Private Investigator, Mason Gray, has a reputation for solving impossible cases. But when an ancient artifact inexplicably vanishes from the Field Museum, that reputation will be put to the test.

To solve this case, he must delve deeper into Chicago's supernatural world and call on his newly discovered abilities—unless they kill him in the process—to find a thief who's never been caught.

But things are never as they appear in The White City, and every answer he uncovers leads to new questions. And new enemies. If Gray fails to recover the artifact, it will start a war that will destroy the city he loves. To save it, he is forced to make an impossible choice: make a deal with the Devil or become one himself.

I actually thought the second book was better than the first (although the first book has most of the background). I liked the plot and the added characters, plus I like the fact that the cat takes a role in this story (what happened to Willy at the end?). I'm excited for the third book in the series... hope it comes soon!

Following Mason Gray on this episode of his journey was spellbinding to say the least. Along with being a very good detective story, there is a mystery lying just beneath the surface of this story. The overall story arc that started in Missing, the first Mason Gray book, continues in Stolen and seems to have developed a number of interrelated hazy paths that provide just enough detail to make you want to follow each of them even though the destination is nowhere exposed. Mason Gray has become one of my favorite detectives, and I sure hope the next installment of his story becomes available in the very near future.

This is the second installment in William C. Markham's Mason Gray series. Clearly inspired by series like the Dresden Files, it's a noir PI mystery with some twists and turns. I hate it when I can figure out what's going to happen next, but this story kept me guessing. I really enjoyed this audio book.

The narrator, Adam Barr, has the perfect voice for a noir PI mystery. He isn't the most consistent narrator when it comes to character voices (some of the accents were clearly outside his comfort zone), but despite that, I enjoyed his performance.

If you're a fan of noir urban fantasy mysteries, this one is worth a listen.

I do not usually read this type of book but it just grabbed me and I am so happy it did. I went from book one right to book two. This is a really great series with a lot of action, unusual characters, humor and just darn good!
