My life is not my own in the Fae Realm. I had to escape if I ever wanted to control my own future. Life among the Fae isn’t a life at all.

Kristy has lived an impossibly unfair life. At a young age, she was kidnapped by the Fae and forced into servitude. As she blossomed into a young woman, she was sold to the Seelie King where she then became his "favorite plaything". After learning that she is pregnant, she is forced to flee back to the Human realm as the sentence for this is death. As she starts to move on and gets comfortable in her new life, her past comes back to haunt her and endangers not only her life but her daughter's life as well.

In the beginning of this novella, I felt Kristy's voice sounded a little juvenile for her age, but considering she's spent the past couple years of her life sheltered and viewed solely as property, I was willing to look past it. I do wish this novella had more "Fae action" however as the majority of the story takes place on Earth surrounded by humans. The ending was left wide open as I'm assuming it's a setup for the next book and readers are left wanting more. I would recommend this novella to readers who enjoy books in which the Fae are truly heartless and not delicate creatures. Overall, I did enjoy this quick read and will be continuing on in the series.

An odd bittersweet lead-in prequel to a tale of fae politics and a human woman caught between two sides of an eternal war of words, posturing and soft power.

Most of this is inferred here though - this part of the story centres of Kristy, the kidnapped woman in question. She was stolen away by the Fae of the Seelie court, where human slavery is just what they do. We learn how it comes to be that she escapes after receiving aid from unexpected places, and manages to return to the human realm. Once again she is struck by the kindness of strangers, and by just how much it means to be "home" again, safe, and just maybe with a future for herself and her forbidden unborn child.

Some little niggles about the story involved the ease with which she found help without explanation . Dialogue could feel a bit awkward and stilted use of formal language (cannot where can't might have sounded more natural) didn't help. The development of the romantic angle was rushed through and leaned a bit too heavily on cliche for my taste , though thankfully not quite insta-love levels.

The Fae came across very much A Court of Thorns and Roses; all political maneuverings and power-plays between different factions with varying attitudes towards humanity. I liked how that aspect was set up, undoubtedly all ready for the main story to take place with this group of people caught between the two worlds.

It's a short story, so kept light on real-world details. Unbelievable plot aspects aside, it'd be interesting to see how the characters from this would work things out when there was more time to explore their relationships and motives.

Heartwarming and heartbreaking

I read Stolen by darkness first and then found this little gem. What a wonderful way to connect the dots of the Fae realm and this world. To understand where Seraphina came from and her mother's story. How she came to live and be raised by Uncle Eric. I love the tantalizing connection Sebastián has to the child Kristianna carries that causes him to help her escape back to the human world after being taken to the fae realm as a child. This story and Kristy's struggle and rescue are heartwarming and heartbreaking, I really enjoyed getting the back story of Eric and how he came to be part of her life. Delightful and very entertaining.

I really enjoyed this prequel, and getting to know Kristy’s backstory even though it broke my heart. Kristy’s life was truly tragic. Instead of enjoying childhood like any child should, the fae stole her from her family and forced her to live a life of servitude as a slave in more ways than one in a foreign realm. When she unwillingly conceives a half-fae child—a crime punishable by death—she finally finds the courage (with the help of a fae prince) to run away and make her way back to the human realm. And though she does, fate is cruel and isn’t done with her yet, forcing her to sacrifice the life she was just getting back to protect another’s.

I loved Running from Darkness, an exciting prequel to The Dark Fae Trilogy. Kristy is a fascinating character that was kidnapped and brought to the Fae realm at the age of ten. Years later she escapes and returns to the Human realm. I love the story that follows and I'm looking forward to reading book one Stolen by Darkness.

I give Running from Darkness 5 stars for its exciting read.
I would recommend this book to Fantasy Fans.

Wow, what a great prequel to this new series. This book kept me on the edge of the seat, turning the pages to see what would happen next. This is a well-written storyline with a wonderful description of the Fae realms. The characters are well developed and pulled me into the story. You might need a tissue before you finish. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the next one in the series.

I liked this book, we have mystery and lots of emotions. Kristy Was kidnapped at a young age by face. She has been enslaved to them for years, when she finally gets a chance to leave. She runs in to a guy working at a club that tries to help her. Will she get away? Will they find her if she does? Will her new friends help her? What about the child? I received a free copy for my honest review.

Wow, this short prequel had all the emotions. I loved this peak into the Fae and inner working. My heart broke for kristy and Eric. But this short story gives us that bonus information that you wouldn't get within the series and I really enjoyed it. And boy do I have questions! This novella will make you want to just straight into book 1, and Samantha has definitely caught my attention with this new series!

I loved the first book of this trilogy and this prequel was just as amazing. This read will pull you into this story hook, line and sinker. This one pulls you in from page one and you fall instantly in love with the characters. This prequel gives you the backstory of Sera and how she came to be. This is a must read!!! Excellent storyline!!

A beautiful, yet heartbreaking beginning to this series. Kristy has a troubled past and yet somehow finds herself with a terrific brother and sister who take her into not just their apartment, but into their lives. Can she truly be free from her past? Samatha Britt writes a story that bridges worlds and weaves in love and heartbreak inseparably entwined.

Nothing like being stolen from your world at the age of 12 to basically become a servant to the fae. Once she's older things change, she's brought to the King's palace and her life takes a darker turn. After her escape she finds a couple of sibligs to live with and not must learn how to navigate in the human world again. Enjoyable back story for Seraphina.

I was kind of surprised how much I enjoyed this. Trigger Warning: the main character is kidnapped as a child, and from her late teens(?) sexually abused. It's not something I'd normally read but I didn't know about all that when I got it. It's mostly her back story, rather than what the main story focuses on, but it also seems like the child she has with her Fae abuser is something "special", and that this story is setting up the universe for novels based on the daughter's life. I'm intrigued enough to read the Dark Fae Trilogy #1

I really enjoyed this short prequel. The main character is Kristy, a girl who was abducted by the fae when she was a child. I really enjoyed reading her journey, and can’t wait to read the rest of the main series.

I have not read Book One yet. Kristy story was sad but one of survival. I got a good feel for what the story could be and look forward to reading the series.
