Zeb Hanks Mystery #9

Native Trouble

Rate this book
Just as Sheriff Zeb Hanks announces his bid for re-election as Sheriff of Graham County and his upcoming marriage to Echo Skysong, all hell breaks loose. A crime wave sweeps Graham County, knocking Zeb off his game. Are all of these crimes directed at the county by some disgruntled individual or is this a direct attack on Zeb Hanks? Further complicating Zeb’s life is Echo Skysong. As her relationship with Zeb grows ever closer and her power grows as the Knowledge Keeper of all the People, she too becomes a target. While suspects are many, leads are few. With the election at hand, Zeb must quickly find a clever and nearly invisible enemy or enemies. Native mysticism as well as military and political intrigue all play a role in the unfolding of this intricately woven tale. NATIVE TROUBLE is the ninth book in the ZEB Small Town Sheriff Big Time Trouble series. Other books in the series include NATIVE BLOOD, HOLES IN THE SKY, ADIOS ANGEL, NATIVE JUSTICE, NATIVE BONES, NATIVE WARRIOR, NATIVE EARTH and NATIVE DESTINY.

Mark Reps has been a writer and storyteller his whole life. Born in small town southeastern Minnesota, he trained as a mathematician and chiropractor but never lost his love of telling or writing a good story. As an avid desert wilderness hiker Mark spends a great deal of time roaming the desert and other terrains of southeastern Arizona from December to May. A chance meeting with an old time colorful sheriff led him to develop the Zeb Hanks character and the world that surrounds him. Mark returns often to SE Arizona for inspiration, information and to maintain the general feel of the area, learn its history and understand the local residents.

When Mark started writing he became pen pals with Tony Hillerman who offered up tips, criticism and ideas on some of his early novels. His books are often compared with the Longmire television series and books by Craig Johnson.

Mark’s most recent project is the eighth installment of the ZEB HANKS series, NATIVE DESTINY which launched in the spring of 2018. He is working on a Zeb Hanks Novella which will be distributed free to subscribers. Books nine and ten (and likely beyond) are planned at a pace of one per year through 2020. Welcome to the series!

Native Trouble (ZEB HANKS: Book 9) - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Native Trouble - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Another outstanding Zeb Hanks/Small Town Sheriff, Big Time Trouble Western adventure, from the Grand Canyon State's (and my!) favourite author,
the talented and creative Mark Reps.
Native Trouble will tick all the items on your reading wish-list: all-action, realistic engaging characters, strong female protagonists,a 'flawed hero', cultural interactions, traditions ancient and modern, blackmail, treachery, current affairs, (including gun laws, terrorism, international conflicts etc) and their effects on victims and survivors, while true love, friendships, relationships and much much more develop thrillingly against not only majestic scenery or dramatic landscapes, but also among small-town sidewalks and on the Reservation, that both teem with a huge variety of personalities and lifestyles.
I guarantee you'll be spellbound as Zeb and his fiancee Echo face personal challenges of very different kinds, helped against terrors they never expected to have to face or challenges of the job of keeping peace in Safford County, by heartwarming support from friends, family and colleagues.
Native Trouble will make you smile with satisfaction, long after you reluctantly finish the last page...more soon please Dr Reps!

Mark Reps has created a wonderful series of books based on Sheriff Web Hanks. He spins fun yarns, with elements of native American spirituality and universal truths. This is his ninth book and I hope for 20 more. Zeb is easy to root for because he is a good guy trying to eliminate evil--and he reveals universal truths while doing so. His love interest, Echo, and his friends and enemies make these books great reads. Trouble seems to follow Zeb like night follows day but he never quits. And I hoe Mark won't either

You can bet anything that Mark writes is going to be a hit. Since I live in the Old South West and title with that in it gets my attention and I want to read it. I have never been disappointed in any of the Native series. Zeb Hanks is breaking a routine and is this time campaigning for the office of Sheriff. Does he win? Read the story. The women he want to marry is kidnapped and in the midst of it all he must save her. Very Good story and better characters.

Fighting against powerful members of United States government.

Each one story full of surprises, investigators of fake criminals
Events well planned and executed by professionals against Sheriff Zeb Hanks to damaged her official reelection. Zeb an his team were incapable to solve the puzzle of the crimes committed to replace him, on behalf of people trying to control the border.

The politics of money

Just like something from the news. Something is fishy in Graham County. Someone wants the honest sheriff out of the way. A fast paced story with interesting characters and compelling situations holds your interest from beginning to end.

Native Troubles

I enjoy the characters. Look forward to the next book in this series. The twins should add an interesting dimension to the marriage of Zeb and Echo.

Mark Reps has great ideas for setting, character, plot - but I will not be reading more of his work. He needs a good editor - not even a super-skilled editor, just someone to clean up the redundancies, the extra words, the errors in usage.
