How can an eligible young lady in the 1818 season find a suitable husband? Wealthy lady Abigail Westerhall concluded she could not marry until she has seen the world, and so her mother took her on the Grand Tour, first to France where she sees the beauty of the fashion world and her future wedding dress, and then to Italy where she experiences great art and true love. Guillermo is an exotic Venetian nobleman, and she falls head over heels for him. When her mother discovers her scandalous dalliance, she is horrified and forces a move, but Abby outwits her. She leaves a forwarding address to Guillermo, who writes to her and proposes marriage. When she returns to England, he follows her and causes a stir at a ball by publicly declaring his love for her. He has to return to Italy to get his parents’ permission and is never heard from again. Abby, humiliated, decides to re-enter the fray in Lon-don, but she no longer has the stomach for it. On her way back home by post coach, she meets another Italian gentle-man bound for France. When she tells him she will only marry the man who can buy her the dress she saw in a shop on the Champs Elysée, he accepts his challenge. Will he rise to the occasion or turn out to be a cad? He is good friends with a well-known cad who is courting Abby’s younger sister, so all signs point to disappointment, but they hadn’t counted on Abby’s perseverance. In the dazzling season in regency Eng-land, Abby is one young lady you will never forget!
Lady Abby's Grand Tour is a 55,000-word slightly steamy Regency romance story with a happily ever after ending.
Her passion is Regency Romance and the creation of worlds. She loves to imagine a more interesting world full of love and excitement and her books are proof of that!
This book was so great love the concept of the book the romance hot and steamy at the same time I couldn't put it down I'm waiting to see what next from this author.
Abby💃💋 and her mother, Anne, go on a European adventure, after she fails to find a husband among the English ton. At 20 years old, Abby💃💋 is a well educated, opinionated, and gregarious young woman who thinks she will find an Italian noble🐺 who will sweep her off her feet.
ARC Received from Booksprout🌱 I also got the book with KU.
This is a fun book, a romantic comedy of sorts, because Abby💃💋 is somewhat naive about the ways of the 🌎world. She wants to try everything! The book needed another proofreading but the errors did not affect my enjoyment of it.
Decent premise but it kind of missed the mark. Lady Abby’s Grand Tour had the potential to be a funny, exciting and different type of Regency romance but it didn't quite hit the mark. I thought the writing was pretty good for the most part and the flow was nice. There was quite a bit of humor as well, which I enjoyed and kept me from giving the book a lower review. However, I just couldn't get over Abby acting like a spoiled brat ALL the time. She came across as ditsy, shallow, spoiled and completely self absorbed. Her parents are indulgent. Her mother takes her on a Grand Tour before she has to marry and she (it seems to me) never understands what a gift she has been given and is really only interested in fashion an boys. In fact, she sees a lovely, very expensive, dress in a Paris shop and decides she wants to be married in THAT dress. She thinks about this dress more than her amazing tour. Abby goes on this tour with her mother and "falls in love" with the first handsome, attentive Italian man she meets. He vows he is "in Love" with her as well. They have to part but exchange addresses. She then travels all over the county on this glorious adventure but MISSES OUT ON EVERYTHING because of mooning over this boy. In fact, she has her mother cut short their trip so she can go home and wait for him. Good grief. SOOO self absorbed! Turns out her mother knows the boys family and ALSO had a romance with the father years ago but married someone else instead. Really!?!? In a country with thousands of people, she runs into the same family?? Creepy.
*SPOILER ALERT* As far as anything "steamy", there really isn't. Towards the beginning of the book, she takes her first real bath (really!?!?) and pleasures herself. Then you go thru the entire rest of the book and there is some "steamy-ness" with her new husband at the end. I personally don't mind sex or sexy scenes BUT you either sprinkle them throughout the book or don't put them in at all. It was weird.
She finally gets home, the boy comes to see her and meet her family. It's like they go back and forth over the ocean like it is across the road. Anyway, he comes to visit, helps plan a wedding, goes back to the inn and promptly disappears. I never could figure out why, really. Abby is heartbroken and mopes around for a year. She then meets ANOTHER ITALIAN man out of the blue, takes about two minuets to decide she cares for him, tells him "if he loves her, he will get her the dress", He gets to Paris and back in about 20 minutes, sends her the dress and she is IN LOVE!!! This is Mr. Right!! GAH!!
Sigh...... It could have been SUCH a good book. Hopefully the author will have her characters grow a little more in the next book. I think there is definite potential for this author but she needs to work on better character development.

When I first saw the Table of Contents, I thought this late Regency romance was going to be a fun ride. Who could resist chapter titles such as "Fops Aplenty" or "Back to the Baying Hounds"? Of course, I had initially been intrigued by the title. Back in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, women didn't go on Grand Tour's of the continent like young men did. (BTW, as this late Regency, there are no worries about Napoleon.)
Unfortunately, I was just about immediately turned off by the story itself once I started reading it, on at least four fronts: a childish heroine, a data dump start, little and poorly written dialogue, and overblown narrative writing.
Abby Westerhall (the heroine) is the rather spoiled and somewhat conceited daughter of a minor baron. She is apparently bored with all the men in England after three seasons and further determines she will not marry until she sees some of the world. Her mother acquiesces and takes her on a Grand Tour including France and Italy--in part because she hopes exposure to a greater world will show her daughter her own limitations.
For the first 6% or so, the book is all narrative prose; I think there might have been a line of dialogue that was referenced but not shown in a scene. The prose is heavy for a romance and laced with strange words (some of which I couldn't find defined on the internet). The voice of the narrator is strangely distant as it looks into the minds and follows the actions of the characters--what I would call an omniscient viewpoint gone wrong. There are screens and screens of telling (not truly showing) about Abby's background, her world, and her run-ins with men she believes are beneath her notice.
What dialogue there is after that highly narrative first 6% is very stilted; no character speaks naturally. For Abby, imagine a breathy Regency England version of Scarlett O'Hara. It was grating to read "oh, mother!" or "maman" constantly. Fiddle-dee-dee. The text, too, was rife with grammatical and punctuation errors--rampant with far too many commas in places but missing crucial ones as well.
The premise had HUGE promise. I love the idea of a young Regency lady having a Grand Tour like the young men of the time often did. In the hands of a skilled author, the concept of this book would have been a breath of fresh air in a genre that is often afflicted with sameness. Unfortunately, that promise was not delivered.

Lady Abigail Westerhall was a very intelligent and informed young woman and, despite all the balls she attended, she had not found a man who interested her. Actually, she would freely speak her mind and correct the man’s thinking -- even about matters of politics which she understood far better than potential suitors -- so she was not what they expected either. With time running out, Abby, a highly adventurous and inquisitive soul, had an interest in seeing the world, so her mother and father agreed to the value of taking a Grand Tour. Abby’s measure of a good husband was found in her often repeated wish, “If only I had a man who would buy me a Paris gown”, so they headed off to the continent.
Abby’s mother, Anne, was not aware of her daughter’s fascination with Italian men. So when she notices her dalliance with Guillermo Zane, a nobleman, she takes Abby away. When Guillermo follows, he makes a public scene at a ball. He asks Abby’s father permission to marry her; her father puts him off for a week to sort things out. Finally he gives his blessing, with agreement from the rest of Abby’s family, and Guillermo says he now must ask his father for permission to wed as well. Guillermo returns home and is not heard from again! When an innkeeper returns the pocket watch Abby had bought him, she realized there would be no married.
Throughout her wild adventures, Abby still has her heart set on a wedding dress she saw in a shop on the Champs Élysée called “Au Petit Dunkerque,” and she wanted only this dress to be her wedding dress! When a package unexpectedly arrived containing the beautiful dress, she was stunned. A letter followed, but no one could read the name of the sender who had asked if the dress fit! Lizzie, her sister, remembered the stranger they had met. The man was Alberto Zobenigo. Will her suitor fulfill her dreams? Or will she once again be led astray by a man?
This was a very active story! So much went on that will fill the reader in on the characters, their hopes and dreams, and the pitfalls! Will Abby and Lizzie navigate safely to a HEA? Will all the mysteries be resolved? Grab your copy of the book and see how it is all unraveled!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. I read a lot of books and historical romance is one of my favourite genres, so I sincerely wanted to like this book. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it very much. In fact giving it three stars is a bit generous. The storyline itself sounded interesting and intriguing, but the writing style completely let the story down. The story plods slowly along from the beginning and doesn’t really ever gain steam. The writing is stilted and choppy and doesn’t flow well at all - and quickly becomes boring. Part of the problem is that the author concentrates so much on describing the surroundings in excruciating detail - so much so that the dialogue and any action between the characters becomes secondary and virtually nonexistent. At times it felt like the story was simply being told by some third party narrator in another room giving an overview - almost like a boring travelogue or history lecture. Most of the interesting moments (like when the ladies are held up by highwaymen) are simply glossed over with one or two bland sentences (so why mention the hold up at all?) and then the author is off to another excruciatingly boring description of something or other. This book is very short on dialogue and interaction between characters, which left me very disappointed. Without a lot of dialogue and interaction between characters, it is very hard to bring characters to life, and that was a big problem in this story. I didn’t really feel like I knew any of the characters and they all seemed rather bland and lifeless. There were many potentially exciting moments in the story which, if properly addressed, would have elevated this story out of the doldrums. But sadly this did not happen - and so the story plods along - and I was left very bored and disappointed.

Lady Abby’s Grand Tour is a fast-paced story that is very active, that will take the reader on a journey filled with adventure, mystery, and intrigue, to find that happy ending! Lady Abigail Westerhall, (our heroine) is a well-educated, very intelligent and informed young woman with a highly adventurous soul and inquisitive nature; opinionated who will freely speak her mind and corrects the man’s thinking. Has an interest to the see the world; but in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it was highly unusual for a young lady to be allowed on a Grand Tour; such as this, it was only a privilege for men. So, Lady Abby’s mother take her on a Grand Tour of France and Italy. While in Italy, she meets an Italian who sweeps her off her feet and declares his love. After returning home, an unexpected package arrives containing the beautiful dress our leading lady has had her eye on, followed by a letter with an unidentifiable sender’s name, asking if the dress fit!
Lady Abby’s Grand Tour has quite a bit of humor, and excitement, with a nice flow and is a different type of Regency romance. Ms. Lisa Brooks has done another wonderful job of writing, where she is filling the reader in on the characters she chose; their hopes, dreams, adventures and shortcomings; as the story progresses. I love the idea of a Regency lady having a Grand Tour as the young men of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, were allowed. The writing style is heavy with romance; yet the voice of the narrator is distant, as if looking into the minds of her characters. This book was wonderful, I loved the concept of traveling, the romance hot and steamy at the same time. I could not put it down for wanting to find out what our heroin was up to next. I cannot wait to see what next from this author. I am giving a 3.5-star rating. I received an ARC copy to read.

ONE DELIGHTFUL TREAT!!! OMG! Wow, talk about the road less traveled. This is one tremendously enjoyable reads I've encountered in this genre. Lisa throws caution to the wind in this magnificent tale of honor and love. No holds barred, no pulling punches, take no prisoners attitude really rock this bad boy. Satisfying is an understatement. A whirlwind of emotions and events really pull at those heartstrings. All the excitement, uncertainty, fear, deceit, lies, betrayal and suspense build while tension spirials in this remarkable storyline and raging plot bringing this read roaring to life brilliantly. Action packed, fast paced, hard hitting, nailbiting, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning wonder that grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises that make for one thrilling experience. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate. They're written with such realism it really pulls this little jewel together beautifully. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive it's easy to picture each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Amazing job Lisa, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
The overall story of a young English woman looking for excitement and eventually marriage. Abby's parents want nothing more than to see their loving daughter marry well and be happy. Abby is blessed to have parents who indulge her overbearing ways. I feel that Abby is an over indulged, selfish, immature brat. She cares nothing for others feelings, as she gloats at someone else's faux pas, gossips and embarrasses them. In the time frame in which she lives, she is so lucky to have open minded parents. Abby gets them to agree to let her go to Europe for a grand tour. She travels with her mother and lady maid, Nell. While on tour her mother caters to Abby's every whim within their means. Then she becomes infatuated with a young Italian man whose father is a friend of her mother. Abby and her young man embark on a forbidden romance. In the end she is tossed aside for some unknown reason. Then she meets another respectable Italian man of means and treads carefully. She throws a challenge to him that he accepts and delivers. She hardly knows him but finds herself in the same situation as before. She is drawn to him. She is rash and impulsive. As I mentioned before this has the potential of being a humorous, coming of age story. It just is lacking and disappointing.
Lady Abigail Westerhall decided she needed a grand tour before she got married and ask her parents Baron and Lady Westerhall and they said yes. Her mother, Anne, would take her on the tour. They left with their first stop being Paris were Abigail had her first soaking bath she adored. The next day she wanted to go sightseeing but her mother didn't feel like it but she allowed her to go with Nell it was there made. It was on this trip she found the most beautiful golden gown that she had ever seen. She wanted it and asked her mother if she could have it her mother asked the price 20,000 francs and her mother said they simply couldn't afford it. Soon after this they started their trip to Venice where Abby met and fell in love with Guillermo Zane. When her mother discovered this she immediately decided to continue the tour and they headed to Rome. After Rome they went to Florence and Abby decided she was ready to go home. Another question to answer is does she marry Guillermo or not. Her hope for the entire tour was to meet and fall in love with an Italian gentleman as which she has. So to find out what else happens you have to read the book? It’s a good book...
This review may contain spoilers. I’m not sure who was more juvenile Abby or her mother.in all the years I’ve been reading this is the first book I could not finish. I’m no historian by any means, I have how ever read enough regencies to doubt anyone in the early 1800’s would not be familiar with a bathtub or at least the concept. I do understand this is a product of the authors imagination. However I do not think a few “large” words the addition of the French language here and there and something I can’t only describe as juvenile masturbation. Spoiler—“she put I finger gingerly inside her hole” end spoiler make a book. Ramblings. All this before the end of chapter two. Depending on other reviews I may come back to try to finish Lady Abby’s Grand Tour. For now however I will skip the tour and just stay home. I do plan on checking out the authors other books.

I enjoyed reading Lady Abby's Grand Tour. It was different from most historical romances. It reminded me of the writings of Jane Austin with a witty, spirited heroine. The writing style of the book also reminded me a lot of the style of Jane Austin, written in the third-person. without any racy or steamy scenes, and with plenty of witty and humorous dialogue. Lady Abby's search for a husband is an interesting read for everyone who enjoys historical romances. In the book, we also meet Lady Abby's sister, Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a hoyden, full of spirit and fun. I hope that there will be a second book about Elizabeth because I am dying to find out if Elizabeth ever reunites with her love, the rogue D'Arcy Hamilton or if she finds a new love.

This story is a very good read from the first to the last page. Lady Abigail Westerhall is a very strong-willed lady for her time. While she is on a Grand Tour with her Mother she meets Guillermo a Venetian gentleman but he is not exactly what he pretends to be. When she gets back to England she meets Alberto Zobenigo and she tells him she will only marry the man who can procure the dress for their wedding that she saw on the Champs Élysée called “Au Petit Dunkerque”. Reading how Abigail and Alberto's story progresses had me turning pages. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Abby is a wealthy young lady with nothing better to do than spend money so she says I simply can't Wed anyone until I have seen the world. Her mother takes her around the world and she causes trouble wherever she goes because she wants to spend alot of money on a dress, she takes baths, and then she meets with an Italian gentleman who causes a scene and then they go home and same said gentleman states his love for her but then leaves her and then she meets another guy who she says she will marry if he can buy her, her wedding dress. Another awesome read.

Sweet Regency Romance! Abigail Westerhall, determined to travel before settling down to marriage, sets out to see the world on her ‘Grand Tour’ and experience all the things she’s read about. Unfortunately her romantic notions get in her way. The customs of that era and witty dialogue were interesting but her childish behavior became annoying. I can’t imagine giving up seeing all the sights and beauty of Europe over a fantasy romance. Clean romance with some interesting twists and an HEA!
I received an arc copy and am happy to leave my honest review.

Lady Abby convinces her parents to allow her a grand tour before she's thrust onto the marriage Mart. She and her mother embark on what she feels will be her last chance for adventure before settling down to run a household. During the trip she meets a man, but her HEA will not be an easy thing to achieve. I would recommend reading this book. You will not be disappointed!
Good read with a rather whimsical story line about a young lady who has very romantic notions and wants to see more of the world and find herself a dashing figure of a man to wed. Her naivete is enchanting and thrilling all at the same time. A good book for a rainy day. Really enjoyed it!!! Sue D.
The story is a great idea. There is adventure in store for this young woman but ........ Perhaps cleaned up a bit this book would better suit the younger reader. I found too much to distract me from the story itself.
