This concise encyclopedia features a complete historical survey of Judaism, covering figures from Cain to Chagall, topics from fasting to euthanasia, and locations from the Garden of Eden to the Wailing Wall.
Rabbi Professor Dan Cohn-Sherbok is Professor of Judaism at the University of Wales, Lampeter. He is the author of over fifty books including the acclaimed The Palestine Israeli Conflict: A Beginner's Guide, co-authored with Dawoud El-Alami.
I kept this book to consult while reading "A Beginner's Guide to Judaism" by the same author. Anytime a new term came up that wasn't explained in the text, I'd look through this one to learn more. The fun thing was, almost every word had more new words in its explanation. So a one-word search would garner a minimum of five new terms learned and understood. And after finishing "A Beginner's Guide to Judaism", I perused this encyclopedia further to learn more. It's a well put-together dictionary, the cross-references were great, and I appreciated the consultation it provided for me as a beginner.
The copy of this book that I own is only 237 pages and needs substantial updating in 2025; it is written by a Professor of Judaism at Univ. of Wales at Lampeter and visiting professor of interfaith dialogue at Middlesex University. Dan Cohn-Sherbok also published and compiled The Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A BEGINNER's GUIDE with Dawould El-Alami. Thanks to One world Press for this publication 5* out of 5
