My name is Pamela, and I am the strongest witch the world has ever seen. Only I’m not just a witch, I’m an elemental, and that truth makes me a target and a threat.
The elementals of this world are done hiding in the shadows. And there is a faction of them who want to rule our world. They want to put the humans beneath their heels, and they want all the power to themselves.
Standing between them and their goal are only two people, two that still hold a connection to Spirit, the key to stopping them. Myself, and my father.
But the elementals we face are no fools.
They’ve taken the most precious thing from us both.
A child who could be everything they need to force all the elementals to bend a knee.
A child whom I’ve always known was special.
They’ve taken Frost.
If I have to break the world again to find him, I will.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.
I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)
Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.
I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)
As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.
Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.
Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.
I wanted to like this more. In some ways, what I wanted to happen did indeed happen but in so many ways, it disappointed me. There were times the story felt a bit rambling for lack of a better word. Frankly the whole darkness thing with Pam grew a bit tiresome back in the Rylee series and this book was a return to that but exponentially more.
I know I’m being vague and that’s intentional in order to avoid spoilers but suffice it to say, this book was very much a lukewarm read for me. Even Alex, who I always loved was a bit of a disappointment in this book.
Ah well, can’t love everything, right? Three stars.
This book keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Pamela faces the ultimate painful challenge. Everything she has had to face up until this point has been a training ground for an epic showdown, spiritually, emotionally and physically.
Elemental Witch took me on an unexpected and thrilling journey. I highly recommend this series.
Shannon Mayer has done it again! Elemental Witch took me on an emotional roller coaster and where this book ended was totally unexpected.
We rejoin Pamela after her defeat of the first witch, the loss of Mac (her love and one of her familiars). She has been healed by her father (Raven) and she sets out once again to save her family. Her half brother Frost.
This wonderful author weaves the worlds of Larkspur and Rylee back into Pamela’s story beautifully.
However the joy of being reunited with these characters and their worlds is shredded by the unfolding of Pamela’s fate. As an avid fan of Shannon’s I can honestly say that I never saw this twist coming and it is brilliant.
If you love reading stories where you instantly love or hate the characters, devour the words, lose track of time, become immersed in their world, can’t wait for the next book and curse the author for your heartbreak and the twist and turns in the plot that you never saw coming, you will love the Questing Witch Series.
Did not like this ending at all!!! (Spoiler alert!!!!!)
I'm extremely disappointed in this book. Pam has been through so much in her life, and now it ends with her being the host for evil?!?!? Seriously? What happened to the happy endings you usually write? I do not like this turn at all. I wish I never would've started this series and would've just stopped the Tyler stories with the end of the original series. I have loved every moment of these series until this book. All questions can say about it is boo!!!!
I hated this book and what the author did to one of my favorite characters in this storyline. If you want a good vibe from your book, don't read this. To the author, How could you! I'm done, I have to walk away from you and it makes me sad. PEACE!
I hate what you did to my favorite character all the time I spent engrossed in this story in these books, for what? This was a craptastic thing to do to her.... REALLY!
Wow! This is the best one yet! I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole book. There is so much going on, but I don’t do spoilers, so all I can say is WOW! The characters are all on point, the world building is great, and the action is nonstop. If you want a thrill ride read the latest installment of the Questing Witch series. (You need to read them in order for it to make sense.) Shannon Mayer has done it again.
Pamela is my favorite character but don’t like the ending
As much as I love Pamela I just can’t give this book 5 stars because of what happens to her and the ending. I also miss rylee and Pamela’s relationship.
Pamela has never been a fave character and I suppose this book went in the logical direction. However, this book was a bit of a mess, I think - lots for the reader to just fill in. It is also the shortest of the novels in this universe and I feel like the author wanted to just be done with it and move on to something else - just like I do. bah.
What happens if the good guys don’t get to win or if the villains aren’t all evil? What do you do when the truth you thought you knew turns out to be more than you imagined? Pamela has always struggled with both sides of herself, and in the conclusion to her story we see how she faces head on the trials set against her and finds a way to accept the path she is on and take the lead in her own story. Have the tissues handy and steel yourself against the emotions this book will insight in you, it’s a roller coaster ride and it’s worth every guy twisting turn to the end!
This book verse has so far spanned three characters now. First Larkspur, then Rylee, now sort of concluding Pamela. Shannon Mayer is an amazing author. The world is extremely detailed and believable. Spoiler ahead!!!!!
I hate that all the series seem to have bad but good endings. I need Happily Ever After. The whole flavor of the book foreshadowed a bittersweet ending, mostly bitter. Because of that it took me a long time to read because the story would hit a hard part so I'd put it down. Even with that I love this series. I want to say I'll continue with the next proposed series in the afterword but my emotions are confused at the moment. Still an absolutely amazing series with an intense and powerful conclusion.
Watch out for whiplash with twists and turns like this!
In what is to be the final novel in Pam's epic journey (or is it), Shannon Mayer does not disappoint the readers who have come to expect the unexpected from her story lines. Pam must navigate the world she helped rend and then repair without the help of her familiars, as she sets out to rescue a kidnapped child before the Elementals decide he is too dangerous to live. What she doesn't realize is that many of the troubles she thought were behind her are lying in wait for a moment of weakness. She has always struggled with a seed of darkness and the seductive nature of that part of her power--but this time, she must make a choice that no one will understand in order to make the world whole. Will the love of her family be enough to save her? Only time will tell--and we will have that time, because while this may be the last time we see Pam, it won't be the last time we see who her journey forces her to become. Grab your copy and call in sick to work--you and your feels are going to need some time...
Holy guacamole Batman! This is the final book in The Questing Witch series and Shannon Mayer did not disappoint! I had to wait a day before I could write this review because it left me with too many feels. I am happy, angry and sad at the same time. This book took me on a different path than I thought it would. Not that I minded but I’m just a little “Wait, what’s happening? Noooooo Pamela don’t make that choice”. But by the end I realized there could be no other ending for such an epic journey. I certainly hope this isn’t the last we will see of Pam, Alex and Rylee. Can’t wait to read what else Shannon Mayer has in store for us!
The very first moment I met Pam I knew she was going to be a character to watch. The more I read about her the more I wanted to know. She’s a force to be reckoned with, taking on some vey powerful characters in all the books she’s part of. Shannon Mayer has a way of writing characters that you want to not only love but ones that you want to know, be friends with, have them in your daily lives. Pam is a representation of who I aspired to be a teenager and grew into the powerhouse woman who rivals the other female leads in Mayer’s books. There’s really not much I can say about the story without giving anything away so I’ll just say this. Read this book. When you’re done, put it down, wait a few days, pick it back up and read it again. This book is the perfect representation of why I love Shannon Mayer so much!
I was just stunned, absolutely stunned, at the end of this one. It’s not often this happens, but it did. Am I happy with the ending? Yes, just not in the way I expected. I admit that Pam is not my favorite character, but I’ve grown fond of her over the books. This ending is fitting. I really can’t say much as I don’t want to spoil it, but I’m hoping we’ll see more of her in the next books coming and maybe change her outcome slightly. It was wonderful seeing Rylee, Liam, etc. and I can’t wait to see more. Read this book and go through all the emotions like I did! I highly recommend this book and was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in an ending of a story. It sucked. Well and truly sucked. I adored the Rylee series. I love Pam. This was not where I wanted this to go at all.
The first quarter was alright. Then it got weird. Then it got freaking crazy shit. And then it ended badly. I don't mind a villain. I don't mind a darker ending. But the way the character got there was just bullshit. First she sleeps with Alex but has no memory of it because hey guess what - it wasn't her, it was the witch who's possessing her. Second she sleeps with some random fucking guy that just appeared out of nowhere and was so totally unnecessary. Then she's FUCKING PREGNANT with that dude's child, she LIES to Alex and MANIPULATES HIS MEMORY to THINK THE FUCKING KID IS HIS. What kind of bullshit is this? I am angry. I'm invested. I've read a million fucking books. Good fucking books to get to this book and these last four books have not delivered.
I just wanted Pam and Alex to live happily ever after. Was that too much to ask for? Apparently so.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Talk about reeling with so many emotional feels right now. wow, just wow. Shannon Mayer is just magically magnificent and Elemental Witch was a truly amazing story.
Pamela has defeated the First Witch, lost Mac and is still standing ready to fight for the world again and again. Pamela's strength of character is truly awe-inspiring, she will give up everything to save the world, and the world will never truly know everything she has given up to make everyone safe.
There always needs to be balanced in the world Pamela is the 'Balance'...
I really loved the multiple POV's reading the story from Pamela, Alex and Rylee's POV seriously brought much more to the book as a whole and of course, having Rylee back was just warming to my heart as she will always be my number one badass female character.
Where this story finished has my mind reeling with where Shannon is going to take us next and I just can't wait.
This was the last book in the series, and I was really nervous. The previous book in the series have been so good and I just couldn't see how I would be happy with any ending. I shouldn't have feared, not a bit. This book was everything I hoped it would be and more. Twisting and turning, it was an amazing adventure and I feel so grateful to have been along for the ride. If for some reason or another you haven't read this series, you are seriously missing out
Wow, wow, wow!! I’m not sure where to start!! Throughout Pamela’s journey we watched her grow to the person she is today. This may be the best book of this series! It is epic, and I absolutely loved riding this journey with the gang. I loved the multiple POVs. Don’t miss out on this series, Shannon Mayer does not disappoint!! Be ready to ignore the world and be prepared to jump into Pamela’s world!! I was super stoked to see Rylee!! I absolutely love her!
It’s taken me a while to ruminate on the contents of this book before I could leave a review. The series is still SOOOOO DARK, and this last book is no exception. There’s a conclusion; kind of, and after letting things settle for me after reading it, I can say I am satisfied with the ending and wouldn’t be upset if this series didn’t continue for much longer.
This book was so difficult for me to read because it’s like a train wreck. Not the writing, or content really, but Pamela struggles so much and turns on her friends and family to do what she thinks is right; yet she has a warped sense of reality due to (a plot twist). There’s a duplicity to the book since you get the situations from Pam’s perspective, and also Alex’s. It did take me a while to understand what was really going on because my gut instinct is to trust the main character’s point of view. It’s what I’ve been trained to believe in so many books. The fact that it isn’t is pure writing genius; but you can’t help but cringe when you see the world through her eyes though you know what she’s doing is wrong on so many levels. This hasn’t been my favorite series of Mayer’s, but I appreciate the writing style, plot, and storyline. Mayer never takes the easy way out, and this is no exception. She really is brilliant. Twisted; but brilliant.
What an ending! Ok, ok, ALRIGHT. I know I haven’t been very generous with praise when it came to these books. The writing hasn’t been the best through this series and we barely saw any character growth.... or did we? I felt like this was a fitting conclusion and after some thought, everything felt appropriate in a sense. This book wasn’t perfect (hence the 4 stars, editing errors, lack of growth, what was the point of some characters if they weren’t mentioned again or provided anything else) by any means, but it definitely felt fitting for Pamela and he struggles she’s faced throughout the series as a whole. I have to admit that the back and forth storytelling between the characters and how they perceived what was happening felt a bit disjointed, but it was worth it to learn that it was all part of the grand scheme of things to learn just how far Pamela had to go and how far she’s come. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought she was gonna kill herself and that conversation with Griffin threw me for a loop too. I’m almost impressed enough with this book that I’m willing to read the Rylee books... almost.
This book! This entire series! Holy cow!! What a ride! This one, man where to start? The emotional roller coaster, it takes you for quite the ride, anger, fear, disbelief, tears, happiness. I loved the twists that kept me turning the pages and rooting for Pam and Alex and Oka, then when one of the older character from her own series (Rylee) shows up I almost cheered out loud. I mean come on this all really started with Rylee so to have her here in this book at the end of Pamela's questing witch series, well it was the icing on the cake so to speak. The characters in this book are so well developed that they are easy to picture in your head and the scenes are so well written it is easy to slip right in to it as you read the book. Oh how I hope that this brings on an entire new Rylee series. If you have not read the Rylee series I would start there but you do not have to in order to understand what is going on in the Questing Witch series. I would start with the first book "Aimless Witch"before you read Elemental Witch.
OMG what a ride! I read this book in one sitting as there was no way in this life that I could put it down. The end just torqued me up for whatever Shannon decides to do to these characters next. I’m not sure I even breathed through most of the last half of the book. Shannon Mayer is one HECK of an author. The series started with a character that I felt lukewarm about at best. I still can’t say Pamela is a favorite, but I’d love to see her story resolved happily for her. That may be unreasonable as life isn’t always nice and fair. Choices are made and consequences result. Not everyone has a happy ending. However Shannon resolves this or even if she doesn’t, this was a brilliant ending to the series. If, in fact, it is the end.
There comes a point in every book series where the unthinkable happens: your book love gets killed off... that was where we left off on maze witch, with big ugly heaving sobs (mainly from me) and a lot of WTF?! And then there sometimes comes a point in said series, where the author dangles hope before my eyes. I grabbed that life line... I can’t say anymore on this without a spoiler alert, so be warned! This was an absolutely awesome read for Pamela’s conclusion. Loved every minute of it. No, that’s not entirely true (I hated one part because it made me feel too many icky emotions) but I’ve accepted, when I’m reader mode, that I have to trust things always work out for the best... and you bet they did! Can’t wait for the next awesome series. I’m ride or die for Shannon!
Holy $h!+ on a stick! I didn’t think a book could make me feel so many things at one time! There are a lot of “finally”s in this chapter of Pamela’s story. And as always, it a wild ride with so many twists and betrayals and blind-sides, you can’t stop reading it. The author is a queen of her craft, even if she does like to toy with her readers hearts. My only complaint about this book is that it was too short and I know it will be “too” long for the next installment. For anyone who is interested in this series I highly recommend that you read the Rylee (Tracker) Series first. It will give you a deeper understanding of Pamela’s relationships with the other characters. The Elemental series (Lark) is also recommended.
Shannon Mayer does it yet again!! Just when you think you can't love a character any more-she evolves, and has a sort of reunion with another character that was just as bad-ass and amazing! There isn't a subject or human emotion that this book (the entire series) doesn't make you think about or feel. Facing your fears..staying true to yourself..and underneath all of that is family and love. Like the other books in this series, tears did threaten to come down. To go through Pam's journey with her and see how much she's grown, and the things she's overcome is absolutely incredible. I know that this is the "finale" of this series, but I have a suspicious feeling we will see her further down the line (oh and Rylee!!)
Why are you even reading this?!?! GO READ THE BOOK!!!!!!!
This book was amazing... it has been something completely new to me to watch a character grow from a child into an adult over two separate series, to watch her and her magic mature. To watch her fall in and out of love have her heart full and broken. Pamala is an amazing character she is feisty, smart, clever, as foul mouthed as Raylee and just as kick ass. The plot and world Shannon Mayer has built for Pamela and the other charters is forever changing so there is always something around every corner to twist the story and what an amazing story it was. Truly brilliant and even though this is the last book in this series I hope to see Pamala and Raylee in the next.
Super disappointing ending to the series for me. And she ends it with an opening to bring back Rylee Adamson!! I loved the Rylee Adamson series, but ... enough!!
One of the reasons that I liked this series was that it was part of the same world, many of the same characters, but it was still a different story.
So specifically, what I had an issue with is that Pamela behaves out of character. She tells Alex she loves him, then she leaves him and IMMEDIATELY takes up with someone else. It simply didn't make sense.
The story seemed to be less about Pamela, and more as a springboard to bring back Rylee. It wasn't all bad, it just didn't live up to the other 3 books in the series.
This is going to be less of a review and more of an emotional therapy outlet. I have followed this world since the Rylee Adamson books and to read them in chronological order, I read all the Rylee books, the last two of The Elemental series and all of The Questing Witch Series and let me tell you....this ending sucked....in the best possible way...sorta.
I am just not OK, in fact, I am not sure how I feel. I am mad, sad, in need of a follow-up, scared of a follow-up and just in need a hug.
Great story, kept me guessing and holding out hope...of course, to be dashed but really what should I expect. Sigh....thanks for letting me vent.
Hmm. I had frustrations. I am not thrilled with much of Pam's journey, but overall I guess her stories ended up in an almost acceptable way. If you're curious if it's worth it, yes. And assuming you've read Rylee and Larks related series' then, hell yes. She teased future Rylee adventures. That alone is worth it even if you dislike Pam's conclusion. And to be clear without spoilers, I didn't mind her conclusion. I just can't consider this thee conclusion.
Stop here....The following could be considered spoilerish....
But if you like teasers.....
All that magic and she's still technically a ticking timebomb? That's the best she gets after all that?
It is depressing to criticise Shannon Mayer's novels as I have loved so many of them. Sadly, I feel that these 4 books are 2 novellas padded out to 4 novels. The re is so much padding, internal monologuing, unnecessary excurses and downright boring bits that I can only assume there was not enough original material to justify 4 books. Some bits are really good, exciting and well written. However, most feels like it was shoehorned in to meet the target words. Just like the Desert Cursed went from being a trilogy - which would have worked perfectly - to a 9 book series! I hope that she resists this in the future because she is an excellent novelist.
