FBI Agents Lucy Kincaid and Nate Dunning are assigned to do a prisoner transport from Brady, Texas back to their home base of San Antonio. The prisoner is a Most Wanted suspect in a string of robberies, one resulting in murder. When they arrive, they’re asked to transport one more prisoner because the station has been flooded and with the impending storm, they are short handed. Nate, who’s familiar with transport protocols, is on immediate alert. Lucy follows suit when she notices odd behavior by the supposed two strangers during the trip. Despite them taking every precaution and support measure, the storm presents additional hazards and what they suspected might happen rises up before them.

This is not your typical short story because a lot happens in a very short period of time. The transport was fraught with tension and danger, the storm was a vibrant additional element and finding the whole robbery team required real teamwork and ingenuity. Often I thought I knew where the story was going, only to be thrown a wrench and have it pivot in a new direction. I hadn’t planned to finish this in one sitting but it was impossible to let go. The narrator was wonderful as she made me even more nervous in her storytelling. The pacing was perfect with just the right emphasis at strategic moments. It was a harrowing listening experience, in a good way.

FBI Agents Nate Dunning and Lucy Kincaid are asked to escort a prisoner back to San Antonio from a small Texas town where he was arrested. What sounds like a routine transport turns into a disaster. The jail where the prisoner was being held has flooded; so they must transport a second prisoner. On top of that, a huge storm is bearing down on Texas and the creeks and rivers are overflowing. As Nate and Lucy navigate their way toward San Antonio, the two prisoners make a daring escape with the help of their gang. Now Nate and Lucy must recapture the prisoners and survive the storm.

This was an excellent novella that fit perfectly into the Lucy Kincaid series. It was non-stop action that had me on the edge of my seat. My rating: 5 Stars.

I love a good novella, and this is one of the best I have ever read/listened to. The audio kept me on edge and as I listened to it, I was shopping and gasped and drew several glances at certain points of the story. It was wonderful to see how Lucy and her new boss, Rachal, are coming to trust each other. Nate needs an HEA and I want him to have one. Maybe in a future book, I hope so.

FBI Agents Lucy Kincaid and Nate are tasked for prisoner transport. There is a major storm brewing, and the roads are flooding. The pick-up is in a rural part of Texas, hours from San Antonio and the transport will be difficult at best. When another prisoner needs transport also, Lucy and Nate oblige. On the way, Lucy picks up that something is wrong, and she is right.

The prisoners escape, put a family in danger and now the FBI is on the hunt for a family looking for one last score.

While this one was short it packed a lot into it. I knew when Lucy and Nate were driving to pick up the prisoners that things would go wrong because it’s Lucy and nothing is every easy for her.

I thought Lucy and Nate did a great job while driving through all the rain, knowing that things seemed off with the prisoners. So when things went to hell fast they were able to react, trying to protect everyone and keep the bad guys under control. Try was to big word there, because the bad guys planned well.

In the aftermath I was glad that Lucy and Nate stood up to the one FBI co-worker that tried to lay all the blame on them and wouldn’t listen to Lucy when she had a good idea of what the bad guys were going to do next.

By the time the bad guys were caught I felt myself feeling a bit sorry for them. Sure they deserved to be punished, but I don’t think most of them were truly evil like some of the people Lucy and her crew go after.

This novella packs the punch of a full size story. Has it all. Thrills, suspense, and an emotional story.

The FBI has been asked to help in transporting a recently captured FBI Most wanted bank robber Samuel Trembly. Typically this would be an easy assignment for Agent Lucy Kincaid and her colleague Nate but its in the midst of a bad storm that is causing flooding all over Texas. Combine this with an unexpected additional prisoner added to their transfer who may be in cahoots with Samuel things go to hell in a handbasket pretty quick.

The suspense racks up from here and doesn't let up till the last page.

I enjoyed this novella. It reminded me of how much I like this Lucy Kincaid series. This prisoner transfer gone painfully wrong is well done even with the usual collection of chisel-jawed beef cakes Brennan likes to include in every book.
Looking forward to the next book in the series.

3.5 stars.

A short story that started off with Nate and Lucy being asked to transport a FBI Most Wanted criminal from a county jail a few hours away to San Antonio. Due to storms in the area, the jail has been flooded and they were asked to transport another prisoner as well.

Inside the van, Lucy noticed that the two prisoners appeared to be using sign language to communicate and soon after their van is ambushed and the prisoners escaped. What follows is Lucy and Nate trying to recapture the prisoners and Lucy delving into the prisoners' family history to provide a profile of what they will do next.

A pretty clean cut case with some interesting family dynamics thrown in on the criminals' side. Nate seems to be struggling a bit... I'm thinking he probably should be joining RCK rather than staying in the FBI?

'After being attacked and left for dead by an online predator, Lucy Kincaid survives and joins the FBI to help fight deadly cyber-crime alongside security expert and private investigator Sean Rogan.'

Storm Warning is Book #14.5 in the Lucy Kincaid series by Allison Brennan. It is made up of 25 books that all bring a gripping blend of suspense, action, and emotional depth that had me on the edge of my seat, avidly reading just so I could find out how everything would play out in the end.
Lucy Kincaid is a survivor of a harrowing attack, but who manages to transform her trauma into strength, joining the FBI to combat dangerous threats. Her journey is both inspiring and heart-wrenching, as Ms. Brennan explores themes of resilience, justice, and the complexities of human relationships. Lucy’s partnership with Sean Rogan, a private investigator, adds another intriguing layer, tension, and dynamic to the series.
These are fast-paced stories, with twists that kept me guessing. As Ms. Brennan’s ability to balance intense action with deeply personal moments made the stories feel both thrilling and yet still relatable. Each installment delves into new challenging cases/investigations, from escaped prisoners to dark conspiracies, ensuring the series never loses its momentum.
With a compelling MC, intricately woven plots, and lots of action- I definitely enjoyed binge-reading this series.
Well worth the read.
Happy Reading…

Novella Reads Like Full Length Book

Allison Brennan weaves another suspenseful tale. Lucy and her partner Nate are sent to Brady Texas to transport a prisoner, despite gale winds and a torrential downpour. (Texas is a fairly “flat” state and when it rains, there is always flooding.)When they arrive to collect the prisoner they discover they will be transporting 2 not just the one. After arranging for more security they set out into the storm and this tale begins in earnest.

What begins as a simple prisoner transport becomes a prison break, a hostage situation and finally a robbery. Watch for the clues as Lucy and Nate along with other law enforcement officers attempt to figure out which business this gang of robbers plan to steal from.

Interspersed in all this action are snippets of family life and family dysfunction. Lucy is an astute observer of human nature and her insights help when clues are hard to find. As with any investigation involving different agencies or even departments within those agencies there will be territorial behavior, some don’t want to relinquish their authority and are slow to realize they are all on the same side.

This will keep you turning pages as the clues lead to a just ending. I freely admit I am a huge fan of Allison Brennan and wait anxiously for the adventures of Lucy Kincaid. Thank You Ms Brennan for a well told tale.

How do I love author Allison Brennan? Let me count the ways. Just look at my @goodreads shelf. (Swipe) I’ve read about 40 of her books!! 😳

The latest is a novella in her Lucy Kincaid series called STORM WARNING.

In a nutshell, even before the Lucy Kincaid series, there were several smaller series and some standalones that introduced us to the Kincaid family - a bunch of siblings with various careers in law enforcement and other continuing characters. Lucy was a teenager then. After a personal horror, she became an FBI agent and got her own series. I’ve loved every single book in these series and pretty much every character.

This novella which is a prequel to the next full-length installment due out at the end of the month (forever) is about another family...of criminals that Lucy and partner Nate have to catch after a jail transport breakout, kidnapping and bank heist.

As always, the plot is smart and thoroughly researched by the author. Suspenseful and emotional. Every book by @abwrites is a winner. 🤗 #allisonbrennan #lucykincaid #fbimystery #stormwarning #lucykincaidseries #books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #bookstagram #fiction #mysterynovel #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #goodreads #bibliophile #amreading

Storm Warning is a bland novella, I believe 14.5 in the series, with a slow, predictable plot with annoying characters. This is the first I've read in the series, and it did not capture my interest.

FBI agents Lucy Kincaid and Nate Dunning have the dubious honor of transporting the FBI's most wanted bank robber Samuel Trembly on a stormy night in San Antonio, Texas. The storm is supposedly so bad that roads are flooded, trees are down, yet the fearless duo is sent on their way regardless of the weather and road conditions.

The adverse travel conditions put the agents in peril and imminent danger which we know will lead to the Trembly escaping custody with the help of his accomplice whom Lucy and Nate are also transporting.

The case is not a mystery and the character's personal lives, Lucy her husband Sean and stepson Jesse, are not interesting enough that warrant any mention aside from the case--they're equally as dull. The Trembly's, Amanda, Monica "Ma," Sue Anne, Jacob, and Kirk are much more exciting but a horribly stereotyped family.

Storm Warning is not a bad story, just not the suspenseful, action-packed read I had hoped it to be.

When the routine takes a turn

Lucy is on a prison transport with Nate and things do not go as planned. Through action, intelligence, attention to detail and caring Lucy and Nate save the hostages, themselves and work towards figuring out what happened. The prison escape was quite inventive and enjoyed the vivid description of the weather and a conditions.

Sean and Lucy are doing great and it was good to see how they are adapting to a family of three. Kane is my favorite brother so it was great to see him in this story and spending time with his nephew and brother. Nate is quite interesting and I like that he and his voice were in this story. What can I say I am a sucker for the strong/silent type in these stories!

A short book about Lucy and Nate being sent out to pick up a prisoner, a member of a gang on the FBI’s wanted list, from a nearby town. The town is being hit by substantial rainfall and the jail has been flooded.

While transporting the prisoner, and another one brought in while they were on their way, they are attacked by members of the same gang and the prisoners are freed.

There is some interagency squabbling and Lucy, as usual, uses her insight into human behaviour to figure out the reasons behind the goings on - both in the work place and with the villains.

Great story!

I sometimes wonder what causes a writer to put pen to paper and create a story that will make the reader stop and think about the state of the world? Allison Brennan lets us in on a slight bit of man's inhumanity to man in this novella. Sharp dialogue, an intricate plot and our beleaguered FBI make this novella just as exciting as her longer stories. You will enjoy this snippet and wonder if you can wait for the next Lucy Kincaid novel.

This isn’t one of her best books. Good thing it was just a novella. I have read some of her other novellas that I enjoyed more. I happen to listen to most of the audiobooks (due to migraines) and I really wish that she or whomever is in charge, would have chosen a different narrator. Don’t get me wrong, she has a great voice to narrate but I think that she would be better suited for a different genre.

Read this a couple of years ago. Wanted to refresh myself with the characters in this series but didn't want to start right from the beginning, so started here as I haven't listened to the audio version of this one before. A fairly clean cut case with some interesting family dynamics from the criminals' side. Sean's son has just moved in to live with them so it seems to be a good place to start.

Terrific!

Actually felt like a full length book! More than 300 pages. The story was incredible and the action and drama was very intense. Anytime Nate and Lucy work together I am so happy! They are a fantastic team. The ending was really sad but also human and heartwarming. Bravo Allison another fantastic book!

Lucy 14.5

Storm Warning is part of the Lucy Kincaid series. It’s a short between fourteen and fifteenth book. In it Lucy and Nate are to transport to convicts during a storm. It turns out the convicts are part of robbery gang. A very dysfunctional family with a crazy matriarch. Even though the book is a short there’s lots of action!

There is a lot going on in this novella. There is a good mystery with lots of action, an update on Lucy's home life, and improved work dynamics. Lucy Kincaid is one of my favorite series. I love the scenes with Sean and his son. Lucy is back on track with her relationship with Rachael, her boss. A must read if you are into this series.

Book was pretty good. Lucy obviously thought outside the box. It was interesting seeing the tough FBI cop hoping the bad guys get on their feet soon? Narrator: Not a favorite. It was a pretty, soft voice but seemed more inclined to fairy tales than mysteries. She had a singsong rhythm that seemed like she was reading a "story" vs a mystery. Diminished enjoyment for me.

Disappointed

Thinking the correct name for the series should be called Kincaid/Rogan Novels. I was hoping since this was a shorter story that this would finally be the case that Lucy solved on her own.

Allison Brennan once again weaves an intricate story with characters that leap off the page. One dysfunctional family hell-bent on crime, greed, by dishonest means and robbing banks. It's up to Lucy Kincaid and her team from the FBI to stop them before things go south. Solid read.

Loved this quick little novella and catch up on my favorite Lucy and Sean. Also - Nate needs a happily ever after! However, I'm glad he has found family with the Rogans. I'm catching up quickly on the published books in this series and I don't want the adventures to end!
