The Dark Falls police department failed her as a young girl, but now she’s a detective herself, and her hometown needs her help. Returning to the place where it all began could crack open her past and leave her raw and exposed if she’s not careful.
Mason England isn’t fond of going undercover without his usual partner, but the state has assigned one of their own detectives to help solve a horrific murder. After all, the victim is the governor’s daughter, and all evidence points to a local club. Mason’s temporary partner takes his breath away the moment she enters the precinct. But Nicole is a conundrum. She guards her secrets close, so close that Mason realizes no one has ever penetrated her walls.
Sharing her past with Mason, or anyone, isn’t an option. Nicole does not date. Ever. But Mason is persistent and patient. As Nicole’s past unravels, threatening to destroy her, Mason just might prove capable of grabbing the pieces as they fall and putting her back together again.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest! I loved the book! Nicole thought that she had left Dark Falls behind for good. Now, she has to go back. Mason does not know what to make of his new partner. As they work together, they also grown close together as well. Will they be strong enough to give love a chance ? It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
This was another amazing book in this multi author Dark Falls series with Nicole a kidnap victim from sixteen years ago in Dark Falls who had to return now that she is a police detective to work undercover with Mason to catch a serial killer of young woman. Her case was never solved because she lost her memory and was found by the side of the with her best friend, Missy, never heard from again. She suffered from nightmares that were just now giving her clues to what happened to her the three days she was gone. This new case she was to going undercover with Mason at a BDSM club because that is where the senators daughter was headed on a date with a guy she met at the dog park since she was the first victim. Det. Mason was familiar this BDSM community having dabbled in that kinky side since he knew the rope used to kill the girl was used contained special knots used in staging. Nicole and Mason became very close as she played the part of his submissive and the chemistry between them showed they were not just playing a part. In the meantime there was another murder and the girl also met her date at the dog park so now Nicole had to go undercover and try to pickup a suspect at the dog park by pretending to be a dog owner. Mason volunteered his dog hoping to make Nicole comfortable being around dogs that terrified her. It was exciting how the whole Dark Falls police department worked together to solve these murders with Mason and Nicole falling in love as she learns to finally trust a man and with her nightmares revealing what happened to her sixteen years ago. The clues all fell in place after a woman comes forward with information that helped close the case as he had abducted another girl and they saved her life. It was fantastic as Nicole found happiness with Mason and was changing her career choices as she uncovered what happened to her years ago. They got their happily ever after what she never thought was possible. This is a fabulous multi author series and I cannot wait to read the next release.
Dark Nightmares (Dark Falls, CO Romantic Thriller Book 4) By Becca Jameson 5 Stars
Who doesn’t love an author that can write across genres? Paranormal? Check. Erotic? Check. Sci-Fi? Check. Romantic Suspense? Check!! Becca Jameson seems to be able to do it all and her newest book Dark Nightmares is a HIT! From the start of the book, Ms. Jameson hooks the reader by the throat and doesn’t let go! I have to admit that romantic suspense is not high on my list of favorite types of books to read but I couldn’t resist picking up this beauty by Ms. Jameson and I was NOT disappointed!
Set in Dark Falls, CO Nicole Salway swore she would never return to her hometown. Plagued by nightmares that she cannot unravel, Nicole has struggled. As a detective herself, she is asked to return to her hometown to help solve a horrific murder. But will returning to the place it all began help her remember what her nightmares are about or just bring more suffering?
Mason England is not happy to be assigned a new partner by the State. But the minute he sees Nicole he is in awe. Nicole keeps her secrets closely guarded but Mason wants to help her heal and uncover them all. Will he be able to break through Nicole’s walls and help her heal or will their new case be the fall of them both?
Becca Jameson once again gifts the reader with engaging characters that you love. Nicole and Mason had so much chemistry but the slow build of the relationship and the backstory were perfect. This book is filled with suspense, romance, crime, passion. The plot was well done and smooth. The book flowed well and kept me engrossed until the very end. Another stellar book by Ms. Jameson. Everyone needs to pick up this book. You won’t be able to put it down! A page-turner until the very end!!
Mason finds himself attracted to his temporary partner Nicole Salway from the moment he lays eyes on her. He knew she was qualified or the State wouldn't have sent her to partner with him, he just wasn't expecting her to be so attractive.
Nicole didn't like being back in Dark Falls, she has nightmares from the events that led to her family moving away. She even changed her name so she could have some normality in her life. She never planned to return but her hometown needed a woman to go undercover with one of their own. Since the victim was the governor's daughter she couldn't refuse.
She was also skeptical about going into a BDSM club as a couple with Mason. She knows nothing about the lifestyle other than what she's read.
The visit to the club proves their is a definite chemistry between them, but Nicole doesn't stay with anyone. No one needs to know about her nightmares. Nightmares that have been escalating since she saw a woman in a cage at the Club.
Another murder and a lead that the victims met the killer at a dog park. This will require Nicole take a dog to the park in an attempt to lure him out. Mason helps her acclimate with one of his dogs to accomplish this part of the investigation. He also witnesses her having a nightmare and when she insists on returning to her hotel she admits the reason to be his seeing all her weaknesses.
Love the slow build to the relationship and the build up is sensual and emotional.
With fast paced suspense, plenty of emotion and the simmer to sizzle relationship, you won't be able to put this one down.
What an amazing romantic, thriller, crime drama all rolled in one! Nicole left her hometown of Dark Falls with plans to never look back. Nicole has worked hard to establish herself as a well-respected detective in another town in spite of an struggle with intense nightmares from something she seems to be trying to run from. Nicole is guarded and hold things close to the vest in an apparent effort to protect herself. Unfortunately her well-laid plans fall by the wayside when her supervisor assigns her to assist on a high profile case in none other than Dark Falls where Nicole finds herself partnered with a local detective, Mason, who find themselves having to go undercover together posing as a couple. Nicole has no time for relationships having dedicated herself to her career and fighting crime but finds her defenses crumbling in proximity to such an incredibly gorgeous man who is great at what he does. At the same time, Nicole's personal life appears ready to unravel as her nightmares worsen. Mason recognizes there is more at stake than Nicole wants to let on but can he breakthrough to his newfound partner and break the case? The layers of stories being presented, the prominent crime being investigated and Nicole's back story and possible trauma weave together beautifully. This story is intense and gripping and the chemistry and rapport between the characters is hot! -- I received an advance complimentary copy of this book and am delighted to offer this review.
Nicole Salway left Dark Falls eighteen years ago at a young age after a traumatic incident. She never intended to return to the one place that has plagued her with nightmares and stopped her from getting close to or trusting anyone. She feels damaged, closed down and unable to lead a normal life. Now she’s a detective in Denver PD, when a governor's daughter is murdered in Dark Falls she's assigned the case to go undercover with one of the DF detectives.
Mason England hates isn’t going undercover without his usual partner, but the state has assigned one of their own detectives to help solve a horrific murder, and all the evidence points to a local club. But Mason’s perspective changes when he sets his eyes on h I s temporary partner. He's instantly attracted to Nicole, can they remain professional whilst investigating the murder? Nicole is also attracted to Mason, is concentrating on getting answers whilst trying to guard her secrets.
Sharing her past with Mason, or anyone, just isn’t an option. As Nicole’s past unravels, threatening to destroy her, can Mason prove to her that he's capable of grabbing the pieces as they fall and help put her back together again whilst getting the answers they need.
I feel this book became more about Mason and Nicole then it did about being a thriller/mystery in finding the killer. It seemed too easy and left questions about finding the perpetrator of Nicole's trauma.
“Dark Nightmares “ is a romantic thriller that drew me right in from the beginning. Especially with the homicide investigation, a very high profile case for the daughter of the Governor was murdered. Even though Nicole has a past at Dark Falls she goes in to investigate. From the beginning I had questions on what happened to Nicole that she had hundreds of hours with a therapist and suffering from dreams. In the investigation Nicole is partnered up with Mason who immediately found her attractive. But Nicole also found him to be attractive for she called him Adonis. Even though there is an attraction Nicole fights it for she does not date coworkers and he also has knowledge of BDSM. Nicole is a little uncomfortable with the whole investigation for one being in Dark Falls and two it’s involving a BDSM club. So right off the bat I was drawn into the book. Throughout the book there are little hints on what happened to Nicole eighteen years ago. So I read on to learn what happened to her for in the prologue I had many questions. I highly enjoyed reading this book and definitely recommend this book. I’m now curious about the other books in this series, the Dark Falls CO Romantic Thriller, for this is the fourth book.
I was given an advanced reader copy of this book for my honest review.
Book 4: 4 stars I purchased a copy of steamy/ BDSM the Dark Nightmares in the Dark Falls Box Set 1-5 Dark Falls, CO Romantic Thrillers by Becca Jameson et al and this review was given freely. Book 5: 4 stars I purchased a copy of the Dark Terror in the Dark Falls Box Set 1-5 Dark Falls, CO Romantic Thrillers by Sara Owens et al and this review was given freely. A story of finding love after loss combined with the suspense of a murder/stalker and the unfiltered close relationships of the Dark Falls police detectives. Contains the dark themes of murder, mental illness and suicide. Leery of both love and her strong attraction to Detective Gabe Calder, after her police officer brother David is killed in the line of duty, murder witness and junior librarian Cara Jenner plus her newly acquired dog Cricket must rely on Gabe's protection.
Suspenseful romantic mystery......This is a book you cannot put down.i loved this book....Smile..... Something happened in DarkFalls to Nicole when she was young, she has no memory of the event only nightmares. Her parents moved to Denver shortly after she was found. She’s now a detective, and she’s been assigned to temporary partner with detective Mason in her old hometown of Dark Falls. There has been a murder, a young woman. Detective Mason is not happy going undercover with a temporary partner but the state has assigned one of their own, a detective Nicole Salway. The victim who was brutally killed was the governors daughter. Detective Mason English recognized the special rope and knots that the killer used on the victim as something that is used in BSDM role play. When Nicole shows up at the precinct in DarkFalls and is shown to the captains office she is introduced to her temporary partner detective Mason there is a spark, a chemistry between them. .that they have to ignore, if they want to do their job. They have a killer to find and they do not do relationships ever.....this is the beginning of the story ..I loved this book. Great characters really great plot...very suspenseful ...I hated it to end. I was given this arc and I voluntarily leave this review..
This is a really good romantic suspense novel. Detective Nicole Salway returns to her childhood home to help solve a murder case, but she is dealing with her own repressed memories and suffering from nightmares of something that happened to her eighteen years ago.
She is paired up with Detective Mason England, whom she feels an immediate attraction to. But she’s worked hard for a long time to be taken seriously as an independent female detective, so she tries to push those feelings aside.
It’s obvious that Mason feels the attraction too, but is wary of rocking the boat and ruining their case.
The murder is soon followed by another, meaning they have a serial killer on the loose. Plus, being so close to the scene of her childhood trauma starts to unravel things inside Nicole, as she starts to remember more of what happened.
The dual storylines are handled well, both interesting and told in a clear, concise fashion. The chemistry between Nicole and Mason is hot and the whole thing comes together very well. A really enjoyable read.
I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was completely blown away by this installment of the Dark Falls thriller series. I have always loved Becca Jameson's book, and this does not disappoint! Great characters, a suspense filled plot and storyline, and an amazing backstory for Detective Nicole Salway that leaves you shocked and heartbroken. I adored Detective Mason England; his personality, attitude and openness was a refreshing and welcoming twist to such a intense and frightening storyline. The chemistry between these two main characters is off the chart, and I found myself pinned to my Kindle, waiting to read the fate and possible future of their tentative feelings and hopes. There are no crazy red-herrings and bizarre twists that leave you frustrated; just a BDSM themed poice procedural and thriller that leaves you gasping for air at times, taking you on a wild and exciting ride to the very end!!
4.5 stars! I have just started to explore the genre of romantic suspense but I have already found a fantastic book! This story was such a joy to read, because it gave me everything I wanted and more: romance, mystery, action, suspense, passion and a detailed and realistic plot. I love romance and true crime novels but they get stale or emotionally draining. This book is the best of both worlds: romance and crime, yet it felt fresh and new.
The author throws the reader right into the story, into the romance and thrilling plot. I loved how the characters were so realistic and could have been anyone I know. I also loved their connection to each other and themselves. The plot was amazing and had me on the edge of my seat page after page. I won’t give anything away because the story is written in such a way that it needs to unfold for the reader. I loved this story and hope others will give it a chance.
WOW! Edge of my seat suspense! This is not a lighthearted romance. It is dark. There are a few murders and more.... well just more. I did read way past my bedtime as there was not a good stopping point in this book. Nicole has a secret and nightmares. She ends up right back in her home town to help solve a murder and her secret brings her nightmares to the point of... more. Mason has a temporary partner for this case, yeah not too happy about that either. Until he meets Nicole. Well heck, remaining professional just got hard. I loved the way these two work together to solve the case and also how they work toward their HEA. There was a high heat level between Nicole and Mason. There is no cliffhanger to this book, however to me it felt like there were some questions not answered.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I have been enjoying this multi author series and although I am not a huge fan of BDSM genre this had a decent plot beyond that. There are several mysteries going on at the same time in this book and they kept me interested and reading. The story starts with Nicole going to Dark Falls to help with a case that would require her to go to a BDSM club, with her new temporary partner, Mason. Nicole is actually from Dark Falls, but has not been back after her traumatic childhood. Other than the BDSM piece of the plot, I felt the resolution of the story was too quick and didn’t feel complete. That said, I really liked Mason and Nicole as a couple and felt they had off the charts chemistry. Just not as much of a fan of how things ended in the book. Maybe I just needed more!
I was reading some of the reviews on this series and I'm like, WHAT! Yes Becca Jameson can write about any genre. The big question was why didn't the reviewer mention Becca's The Wanderers series? My favorite, so far. This snuck up on me and jumped in my Library before I looked at the dates the books were written. These are earlier than The Wanderers. Oh my Becca. I have some catching up to do. Dark Falls is different. A true murder mystery with romantic interests that could scorch the wiring in my Kindle. The main characters were described as hubba hubba. But their experiences in the book were dark and scary. In the end, they came out on top. They beat their main adversary and left another lurking in the shadows. Nice touch Becca Until next time.
Absolutely A fantastic story . I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Dark Nightmares . I could not put this book down . This story is amazing . Nicole Salway a detective with a dark horrible past goes undercover with Dark Falls detective Mason England to solve a murder believed to be tied to a local club . The storyline is fabulous . The story keeps you on the edge of your seat . It's suspenseful and fast paced ,full of intrigue . The characters are great and the chemistry and relationship growing between Nicole and Mason is sizzling hot . I can honestly say one of my favorite stories . I'm looking forward to reading all of the Dark Falls series . I've read a few already an I've really enjoyed them . I highly recommend reading this story .
Nicole doesn't want this undercover assignment, she would rather be any where but back to Dark Falls the place she left after events changed her life forever. But she is back and needs to catch a killer before any more young girls die, the fact that she is partnered with a man that makes her body betray makes it a little bit better. Mason is intrigued by his new partner but knows she is hiding something and is determined to find out not realizing how bad her past might be. This is a great read about uncovering secrets, pasts that come back to haunt them, attraction that they fight and learning that its ok to let someone in. Thoroughly good read and will now go back and read the rest of the series as this is the first one I have read.
4.25 for this intense romantic suspense story. Detective Mason England experiences an immediate sexual attraction to his new temporary partner, Detective Nicole Salway. The feelings are mutual and it doesn’t help their situation when they must go undercover as a couple at a BDSM club as part of investigating a murder spree. The scene in the club is very sensual and written in a very arousing manner without being vulgar. This book has two unconnected storylines that will keep your interest peaked. One is the current case Nicole and Mason are working and the other is Nicole’s hidden past, that is the source of her bone-chilling nightmares. The author did an outstanding job with describing the of emotions of all the characters. I could feel the pure anguish of the people that lost their loved ones. I felt the despair Nicole experienced throughout her life. As well as, the growing feelings and sexual tension between the main characters.
When the body of the governor’s daughter is discovered, no time is wasted in assigning state Detective Nicole Salway to partner with Dark Falls Detective Mason England. While both detectives want the case resolved and uncomfortable with working with an unknown partner on such a high-profile case, neither is prepared to find the other so attractive or their exact type.
Its unsettling enough that Nicole has to work in Dark Falls, the home of her darkest secrets, ones she’s never shared with anyone. It also upsets Nicole that their best lead takes the pair undercover at a BDSM club that rachets their attraction to barely controllable lust. Nicole’s triggers are tripped until her secrets are revealed as bodies pile up and suspects are sparse. Rating: 4.25stars
Nicole is detective that goes under cover to get more information on cases. But there is a chunk of her memory that is missing and why her parents had moved from their home town 18 years ago. Now a high profile case is bring her back and to add to her problems she's attracted to her new partner. Mason needed the help of a woman officer to get information from a BDSM club about a case. He never expected to be dawn to her like no other woman. This dark but heartfelt story will keep you on your toes as you read, it has mystery, romance and is well written without being to dark. A great read for all.
This is one unique storyline with lots of heat and twists. 💞❤️️🔥💞
I really enjoyed this book's storyline and energy, right from the start. The main characters are Nicole and Mason, who are both police officers, but from different cities. Nicole has a past that is still haunting her and having to go back to "Dark Falls" is making her confront some of it... with Mason's help. This isn't your typical romance as it has some pretty dark themes, which should be implied by the title. But it's a really well-developed story that will just pull you in and make you root for both Nicole and Mason. 💕💗💕
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was an engaging and enjoyable story. I liked Mason and Nicole. As a couple they had excellent chemistry. Did I love it as much as some of the earlier ones in the series? Not quite. I almost feel like I want to say the pacing of the story is off kilter, but it does fit the genre: a long slow build to the peak with a frantic race to finish. The “a-hah!” moment wasn’t what I was expecting it to be so it kind of fizzled out for me. And that ‘race to the end’ left me feeling like their story isn’t actually finished yet. I have so many questions still. I’m hoping that future books in the series will be able to answer them.
By far my least favorite of this series. A series by multiple authors can introduce you to new ones. Based on this book, I am not interested in reading any more by Becca Jameson. There's no thriller here; the suspense is on par with a Hallmark movie. The romance is more 50 Shades of Grey meets standard erotica--BDSM, lots of crude language, and little character development.
I would have liked to get a better idea of Ariel in her normal state, and there was zero depth or growth for Mason.
It barely hit 2 stars for me. If I continue to think about it, I might downgrade it. Disliked it enough to take a break from the series and to hope she doesn't write another one here. It was simply, here are some characters and a location; do what you will. The connection to the series as a whole was minimal.
Although this is Book 3 in the Dark Falls series this is the only one that I've read, so my review is based on this as a stnadlone book. This is the story of Mason & Nicole & I found it to be a very engaging, well-paced, emotion filled read. The relationship between Mason & Nicole flowed really well & I loved how it flowed effortlessly. While Mason & Nicole's story was standalone & provided the HEA that I enjoy, I did feel that there was an overall storyline arc that went unanswered/unfinished. Perhaps this continues to flow through the rest of the Dark Falls books.
This author can suck you in and keep the pages turning. Nicole had lots of nightmares revolving around an incident that took place in Dark Falls when she was a child. Being sent back to work undercover to investigate a murder was not something she really wanted. Nicole was such a fantastic character who was a strong woman and was great to read about. Mason was the detective she was partnered with to go undercover. Lots of chemistry and plenty of steam! Some action and a great story all the way around! I loved it!! I am voluntarily reviewing an arc.
one of the top books out of the bunch so far!! the world building was there for the case, the characters were layered and it was shown so well
two cases in one also! and i personally had closure on the main case which i didn't really fully get from the other books. it's like they just dropped it after the main bad guy died.
but yes, one of the best ones but i didn't get much of the kilig vibes but more oh shit what's going to happen next vibes
one complain was the use of ellipses my god get the period button from this woman away from her HAHSHAHAH
This romantic suspense is easily one of the more intense books written by Becca Jameson. Mason England and Nicole Salway are detectives tasked with finding a murderer. But, a more emotionally charged secondary story plays out involving Nicole and her past. The level of intensity of the memories and feelings evoked by Nicole's return to her childhood home kept me enthralled. Couple that with Mason's immediate and visceral reaction to Nicole, you've got the makings of a great romance.
Two strong people willing to compromise for love of each other.
Story did a great job of showing strength and maturity of both main characters. In addition, both characters jobs are not for weak people but the author showed both could be strong and vulnerable.
The only complaint is the story wrapped up quickly. I'm assuming it will be picked up later in the series. Let's hope.
