Dark Falls #2

Dark Secrets

Rate this book
When Grace Lee storms into the Dark Falls Police Department, heads turn. But she only has eyes for Detective Nate Ryder—the officer who closed her brother Jimmy’s case too quickly, declaring his death a suicide rather than a murder. As a forensic scientist, Grace thinks the signs are obvious, the trick is convincing Nate.

Nate has to admit Grace’s argument makes a lot of sense, and he feels obligated to revisit the case. The problem is, while he’s following the old evidence, she’s collecting new samples—and putting herself in danger from the same organization that killed her brother. Jimmy was definitely onto something before he was murdered. Now, Nate has another worry: some of the new evidence Grace has found points back to members of the Dark Falls PD.

As strange coincidences turn deadly, Nate has to become Grace’s protector. They don’t know who they can trust and who they can’t. Will Grace and Nate be the next victims in a massive cover-up? Or can they figure out which cops are dirty fast enough to stay alive?

HOLES! That is why this book only got a 2.5-3 rating from me.

Grace Lee's brother Jimmy is dead, DFPD says it was a suicide, a drug OD. Grace believes Jinny wasn't using and was killed. She storms into the station and into the catching Detective Nate Ryder. As the two looking into the case the more Nate feels a pull to her and also the case is suspect and soon they believe someone in the ME office and the force are helping to hide the crime, looking into the case again leads to someone coming after Grace and the two go on the run while investigating.

I loved the idea, I like the concept but the is just to many huge holes in the story. He is a cop but yet can't find anyone but two people to trust. Also, doesn't he have any friends? Then we have the case, we never learn who helped in the cover up. There are other things that took away story from me. I think better plotting and closing of ideas would of completed this story and made me love it. Also I was a little put off with the "every time we have a second we have sex" I mean you are suppose to be fearing for your life, I get a time or two but it was like every spare second.

Good read

This was a good quick read with great suspense elements. The romance part was a little abrupt but ok. I would recommend.

Grace Lee's brother, Jimmy, has died in Dark Falls, CO, where he has lived happily with his boyfriend for years, and his death has been rule a suicide--by heroin overdose.

But former junkie Jimmy had been clean for just shy of five years, and Grace hadn't seen any of the signs she'd seen around his previous relapses into using. She just does not believe it. And Grace is a forensic scientist with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Even the death scene photo is wrong. Very, very wrong.

Nate Ryder is the Dark Falls police detective who closed the case based on the medical examiner's report and verbal confirmation from the medical examiner. At first he's just humoring Grace because, after all, it's her brother who died, but the more they look at the report, the tests that weren't done, the fact that her brother's body has already been cremated...

It starts to look very bad. And then bad things start to happen. Someone doesn't like the fact that they're poking around in this case at all.

This is the second book in the Dark Falls CO series, with each book by a different author. Based on this sample of two, it certainly looks like they really did their homework to make sure the were working from a consistent and well thought out background.

And as with the previous book, the characters are complex, interesting, and likable. Nate and Grace are both tough, intelligent, thoughtful people, in very different ways. When they find themselves on the run from killers, they're resourceful, and also open to each other's different strengths and knowledge. That doesn't mean all goes smoothly between them, but it does mean that when they do wind up in serious misunderstanding (gee, that's a suitably vague and unrevealing way to put it), it's because there's what looks like good evidence and they don't yet know each other well enough. They don't cling pigheadedly to the misunderstanding when counter-evidence emerges, or ever do stupid things just to keep the plot moving. Kade does too good a job of plotting to need that cheat.

Overall, it's a smart, interesting mystery with a lot of heart, and makes me really hopeful for the rest of the series.

Recommended.

I received a free electronic galley of this book, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

Dark Secrets- Dark Falls Series

This is another amazing book in this multi author series with this one centering around Det. Nate Ryder when he discovers one of his cases he was involved with was ruled an overdose which turned out to be a murder. The victim, Jimmy Lee was murdered and his sister, Grace Lee brought it to his attention as she is a forensic scientist working for Georgia's bureau and had brought him proof. This reopens the case and a chain of events that puts their lives in danger as they try to solve her brother Jimmy's murder and have to go on the run to save their own lives. Nate with the help from his partner Det.Zaragosa and several other detectives hide from the killers as they gather evidence to take these people down. In the meantime these two fall in love as they work together closely fighting off assassins that are out to kill them. This is a very romantic action packed story as they solve this case and get their happily ever after. I highly recommend this multi author series as they blended the characters seamlessly from one book to the next. I cannot wait to read the next exciting release and am introduced to new authors as well as some I am very familiar with. You will not be disappointed with this thrilling series.

4+* Review- Great addition to this series!

This is the second book in the series but due to the multi author aspect, you don’t really need to read them in order. In fact they really are standalone books, but I have been trying to read in order.
This is the story of Grace Lee who comes to Dark Falls to learn about the suspicious death of her brother. When she meets the detective that closed the case, she voices her concerns and begins her own investigation. Being a forensic expert from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, she can do much of the work herself, but teams up the detective, Nate.
The chemistry between the characters is great and the investigation was so in depth it made the story more realistic. There was a great deal of action and adventure to add to the mystery of Grace’s brother’s death. I really enjoyed Grace as a character, due to her intelligence and understanding as they investigated this case!

4.5 Stars for this captivating suspense book with a good balance of sexy time. The moment Nate Ryder meets Grace Lee he knows he is for a ride of his life with this very intelligent and strong woman. She certainly wasn’t the “Southern Bell” he was expecting. She is there to demand her brother’s suicide case be reopened for further investigation. Nate isn’t sure about the foul play angle until he and Grace discover missing evidence. Of course, Grace comes armed with her own evidence and that puts a huge target on their backs. They zigzag across Colorado to stay one step ahead of the villains. Unfortunately, it appears the murderer has an inside contact(s) from within the police department. This makes it hard to really trust anyone.
After reading this book, you will never be able to make a boxed chocolate cake without thinking of this story. It just may have you making pies instead!
I am so into this Series, that I am starting the next book immediately.

I begin to think this is going to be a hallmark of the series: the action kicks off immediately and I’m sucked into the intriguing world these authors have created. Grace is walking a fine line between forensic scientist and grieving family of the deceased. Nate’s caught somewhere in the middle of this conflict, trying to protect his professional reputation while solving the mystery Grace represents. There are also some brilliantly funny moments scattered throughout, keeping the emotional toll from getting too heavy. In fact, I’ve found a new pet phrase for everyone’s favorite discount department store: the Mart of Darkness. I will be treasuring that little gem for as long as I manage to remember it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Forensic scientist Grace Lee wasn’t satisfied with the speed or ruling Detective Nate Ryder made on her brother’s case, she’s convinced it was murder, not suicide and she’s determined to prove it. Nate’s plan is to listen to Grace in the name of professional courtesy for both her work and familial connection but the more he listens, Nate agrees the investigation looks shoddy in hindsight.

Grace discovers new evidence and Nate notes missing and incomplete paperwork as the pair unofficially re-work the case together. But they notice they’re being tracked and use unusually circuitous routes to get answers when Nate realizes how much danger they’re in as they try to stay two steps ahead of both sides of the law.

When Grace, came to the police station looking for Nate, he didn't know how much their lives would change. Grace, a forensic scientist, is looking into her brother's death, which is a case that Nate had closed. When Nate realizes that Grace may be in danger, he takes her on the run. I received a free copy of this book from another author in this series. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This book definitely can be enjoyed as a standalone and is very suspenseful.Nate and Grace quickly become involved and there are some steamy scenes. This was a good addition to the series that I enjoyed reading.

Dark Secrets

Dark Secrets is a fast pace story from beginning to end. Grace is the leading lady she is smart and beautiful. Nate is the leading male and a police officer with DFPD. Grace comes to DF to prove her brother was murdered and to catch his killer. Nate is the detective in charge of the case, when Grace starts pointing out the mistakes made on the case, Nate finds himself on the run with Grace trying to catch a killer. This story is intense and filled with angst. Kade had me on the edge of my seat, this is the first I have read a book by this author. I will definitely be checking her other stories. Happy Reading!!

4.5 stars 🌟 - Wonderful 2nd instalment in this new multi author series

This was a wonderful romantic thriller, with plenty of suspense, intrigue and tension. What starts as a sister trying to confirm that her brother didn’t die of an overdose, turns into a dark plot of criminal deception, police corruption, and a fight to solve the mystery before being discovered by those hunting them down.

A gripping tale with plenty of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I am always so intrigued by series where each installment is written by a different author, but they don't always work for me. I loved book 1 and am pleased that book 2 was just as enjoyable! This story absolutely stands alone. I liked Nate when we met him in book 1, and he has certainly found his match with Grace. They work well together, and I enjoyed their chemistry. The plot was interesting and kept me engaged. I was thrilled that this book was part of KU and hope the rest in the series are as well!

Great!

This was a very good mystery, thriller, and romance novel.

This book had it all. A smart, successful heroine, a true Prince Charming disguised as a police detective, and a wonderful cast of characters to help the main characters solve a murder. There was murder, drugs, sex (which was fast but great), a traitor, etc.

I was kind of sad when it ended, but the last chapter was very satisfying. Just wow!

Grace & Nate

Grace is a forensic scientist and Nate a Dark Falls PD detective. They meet when she confronts him with evidence that her brother's death was a homicide not suicide. He quickly realizes not only is she correct but that there's corruption in MEs office and the police department. They go on the run staying on step ahead of their enemy and gathering evidence. Along the way, they fall in love if they can stay alive to see where the relationship goes.

Excellent writing. It is not easy to write a book where your two main characters take up most of the space. I don't want to give anything away so I know that was vague, but when you read this fabulous book, you will understand. I did enjoy the forensic information and the great detail in the detective's thought process as to why he was doing or not doing something. Savannah Kade did her research and it showed in this book. Very enjoyable, entertaining and even educational.

Whodunnit.

I really liked Grace and Nate’s story. The plot was good, it flowed well and was fairly realistic. I also liked the suspense but I was a bit confused as to how Jimmy( Grace’s murdered brother) collected information that later got him killed, who else was involved and how they got it covered up. I’m really liking the Dark Falls series.

Great on-the-run romantic suspense with excellent forensic details and plenty of spice! Adored Grace, and Nate is her perfect match. I am loving the Dark Falls series and will be reading more! The shorter length novels are perfect for my busy schedule, and following a series like this is a good chance to get to know some new-to-me authors in romantic suspense.

Pleasant Read

The flow of the story was okay. Hoping that the series overall justifies the time. Enjoyed the story ; however, a little slow moving for me. Not sure why but it was easy for me to put down and not come back to for days. I am looking forward to finishing the series.

Aptly named

A closed case, a coverup and many questions. Not sure who to trust and finding a romance while dealing with the loss of a loved one..this hook is fast paced and full of intrigue. The writing captivated me and I enjoyed the characters individually and their chemistry with other characters. Great storyline and ending.

Good but fast

The story, or maybe the characters, moved very fast. Not a bad thing but made it a little hard to believe (but it is fiction, after all). The story was good though.
