With the advent of civilization, ambitions began to take shape in the mind of the human community which paved the way for desire amongst the people to know about important future events of their lives. When scholars noticed sequences and rhythms in the attained astronomical information, this field got a scientific perspective which led to the formation of new rules. The principles of Astrology also began to advance gradually with significant help from astronomers and mathematicians. When such rules were seen in association with geographical and natural events, patterns were found and the prediction of occurrence of future events began. The main objective behind the tireless efforts of scholars and sages was the community servive. In those times, the sources of livelihood were completely agrarian in nature and totally dependent on weather, rain etc. and the predictions of any kind of natural calamity gave them time for preparation. It is assumed that after successful application of astrological rules in the field of Mundane matters, an interest in making predictions about individuals must have developed. It would be appropriate to say that Vedic Astrology originated from the Vedas, progressed in Puranas and the sages gave them direction. The intensive work, calm mind and tireless work of sages is giving benefits till date in the form of scriptures. The development in this field slowed down as India remained under foreign rule for hundreds of years and it is said that many of the valuable scriptures were destroyed. However, we can sense the feeling of community service in sages from the remaining scriptures. For the last few years, there has been an exciting change in the field of astrology. Firstly, the educated class has started to take interest in this area and as a result original research started to revive. Secondly, computerization is helping save time in doing complex calculations. This book has been divided into 10 chapters. The First Chapter describes the vedic and astronomical views of universe creation. In addition to this, the time period of renowned writers and their treatises has also been described. This will help readers to understand the progress of astrology and to know more about the scholars who contributed to this field. The Second Chapter deals with the introduction of zodiac along with the main principles of astronomy. The procedure of calculating the longitudes of the planets and related definitions have been described in a simple way with the help of diagrams. In addition to it, the Sayana-Nirayana systems and Geocentric-Suncentric systems have also been explained in a simple way. In the Third Chapter, a detailed explanation of important celestial bodies and their astrological influence on the human life/events have been predominantly discussed. The detailed explanation of eclipses, seasons, etc. have been given in this chapter. In this chapter, the updated information about the celestial bodies has also been incorporated. The Fourth Chapter is devoted to the interpretation of various components of the Time. It contains explanation of the prevailing segments of Time as well as details of almost all the prevailing Standard Time Zones. Various types of years, months and days etc. have also been described in this chapter. The Fifth Chapter describes the calculation of all the five components of Panchanga.
