It is always great to have new and healthier ideas for cooking. I am an air fryer users and was astounded by the delicious creations Kleinworth created. Not just wonderful recipes but pictures and detailed information, including calorie counts with the ideal portions for two.
I received this copy of The Essential Air Fryer Cookbook for Two from Callisto Media-Rockridge Press. This is my honest and voluntary review.
My Rating: 5 stars Written by: Gina Kleinworth Paperback: 164 pages Publisher: Rockridge Press Publication Date: March 5, 2019 ISBN-10: 1641523107 ISBN-13: 978-1641523103 Genre: Cookbook
Disappointing. This was my first air fryer cookbook, and I hope any others I buy will be better than this. While all of the recipes are portioned for two people (which is perfect for my household), many of the recipes use ingredients in a way that would be wasteful (for example, 2 tablespoons of apple pie filling -- I'm not going to open a can of apple pie filling to use 2 T and throw away the rest!). Many of the recipes seem incomplete; I don't know if that was a problem from converting the print version to Kindle, or all editions have this issue. But for example, a good recipe book will, if a pan is required, state at the beginning what size pan is best and how to prepare it. This book NEVER states what size pan to use or how to prepare it. Instead, towards the end, the instructions will say to pour the batter into the prepared pan. Obviously, food will cook much differently in a smaller pan than a larger pan, so knowing the recommended pan size is critical to successful air fry the food. At least one recipe says to cut out four circles of dough, but then you only use two. What are the other two for? The instructions often say to spray the food with olive oil, but nowhere in the text does it say why olive oil, or if other oils can be substituted, or explains whether you should buy an oil spritzer or if the aerosolized oil is OK. Some instructions say to put a parchment liner in the fryer basket, but nowhere in the book does it state whether the liner should only cover the bottom or should extend up the sides. There is a helpful chart at the back with cooking times and temperatures for many foods that is probably the best feature of the cookbook. This book has the potential to be good, but the finished product is not. I hope this was just an oversight of the author/editor/layout person, and that an updated version will be released to fix the oversights.
I purchased an AirFryer a month or so ago and I am loving it, I needed recipes though and when I got the offer for this book I jumped at the chance. Funny it came around the time I got the AirFryer. The AirFryer Cookbook for two is perfect. I hate making more food than hubby and I need. The book has an introduction for how to use the Airfryer, how to shop and prep your food. An explanation on the best and worst foods to use and of course the recipes. These recipes have wonderful pictures and easy to read instructions. There are recipes from breakfast to desserts and everything in between. The ending of the book is great too as it has AirFryer cooking charts. Perfect. I hope to get a lot of use out of the cookbook!
Just downloaded this book on my kindle. I immediately read it non stop to the end. Since I am new to air frying, I have been searching for cookbooks and accessories. This book has a variety of foods, flavors, and suggestions. Best of all it doesn't read like a science experiment. Now to start cooking!
I was amazed at how easy these recipes were to make. I’m thrilled at how fast I could cook up something tasty, healthy and non-greasy. My husband and I take turns cooking - when it’s mine I need help. So, cookbooks are my friends. I know this one is going to be one of my favorites.
The recipes I tried were the Baked Zucchini Fries, Light and fluffy cheddar biscuits, Parmesan Shrimp, and Chocolate-banana Croissants. My family and I LOVED these recipes. There are dozens more I’m looking forward to trying.
The recipe sections are broken down into Breakfast & Brunch, Snacks and Appetizers, Vegetables and Sides, Fish and Seafood, Poultry, Beef, Pork, and Lamb, and finally desserts.
There are lovely food pictures to kick off each food section. I liked that the author put the Serving Size, Prep Time, Cook Time and Ingredients on the top of the page. It’s easy to look at. At the bottom there is a nutritional break down for each serving. The author includes an Ingredient and/or variation tip for most of the recipes. I found them to be helpful. This is soon to be my go-to cookbook when it’s my turn to be in the kitchen. This book is a win win for me.

Anyone with many gadgets in the kitchen knows that adding something new better be worth it. Counter and cabinet space are at a premium, so either something has to go or if the item is getting counter space, it better be because it is a well-used item. I’ve heard so many rave reviews about air fryers, that I finally bought one in January. It came with 10 recipes and no nutritional information, so I knew that a cookbook was in my future.
There is an introduction which details the benefits of air frying, how it works, step-by-step directions, frequently asked questions, and the best and worst foods to air fry. Every recipe has nutritional information, a variation tip, prep time, cook time, and temperature. What you aren’t getting are many pictures. Each chapter highlights one of the recipes with the picture, so if that is a dealbreaker for you, be aware.
Since I’m relatively new to this, I chose different recipes to see how they would come out. Juicy seasoned pork tenderloin, Tandoori chicken breast with light mint yogurt sauce, Parmesan Shrimp, Roasted carrots, and Easy Meatball sandwiches are the ones I’ve tried. All were straightforward without any hard to find ingredients and very good. I enjoyed the air fryer cooking charts as they cover a lot of foods that you may cook(frozen hash browns, frozen burritos, fresh mushrooms, fresh zucchini, chicken tenders, crab cakes, and a whole lot more).
I’m using the air fryer four or five nights a week so it’s definitely worth the counter space. A cookbook like this makes all the difference in trying new things and seeing just how much the air fryer can replace the stove, the oven, and the slow cooker. Besides the lack of pictures, my only other concern is some of the recipes really don’t seem to be that healthy. Sodium, cholesterol, and carbohydrates can be high on some of the recipes but with some substitutions, I’m able to make them work. The Essential Air Fryer Cookbook for Two was a really nice way to get to know my air fryer and I’ll be trying additional recipes. I received an ARC from RockRidge Press through Callisto Publisher's Club.
Written by Gina, a wife, mother and cook who loved fried foods but came to the realization that regular fried foods were not good for her. Gina was a little skeptical about whether an air fryer could really produce tasty food so started experimenting. She was in for a pleasant surprise! Now with her kids mostly out of the home, it's mainly her and her husband around the dinner able. HOWEVER don't let that put you off if your family is bigger. The recipes in this book can be doubled if needed.
I was pleased to see Gina advising her readers to buy food in bulk. Do you know how much money you can save this way rather than shopping week by week? Never used an air fryer? Details are given in Chapter 1 so you will soon be very knowledgeable. Look for the recipes that have a purple ribbon. These are Gina's favorites!
IMPORTANT to note that some of these recipes are not what some would call healthy i.e. they contain canned biscuit dough, sugar, all-purpose flour etc. The recipe sections are as follows: Breakfast and Brunch * Snacks and Appetizers * Vegetables & Sides * Fish and Seafood * Poultry * Beef, Pork and Lamb * Dessert
There are a good selection of recipes but don't expect a lot of pics as there aren't very many! What you will find are clear ingredient lists and instructions etc. At the end you find Air Fryer cooking charts which you will likely find VERY helpful if experimenting with your own recipes. These are followed by Measurement Conversion Charts and the Recipe Index. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. That has not influenced my review with the thoughts and opinions above being my own. Thanks, Liz
Great book focused on air-frying for two people. First chapter includes info on air frying as a cooking method, faqs, etc. Then lots of recipes are separated by breakfast, snacks/apps. veggies and sides, seafood, poultry, meat, and desserts. The recipes were a nice variety of items and flavors. All recipes include nutritional information. Recipes are marked as being particularly fast, and for dietary needs like gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan. Back of the book has cooking time charts for fresh and frozen items and different cuts of meat. Only drawback is that I wish there were more photos. The ones that were included looked really appetizing, but there were just a few. I received an ebook ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.
Very informative and a interesting read, love the way the recipes are setup ,what more can you ask for in a cookbook. She has covered everything from homemade to frozen foods. This is a great book even if you have a larger family because of the size of the oven. Great cookbook for general use.Think I will make the Maple glazed donuts to go with my cappuccino .
I love this book. The recipes are easy to follow and the food is delicious.
I have followed Gina almost since the beginning of her website and have enjoyed her posts and enjoying the foods and activities from her suggestions. She is a delightful person and the world needs more loving spirits like hers. I plan on purchasing several more copies of the book once it goes on sale to send as gifts to friends and family.
I really like this collection of recipes and cannot wait to try all of them out. They are simple and easy to prepare and best yet lower in calories because of the airfryer. Yes you do want this book so go ahead and buy it now!
After hearing someone who received an air fryer as a gift to only make toast in it, a cookbook seemed essential. East to follow recipes and instructions including FAQ and tips. Some unusual recipes however will try some new foods. Received a copy from publisher but it did not influence my review.
I received an air fryer for Christmas. This is the first cookbook on air fryers that has me interested in using mine! The recipes are of food most people would enjoy eating. The recipes use ingredients that are in most kitchens or easily obtainable.
This offers so many new and unique options for the air fryer. Even has things you wouldn't normally think of. If you're tired of the same old same old, this book is for you! Buying a copy for my son!
Easy to follow recipes and simple ingredients. this is a must have for those getting started with an air fryer. I found it easy to follow and everything tasted great.
This is a great book. Beautiful, easy to follow recipes that cater for two people. This is definitely going to be one of my go to recipe books for when hubby and I are on our own.
This book is set out really well, with lots of information to get you started with your air fryer before delving into the recipes. Not a lot of pictures but the ones that are in this book are vibrant in colour and pleasing to the eye.
What I loved about this book is that there aren't huge lists of ingredients with over the top instructions, they are well set out and provide all the information you need and the calorie reader at the end of each recipe is a bonus.
One of the best sections in this book is at the end of the recipes. All the helpful charts for so many foods, measurement conversions, volume equivalents that definitely help you in US standard or metric, oven temps and weight equivalents.
Thanks to NetGalley and Calista Media, Rockridge Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.
