All-new adventures featuring the beloved characters of the hit Nintendo video game!
The Turf Wars have started in Inkopolis, and the team that inks the most ground will be crowned the winner! Based on the hit Nintendo games!
Deep inside an underground facility connected to the Deepsea Metro subway system, Goggles and Team Blue must pass a series of tests to discover the four “thangs” that will open the door to a fabled Promised Land.
Holy crap! That was an intense story! The Octo Expansion of Splatoon 2 was depicted very well in this book. Bummed that the story left off at a freaking cliffhanger... It makes me want to read the next one as soon as possible!
Octo Expansion is my absolute favorite thing about the Splatoon series, and I feel like it was done justice enough for being a Coroika. It had the typical “Goggles follows everyone around in every singleplayer ever because he’s the main character” but that was fine because we got some Rider in there too, although having the entirety of Team Blue there was a choice. I quite like Hachi, he feels enough like base game 8 so that he can acceptably be called Agent 8. I like how they strayed away from copy-pasting the canon 8 design like they did for Gloves.
A volume that's just marginally less silly and a little more story-focused than previous ones have been as it adapts Octo Expansion, one of the more story heavy parts of Splatoon as a game series.
Of course, when I say "marginally" I really do mean marginally, because silly gags involving things like jars of pickled plums, impromptu rice ball creation and the endless pulling down of different characters trousers still abound, as you'd expect after reading books one to six, but new character Eight is played surprisingly pretty straight throughout and serves as a good foil to Goggles' usual ridiculous antics. And rest assured there are plenty of those antics! Ending up on top of a Baller and accidentally ending up airborne during some mysterious challenges were some highlights there.
The gradual reuniting of Team Blue throughout the volume provides a good structure to the story, too, and gives us a chapter where Headphones really gets to shine, as well, which was very nice as we get to see her in her own light rather than just as the backup to Specs as a kind of secondary straightwoman to the cast. Maybe we'll get some more from Bobble Hat in the future, as well! She does get one of the funniest lines in the whole book in "Here comes Specs! There goes Specs!" when he first appears and promptly vanishes again, at least.
The bonus chapter at the end with all the different specs is just funny, as well, on top of the genuinely interesting story of the Deepsea Metro, so there's plenty to enjoy here for anyone who liked the previous volumes. Maybe a little more than in those ones, even!
Finally I have read the last English translated Splatoon book, and man was it a good book. This consists of the main character Goggles and his team (Specs, Headphones, and Bobble Hat) to regain the memory of a new character who has lost his memory. The new character's name who has lost their memories is Eight, but then he gets sudden flashbacks of his friend who's been kidnapped and now it's up to Team Blue (Goggle's and his team) and Eight to adventure out and find Eight's kidnapped friend through adventuring out in the deep sea metro, and to go through a series of tests. While yes I did like this book, a lot, it just didn't have the same charm as the others. It kind of felt just there for the sake of being there, I would've preferred another tournament but this is still a good book, and gets a hardy 4/5 on the Ali rating scale.
But the true worst part about this book is... THEY LEFT IT ON A CLIFFHANGER AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT TILL JANUARY 14TH, 2020 TO READ VOLUME 8 IN ENGLISH, AHHHHHHHHHH.
first off i think this was the perfect way to work the octo expansion in to the story of the books and how the 4 thangs still needed to be collected and just the fact that the phone was still there. now personally i would recommend this book to people with a goofy personality because because they might relate to some of the charterers in this book.
so as for the summary of the book well goggles ends up falling down a strange hole after getting separated from his friends and finds captain cuttlefish and a....OCTOLING!? well goggles seems to sense that he is friendly and decides to and so the three of them set off for home or as a suspicious phone calls it the PROMISED LAND....
i hope that did not give away to much for those who have not played through the octo expasion in splatoon 2 if it did then i am sorry.
but that was my summary so i hope this intrigues you and makes you want to chack out the book/manga and i hope you all have a wonderful day :]
Mmm this book was good. I’m liking how the story is going so far and I’m excited to read the next volume.
Now as I’m starting to read this series again I’ve come to enjoy the art style and how the characters look!! It’s super cool to see and honestly motivated me to draw, will I though? No, anyway.
Daniel really liked this book b/c he likes playing the games Splatoons (first on the wii U and then on the Nintendo Switch). He read this book in an hour or two. It's a comic style book. He's requesting to read the whole series. I'm glad he likes reading so much!
As my favorite book of the series so far because this person added the dlc from Splatoon 2 which is amazing. It is funny that in the first part of the book the main character thinks that some people are sick.
