I received an ARC from the author (thank you!)

This installment of the Starside Saga was just as enjoyable as the previous books. I think it was a little darker than the other stories, with a lot more violence and bloody conflict. But that makes sense as the world of the characters is becoming more chaotic. The reader is led to ponder if good really will prevail over evil.

I am always fond of Kila, but I also enjoyed Henley's role in this book. He is becoming so comfortable with his powers, while Kila still struggles to control her own. The introduction of the Revulsion is interesting, and I wonder if Kila will eventually be able to use it for good. And of course, the cats are there to chime in with their own cutting remarks, which is always good for comic relief when things get too dark.

As Book 7 draws to a close with the birth of the infant Kil, many things are left open-ended, and I am already looking forward to Book 8.

I have been addictively reading Eric Kent Edstrom’s Starside Saga series ever since it’s first book. Somehow the author MagSafe’s to keep the books totally exciting, imaginative and fresh despite how how far the series had run. That’s certainly the case with Fortress of Shadow (Book 7). Things are coming to a head for Kila Sigh in this penultimate volume. The former thief girl of Starside will end up having to chose between “light, darkness, or utter annihilation” in a tale full of action, and adventure, plots and betrayal. Exciting stuff and perfectly told, this book can be read as a standalone but you’re vastly better off starting with book 1 and reading firearm from there. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book, which will be the finale of the series.

Can not wait!

I love this saga! I love all the characters, except the Harthgote. Even Flaumishtak and Tooth. Crazy good storytelling! Lila is such a gritty, worldly wise but somehow innocent heroine. I just want to read more.

This book is a wonder! Where oh where does Mr Edstrom get his inspiration? For it must be inspiration to write such a series filled with such wonder! Never have I read a series such as this. So much happens in this book of wonders that defies the imagination. The evil that threatens is bone chilling. Kila can hardly sense who is friend and who is foe if not for the sensitivity of the cats. And Mr Edstrom must know cat’s behavior well as he often comments on the ones in this book with humorous wit to make one smile even in dire circumstances. Some people love Kila and some fear her. Others want to bring her down and others want to lift her up as a god. Henley just wants to be with her. This is a rather long book with so many twists and turns to it it will keep your head spinning. A fantastic battle between the nosg and shadline was intense. And many other intense battles as a precursor to what is insinuated as the eventual takeover of the world by Yiothizandra’s baby, the god Kil. And the dragons! Dark dragons and light dragons and the lesser Wyvoks who obey the dragons. So many weird names I can’t even venture to pronounce. Where does Mr Edstrom find them all? And then there is the surprise ending. Maybe not an ending but a very BIG surprise! This is a great series you won’t want to miss. Highly recommended.

This is book seven of Starside Saga at the end of book 6 Kila was wondering how she was to bring forth Kil-the god of war, hatred, and darkness. What Kila goes through with her friends is so intense. I will be honest this is the first book of the series I have read and I thank the author for having put a synopsis for the saga on his website. I love the writing and yes at times I was a bit confused but in the end, I understood what was happening at it was a very interesting twist. This an unbelievable book and I am going to start reading Thief of Sparks tonight. I have a feeling the whole series is going to be fantastic. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Eric has gone and done it again, driving us readers crazy with good vs evil, or is it evil vs good? The storyline is awesome, with all the twists and fantasy that will keep you rivited until you finish. You will become one with the story.

This is my 2nd reading of the series. I can be very assured that I will read it for a 3rd time in another couple years. That thought brings me eagerness for the passing of time. It's such a wonderful series that it will prove timeless. Enjoy!
