I mean... I wasn't necessarily expecting quality from the cover, and I really liked the art style (which is the only reason this doesn't have 1 star) but the actual story details are incredibly problematic. One pretty much kidnaps the other when he finds him passed out drunk, rapes him, and for some reason they fall in love? And then the only defining character arc of the abductor is how he was sexually assaulted as a child? That's a Huge Yikes, y'all! Please keep this in mind before deciding to read. Nice art, awful characters and plot.

It's mostly smut but it's HOT STEAMy smut. The art is beautiful and the characters even more so. Mentions of rape and incest. Not sure what to call what happened with the MC and the old man (was it rape, noncon, or what?)

Does end up with a cute ending :)

This is my first Yakuza based yaoi so I wasn't prepared for some of the darker elements of the story. The plot was decent, but I did wonder what Nozomi would have done had Tatsuyuki not come to Fukuoka when he did. He did say he planned on eventually going back to Tokyo to find him someday but by this time they were already adults living separate lives and there wasn't any guarantee Tatsuyuki would have been single or even interested in men. Everything about their reunion, including Nozomi finding him passed out on some random bench late at night, felt a little too coincidental.

Still, I used to be an avid reader of fan fiction, so I'm quite capable of looking past such things and enjoying the story as its told. I just wish I knew more about what happened between Tatsuyuki's father and Rogi and, to a lesser extent, what happened between Tatsuyuki and that masseur he was in love with. Is that the Dr. Minori he kept mentioning?

The unconventional dynamic between the seme (Nozomi) and the uke (Tatsuyuki) was interesting. It isn't that I haven't seen softer semes before, it was their roles along with the circumstances of their upbringing that surprised me. You'd think Tatsuyuki would be the seme and Nozomi the uke but I was happy with the way it was. It made their lovemaking scenes that much more fascinating.

This story contains intense childhood trauma and lots of noncon and dubcon. It's also pretty damn explicit. I haven't decided whether or not I like stories centering around the Yakuza trope but I've got the three available volumes of Jealousy as well as a few stories from other mangakas sitting on my shelf and I'm excited to find out.

UPDATE: I was thumbing through the first volume of Jealousy and realized that the series focuses on a younger Rogi and his dealings with Tatsuyuki's father, Akitora. If I'd have known that I would've read those first... oh well.

El erotismo de Beriko me encanta, creo que es una de las mangakas que mejor lo refleja en sus obras, y es por eso por lo que le doy 4 estrellas, porque la historia es bastante extraña y un poco sin pies ni cabeza, para qué nos vamos a engañar xD
El uke y el seme son diferentes a lo usual, cosa que agradezco, y es por ellos, por cómo se miran y se entienden, por lo que he sido capaz de leer sin importarme todo lo demás.
Si queréis conocer la obra de Beriko, no es la mejor para empezar.

I've been rereading all of Scarlet Beriko's manga. Tatsuyuki Oyamato the 4th is by far the most messed up, even more so than its prequel Jealousy. I completely understand if this isn't someone's cup of tea. Like Jackass, the problem with this oneshot is that it's doing too much at once. It makes sense for Scarlet Beriko to do a five volumes long prequel series after wrapping this up, as she has invented so much backstory for the characters that it'd be a waste not to do more with it. However, I don't know if this amount of lore is really necessary here. The more I think about it, the more I'm certain that this manga is a ploy to pique the reader's interest in the serialization for the Uichi prequel, which rightfully so as it is a more compelling story. Still, I wish more energy went into developing Tatsuyuki and Nozomi's relationship. There's something interesting going on in there, but it never got a chance to grow. On top of that, I was put off by the insane pacing and notable amount of plot holes. Definitely not for the faint of heart. I don't know who I would recommend this to, unless you're super into yakuza BL or enjoyed Jealousy and want more in the same universe.

Honestly hilarious I rated this so lowly the first time considering this universe(?) has become one of my fave yakuza stories. Jealousy really sparked something in me. I will say this works better with the context of Jealousy especially in understanding why Rogi does what he does. I've grown to love Rogi's messy behavior and seeing him in this volume makes me feel a little sad for him. So I understand how Tatsuyuki can forgive him despite all the shit he did to him. As for Tatsuyuki and Nozomi they're an absolute MESS, but they're cuties. Nozomi especially what a clown, but so adorable!! I need to read their little sequel bonus stories thing so I can get more of them.

I've seriously grown as a reader and person since then because now I don't mind excessive sex scenes and I'm not as concerned with the problematic content. I think I was still recovering from my Catholic school sex=bad mentality and I was extremely worried about what people would think if I enjoyed problematic sex-filled content. Plus this was I think my first non wholesome BL when I started reading BL again and one of the first if not the first smutty bls I reviewed. I wish I could find some of the BL I read as a kid, but a lot of it was really bad from what I remember. Or maybe I just felt that way because same sex relationships felt naughty to me in general. Lmfao it's weird how you can reject those teachings, but still have the residual feeling like you're doing something bad. Luckily I've since grown out of that now I'm more concerned that I've gone too far in the opposite direction LOL. Anyway I feel like admitting my love for MADK and Killing Stalking and becoming a discord degenerate has helped me come out of my shell A TON. It's nice to see my progress I guess? Idk weird personal thoughts.

All things considered this isn't the worst yaoi ever, but it's definitely pretty problematic. It was mostly sex and I feel like this could've been cute if it was more focused on the story than the sex scenes, but whatever I guess. Disappointed, but not surprised.

This was fine. The art is good, the story is...a little out there, there's a lot of problematic stuff, there's lots of steaminess. I enjoyed it enough!

There's one particular panel in which a character stretches out his leg and braces his foot on the bottom of a panel below him, and I LOVE that. It's so subtly creative. Perhaps breaking the 4th wall a bit, but I'm okay with that. :)

Toooo many smexy scenes!! sigh. Bukannya aku ga suka porn ya, ga muna jadi orang, cuma ga sesuai ekspektasi saja buku yg satu ini. Melihat ratingnya yg tinggiiii bgt di mana-mana, sampe cuma ngekor tepat di bawah manga lain yg jauuuhhhh lebih berbobot : Hana wa Saku ka vol 4. Digauli sepanjang hari selama beberapa hari dan tdk ada sedikit amarah pun, cuma karena dia yakuza? I know I know, banyak memang yaoi manga yg dub-con dan non-con isinya, tapi dub-con di sini dibalut dlm bentuk cheating itu bener2 bikin bete.

Kalo dijadikan gini kan seakan-akan cuma jadi alasan buat bikin adegan seks sebanyak-banyaknya karena well, porn book itu lebih menjual. Fakta.

Aku fans dark angst juga, baca byk yaoi manga yg sadis2 juga isinya, tapi sori yg satu ini tdk se-amazing yg seperti kurasakan saat baca dark angst lainnya yg juga byk porn juga di dlmnya : Kaori no Keishou/The Inheritance of Aroma, mungkin krn banyak bagian yg 'maksa' tadi, I mean, tembak saja dari awal, napa si uke setuju lacurkan diri cuma supaya si pemerkosa bisa get attention dari papa si uke yg rupanya jadi obsesi si pemerkosa.

Me ha encantado. Beriko dibuja MUY bien. No le importa arremangarse y meterse en lo turbio para presentar un bottom fuera de los cánones clichés y usar toda esa violencia como vehículo para contar la historia romántica entre los protagonistas.

Facciamo un gioco: fatevi un cicchetto ogni volta che in questo manga inciampate in un trope del BL di altri tempi. Yakuza? Check. Protagonista dal cuore spezzato per una cotta non corrisposta per un altro uomo? Check. Personaggio con passato di abusi familiari? Check. Prima volta non consensuale? Check. Terzo incomodo infame e predatore? Check. (è la rodata formula del "iss, ess e 'o malament" in salsa yaoi) Personaggi queer che si definiscono "uomini non normali"? Check pure quello. Siete ancora vivi o il coma etilico vi ha già sopraffatti?

"Yondaime" non ha l'obiettivo di raccontare la realtà ma vive in quella "bolla narrativa", tipica di una certa fetta di manga BL, in cui sentimenti e regole sociali si piegano alle convenzioni del genere con il solo scopo di consegnare al lettor3 appassionato di questo filone esattamente quello che vuole.

Tre stelle perché è disegnato bene e perché non tradisce le aspettative per un BL R18 (sì, regaz, molteplici scene di sesso). Ovviamente sconsigliatissimo se non apprezzate tutti gli stereotipi dello yaoi dei vecchi tempi (che ancora esiste e lotta in mezzo a noi).

Art is stunning and I did enjoy the story but boy did this need some content warnings for noncon & dubcon.

The relationship developed so fast that it felt very instalove and that made Tatsuyuki decision RE Rogi a bit odd as he did it to save Nozomi but they barely knew each other. I also find it hard to believe that Nozomi would have spent his entire life making himself better for a kid he met for ten minutes and stayed in love with him all that time.

That all being said, once we got a bit of growth to them, Tatsuyuki and Nozomi did have some cute moments. I would have preferred more time spent on that and less on the situation with Rogi.

Also, his history with the Doctor is never actually explained so...I had no idea what the significance was outside of what was explained on the back of the manga!

I enjoyed this. While I think the amount of spicy scenes were a bit overkill and I wish we got more explanation for certain scenes, it was still really good. Getting the background for Nozomi was quite sad, but gave a lot more understanding for their developing relationship.

I think I have a thing for yakuza/mafia!uke. As long as I can remember I really like and fully satisfied with this trope and route every time I read ones. Guess manly and capable uke had that effect on me LMAO. Now I know what uke preferences I love and want! Scarlet Beriko knows her things so of course the smut was a full buffet with lots of chemistry, not just some random squelch fwop slam schlup, it actually become good element to put in the plot and story. The sex scenes tells story, and those are incredibly hard to make. Not all mangakas can make it.

It has a messy start and a little bit questionable, but the kind of messy that I like! I really want this in ten volumes atlast huhu.

Aah~ manly uke have a special place in my heart. They are on another level, totally a different and superior breed 💍🧎🏻‍♀️

Well, this one took me by surprise. I thought it would be something more fluffy. Instead it packed quite a punch.

The yakuza man was actually the one abused. First, Nozomi takes advantage of him and while trying to remember where he had met Nozomi, Tatsuyuki falls pray to a rival gang. Again, a lot of dubious consent there and plenty of BDSM play. But what surprises is the depth of the characters and the intricate plot. Rogi-san was attracted to Tatsuyuki's father and instead devises a plan to lure Tatsuyuki and take advantage of him. Nozomi had been abused and forced to wear girl's clothes by his father when he was young. And Tatsuyuki is unwilling to be the fourth in the yakuza and shies away from his responsibilities. It doesn't all end in the happily ever after but really close to it, which is farther from reality but in the story, seems fitting after the adventures of the characters.

Really worth reading it. For the story line and amazing graphic.

This manga was dark. One MC was raped and abused by his father when he was just a boy, while the other needs to use his body as a whore to pay a debt and protect the other MC.
I wasn't sure about the rating till the end, since I don't like these themes, but at the same time the art and the end weren't bad. For this 2 stars.

I could have loved this manga about yakuza if it wasn't so dramatic.

Ich liebe Beriko-Mangas, ich weiß auch nicht warum, da sie def. dubcon und noncon Elemente enthalten, aber bei ihr is das irgendwie einfach gut gemacht, ich weiß echt nicht wieso :D aber so ist es halt. Und dann noch mit Yakuza-Thema und ihr Zeichenstil ist einfach mega. Also ja.
