For over thirty years there has been no word or sign of the Zaltule. The Zaltule are the warrior caste of the Kleese and the most dangerous race in existence. In a battle that nearly destroyed the Solar System, the Zaltule were driven from Human space. Now they are back and more deadly than ever. If they are not stopped, the Humans and their allies will be destroyed or forced into slavery.
Thomas Nelson is a corporal in the Marines. For years his family has been one of the leaders in protecting the Human race and leading the fight against the Kleese and the Zaltule. Now it is his turn to do what his uncle and father have done. Find a way to save the Human race from destruction. Admiral Kelly has come up with a daring plan to end the Zaltule once and for all. It’s up to Thomas and his Marines to accomplish the impossible. If they fail, it will be the end of everything.
Massive battles erupt across space as the Zaltule return. Fear encompasses the Alliance as they see their worst nightmare become a reality. Led by the Humans, a desperate mission is launched to save everyone from destruction. Unfortunately the mission has little chance of success. But even a small chance of success is better than none.
I live in Clinton Oklahoma with my wife of 40 years and our cat. I attended college at SWOSU in Weatherford Oklahoma, majoring in Math with minors in Creative Writing and History.
My hobbies include watching soccer, reading, camping, and of course writing. I coached youth soccer for twelve years before moving on and becoming a high school soccer coach for thirteen more. I also enjoy playing with my five grandchildren. I have a very vivid imagination, which sometimes worries my friends. They never know what I am going to say or what I am going to do.
I am an avid reader and have a science fiction / fantasy collection of over two thousand paperbacks. The space program has always fascinated me and I've followed it since its inception. When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an astronaut. Now, I just write about it.
Well, we’ve come a long way since the first book. The Kleese have been pretty much defeated after they almost destroyed Earth and all humanity. The Alliance has grown stronger without the constant Kleese attacks, but the Zaltule are now becoming a problem. While the Kleese tried to wipe out their own warrior race, they didn’t successfully destroy all the Queens so now the Zaltule have prospered. They have become a formidable force ready to challenge the Humans and the Alliance and then go on to payback the Kleese for almost killing their Queens.
Except the Zaltule continue to underestimate the humans and the Alliance. Part of this is because the Zaltule are very arrogant and also very insecure. They have to keep reminding themselves that they are the “superior race and the lesser races should be subservient to them”. I don’t know how many times this mantra gets repeated, but it seems like a lot and it’s only in conversations between Zaltule and Kleese which are actually the same race. Anyway, the Humans and the Alliance have grown fairly strong and can hold their own even against a Zaltule attack. Still, both sides experience horrendous losses and it doesn’t go well for the Zaltule, but their arrogance won’t let them recognize the danger the Humans represent. (Edit: Why aren’t the humans part of the Alliance?)
This book is centered around the son of one of the main characters in the first books, Corporal Thomas Nelson. His parents are Colonel Ryan Nelson and his wife Casey. They both were also Marines having gone through the same training as their son. There’s also Brian, Kinsley, and Leah, all Marines and in training. Their training is going along fine with Thomas showing great promise as a leader. They soon will be completing their training and ready for this first real mission.
Then the High Command finds the location of the Zaltule home system. They have gotten some good recon on two planets, one of which appears to have three mountains that would hold three Zaltule Queens. Of course this system is heavily, heavily guarded. The Queen nest are also buried deep under the mountains were even a nuclear bomb won’t phase them. Supreme Overload Tetus has seen to the defenses of the mountains/nests and has ensured they would survive any attack by anyone foolish enough to even try. But, that’s exactly what the Human High Command decides to do.
Command knows they can’t successfully go in and just bomb the nests. They also know they can’t defeat all the Zaltule battleships orbiting around this planet. So, the only solution they come up with is to attack the nests from the inside. They draw up a plan to send Marines into the mountains with their objective to destroy all the Queens and all the eggs. Destruction of the Queens would mean the end of the Zaltule race.
So, you can guess which Marines get selected for this mission. While just out of basic training, Corporal now Lieutenant Nelson and his three friends along with a massive amount of other Marines are assigned what appears to be a suicide mission. The High Command believes they can get the Marines to the mountain and protect them while they go hunting deep inside, but they don’t have a clue as to how to get them off the planet, if their mission is a success.
A pretty good story-line, but it does seem like this is the end of this series. While it’s taken over six books to get to this point, the end comes pretty abruptly and doesn’t seem to really be a good end results, but who knows. Only time will tell. The ending is also not one you might expect.
Before you read this one, please note it is the sixth book in a series. You need to have read each of the other books in order or this installment won’t make much sense to you.
As it has been quite a while since this series has had a new installment, I went back and re-read each of the previous books first to make sure I was grounded on where this one was attempting to go. After the buildup, it was a bit disappointing as it appeared rushed and the dialogue between the characters – human and alien – was choppy. Many of the new developments didn’t seem that believable, and there was clearly a difference in the quality of the writing of the earlier novels of the series compared to where we are today as it seems to be on a downward trend. A lot of the dialogue of the Kleese is very similar to the dialogue in the author’s Zorn series.
While billed as “the final conflict,” the door was left wide-open for a sequel as nothing was really resolved with either faction of the Kleese. It wasn’t all bad, as I felt as if I received my purchase price of $3.99 worth of entertainment value out of this one. If you had enjoyed the previous installments of the series as much as I have, it might be disappointing.
I read a lot, probably a book every two days. I look forward to publications from certain authors. Raymond Weil is one of those authors. His books are consistently fun reads, with great space battles and likable characters. I get such a kick out of how Mr. Weil always has his characters share a meal. The way he describes, the food, the atmosphere and the a particular dish in each meal, be it Chicken Parm or Spaghetti and meatballs. Always makes me smile ! I highly recommend Weil’s works !
Outstanding, I always can count on your series' to be exciting, adventurous, frought with danger and over the top action. Additionally, the always hungry Marines who love to stalk food courts around the universe...lol Here is too your quick recovery back to your writing passions. I look forward to seeing more of the Originator Series and I salute you in all the universes you find a storyline to bring to my attention. You write them and I will read them, thanks Raymond for a GoodRead.
Great read & series! However the author forgot the start of the war! It started with Earth destroyed by a planet killer bomb - never seen again even with the enemy having them and Earth not having them to use on hives instead of sending troops to die. Worlds of intelligence and no one remembered history. Great social issues raised and handled exceptionally. Recommend this series for every SciFi fan!
This is a great book an excellent finish to the series.
Excellent series, satisfying finish. I enjoyed this book very much, enjoy the space battles the science fiction and the character development. Waiting for this author’s next book. I hope he finishes the storyline he did leave a few story threads unfinished.
This series has the group of heroes I loved to read about. Team work and dedication to the mission can result in success against over whelming odds. The insect like enemy desires only total elimination of humanity. The blend of stirring action and interpersonal drama make a great read.
The next generation takes its place. I've been following this series since its inception. While the original series ended in a good place, there was plenty of room to keep going. Weil has done this with "Final Conflict". The Empire Wars universe is pretty solid and now there are a new bunch of characters to start filling the rolls. A fun and satisfying read.
I have loved this series, I truly believe that if aliens are out there. It's not safe to have all our eggs in one basket. Also he who controls the high ground, controls the battlefield. Space is the high ground. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure. I look forward to more from this author.
Dislikes - the book was shorter than I had hoped Likes - new characters and a great final episode that tidied up the story. Now looking forward to the the originators (Exploration ) glad to see you back Raymond
Well that was a interesting end to the Zatule personally I expected some type of explosive being attached to the last egg on well my bad for being blood thirsty guess being ex British army helps lol. What about the Kleese will we hear more about the ????
As always, another excellent book by Raymond Weil. Raymond is one of two authors I never hesitate to read. Best of luck for a fast and complete recovery!
Every review is in some way tainted by personal opinions and mine is that the last book don't give the reader any good ending with to mutch unresolved.
This was a good story to end the series. I have enjoyed going back and rereading the books that came before it. I hope you will take the chance and try them out yourself.
