A Book for Web Developers Working with ClientsClients are friendly monsters. But even friendly monsters have teeth.Have you ever said things you regret to your spouse, or snapped at your kids because you were frustrated with a problem client? A single bad client can wreak emotional havoc on the rest of your life.
As business owners, we need to build fences around these friendly monsters or we will allow them to run free and trample the rest of our world. We’ll waste time, money and (most importantly) emotional capital dealing with the damage that these friendly monsters will cause.
The Friendly MonstersThis book is presented in two parts. The first part is fiction, a series of four stories about relatable WordPress freelancers who encounter “Friendly Monsters,” problem clients that are causing trouble in their lives and businesses. Chances are, you’ll see yourself in one of these characters or situations. You'll meet...The Question MarkThe Invisible ManThe Boundary BusterThe Drama QueenThe Four FencesThe second part explains the essential systems and structures that must be present in your business in order to keep problem clients
Nathan Ingram definitely hit a home run with this book. As a freelance website builder and manager I have certainly met all of the monsters that Nathan outlined in the first half of this book. (And probably a couple of others who weren't so 'friendly' as well.)
Nathan's suggestions for how to deal with them are invaluable and I have at least three cases right now that I am going to apply those ideas to.
I'm also going to go through my entire current process and reevaluate everything. I NEED those fences in place immediately, not only to protect my sanity but to also protect and honor my marriage.
If you are a freelancer of any kind, you really should read this book and apply Nathan's ideas. It may be one of the best, and easiest, investments you'll ever make, but I truly believe the returns are going to be invaluable.
This is a simple, relatable, and powerful book for anyone who creates websites for clients. Nathan does a great job of showcasing common "problem" clients, why issues may arise, and how to stop it from happening. I wish I'd read it sooner!
Quick, easily digestible read that is packed with lots of great advice. Nathan really knows he stuff and I've seen this very advice in action. I've been freelancing for over 16 years and got se great takeaways.
