The light Catcher is quite possibly the easiest to read book I've picked up this year ... it was entertaining, easy flowing and quick to read. Yet it also packed a serious punch.

I dare you to read this book and not feel inspired to work harder, pursue your passion and build your own personal brand.

With this simple book you are going to know exactly what you need to do to follow your passion! Author Sameer Chopra doesn't waste any time giving you a bunch of details but he gives you a plan to follow through Protagonist Purab.

This book is perfect for anyone who is interested in taking advantage of living life through passion and strengths.

The book does get you motivated and it does make you believe that you can leave the 9 - 5 job and start something you're passionate about.
If you have a true passion - something that you think about eating, breathing, sleeping - than you will be able to be successful in life and in business

In this encouraging dedication to the multipassionate individual, Sameer Chopra writes about a unique personality type often struggling to find its place in the world.

Through provocative activities, The Light Catcher addresses the rewards and challenges of having multiple interests and, more specifically, how to incorporate this myriad of interests into your life when everything and everyone is demanding that you choose just one over your passion.

The Author, Sameer Chopra, is very clear about leaving work that you don't enjoy (paid or unpaid) out of your focal point sampler. This would include things like the job you keep to pay the bills,

The magic of The Light catcher comes down to honestly assessing your values and priorities and then creating time in your life to embrace them.

This was an incredible book. Sameer Chopra hit all of the nails right on the head. From identifying a Renaissance soul to working with people that don't understand what that is as well as how to function in a business environment, this book has all of it.
If you have ever felt like you have deep passions for some thing and that do not align with what you're doing currently, Then this book is written for you only.

A debut novel to cross 250 page mark, in itself is a milestone achieved. When most of the new writers shy away from writing long formats, it is also daunting to think of an idea that can lead you to that mark. Sameer Chopra has done a pretty good job in his debut novel.

The Light Catcher takes you on a fictional journey of Purab (the protagonist) and his life in corporate sector. The journey from a set paycheck to a profession that is highly unstable yet full of passion, photography; is highly relatable and aspirational. It's also interesting to see the contrast between him and Rati; where she is the one who is made for a corporate job.

The narration is easy to understand and flows quite naturally, blending the two different timelines of the book quite effortlessly. The book several times touches upon how the plans often get disturbed and yet you have to keep moving forward, come what may. The storyline is realistic and characters are relatable too, best part of the book is that the events happening in the book can happen with anyone known.

It is a well written contemporary fiction incorporating all the elements of drama; it is aspirational as well as an inspiring read. It also has detailed technical tit bits for photographers that makes the book even more authentic.

The book cover does justice to the book and breaks down all the elements in great detail, until everything starts to make sense; even the title of the book.

I wish the book was less cliched to point of being predictable at certain climax points. But overall, it's a good read for those who are in corporate job or who are wanting to read a corporate fiction novel to inspire them to new beginnings.

Follow Your Heart is one of those books that will remain in my library indefinitely. Sameer Chopra outlines the basic rules of life through this book, the lessons we are to learn in life and the fact it won't always be easy, but if we understand the rules of God and nature, it's much more bearable. His insights are succinct and right on the mark, and the story is well drawn.
This is a book I will likely read every couple months, for positive remedial value. It's not a long book, but it contains a wealth of information and positive advice.

Brilliant and breath-taking , “The Light Catcher “ written by Sameer Chopra is all about the corporate employees, their grapple about work, careers, work load etc. The book is having two parts and the first part is about corporate world and the second part is about art and photography.

This book has the most hauntingly beautiful prose I've ever read. It's brimming with rich details that fill all five senses simultaneously. It's full of beautiful metaphors that paint gorgeous images. The detail given about photography, the cameras used to capture images, the lenses used and the angles to create beautiful pictures, it is simply lovely. I couldn't put it down.. I didn't want this book to end.

A meaningful cover design… a person with camera in his hand looking beyond the sky and the display of full moon and stars on sides and the tag line of “A vicious circle and a thrilling redemption”. Over all the visual component of this book cover is quite astounding.

Coming back to the story:-

Purab Kholi after completing his MBA lands up the job in Indian Banking Corporation (IBC) as a Management Trainee. On his first day of job he meets a colleague, Rati and later on both of them started sharing their feeling for each other.

A straight forward Purab Kholi battle to complete monthly targets and he is occasionally warned and catches his superiors attention. Purab is addicted to photography and he likes to spend his weekend by taking photos of the real life of Delhi. He roams around Delhi during his free time with his camera and tries to capture everything which seeks attention. Later he realises his passion towards photography and decides to leave his job. Soon he realises the world of photography is also tough and very hard to get a real chance.

Will Purab be able to achieve his dream? How he will succeed?

Characterisation and writing style:-

The characterizations are superb and the author fabricated and manages the characters very well. The light catcher is totally a different book altogether. Each character has played their role very well. The writing is incredible, the descriptions so vivid. It did a superb job of showing the reader how the characters felt through their actions. The story alternates between time periods and for me this technique increased the level of suspense, especially as the story progressed. There are an abundance of characters and these are very well developed by Sameer Chopra. Some we can clearly love, some we abominate, and some we may find to be walking a nebulous line between good and bad.

The language is so fantastically precise. A enormously moving and enthralling work. A unique story and beautifully written. What kept me turning pages, rather, were the characters’ lives and the short, well-crafted scenes. The author treats Purab and Trisha with equal empathy, and their interaction – when they finally meet – is not your stereotypical love story. It is much better, much more bittersweet and haunting.

There may not be words sufficient to exclaim just how magnificent an accomplishment this book is. Amazing, spectacular, incredible, moving, engaging, emotional, gripping, celestial, soulful, and fracking brilliant might give some indication. This book is a treasure; anyone who enjoys a beautiful and compelling story should read this and savour each and every word. Overall this was a masterpiece of wonderful storytelling and was an absolutely absorbing read. It is a juxtaposition of both heart-breaking and uplifting moments throughout the book, with streams of hope and determination running throughout. It's a book about loss, desperation, thriving for success, protection, love, and everything you can possible come up with, with doses of believing in the impossible.

Whenever a book crosses its thickness above 250 pages, it needs to be very engaging, riveting, appealing and interesting to keep the readers excited to turn every page until the story does not end. And when the book crosses the mark of 300-pages, then it absolutely brings with it lots of expectations and hope for the reader that at the end of the story, it shall definitely give something to the life of the reader too. Not many books are able to impress the reader but one book which has recently surprised me with the way it is written is “The Light Catcher” by the author, Sameer Chopra.

The cover page describes the whole essence of the book which shows a great city with skyscrapers staying awake all the night, the protagonist standing alone and observing the city with a camera in his hand in a hope to get famous and mark his existence in the maximum city. The tagline says “A vicious circle and a thrilling redemption”.

The narrative used by the author to tell the story is one of the bests I have experienced by a debutante. Not even once did I feel that the book is written by someone who has just come into the writing world. When I read the bio of author, I understood that most of the parts in the story must be inspired from his personal experience which is why you find the story realistic covering incidents which are full of failures, full of moments coming in the hands and slipping away, full of passion of going against the world to prove oneself, the love for mother like a middle-class boy, the frustration at office, the heartbreaks etc.

The characters are so nicely elaborated that you understand the pain and confusion of each one of them. Specially, the protagonist, Purab, becomes a part of yourself as the way his thoughts and approaches are discussed makes you relate yourself with him after every 2-5 pages. The way he faces rejection at office because of being straight-forward or the way he is ignored by Professional Photographers irrespective of the commitment he shows in photography makes us feel for him but I am glad author kept the whole thing crude and practical rather than showing unreal and overnight success kind of a fairy-tale. The characters of Trisha, Rati and Sneha fits so well in the story that you would love and hate them with times when they understand and misunderstand the protagonist respectively.

The way book displays the two world- one of corporate in the first half and then one of the art in the second half is done with such distinctness that you can feel you are at both the places with the character. The injustice one has to go through to finally land upon success is nicely portrayed for both the worlds and essence can be truly felt as a reader. I am myself been experiential of both of these worlds hence I could feel how perfectly author has woven the same in his book. The details of photography are also mentioned in a way that non-photographers will also enjoy how a photographer has to get into details before clicking a picture of yours. Talking about the climax, it is very well ended with such emotions that I wasn’t able to stop thinking about everything for at least 3 hours after finishing the book.

Talking about the drawbacks, I could feel that author ended up making the protagonist think about his 1st love quite sometimes even after he gets into a lot of things and people which makes it little cheesy at times. Also, at few places, the details of photography are explained too much that you would even want to skip it if not interested as it does not take the story forward. The success of Purab is nicely discussed but how he takes certain decisions as an entrepreneur should have been part of the story to make it more exciting. The book could have been kept little shorter if a crisp editing could have been done. Except these few points, this book is a wonderful experience to be read. I will give it 4.25* out of 5.

The Story
It is an amusing story of a young artist called Purab who in search of a comfortable life, enters the competitive corporate world. Living in the fast paced life of a Metro, he is constantly pushed to fulfil his targets and yet is under – represented and seldom recognized for his hard work. Amongst all this confusion he finds solace in photography and the company of Rati, his co – worker, who herself is pulled towards the glamour of this World.

A terrible betrayal leads him on a path that may change the nature of his being. Will this path console his hurt sentiments and also, act as an inspiration his life urges for or will it leave him hanging in uncertainty and doom? Moreover, what will it mean to the bond blossoming between Purab and Rati?

First Impression
I was attracted to the cover art of ‘The light Catcher’ that tries to illuminate several themes that might be addressed within the book. The title has a deeper meaning itself (which I learnt later in the story) that initially I thought directly referred to the subject matter mentioned in the blurb. The blurb provides a basic idea on the book, giving the readers an option to decide whether the storyline satiates their reading taste or not.

My Review
The story focuses on the corporate working environment and how it has an impact on the people within that environment. With an easy narration, the author deals with the themes of self – discovery and following one’s passion while recounting the struggles one undergoes to survive in any industry. Purab passionately beliefs in a life beyond this system but is forced to stay put as it pays well for him to cover his expenses. But, soon his calling towards photography takes him on a different path that has varied consequences on his personal and professional life. The author recounts these situations with much detail that a corporate worker may be able to relate to. Purab’s dedication and belief on his work to the extent of disregarding authority or dominant social norms sets a strong statement though out the book.

The plot was entertaining as we follow Purab and Rati taking decisions and facing their consequences. The different characters facilitated in the progression of the story and the suspense of Purab’s fate remained till the very last pages.

What I loved the most?
I liked the author’s writing style as he solidly described a typical 9 to 5 working system, something which will resonate with a person from the corporate environment. Also, the author’s commendable eye to details as he provided a realistic life graph of the protagonist as he faced failures and achieved success through the years, beautifully tracing the various characters one meets and the disappointments and the bliss Life offers over time.

Overall, a realistic and well written contemporary fiction that is based on the mad rush and competitive environment of the Corporate World and the lives of the individuals trapped within this frenzied snare. Purab’s character may inspire, irrespective of all the hurdles one has to cross or even putting at stake everything one owns, to create new possibilities and follow one’s passion.

Would I recommend this book?
If any reader is interested in the genre of Corporate Drama, then she/ he/ they can definitely check the book out. It has a tone of romance and self – exploration as well for the readers of the respective genres.

Sameer Chopra crafts interesting characters in his debut novel The Light Catcher. We have read about the cut throat competition in the corporate world earlier. What makes The Light Catcher different from other books is it brilliant characterization. So we have Purab the protagonist who finds soon that the corporate world is not his cup of tea. On the contrary his love interest Rati is born for the corporate life, she takes to it like fish takes to water. The attraction between these two is the masterstroke of the writer. It keeps you glued to the story, eager to know what happens next.

The writing is sharp and crisp. The events in the life of the protagonist are easy to relate to. We feel for the protagonist and that I think is the success of the author. There are very few books that succeed in painting realistic picture of the things and The Light Catcher is definitely one of them. Don't miss this one.

We all have moments in life when we hit our lowest point, but then something comes along that changes how we see perceive ourselves & the lessons we have to learn.
I was not sure where this book was headed when I began, and I'm not sure where I landed at the end, but I do know I enjoyed the journey.
In this novel, The Light Catcher, you simply ride along on a river of magical prose until, every page or two, you hit the rapids with an awesome sentence or idea that whirls you around and leaves you breathless.

This author, Sameer Chopra, has a real talent of taking a serious subject, getting the message across, and keeping the reader engaged. His writing skills are much better.
My guess is that the average reader can sit down with this book and read it from cover to cover in a few hours and go away with insight of a path for happiness.

If words could bring out the emotions vividly, this book certainly qualifies for it. This novel is about a story of the protagonist who wanted to pursue his dreams - His dreams of catching the light. The story stamps the authority over the passion and if you put up your action to chase your dream, you certainly can achieve it. The story though is a fiction, would go a long way in inspiring the like minded people who has quit the so called "Dream Jobs" in order to pursue their own dreams and all it needs is their hard work and dedication and nothing else.

Despite being a Science graduate, Purab Kohli aka Purab who is the protagonist of the story does his MBA from a leading B-School and lands up the job in Indian Banking Corporation(IBC) as MT(Management Trainee) along with few others like Rati, Trisha, Rahul and Ishika. The story points out the stark reality of what happens in the so called Corporate World which is full of favoritism and treachery. I could very well relate myself to it as I witnessed most of the events mentioned in the story first hand as I myself has worked in a leading MNC bank for 8 years before quitting it to pursue my own dreams.

Though Purab was getting paid handsome, his heart did not get contended with the money. He wanted to pursue his dream - of being a photographer. Again, this is also very much related to my own story a bit (though I did not want to become one but my dad was a professional photographer just like Purab's father before calling it quits).

He also finds solace in the hands of Rati initially who started loving him. When things were going smooth, Rati starts avoiding Purab.

What made her to do this?

Did Purab reconcile with her?

Did he achieve his dream?

All these have been beautifully captured with great narration and splendid sequence of events in this novel.

I would like to quote a few lines as an excerpt from this novel which I liked the most:

"I mean, the camera always records what is real. It doesn't lie; it doesn't manipulate unless you explicitly want it to"

"And while faces may deceive, the camera does not lie. He can see it that her happiness has shrunk over the years"

"Well you did make a mistake Rati and you will pay for it"

This book despite of being a debut novel by the author has got all the elements in place which is beautifully spun and can make even the iron hearts, melt...

The plot is about purab who does a mundane job in banking and falls in love with his colleague ,soon to get dumped by her. Struggling with his corporate politics, he finds solace in rediscoveres his passion for photography, which once his father had and wanted to establish himself, but went missing in quest of it in foreign land.

The plot ends with How purab establishes himself with is unique concept of photography after ditching his banking job and how a friendship with his colleague develops feeling in him and progresses into love once again.

Even though its a usual plot, it gave me a insight of struggles in photography(not just clicking) and how difficult it is to establish a carrier in it and sustain.

There are many examples of famous people who succeeded by finding their element, whether it be in the arts, sciences, social involvement or any other worthwhile human endeavour. The interesting thing is that in many respects the structures of formal society seemed stacked against these individuals being able to find their true creative talents. It took someone or some special circumstance to trigger the discovery of their element, that special space where they could be immersed in creative and innovative endeavour.
This book really strikes home to central message that any and every TED talk is about; passion, elemental passion.
Even if what you are passionate about does not make you money, or does not make you a lot of money, it is still something that can change your life forever.

‘Realism’ is one word for this novel. The story of a common middle class man oscillating between pragmatism and passion, and achieving success in the latter with perseverance, against all odds of life, is a familiar plot in the present times. However, as with every story what makes The Light Catcher different, is the way in which it is narrated.

Set in the capital of the nation, Delhi, the author has managed to capture the urbanism and the corporate life style in its true essence. The novel is divided into two parts: part one is The Carousel, and part is The Quest for Light. The timeline of the novel ranges from 2008-2015, and almost the entire story is narrated in the protagonist, Purab’s point of view, though a third person narrative is employed. In the first part, the readers get to see the typical corporate life scenario and how a persona with an artist’s gene finds it a dire struggle to cope up with the targets, meeting, deadlines and superficial relationships of a 9 to 5 office job. The inner conflict reaches its peak when Purab faces certain events and he takes the big decision.

The second part, as the name suggests, is all about how Purab achieves his dreams—a very elaborated account of journey to success. And perhaps, it is this detailing that makes this novel realistic. Unlike in the superstar movies in which the hero turns a billionaire overnight, the readers get to see the repeated failures and compromises the protagonists makes before achieving his dream.

By and large, most of the story is predictable, but the genuineness of it keeps one turning the pages. Apart from the chase-your-dream factor, the novel has beautifully captured the relationship struggles of the modern times. What stands out most is definitely the toil of the artist in striking a balance between commitment to people versus that to his passion. On the other hand, the emotional hardships of the lady who falls in love with the artist is also well portrayed.
Towards the end of the story, Purab achieves all what he dreams off, but the author has thoughtfully made the recuperation of his love story slow, ordinary and quite unceremonious. And that makes the whole deal a true reflection of life.

First of all thanks to Sameer Chopra for sending me the book in return of a honest review. This book is about purab a engineer pass out who joins a Indian Bank as a sales manager. How he changes his career from being a sales manager to a renowned photographer. Sameer being from financial background has a proper nuance of photography. How purab being in bank does not understand the politics played in the bank. Being close to top official can take you high like Rati (one of the protagonist in the book). This book starts with 5 youngsters joining the bank as a trainee namely purab, trisha, rati, ishika and rahul. How rahul and ishika rise in the corporate world in the first year and then rati following them by being close to one of the high official deepak. Purab and trisha being a left out who does what is required and stay in the same position. Purab being in bank for a year he leaves job to be photographer. How he becomes a renowned photographer is the story of the book. Overall this book is agood eye opener for the people who are in wrong profession. This book is a example about such person who is in wrong profession and chooses the profession what he wants to do and succeeds. Overall I would say it's a very good goodread... 🙂

A very optimistic write up a d I liked the lead role, the way he handles the emotions and achieves the goal is very nice. The story sometimes feel a little dragging but there is a lot interest that carries over.
A dreamer starts off career as a banker, falls in love with a girl who joins along with him. His interest towards photography keeps him interested in photos more than the sales. Soon he realizes he cannot survive in corporate world, to add to it his break up with his girl friend fills up his zeal to succeed in his area of interest. He starts his journey, with a lot of failures and changes of ideas he gets a break as a wedding photographer. But his interest keeps him moving, learning and experimenting. Will all that he creates a new fashion design which takes a lot of his efforts and earnings. But it takes more efforts for it to be published, and when it does he becomes a famous figure again.
I loved his commitment to learn and improve himself to succeed and achieve. A good read and a motivational story line. I liked the authors way of writing, will sure look for the next book.

The light catcher has delighted me with the words even when the fact that it is a debut work remains true.

With a spellbinding introduction of the corporate world and associated perks takes the most part of the book. This corporate world surely has several effects on its inhabitants. And that is what makes one feel left out in the arena of huge competition.

This is the story of Purab who is a part of the same corporate world and who is not satisfied with what he is doing. So he finds way to escape the boredom and stress into photography. And thus the book embarks upon this wonderful story.

I personally loved the cover and the thickness of the book is worth the read.
Following our passion and not just getting pissed with our profession is what this book aims to convey through its pages.

The narration and flow is superb. Loved the storyline. Writing style is decent and so is the fluency.

Overall, getting a glance of the corporate world has really given me insights into this major part of our lives.

Recommended to all those who are a part of this corporate world!

The story is inspiring. It doesn’t leave you with the sweet promises of following your dreams, it rather focuses on the hard part. It educates us about the struggle that we forget to notice.
The author, takes the reader on the journey of Purab’s hardships and his way of tackling those. It was really good to read about someone who found one way or another to keep the passion burning, even if the situations suggested otherwise. The plot line is very candid. Each and every twist and turn that we read about, had a huge possibility of happening if Purab was a real person.
For someone who understands the working of the camera, the reader could actually experiment with the methods stated in the book and try those.

The book lagged behind in presentation, there were parts that were too long and too detailed. They not only added up to the number of pages but also at times tested the patience of the reader.

And I couldn't have been more wrong.
The Light Catcher is different yet relatable, a quick read yet interesting. Considering that this is the author's debut novel, it couldn't have been more perfect. A young banker disillusioned by his job, forsaken by his love, decides to pursue his hobby and make it his life only to realise later that life is not so rosy and people are treacherous.
The author beautifully captures the intricacies of the Light Catcher and there are some gems sprinkled within the lines. I wouldn't give away much
I kept turning the pages in quick succession and it has been quite some time since I have done this. Definitely a read!

Long but interesting read

The story is inspiring. It doesn’t colour decorate the life pf person pursuing his art but it rather focuses on the hard part. It educates us about the struggle that we forget to notice.
The author, takes the reader on the journey of Purab’s life full of twist and turns as he decide to take up his passion of art on another leve, that is to turn it into an earning job. It was really inspiring to read about someone who found one way or another to keep the passion burning, even in difficult situations.
The book works like a guide for anyone who is interested in photography, as the details of Purab’s internships are explained with details including the technical parts.

Captivating

The cover page is awesome and abruptly resembles corporate life.
Purab wants to follow his desire to be a photographer but settles with a job in the corporate world. Still, he continues his passion and tries his luck. Finally, he makes it. The plot is good and depiction is awesome. The characters of the plot are craved nicely. One can able to relate themselves.
The author used Vivid language, easily understood by everyone. Can read it for one time.

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

I could relate to all emotions and could imagine every scene and live every moment of the book. The social message was something we had been talking about a lot in the past but that coming from a book is something new. There is a lot of research done while writing this story based on true incident and such detailing and characterisation needs a salute. Loved the way this book has been brought out and shaped well.

I am sure someday a Bollywood director or producer will make a movie on this book and then people will claim it a blockbuster but even before that, it is already a blockbuster book as it really impressed me. A heart winning novel that deserves to be on every best selling chart. Liking a book is one thing but loving it is another. This falls in the second category

My review
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
It's not only a story, but the reality which we face in the 21st century. The author placed every character in a manner, which will force you to stick to the book until the end. The story revolves around purab kohli and rati both started working together in the corporate sector. However, purab is not a regular 9to5 working guy, and soon he lost interest in his job and gained a new obsession of photography while rati is made for the corporate world she knows how to climb the ladder of success. The effect of the corporate world left a huge impact on purab's life.

The story truly depicts the working environment and people we get to know in the corporate world. The author himself is a financial sector professional and an avid photographer so you will get the fine details of the banking sector as well the photography.

There is nothing that I didn't like about the story. This is a Must-read book guy.
