Our Graveyard Shift

We humans grieve. We pace shoeless in the rain. We sing hymns to open caskets. We eat tubs of ice cream after breakups. We bury our dead to the symphony of twenty-one gun salutes. We meditate, we cry, we drink whiskey, we bake, we pray, and we create. We go from denial to anger to bargaining to depression to acceptance and back again. We humans grieve in the most wondrous and heartbreaking ways. This is who we are. Our Graveyard Shift, a book of poetry by Unitarian Universalist Hospital Chaplain Dylan Debelis, is a powerful testimony to this world of grief and the light that shines through it.

About the author

Dylan D. Debelis is a founding editor of Pelorus Press, publisher, poet, and performer based out of New York City. He is a Unitarian Universalist minister and serves as a hospital chaplain for a burn Intensive Care Unit. Dylan has been published in a diversity of influential Literary Magazines and Reviews including Prairie Schooner, [TAB] Literary Review, and The Timberline Review.
