Sometimes adults though young adults' eyes aren't really adults. It's ironic that we stumble just as they do and sometimes more than them too.

After arriving in Tokyo to live with her uncle, Suzume collapses in a nearby park where she had once seen a shooting star during the day. A handsome stranger brings her to her new home and tells her they’ll meet again. Suzume starts her first day at her new high school sitting next to a boy who blushes furiously at her touch. And her homeroom teacher is none other than the handsome stranger!

I like that Suzume took action once she realized Mr. Shishio has heard her accidental confession. Of course, she moped about it first, but I was happy it wasn’t dragged out. She went for it even knowing the end result. It was cute how she put her hair up in a ponytail to strengthen herself.

Mamura also goes for it in this volume. I really appreciated that when he had the opportunity to talk to Suzume and spend time with her he took it. He is the one that’s her age! Yuyuka makes a realization of her own after Suzume hurts her keeping secrets. I love these awkward friendships that are a little different from what we normally see in shoujo manga.

We get a lot of history about Mr. Shishio and his ex. It makes me think they are opening him up emotionally to be with Suzume and it freaks me out. It’s sooooooo unethical as a teacher. I’m not sure what he could see in Suzume anyway. This is not a deep girl. The whole rehash of the past is just so adult for a high school manga.

Daytime Shooting Star vol 3 goes deep into a taboo teacher student relationship. If you are enchanted by the idea of a forbidden relationship then you need to read Suzume’s story!

Better than the previous volume, but this is just so SO dramatic and angsty and not in a way I necessarily enjoy. I like the characters though

Suzume confessed! I'm so proud of her! Even though she knew that there is a great possibility that Shishio will reject her. (Because of their status, age gap and the presumtion that he is still loves his ex.)

Mamura is the guy that has been liking Suzume since the first time he met her. Suzume's personality and her persistence to be friends with him has win him over. But you know, feelings are always hard to predict and this was not a an ideal time for Mamura to confess, since Suzume is still hung on Shishio. OH GOD! This is so hard! It's complicated!

This was my favorite quote:
"I have seen shooting stars in broad daylight when I was younger. Sensei is just like those shooting stars. They make me cry happy tears and make me want to catch up to get them. They flicker and and I get dizzy and my heart flutters. They're the things that easily shake my world."

Suzume let slip something she shouldn’t have that maybe her teacher didn’t hear? Maybe? Well, surely that won’t harm her friendships with Yuyuka and Mamura, right? Not to worry - a fireworks festival looms large and that always fixes things... right!?

There’s something special about a book that knows how to happily stomp on your emotions and let you be gently reminded just how incredibly tortured adolescence can get. Daytime Shooting Star is such a book, offering a mature take on immaturity.

Make no mistake, the core tenet of this book is its insane relationship chart and how messy it is for everybody concerned and how almost half of them should know better. The way it handles this mess, however, is like a breath of fresh air.

Suzume is a belter of a heroine - she’s got very, very bad puppy love, but she’s not one to wait or just pine away. She acts and, when things play out as they do, she reacts in a way that smartly protects her heart from getting hurt. To say nothing of how she refuses to string Mamura along (this might be the most fraught fireworks festival I’ve ever seen in a manga, but it’s soooo juicy).

She doesn’t get everything right - her handling of Yuyuka is kind of not great in a way friends shouldn’t be, but Suzume’s strength is in doing things, not necessarily thinking them through or considering the input of others. She has the impetuousness of youth, not to be trite.

The fact that I care about Shishio at all, given the position he’s in and the ‘not firm enough’ of his rejecting Suzume is a testament to the storytelling. There’s a lot of backstory to him that really fleshes him out into more than just ‘hot teacher’ and I think it was smart to make him a bit more believable, even if he’s still making some questionable choices.

Then there’s Tsubomi, Shishio’s ex, who, phew... she’s definitely a character. An interesting free spirit, she’s quite the handful and kind of immature herself. That’s the only reason I can think of for the miserable way she eggs on the drama unfolding before her. She’s actually the closest this series come to a true villain and she’s not even mean, per se, just cavalier to a literal fault.

4 stars. This book really digs into the mire that everybody’s stuck in and makes it into something great. It’s not content to just rehash a bunch of the expected story tropes, instead adapting them to explore its characters in unique and refreshing ways. This is such a solid series so far and one of my go-to reads when I need something I know I’ll enjoy.

I can't rate this series enough. This volume was amazing. Suzume heartbreak and running away from Satsuki at the festival made me cry. Not many manga get that amount of emotion out of me. I can see this going up there with Nana, Paradise Kiss and Flowers of Evil as my all time favourite series.

Hmmm. Many things going on at this point in the plot, and I’m happy we...got rid of...one of the plot points 🤣🤣 I hated the “rival” angle. It always bothers me no matter the storyline. BUT this story is very promising, and I cannot wait to read MORE MORE MORE!

2022 review
I think Yosano's still adorable, but it's obvious she's still just a child. From one angle, her being from the countryside adds to her innocence while her age gives her this delicate youth. She's in a point of constant change and falling in love with someone who's ultimately unobtainable is a huge point of growth. In a short period of time, she must navigate a lot of emotions.

In all though, I don't think I can enjoy this series as much as I could when I was younger, purely because I'm not possessed by my under-developed brain. Actually being aware that teacher-student relationships aren't slice of life/taboo/cutting-edge, "wow, emotions!", but instead they're just gross makes this series hard to read.

The love interest is cute and he's a good love interest, yes. But for someone his own age.

2018 review
All the romances are pretty cute, but they still have so much room for growth and development so I'm excited/nervous to see where things go from here. I really like Yosano though, she is so adorable.

So, the cliffhanger I mentioned... Usually, there's slow burn in these stories, but above everything to get a character to confess is like pulling teeth!!

Once again, most things get resolved very quickly. The things that were inserted into the story supposedly for drama effects? Not very dramatic when it isn't explored properly so the readers might care about the undecision, the angst.

Also, I could not care less, I just want our 15yo mc to get over her 24yo teacher so I can stop being uncomfortable. Please

At the end there was a short the author did for their magazine, Second Kiss, and of course it was about an elicit relationship between a high schooler and a teacher. Genders reversed

Yup. Another one of the best manga for me.
I like suzume-chan. Her characters is naive, innocent and funny haha. I fall in love w Satsuki-sensei and mamura as well. So, I don't really care who suzume will choose in the end. Im satisfied w the plot. haha and i'm impressive with Mika Yamamori, not just she write the good storyline plus it have a lot of funny element in it,but she drew the characters so beautiful and handsomely. kyaaahhhh >_< no wonder i fall in love w sensei and mamura lol.
Definitely will looking forward for other manga that written by Mika Yamamori.

For the moment I loved this one the most.
The characters had more depth and they took the time to explain their feelings.
This one was also sadder than the first two, because it was about heartbreak, but it was done really well.

I really liked everyone’s reactions in this one - they seemed really real. But also the angst is killing me like ugh the drama.
