they mesh both together?

Niyol has just been released from prison and has planned a road trip from Chicago to California but when his sister Emily sets him up with her best friend Summer they both decide to see if they won't kill each other (She does like Country music) and he wants to smoke (" not even if that's the last cigarette on earth"). She fight for him when some preppy boys decide to rile up Nye and they'll survive a tornado in Colorado. But Niyol's Princess will be there for him when rogues try to end his life twice and maybe they'll have a happy ever after.

A book that definitely lives up to it's title!! From the opening paragraph the reader is locked in to an emotional cross country journey filled with tension, a bad ass hero and the school teacher who tames him. Summer and Niyol might be from two very different worlds but their chemistry was off the charts. This is the perfect beginning to a series that I hope has a lot more books. A must read!!

Niyol and Summer are from two completely different worlds. Odds are, there worlds would have never collided if not for Niyol getting out of prison and needing to move to California to get away from his MC. (Summer is his step-sister's best friend.)
I thought this book was pretty good... a bit different from her previous books - which I was expecting since I read the blurb prior to reading this one.

If you are looking for a story with a road trip, a bad boy/good girl and an MC.... this is the book for you.
This is book 1 in this new series.

Beginning the trip as two strangers, Niyol and Summer have a very standoffish relationship, their only common ground being a mutual friend. Fans of Kristen Ashley will definitely get that ‘special’ feel when reading Her Wild Ride which can be read as standalone.

meh.... just couldn't get past the I want you, but I can't. wash and repeat. I just didn't like the characters. The writing was ok, but I have read hate/love books much better and I have read MC books with so much more. Yes there is action at the very end. I guessed some of the information and I just knew the bad guy was going to try and get his revenge.

OK read. Not bad but not great. I usually can read a book in about 2 days I had so much trouble slogging through it. I actually was more interested in my audio book I was listening to then this.

Recieved a copy from the publisher for a honest review.

Wow-Wow-Wow! My first MC Romance and I loved it! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but Heather Van Fleet nailed this one! Summer and Niyol couldn’t be more different but that didn’t keep them from steaming-up the windows on their cross-country road trip. I felt the connection between them even as their differences contrasted drastically in the story. The further I got into the book, the more I realized they’re not that different. Summer had no problem being a badass when she needed to be and Niyol was able to show some vulnerability when he let his guard down. But it’s still an awesome read if you’re looking for opposites attract romance.
Her Wild Ride is hot and sexy with the perfect amount of suspense. It certainly lives up to its name!

Summer did the unexpected, offering to take a biker to California. While I admired her, part of me was just slightly afraid for her. That is until I learned more about Summer. This girl was on a mission.
Niyol is your typical biker, good looking and tough. Not a lots of words, but he does make his point. The result was fun and sexy trip across the country – until there was trouble. The suspense and drama throughout the book left one guessing and giving me a surprise or two.
