A medieval themed launch party for local author Edward Townes is arranged at Astley Hall in Cherringham. Townes wasn’t much liked, a womaniser tending to drink too much and make a spectacle of himself. His book sales were on a steady decline.

The night of the party, Cherringham experiences an unprecedented snow storm. After arguing with several people Townes, already unsteady on his feet, left to make his stumbling way home. The following morning a body was found locked in the old stocks, covered in snow.

Murder…or a prank gone wrong. It was up to Jack and Sarah to find the truth before the suspects were able to leave the village.

A typically charming Cotswolds village on the banks of the River Thames is a perfect setting for these fun, easy to listen to shorts which, despite the number of pages (about 100), are well plotted, perfect cozy mysteries that, more often than not, are quite unpredictable.

This was all about the death of Edward Townes that Jack and Sarah were asked to look into. Was it murder or did the drunk mess around a kill himself accidentally.

Wow! The 32nd cozy mystery about Cherringham I’ve read/listened to and I’ve enjoyed every one of them.

No romance and no swearing. Just good clean mysteries.

As to the narration: If they ever found a new narrator, I would stop listening to them. Neil Dudgeon does such an incredible job.

Sadly a rather weak instalment.
Until now, these little tales have been getting better and better. But this one was bad from the outset, then heaped cliche on top of snowbound cliche.
I love a country house style murder but a good mystery tale never relies on a last minute, un-guessable revelation.
Hammy unrealistic scenario, 2D cast of characters and way too many unnecessary Americanisms littering the text. Even the title is lazy and unoriginal. One to miss.

Clean, short, cozy mystery. This is the 2nd book I've read from the Cherringham series. I prefer the other book Snow Blind more, but it was still an entertaining quick read.

Love these books and characters.

Nice clean and relaxing on my to and from work, love audible. Listened to all of them and the first is just as good as the last. Its like sitting with some good friends and having them tell you what they have been up to, just normal people living their lives and trying to do good and help people out with their talented. Will keep watching for new stories with two new characters i enjoy.

Another cozy, short and slow paced Cherringham book!
The characters , plot and scenery/surroundings are as always the focal point in the serie. The Sarah and Jack story runs like a red thread in the middle and is carefully being knitted throughout the books.

As I listen to audiobooks I must say the narrator here is as outstanding as he is in Midsomer Murder....thank you Neil Dudgeon!

Mystery of the Writer's Death

Once again Sarah and Jack are called in to help solve a death. Is it a suicide, a murder, a prank gone wrong? Sarah and Jack start out and before long have many questions to ask. They learn the man that is dead was not the nicest man and had quite a few enemies, but would someone want to kill him. Read this book and once enjoy a good mystery.

Edward Townes is having the launch party for his latest book in Cherringham. A night filled with a medieval theme and lots of London dignitaries. While they party, a chilling snow falls and they’re all trapped.

Good enough. I wonder if I have listen to too many Cherringham books back to back. They are well suited for listening to while making dinner or working in the garden, but I have listened to 32 of them in the past 8 months which probably put them too close together.

I love all of the Cherringham series. They are also good on audiobooks. Easy to read, no major plots and nice stories set in an English village.

Good Read

As always a good story with an interesting p!ot. Love the characters in all the stories, and Cherringham sounds like a small town I would love to visit.

Oberflächlich und teils abgedroschen, aber ein netter, unterhaltsamer Zeitvertreib.

Tässä sarjassa kyllä tarinoitten taso vaihtelee ja tämä oli vähän keskinkertaisempi.

Cute as always! I will say, after 30+ mini-books, if they're going to make something happen between Jack & Sarah, they need to just do it rather than the continued hinting. Getting a little old...
