All Nadira Holden wants to preserve the last of her soul and create a new life free of magic, demons, and war.
Her involuntary bond with a succubus makes her desires impossible. The threat of this disgruntled demon possessing her urges Nadira to find the succubus's missing body.
Nadira's only hope of avoiding demonic possession lies with Derek, the only demon she can tolerate without slaying. Except, his hands are full trying to secure his recently-inherited title of prince. Desperate, Nadira agrees to help Derek secure his title by experimenting with the deadly magic they once generated in exchange for his aid in her investigation.
To untangle herself from the evil that surrounds her, Nadira must be willing to betray her friends and get cozy with her enemies. She may even have to do the unthinkable: break the peace treaty that allows demons and humans to coexist. If she can't toss aside her scruples, Nadira may not make it out of this ordeal with her soul intact.
Azaaa Davis is an International Bestselling author of urban fantasy & paranormal romance novels. ✨
She fell in love with reading as a high school freshman and continues to read, write, and draw today. Her background in social work helps her portray realistic characters in otherworldly and sometimes terrifying situations. A New York native, Azaaa currently lives in New Hampshire (USA) with her husband and daughters.
Azaaa is working diligently to finish writing more fantasy novels while raising her daughters. Thank you for showing an interest in her stories!
A continuation from Book 1, this dealt more with Nadira's emotional well-being and her feelings of loneliness in an unknown world. Being resurrected after 25 years of her death, everything had changed and she no longer had a place in such a world where the demons and humans lived in relative peace after signing the treaty. What was a demon hunter to do when demons were protected by law?!! And yes, she was soul bound to a succubus Roquelle, a demon. Can you see how boxed in she was?
My second book by author Azaaa Davis, this was a rocking ride from beginning to end. I liked Nadira more in this though she was struggling in most parts. There was growth in her characterization in this book. I liked the power struggle within herself when the succubus wanted to take control over body and unleash violence. She did exactly that in a couple of place.
Old characters like Leo and Devon and Derrick returned and new characters like Shaun were introduced. The book was an easy read, took me a couple of hours. Emotions of Nadira spilled over, I wished she would find herself soon as I hated to see her doubting herself. My wishes were fulfilled in the end. Seeing a whole Nadira emerge out of the cocoon was a sight to behold.
Well, my niggles too popped out with this Nadira. After so much of an emotional turmoil, the book ended in a cliffhanger when I wanted to see her kickass self, but that was probably left for book 3. For me, this book was just a pathway for the next one.
Array of emotions in a fantasy and altered dynamics in a new world, new symbiotic connections formed, old ones breached, great action scenes with very few romantic ones, and inner acceptance made this a great breakfast read. On to my next.
I love when I find a series where I enjoyed the second book more than the first and that is what happened with That Night by Azaaa Davis.
That Night picks up where This Time left off, so you will want to read them in order.
A little recap: Nadira Holden had risen after twenty five years of being dead, to a world in which demons and humans lived together in ‘harmony’, or so the humans think. Nadira is possessed by a succubus and struggles to keep a leash on ‘her’. The succubus doesn’t mind killing off her friends, but it breaks Nadira’s heart.
Well, I must say, I am lost in her world, walking with the demons and humans, and wondering who controls what.
Nadira learns many things about herself and what she is capable of when her and her succubus work as one. When their life is on the line, we see who stands strong.
We are, however, left with a cliffhanger (frowning) and I plan to be around for These Moments, the third and final book of Nadira’s story.
That Night was very much a personal journey for Nadira, an almost coming-of-age and definitely one of spiritual enlightenment. It was also a hard fought journey, fraught with heartache and littered with demon-ish deals. Nadira really is stuck between a rock and a hard place. One side don't trust her, the other side she doesn't trust, so finding help and information is risky and requires a leap of faith.
I really enjoyed it though I do feel that the world building needs a little more strength to it. Some plot elements were only half explored, or lightly glossed over, others were thrown out there and then ignored. I presume these will be picked up in book 3 but I would query why her "mother's" invitation was mentioned right at the beginning of the book yet never really explored any further. A little like a maze with sudden dead ends, several story elements seemed to peter out, not really adding depth or growth to the story.
However the overall plot, pace and writing were all very good and, unlike several other recent reads, the book did manage to hold my attention from start to finish. And what a finish it was - though now I'm hoping the author manages to complete book #3 soon because I really need to know what happens next!
That Night: Nadira Holden Demon Hunter. By Azaaa Davis.
This novel has an amazing plot and storyline, where we meet a young woman who had spent her younger years training to be a Demon Hunter. Through a set of very unusual events, Nadira finds herself bound to a demon (a succubus) who has just as much influence and power over her body and spirit as her natural self does. Without giving to much away, having a loving relationship suddenly becomes almost impossible, due to two major issues. A succubus gains their strength and power from having sexual encounters with humans and tends to devour them, so letting anyone close to her in any emotional sense becomes extremely dangerous. Also through prior events Nadira has been brought back from death years after everyone who is important in her life have gotten on with their lives, changing where she believed her life would travel. So Nadira finds herself in a very lonely and self centered world, trying to protect anyone who comes within her friendship field by pushing them away. Through events where her demon causes intense suffering to Nadira our heroine suddenly finds herself in league with a high level demon that has an intense history with her succubus, so through amazing descriptive narration this author guides Nadira through an unbalanced political friendship. Azaaa Davis has created an account of the thoughts, feelings and emotional actions of the other half of Nadira (Roquelle) in such detailed description you find yourself disliking what Roquelle does to our main character, but can also feel somewhat empathetic towards her, realising she’s suffering just as much, only in different ways, as Nadira. I found the intriguing plot that’s developed within this brilliant world, is wound tightly around the main character Nadira who directly effects the different dimensions of both the human race and the world of Demon’s and their evil entities. The human world has accepted the lives of evil beings into our lives. So through the hunger of our world wanting the power they could gain from accepting these beings into our world, Nadira finds herself in the middle of ongoing drama and action that only she can deal with. This book covers such a wide variety of tantalizing circumstances you will find yourself awed at the complexity this author has pulled together into such a fascinating series. Grab your copy TODAY and find a quiet area and join Nadira in her battle of self and those she protects.
This series has been great. Full of energy and magic that excited me with every page turn. I loved the story and can't wait till next part. Thank you Mrs. Davis

Davis pens an incredible story in That Night, the second book in the Nadira Holden, Demon Hunter series. I’ve read book one, and enjoyed it. This is another great story, and I enjoyed how Nadira intended to live a so-called normal life. The characters were remarkable and interesting. This author brings the story to life. The details in the story telling and making Nadira and her battles pull the reader in. The demons aren't just against her, but her ideas and wants to keep what little soul she has left, brings on another journey. The author's technique of intense characters and great plotlines is a gift. It's a great story to follow and try to figure out what will happen next. This author's characters develop and interacts well with the other characters. "Without laying a finger on him, Nadira walked away. She rolled her eyes at his sloppy attempt to attack her. The demon was blinded by his ego and subdued by his own haste. She was so close to the curb— already looking both ways for oncoming traffic— when she heard something whipping through the air from behind her." I look forward to reading more by this author. This book is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews.
Sometimes trying out a new author who starts off with a new series can lead to a massive disappointment. Well Hells Bells that isn't the case with this author. The first book is setting you up!! And I mean that in the best of ways. The back drop is set and then you get to book two and the hammer falls, go ahead author you deserve a mic drop!! Yup if you think book one is all about the set up then this book 2 is all about the action. Now that Nadira knows what has happened and what her mother did to her and why, it's Hammer Time: Can't stop this!!! Yup Nadira does some drastic measures with off the chain results and she just gets deeper and deeper into the stew. There's still plenty of action and yeah what was suppressed is gonna battle to stay that way but drastic measures will cause a reaction and we won't know if it's a good or bad thing until it's too late. Yeah get ready for nail biting, heart palpitating, full on stress sweating and a roller coaster of emotions before it's done. This isn't a standalone it's a cliff hanger so be ready!!
The story That Night is a well-described story but clearly a continuation of a previously published book. Without the knowledge of the earlier story This Time it is difficult to get into the story. You get enough reading instructions to continue the book, but you have to have perseverance.
The story is about a demon hunter, Nadira, who has put down her life's work because she is partly a demon herself. There is also a succubus in her that sometimes comes up and then takes lives to feed herself. Nadira tries to prevent her demon from harming others but cannot prevent a friend being killed by her. Looking for a way to get rid of her succubus, she turns to a prince in the demon world for help I thought the approach to the end worked out well.
The message I got from the story was; Embrace yourself in who you are with all your good but also bad sides

ONE EXCITING ADVENTURE!!! OMG! Man, talk about riveted on a razors edge. A whirlwind of activities and mishaps that keep you flipping page after page catapulting all of your emotions into play. One compelling storyline and sensational plot bring this baby bursting to life beautifully. The characters are authentic, relatable and realistic with personalities and depth that keep you captivated from start to finish. Sparks fly as danger and suspense ensues in epic proportions. Non-stop, action packed, heart pounding, hard hitting adventure that brings all the pieces together for one wild ride. The scenes are so vivid and descriptive it gives the illusion you're right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Remarkable job Azaaa, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
I read the first chapter of this book then stopped to read book one first. I’m glad I did and would highly advise you read the books in order. I loved this book. It was well written and the story and characters were well developed. I loved the character dynamics and their individual personalities. The story was action packed, full of twists and turns and contained lots of emotion, suspense, intrigue and hot chemistry. I would highly recommend this book!! I can’t wait for the story to continue in book three!!

That Night is the continuation of Nadira’s story and has twists and turns, more demons, and explores magic. Filled with a lot of emotions as Nadira tries to fit into this new world she finds herself in and her new role in it, or lack of one. That Night is a heavier story than book 1, This Time. We get to see more of Nadira’s personality as she experiences doubts, suspicions, anxiety, depression, and daily struggles. Written vividly, the series has kept me riveted throughout. I really liked that Nadira is a very strong lead character. This series is best read in order. The story ends in a cliff hanger so I’m looking forward to release of These Moments.
This is a great second book for a new to me author. She pulled me in to this world with the first book and i loved it. This book has everything that I look for in my books.I truly loved the action, romance and the amazing world that the author created. This second book shows us more about the world and the characters in it. I recommend this as a great Fantasy read. Happy Reading!

This book had a lot of emotional highs that kept me wanting to keep reading. Nadira and Roquelle are both interesting POV characters who I like for different reasons (even though Roquelle is evil, I'm hopeful that she'll grow into a good demon). The end came way too soon and left me hungry for more. I really hope the wait for the next book is short.
Yes! Very rarely do the sequels become as good as the first, but in this case I must say it topped it. I felt all the different emotions Nadira experienced. The heartbreak, the lies, even after losing everything including herself, she didn’t break. I saw perfectly why she made the choices she did. There were a lot of twists, turns and wow I didn’t see that coming. I can’t wait to see what happens next! That ending had me yelling not yet first answer my questions!!
Book 2 in the Nadira Holden series. A fun read. From book 1 we know that Nadira has been dead for a while and was resurrected into a world she doesn't recognize. Many things changed. It's great reading how she copes with the changes and what she learns about herself in the process. There's love and pain. There's fighting for her life and then there's depression. Can make a reader feel sad and excited.
An interesting story, that furthers our knowledge of Nadira and what .makes her tick, as well as the world of demons. I enjoyed this read - I've been looking forward to getting to it. If you haven't read Azaaa's first book in this series - you need to so you can enjoy book 2 as much as I did.
I loved this book. I couldnt put it down until i finished it. I likedit better than the first one. That being said... I cannot wait to read the next one.
So many different levels of story happening at once. Definitely need to concentrate to catch them all. May actually read again later to catch full volume of storyline. Which I very rarely do.
Why I chose this book: After This Time, I was eager to read the sequel. A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.
Review That Night picks up right after the end of This Time. Nadira is struggling to find her place as a demon hunter in the modern world where demon hunting is now illegal. She continues to compete with the succubus Roquelle for control of her body. Nadira is uncertain of her emotional relationship with the Demon Duke of New England, but enters into a mutually-useful business deal to help him gain control of Sulyden (the demon realm) and her gain complete control of herself (no more Roquelle-possessions). So, there's illicit demon hunting, otherworldly political intrigue, some questionable romance, and suspense. All good stuff. Oh, and the plot is exciting; Roquelle gives Nadira an ultimatum to find Roquelle's body within in a few short weeks or be possessed by the succubus permanently. Like I said, all seductive bases for an urban fantasy.
What makes That Night compelling and ever so satisfying to read, however, is the character of Nadira Holden. More than anything, it is her personal struggles that make this book well worth reading. The twenty-something demon hunter who drowns her depression in alcohol while pining after a man she cannot have and questioning her choices embodies universal struggles of humanity. It's not the specifics, but the mindset, the setbacks, and the hard-won self-confidence that are relatable. Davis's treatment of Nadira's personal development, both positive and negative, reminds me a bit of Franzen's Patty Berglund in Freedom. Like in Franzen's novel, the storyline is fascinating, but it is the sometimes painful authentic humanity that makes That Night impossible to stop reading.
I can't get into too many specifics without spoilers, so I'll just wrap up and say that That Night is awesome awesome awesome, but I am also reminded of why I like to read old series from dead authors: I don't have to wait with baited breath for the next installment. Do we have a release date for book three yet, Ms. Davis?
I enjoyed the first book more, but I liked this book as well. A LOT happened in the last chapter and I was not ready for the cliff hanger! I can't wait for the next installment! Loving this series!!!
If you’re new to my blog, hello and welcome! I hope you like what you find here. 🙂 A (very) brief introduction about what I normally post here: I am an avid fantasy and paranormal reader, who has recently begun to explore the world of romance.
Why do I bring that up here? Well, because I enjoyed the way that this story handled both the fantastical/paranormal elements as well as the romance within its pages. To see exactly what I mean by that, I highly recommend that you check this series out.
Being tied to a succubus wasn’t easy for Nadira, but she pushed through it to the best of her abilities. Sure this caused her to act in ways she wouldn’t have dreamed of before everything went down, but I really did enjoy seeing the ways in which Nadira was willing to stretch her morals in order to save herself. Not everyone is going to be a self sacrificing hero, and it’s refreshing to read about someone who’s not perfect, who isn’t going to sacrifice themself for the greater good.
On top of all of this, I enjoyed the emotional growth that Nadira went through. It can’t be easy trying to live life a certain way, only to have that choice taken away from you. Or to realize that there’s truly no one in your corner other than yourself. Yet Nadira still manages to grow as a person. She learns more about herself in these pages than some people do their entire lives. What is she willing to give up? What is she willing to fight for? Who does she really want to be? Can she be happy with herself and the sacrifices she’s been forced to make?
There is much more to this story, so much depth and development, but I’m going to leave it up to you to discover for yourself. I hope you have as much fun diving into this world as I did.
The author continues telling Nadira's amazing story. And there is so much to tell. The trauma, the doubts, the suspicions, the inability to fit in combined with a lack of will by her loved ones to accept her, the anxiety, the depression, the pain... so much. There is so much for Nadira to deal with and the author delves deep into Nadira's personality. This book has a slightly different tone for the most part, due to Nadira's difficulties to deal with the real world, her indoctrination as a demon hunter, and the experiences she goes through with the only person willing to help her, who is a demon. Then there is Roquelle, a succubus, and a complete opposite of her. Their struggle at this point reaches new heights and causes so many problems and so much confusion. The author did a stellar job in bringing forward all the feelings, mood swings, weakness, vulnerability and despair Nadira feels. All of it is so palpable, so vivid, so realistic, absolutely amazing. I loved her, hated her, felt pity for her, and cheered for her. I felt Nadira's despair, hopelessness, and loneliness. And then I felt Nadira evolving and growing strong and powerful. It was an amazing journey and I can't wait to see what happens next. A lot remains unanswered, but the most important is resolved, and that is the relationship between Nadira and Roquelle. This continues to be a great, intriguing and gripping series and I'm loving every moment of it. The books should be read in order: This Time (Nadira Holden, Demon Hunter #1), That Night (Nadira Holden, Demon Hunter #2), and These Moments (Nadira Holden, Demon Hunter #3) coming soon.
Azaaa Davis continues to impress in this sequel. I expected an enjoyable read, and I got that plus nonstop action, sizzling romance, and a deeper understanding of the world she's created.
Nadira, now retired from demon hunting, wants nothing more than to get a normal, ordinary job away from demons and monsters and move on with her life. Of course, there's just one little problem.
The succubus she's soul-bonded to.
And the succubus is no longer happy sharing a body--she wants it all for herself.
Engaging characters. Keeps you awake and unable to put down. Spent entire night reading. I tried to put it down to get some sleep but I wanted to keep reading. Wow just Wow!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
After I read and reviewed the first one in this series, I knew I wanted to keep going with it. So I was thrilled when the author offered me the sequel for review as well.
Admittedly, this book isn't quite as strong as the first. It revolves around Nadira attempting to cope with modern life and struggling. In the first book, her emotional turmoil was offset by excellent fight scenes. In this book, nearly the first full half focuses on her depression and struggle. I do appreciate that it's focused on her emotional arc. But it does take awhile for the arc to begin. Nearly a full half of the story goes on before you see movement in any direction.
Fortunately, once the story takes off, it REALLY takes off. The plot isn't afraid to turn things very dark. There was a dreamlike sequence near the end which provided excellent character development (even if it felt like a bit of a jump to get there).
In general, the book didn't necessarily feel like a whole book in itself, but a section of a bigger book. The ending felt cut off a bit too early, like there should have been something beyond the final pages in the story. I'm caught between being excited for the next one and wondering if there's missing pages.
While this book didn't wow me as much as the first, I still have every faith that the story has plenty to recommend it moving forward. The place Nadira comes to and the plots moving forward are intriguing. And I would love to have more insight into the demon world that we got glimpses of this one. I'm prepared for the next book to wow me again!
She had a couple of nights that had a huge impact. Nadira is in desperate need of so many things that she lacked growing up as a hunter. In this book you really see how much of a toll that takes on her. Not to mention Roquelles recklessness and what that evokes in Nadira. Abandonment, loneliness, shame, guilt, lies all hit her and how she chooses to deal with her emotions backfires. Such a good book!
She has only part of her soul left and she will do almost anything to keep it but she is bonded to a succabus who needs her to find their body. There is only one demon she can trust but she needs her help. Can she betray everything to save him? Can she take that fatal step? See how she decides what to do
