They did this.

The government.

But it wasn’t just our government, no, it was every governing body, in every country, around the globe. In an attempt to reduce overpopulation they unleashed a virus unlike any other, but they couldn’t predict what happened next. The infected became cannibalistic monsters, every trace of humanity gone.

They hunt us down wherever we go.

We are the survivors, the ones who made it to the first anniversary of the outbreak. Our numbers are dwindling, but we have one last shot at fighting back. We just have to survive long enough to save the human race.

The fate of the country lies with a lonely school girl and a city boy with a shady past.

The rules are simple: don’t get caught.

Wild card read Paperback

This isn’t my unusual read but I fancied something different and the idea of drink tea during the zombie apocalypse appeared to me.

Tag is a fitting title which is awesome when the it falls into place.

Mia is at school when the out break happens. The school bus is supposed to take them somewhere safe but the monsters have other ideas. Now she’s alone and living on her instincts.

Alex’s life before the breakout wasn’t clean cut or above the law. Lucky for him his skills have helped him survive. While out on a supply run his team come across Mia.

Is it possible to find love in the zombie apocalypse. Let’s play tag and find out. Most important rule don’t get caught.

I would have liked more dialogue in this story. Otherwise it was a fabulous wild card read.

You see, my problem with Fantasy, Dystopian, or Sci-Fi books that are less than 300 pages is that the whole plot seems rushed and there isn't enough character development for me to relate or form a connection with the MC. The world-building was also close to non-existent except for a few minor details (i.e. how and where the outbreak started).

My major issue with this book is that it tells instead of shows. We have repeatedly read that Mia is a strong, smart, and fearless survivor etcetera, etcetera. However, there are not enough evidences to back up that claim except for a few flashbacks of how she survived staying at the boarding school alone for a year. This also applies to her relationship with Alex, who is also as annoying as Mia. Their whole love story was utterly unbelievable (I'm rolling my eyes right now just thinking about it).

I further disliked the fact that the author obviously did so little research when it comes to things like the correct process of finding a cure or testing for vaccines. When Alex and Mia asked the scientist regarding the mutations and vaccines, the scientist literally said that they are too dumb to understand, which I think is the author's lazy way of dodging potential explanations that would have further better the story.

In general, I feel like if the author took the time to elaborate the plot and details of the book, it would have been a solid 5-star read for me because it seemed promising.

This novella packs a big punch in a short amount of time. There's a great plot and more than a few surprises along the way that keep the reader engaged from start to finish. Love the contrast between the brutal harsh reality of a zombie apocalypse and the sweet romance between Alex and Mia. There's plenty of gore and horror-filled moments for those who want their zombie fix but I think it's also fast paced story with lots of action and tension. It's obvious it's well thought out and planned which I liked. I hope there's more to come!

Characters: 5/5
Plot: 5/5
Word Building: 4.5/5
Story Flow: 4.5/5

Picky Bitches OVERALL SCORE: 5/5

I don't usually give a low rating to books. Even though i feel this book holds a great story and i do like SOME of the characters. I do love that the main female character isn't one of those helpless "oh idk what im supposed to do" type but i do have some issues with this book...

Im guessing im one of the few who doesn't completely love this book...

1. The story is VERY fast paced.. i love books that just jump right into the action but this was just something different. They just skipped time so much.. and you sometimes didn't even know.. do you know how confused i was when she said that she missed his body when they sleep together in the woods... I was like wait what? When did this happen? But okay. I just think some time gaps could have been better written.

2. So Mia was sexually assaulted. So why jump alex so quickly then? Idk.. this really bothered me. I just feel that this was very poorly written. She was assaulted.. alone for months after that and then the first time she sees another man she immediately is okay with him? She should have freaked. You don't just forget something like that. I just feel she should've been given time to really deal and LEARN to trust him. She was even comfortable with the other males.

3. Emotions. This is just... Some parts were really great and then other parts were just..not. So she finds her dead friend and falls apart. But she finally finds her father and it's just a hug? After a YEAR of wondering if he's alive.. if he's okay.. and just a hug? VERY underwhelming.

4. And lastly. WHY DIDN'T HER FATHER SEARCH THE SCHOOL?!?! I mean seriously??? What kind of father would just accept that ohh she must be dead and doesn't even bother seeing if she didn't escape to the school? She wasn't among the corpses.. soooooooo .. i just can't. That just did NOT sit right with me.

But yeah. The story is still good though. It's just these minor issues i had that ruined it for me.

Also i HATE Karen... The name suits her. Cuz she's a straight up complaining, manager asking, toilet paper stealing KAREN.

I HAVENT READ A GOOD ZOMBIE BOOK IN A WHILE AND LOVED THIS. THIS BOOK HAD EVERYTHING SECRETS, BETRAYAL AND GOOD OLD ZOMBIE ACTION. MY ONLY CRITICISM IS I FELT THE ENDING WAS RUSHED AND COULD OF BEEN EXTENDED.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Tag is a story about Mia, Alex, and their life after the zombie apocalypse. As we read we find out how they survive and fall in love when life is at it's worst. When the book begins, Mia and Alex are strangers. They meet when Alex and his friends raid Mia's hideout for supplies. There is an instant draw between the two and together they face all the trials, secrets and lies the end of the world has brought them.

The book itself has a great story. It was well written and very hard to put down. The only thing I did not like about this book is it could of been longer. The ending felt rushed and I felt like there could of been more zombie action filler.

I struggled with what I should rate this book. It came down to the content I felt it was missing versus how good the content it did have was written. In the end I went with 4 stars because I thought it was a really good read. As a zombie fan, I really enjoyed it.

Overall, I do recommend reading this book if you are fans of zombies and/or dystopian books.

Let me start by saying I'm not really a zombie book person. That being said I was totally into this. So maybe I am a zombie book person or its just this book. The distress that I'm not use to in my normal reads was exciting. Honestly I enjoyed When they had to jump from the window to escape the zombies breathing down their necks. That's kind of sick but that's the beauty of books all the fun without any of the realities. It wasn't all running from zombies; it definitely has a plot with some government secrets. I had no trouble picturing what this zombie apocalypse would be like and that's all the writer, I have no imagination. All in all I really enjoyed TAG. If it had spiced up the intimacy it would have been a 5 star for me. You can take the girl out of the romance book but you can't take the romance book out of the girl

Loved this zombie story. Had me hooked from the first page and enthralled till the end. Wasn't too gory. All about survival. Great character's and great storyline. Need more of Mia and Alex.

i love a good zombie apocalypse movie but have yet to read a book about it so i thought I'd give this one a try.
it wasn't the worst but it did lack a few important things. as it is a short book, it was very fast paced which i didn't actually mind. the fast pacing that did bother me was the romance between Mia and Alex. Mia was sexually assaulted before meeting Alex, yet runs straight into a man's arms after like knowing each other for a minute (especially when these people are raiding your safe place). that to me just ruined the whole relationship from the start. i would've just been happy with a friendship, or low-key affection.

when it comes to the scientific things like the virus and explanation of vaccine, it was all very vaguely explained or just ignored.

but overall it was interesting enough to keep reading and i will be reading the second book. i really just wish the relationship portion wasn't written like it was because it basically ruined the half of this story for me.

I bought this at British Book Bash 2022 and I am so glad i did! It has been a very long time since I’ve read a zombie book (like back in the wattpad days) and this is probably the start to a new obsession.

Whilst I love my fast paced/ instant love books, this just seemed a little bit too rushed for me and there could’ve been a lot more around the character development - especially with Alex and Mia’s relationship.

HOWEVER, I still really enjoyed the plot and it was really hard for me to put down. Also I was not disappointed by the gore/horror moments! I will be reading the second book

OMG!!!!! I loved this book!
I was drawn into this book from the very beginning until the very last page that I had trouble putting it down. This is the first book I have read by this author and would love to read more. I liked the authors writing style and the book just flows so smoothly.
Mia is at boarding school when the virus breaks out, everyone tries to escape but the don't get very far and Mia ends up back at the boarding school. Alex and his team come across Mia and the boarding school while out on supply runs, but Mia has been alone for so long she finds it hard to trust but her and Alex and drawn together. Mia leaves with Alex and together they are on a journey to try and save what's left of humanity.
I would definitely recommend this book and its worth the 5 stars.

This could have been something great, but instead, the whole book felt rushed and as if the details were skimmed over. I had to double check the last few pages on my e-reader because I couldn't believe that the book was already over, and imagine my surprise when I saw that book 2 was about another couple.

Everything happened so quickly there was no time for the main couple to breathe, let alone bond.
What do you mean, they met, she nearly killed him, his group and him take what was hers, they share a bed and fall in love? All in under 48 hours??

I don't usually mind insta-love when the situation calls for it, but here it just felt extremely sloppy. I have no doubt the MMC would have left the FMC in a heartbeat if she were injured and a mob of zombies was closing in lolol 🧟‍♂️🧟‍♂️

I do love a good zombie book, and this was certainly no exception. It was nice for once to have a different setting for the zombie apocalypse, this time set in the United Kingdom. Mia is 17 and a sixth former at an all-girls boarding school when the world goes to hell. With a touch and go prologue who will survive the end of days. I have to admit some bits of the story were a little predictable but this in no way took away from the story for me, in fact, it enhanced the parts of the story I didn't see coming. I loved it from start to finish, and read it in just one sitting. Can't wait for the next story in this series!

I've been in an end of the world/zombie apocalypse mood for a while now. So when I came across this, I couldn't wait to read it.
First off, that cover is fricking AMAZING!!! It drew me in and I HAD to have more.
The story didnt disappoint either. I absolutely loved it. Seeing the end of the world in a different country, was kinda awesome. The story line kept me hooked. I loved the characters. I didnt want it to end, and I'm left wanting more. So fricking good!!

The rule of TAG, is dont get caught!

You had me at zombies. I am a sucker for a good thriller and even better if it includes zombies.

Mia has been surviving on her own since the outbreak but when a group of people break into her sanctuary, everything changes.

Alex feels a need to protect this girl who has made it on her own. It’s obvious she can fend for herself, but everyone needs a little human touch.

Great story behind the outbreak. Characters you can’t help but love. Action and drama and even a bit of love.

Can’t wait to see what happens next.

This was a fantastic read. Wow, what can I say about this storyline? It's absolutely incredible. So innovative and inventive. The author writes with so much imagination but somehow still manages to create some realism so that you feel the book is happening right now. The world building is something else and I loved reading it. The characters were great to get to know. This story has everything you could want.

This is an amazing story! Not one I normally read but I loved it so much.

The characters are fantastic to read about and I could just keep reading and reading about them. I was left wanting more from their story and their journey to survive.

The story had twists and turns, and when thought it was going one way, it took a different turn.

Definitely a 5 ⭐️ read.

This book is absolutely amazing! It will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time. This was my first zombie apocalypse book I have read and I loved every minute of it especially the romance. This book was a cover read for me. I really looked forward to a book about zombies, I haven't read many of them. Unfortunately, I expected to read to be more about the zombies than the survivors since the cover has a mouth covered in blood. This was still a good book, I just really felt that the ending left no point to the story. It was too much of an abrupt ending.

I enjoyed the story. I've read plenty of Vampire and Witch type book's, but this is the first Zombie book I have read and I have to say I enjoyed it.

I loved the chemistry between Alex and Mia, I think that they worked well together which is shown in the story when they are planning to see what Mia's father is up to. I liked Donovan he was cool and his involvement in places helped the story. I hated Karen, she was horrible for no reason. It's not like it was Mia's fault that their friend got shot in the leg with one of Mia's arrow's, they turned up at her place not the other way round. I thought that Leo was a lunatic, who did he think he was? and Sammy and Mia's father are stupid, did Sammy really think that Alex was going to break into a secure safe for a lunatic. Also did Mia's father really think he cold keep his little experiments on the Z's a secret forever? I don't think so.

I was going to give this 5 stars as I really did enjoy it but I was disappointed in the ending, to me it felt like it ended on a cliffhanger with some unanswered questions.
- Did they ALL get back to Rosehill and the Army Base Camp?
- Did the cure work?
- Did Anna manage to escape and meet up with the others?

Despite these unanswered questions I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick read and anyone who likes to read about Zombies.

They found Love In a Hopeless Place

Set in the UK during a zombie apocalypse, that the government engineered. A school girl named Mia and a guy named Alex find each other and together they try to stay alive.

I really liked this book and that is saying a lot since I don't read a lot of horror books. I was sucked in to the story immediately. There was romance, but it did not over power the storyline. I feel like the book is mainly about how even in a world that is falling apart you can't lose yourself or hope. Overall the story was great. My only negative thing is that I wish it was a little bit longer. I would recommend this book.
