While the residents on Beach Drive prepare for the welcomed arrival of a new baby, they are blindsided by the newest resident’s plans to close down Marlow House. No one is prepared for the deadly secrets the new neighbor unwittingly conceals. Walt knows more than he realizes. If he can just remember.
I just never ever get tired of this series and just when I think that the author must run out of ideas- bam- she takes the story in another direction. I have read every book in order and I suggest that new readers to this series does the same as the books are an ongoing chronological story.
I did guess partway earlier on through the book the answer to the murder. That isn't giving anything away because readers realize that there is always a murder. I was completely right as to who was murdered, why, and who the murderer was but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the book one bit. I did want to slap Danielle and Walt's nasty new neighbor who shut down their Bed and Breakfast, but like I said, the author took the story in another direction. The nice friendly ghosts add a lot to this series. And now we have a baby added to the series! I ration how fast I go through the series because I don't want it to end and I don't want to be sitting waiting for another book to be published.
This is the first time in this series I actually was right from the get go. I think the first chapter about Daisy and her father was a give away. But good job making Pearl a living nightmare for a neighbor. I was actually glad that they closed down the B & B. And welcome Connor Daniel for joining the series world. Grandma Marie is going to stay around to watch over you.
The twenty first book in the series has Walt and Danielle returning from their honeymoon to find that the Marlow House B&B business license has been revoked because of their mean old lady neighbor Pearl. Her delight in their dismay was shortchanged by the plans that they already made to end the B&B in favor of a new venture. Pearl is a threat to the cats and dogs and just mean spirited to the people in the neighborhood. She gets some karma when two dead bodies are dug up in her back yard. The author(s) gave Heather a great put down line to get at Pearl for threatening Heather's cat. In the meantime Lily's pregnancy is progressing and by the end of the book she delivers a beautiful baby. Fans of the series will love Marie's ghostly presence, especially her gift for Lily.

While Danielle and Walt are away on a much needed getaway, they get a brand new neighbor, except that she isn't very neighborly! She has waited her whole life to buy this house, and she is furious that there is a B & B next door, so she takes the necessary steps to have it shut down! Little does she know, that there are other things Dani and Walt can do with Marlow House and still get the satisfaction they are looking for.
I truly enjoy this series. I have bought all 21 (so far) books in the series. The characters are great and the plots are refreshing. I am looking forward to more books 📚 to be written in this series.
I’m really enjoying this series. Love the characters and love the ghost interactions with them. The cozy mystery part seems like a ‘side story’ though. I wouldn’t mind more of a mystery, but that’s ok.
I am on book 23 of 27 and I have to say, I have not been able to put my Kindle down. This has been a refreshing find for me and I love all the characters in this series, yes, even the bad guys. Bobbi Holmes is now another of my favorites. Through all the books she kept me interested in what was going to happen next. I got the first book free but was more than happy to pay for the remainder of the titles so I would not miss a thing. This is a series if you are into cozy mysteries that you should try and I believe you will be hooked from book 1.
I enjoy this series, and I can't even explain why. They aren't particularly well-written,' and the plots lean toward the formulaic, but I've read all of them, and will probably continue to do so. There's something engaging about the characters, especially Walt, and his relationship with Danielle has finally, thank God, been consummated.
I'm working my way through this series on Audible and, for the most part, enjoying it. Even though the title is "The Ghost and the Baby", it's not until almost the end of the book we have a baby. We found out that Lily was pregnant in the last book so this is mostly her pregnancy but it's really just a brief side note to the rest of the story. It probably should have been titled " The Ghost and the Neighbor's Revenge" or "The Ghost and the Twins"... something like that. Danielle and Walt return from their honeymoon and find that Marlow Bed & Breakfast has lost its business license thanks to their nasty new neighbor. What will they do to carry on or reinvent their business? Meanwhile, old scandals, secrets and murder involving twin sisters are going to be revealed...in nasty neighbor's back yard! Listening to this, rather than reading it I got a little confused about what time period the back story had taken place. It mentions " after the War" and because of Walt and his history I assumed WWI but it was actually WWII. There were are just too many cousins, family trees, sets of two girls as well. I must say, the two families who owned the house next door seemed to all be a nasty bunch. It's no surprise, then, that Mrs. Huckabee is a fruit from a rotten tree and is the way she is.
I love this series, but this episode was a little lacking in the plot department. I get frustrated when I figure out whodunit before the detective in the story, but it's especially frustrating when I figure it out from practically the minute that the murderer was introduced, before there was even a body or even a mystery. It was just so OBVIOUS, but we had to go all 'round the bushes before Danielle figured it out.
And there weren't even any ghosts around to give her help (except for the usual characters) until the very end, when a random ghost appeared to fill her in.
The twin names - Daisy and Maisy - kept me confused. I hate when authors do that.
Lily's pregnancy was a nice touch.
I don't know whether to hate Pearl next door or laugh at her comedic awfulness. She reminds me a LOT of Gladys Kravitz on the old "Bewitched" TV show, such a busybody, always stirring up trouble! It will be interesting to see how she fits into future storylines.
I love this series, but this is one of my least favorite books in it. This felt pretty much like a filler episode. The mystery was easy to solve from the moment the rose bushes were mentioned, even though the family drama was told in a much more complicated way that it needed to be (so many names -similar ones at that, and too much info dumping at once).
Danielle and Walt always make me smile, even if the plot isn't that exciting. They're my favorite cozy mystery couple and that won't ever change! I'm also very happy for Lily and her baby. Pearl is an annoying character and I know that was the intention, but I kept getting frustrated while reading because she wouldn't shut up. I hope she'll either have a change of heart or we'll see very little of her in next books.
Pearl and her roses continue to be a thorny issue. The end ties up the beginning. One twin is disinherited, a rose bush is removed from Pearl's grandmother bed and after a big storm, human bones are found. A cousin removed the rose bush because he believed it could be patented, but it was dead. The disinherited twin (Daisy) assumed the identity of the other (Maisie) to inherit her father fortune after he fell to his death. She said the death was an accident, but she also killed her finance. A fun read as the dialogue is snappy, but also convoluted. What is up with Chris and Heather? Walt is acting more like Danielle's father.

A plot you can see a mile off () and a decidedly un-twisty unraveling of events made this episode of Danielle's life less than a thrill ride. Without the mad-cap humour (ala What the Butler Saw or The Importance of Being Ernest) of the last book, this one was a bit of a dry tale. Danielle didn't even have to lie very much. And where's the fun in that?
Another excellent book about Marlowe House. A new neighbour and inquisitive animals start a mystery that involves an old family. This book certainly continues the murder mystery that is Danielle's house. An old respected daily find themselves at the centre of this murder. Twins, one of whom is dead at the hand of the other, but is the living one who she says she is? An excellent book for all readers of paranormal books
I believe this was my favorite of the series so far. You could sorta guess the true identity of the "bad" guy. But you were having to wait until the end. I thought it was really set with the interaction of Marie, Eva and the baby and with Lily and Ian as his "medium" "aunts and uncles" he'll grow knowing ghost's are real and know not to tell anyone. A child should always be allowed to grow up knowing there may be more out there then we know.
Again, another wonderful mystery in this series. I love the continuing character development and the neighbor, Pearl, adding to a bit of real world neighbor drama to the mix. While I adore the use of Marie and Evie, I do miss the murdered ghost showing up and the ensuing pursuit of the clues to find out what happened. I hope the series will go back to that. It's fun when the Ocean Drive Ghost Gang get together and solve mysteries by piecing together the clues.
This was another winner. I love the characters in this series. We have a new baby for Lily and Ian. This book was great.it bought forth another killer and buried the bones found .. I highly recommend all their books and different series of both Authors. They write wonderful characters and great storylines in every book. Diana Romano
Oops! I didn’t realize this was book #21, no wonder I was confused about Walt 😂 I’m technically supposed to have read book 4 next, holy Jupiter!
This was a fun one, I really enjoyed the backstory of the twins and thought that their story alone would make a great book. As in just the story of their lives without being part of ghosts and current time. Anyway, this is a light fun read. You may figure out “whodunnit” right away, but it’s still fun to read the whole thing.
This is one of the best ghostly mystery series I've read!
Having read every book from #1 there isn't too much more I can say. I love all the characters and the story line in this book. Even though Pearl was a mean person she's quite hilarious. I hope Max pulls some really good pranks on her in future books! Can't wait for #22 in August!!
I've just finished reading book #21 and hated to come to the end. I've come to know all the characters intimately and feel like they are real friends. Bobbi has a way of making the stories flow easily through the lives of the characters. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series
Up until this book, I have loved this series -- it's light-hearted, fun and quick to read. This particular book in the series felt more like a "filler" book to satisfy a publisher rather than something the author actually enjoyed writing. I await the next book in August 2019 to see if the author comes out of this slump.
The Ghost and the Baby (Book 21) By Bobbi Holmes, Anna J McIntyre
Five stars, again cute mystery, next door neighbor Pearl is a new character a nosey, mean woman.. Danielle helps solve this mystery that happen in Pearls back yard.. Mystery that happens years ago.. Nice ending with the birth of Lilly 's baby..
Good, and typical. I've just finished reading the entire series from the first to most recent. I'd very much like to have a map of Fredrickport. I do enjoy the expanding list of characters, but wonder why we never hear about Danielle's neighbors on the other side. I love the way the characters grow, as people do tend to, and how no rules about the afterlife are hard and fast.
This was not my favorite of the series because if felt a little repetitive and over-explanatory in parts. I don't feel like any of the characters progressed on their personal journeys in this book, but I still finished it in about a day and am going to read the next one. Overall, it's a weaker book in a strong series.
Oh this was so good.....I loved the twist and turns it made. Was hard to tell who was telling the truth and to follow all the family trees!!! I can’t wait for the next one. And Pearl.....I see more trouble ahead for neighborhood!!!!! Happy Reading :)
I Love the whole concept of people who can see and talk to ghosts, ghost relatives sticking around to help the ones they love, and a truly great mystery that has many interesting layers, never a plain straight forward who done it here. Great book and series.
