After coming face to face with death, Elorion and company have found a dungeon to call their own. They’ve fought hard to earn a stint of peace, but Mistress Nava is still out there and her captain is now on the hunt. The impending arrival of the army of minotaurs will be the greatest threat they have faced thus far.
With their new-found freedom comes a myriad of additional dangers. They’re running low on food, the dungeon is in disrepair, and they must find new hunting grounds to continue growing in power. As their chosen leader, Elorion is faced with an impossible task. Will he weaponize their dungeon, develop his party’s strengths, or seek ancient power from the long-forgotten depths of the Underworld?
I really wanted to like this series as the authors other one Codename freedom is one of my favorites. The first underworld book wasn’t too bad and I didn’t mind the second.
That said the character interactions especially in this one have gotten annoying to me. The flirting is as weak as a fifth grader could manage and rather cringe. Additionally no matter how awkward these gamer kids are after experiencing this type of life I have to imagine their fear of normal romantic social interactions would improve. Looking at Travis and his awkwardness with being set up after requesting said set up in addition to Aeris and Elorions extremely cringe back and forth. I mean they’ve said I love you multiple times and have had one odd healing kiss for lack of a better term.
Well, I got to say that I forced myself a bit in this one. I skipped over half of this book because it just wasn't as interesting as the first two. And to be honest, I cringed at the relationship between the mc, and his love interest. I felt that he was trying way to hard. Darn near everyone was trying to pair up. A bit annoying. I keep telling myself that these people were teenagers, so their hormones are all over the place. Combined with the stress of life a death fights constantly looming. But their maturity left much to be desired. I honestly don't know if I want to continue this series.
Had to come all the way over here to leave a review. Apparently Amazon doesn't seem to think a review is worthy if you happen to be friends on Facebook. Well, I don't idolize authors. I idolize well written books. And, this one is. It's why I gave it 5 stars.
If you're new to LitRPG or GameLit, this is one of the book and series to check out. Thorne is not a waste of your time. He writes well, carries the plot and transitions. I love sci-fi fantasy. Thorne does a good job here.
this book is literally the best book I have EVER read. While its disheartening that I've finished it, I'll egarly await the new addition. please keep doing what you're doing apollo
Another masterpiece, with stellar dungeon building and fights
I love the new spins this story took. I couldn't believe the trial that they had to go through just to get to the point they are at now. I didn't expect them to be so damn awesome and able to be so likeable.
I dont want to spoil much because the book is just to amazing but Elorion and Aeris are definitely starting to heat things up lol. The interaction between everyone is so much fun to see and how the team slowly comes together before the battle man....
I definitely, without a doubt recommend reading this book this second because damn... it's worth every penny being as stellar as it is.
The smasher bros, those guys and Russ just had me dying in this story, the character development took on a whole new level of awesomeness with each person. Apollos did a stellar job by fleshing out everyone and making them come to life even more in this story.
There were many twist and turns in the that I didn't see coming at all, and it was just wow.
Enjoyed this latest underworld book. I like the progression of the group as is seems to survive underworld. The dedication (grinding) is admirable and totally required as the group is way behind. The creative use of magic is the best part. By pushing the magic he is pushing himself and the others by example. Never did like a static magic system, and this one of far from it. Can't want to see what new tricks the group find to help them survive against the more powerful denizens
I've read a lot of LitRPGs and have been a fan of fantasy for more than 20 years now. I am a huge fan of magic systems both in games and books. And the one created in this system has a lot of good things to it. Every characters skills are unique, along with great personalities to the characters. If your a fan of litrpg or just fantasy in general I would recommend this series, its not the absolute best in the genre but it is high up on my list. Can't wait to read the next one!
I am very happy with the this book. It doesn't have any cursing nor does it have any scenes of sex. The author is to be applauded.
It was a very exciting and enjoyable read that kept me wanting to read more and more. Even though this is the biggest book yet in the series it was over all too soon. I want to jump up and down and say more more I want more!
Just like the rest of the series it leaves me wanting more. I really don't have anything bad I can say about it other than some small things that I would change but really aren't worth mentioning. I seriously almost missed an appointment because I couldn't put the book down.
Once again character development is apparent beyond just adding stats or say so. We continue to see Elorion gain 'wisdom' the lich discussed. We see logical thought out base building, talking to people, an attempt to over come his isolationist tendencies. Can't wait to see what's in store next.... Release date? ;)
I couldnt put this down and read it all night, finished about 30 minutes before my alarm went off. Great book, fun new abilities and tactics. Your books continue to entertain and keep me interested. Im not very eloquent so I'll leave it at that. I look forward to your next book and other series
Great continuation of the series. Great mix/balance of dungeon building and fighting. Seemed like a transitional book, but it was expected. Hope others enjoy this series as much as I do.
Yet another great book in the underworld series every time I read one of these books it makes me wants more the mc is OP..... but so is everything else some even more so great action, in-depth stat and progression an a touch of romance.
I started this book immediately after finishing the last books and all I can say is this books is 100x better then the last book, which I didn’t think was possible!
If you don't mind an overly 'humble' MC to the point of servitude then its a good read
I tried... I really tried to ignore the dynamic between the main character (Elorian) and other characters in his group (especially Aeris). I tried to focus on the story - even pushed to book 3.But it became too frustrating for me. Maybe I am the wrong target age...
But to give spoiler free examples of how the MC is treated I will flip the common occurrences throughout the whole series, but this time make it Elorian doing it to Aeris:
Despite being a lower level than her (and he risks his life a lot less than she does for the groups benefit), he insist on standing on her head as the main mode of transport. Literally stands on her head when they travel... despite the fact he can literally fly!
She feels the need to change into a wolf/puppy so he can ride her just to make her happy - again despite her being stronger and risking his life constantly for the group
Despite the group choosing her as the leader, he constantly and publicly interrupts her and countermands her instructions/opinions. As well as making her feel inferior to him intelligence wise
Oh and not once does he simply say thank you to her for constantly risking her life to keep them alive, instead he tells her how stupid she is and how he is lucky to have her there to help him
This just doesn't sound like a MC progression story I can enjoy (doesn't matter if it is happen from a male to a female or vice versa) so I have decided to stop hallway through book 3 and re-read Will Wrights Cradle series instead:-)
Another fun, entertaining installment in the series. Tons of action in this book and a decent amount of city/town building as well. If you've read and liked the first two, y0u'll like this one as well.
One minor gripe (and minor spoilers): there's an entire chapter in this book devoted to figuring out how to handle bathroom needs. Which, fine - that's a facet of life we all have to deal with. But what makes it stand out (in a weird way) is the fact that a) there's almost no mention of bathroom needs in the first two books. In fact, beyond a "Magic toilet paper spell", there's no acknowledgement that the characters even use the bathroom. And then, b) there's no mention of bathroom needs after the chapter. It feels very odd and out of place. The author could have eliminated that entire section and it wouldn't have impacted the rest of the book in the slightest.
Still, I want to emphasize that the overall book is an enjoyable read - you should pick it up if you enjoyed the first two. Looking forward to the next installment!
it was decent but not as good as the previous books in the series.
I'm starting to dislike most of the female characters. I don't know why being bitchy is so popular nowadays with writers when they write them. And they make them act like they can do no wrong.
During the Incubus fight I thought that the MC had had enough of it, but nope. He decided to ignore it after the fight was finished.
Also, the whole farming thing took too long and was pointless in the end.
I still liked the fighting and the RPG mechanics, but the numbers are getting ridiculous and are getting meaningless.
I'll still read the next one in the series, but I hope that it will be a lot more interesting.
Sometimes authors suffer from tunnel vision. This author writes about the players lack of food and lack of infrastructure in the Sanctuary (reclaimed Dungeon). The problem is that if the players defeated the Mistress at the end of the second volume, then why didn't they conquer her Dungeon?? Why stay in a low level, without any infrastructure dungeon if the dungeon they fled from had everything already? Although it has been about a month since they were abducted from their original world to the Underworld, author hasn't really thought about or mentioned the Huge Pink Elephant in the room: Why don't they try to go back to Earth, instead of making a dungeon home in the Underworld? What is keeping them there after they have already "dealt" with their abductor? This third volume in the Underworld series deals with creating bathrooms, baths, kitchens, dormitories and beds. The players need to find food as well. In the meantime they are trying to gain power, new abilities and strengths. Players need to create distribution centers and suppliers so as to be able to grow without problems and at the same time, beware of bigger enemies, Demon Lords, Monster Hordes, that can randomly find them in the Sanctuary Dungeon. Since Goodreads erases 70% of this review then they can have it unfinished..Shove it Goodreads...
If you read this book, bring a calculator with you. This author loves to throw mathmatical equations everywhere. If he is trying to impress his reader with all the math, it is destroyed by his use of "ahold", "anyways", and "literally" nonstop throughout the book.
That all said, this book is falling into the same trap that the Emerillia series fell into. The author has the characters shooting up so many levels so fast and tries to keep up the bad guy's levels, it has become silly. Levels really don't mean much when you gain 30 at a time. Pretty soon the author is going to be using the phrase more and more because the levels and numbers are rediculous.
Mistakes: I only found one in the entire book. Plot: to me this was mostly a base buildings and stat training book. A lot is left needing to be done to build up the base. I've still got questions about how everyone is able to beat enemies so many levels above them. This needs to be explained very clearly at some point. Characters: The MC is still overpowered by my thinking, but it is due to his blue skill. I do like the interaction between all the characters. Keeps the book from becoming a training drag. 8/10
Good book but for the next one I want more story progress
This book was pretty good, for the most part it was all about settlement building and power leveling. Which isn’t a bad thing as the creativity for power use by the characters is great. On a whole though I would like to see the story and the groups interaction with other underworld denizens progress more. So to end the review, in my opinion it was great but the next book would benefit from more world building.
a good follow on book, hopefully there will be more and more frequently released, i'm impatient about these things... (one of my many failings)
seriosuly though if its your type of storyline then read it chances are you wont be disappointed, its well paced and has a good progression it doesnt seem to stagnate anywhere (although if you havent already you should probably read the first two books first)
