Another winner is now added the the Zombie Road Series. Not only does it contain an action packed amount of zombie thrills, this episode had more than the usual focus on the psychopath "humans" running around out there amongst the chaos and zombies. Of course, they are causing all sorts of violence and power struggles. The humans were especially horrific in this edition as we get an up close view of how viscously humans can treat each other. Woman are objects, only for mens whims and owned by whoever lays claim.. To clarify, I am referring to one specific group of idiotic, power hungry, savage like men who also happen to come up against Jessie's (lead male protagonist) people quite a bit all in the quest of looking for trouble. Never a dull moment in this exceptionally clever and exciting episode. The ending is a cliff-hanger and I'm glad because that means there will (should) be (at least) another episode or two. Eric Shelman did another bang-up job with narrating and always keeps my imagination in overdrive. Looking forward to #VII.
This was a five star book right up until the end. One of the best written zombie series suddenly veered into a strange bit of sci-fi that was just out of character with everything else that came before it. It left me disappointed and unsatisfied.
A incredible race against the clock in a world where the zombies are not the worst possible enemies that are lurking out there ... "I would do great and terrible things for you." she said. You can't run away from your fears because you carry them in your heart with you. The torch bearer of humanity, the hero of the hopeless, Jessie The Desfigured Road Angel fears nothing more than loosing his only love Scarlet. She can feel the darkness of the Zombie virus invading her soul, each day a bit more, and even tho she's not afraid of death, she clings on to life for him. Jessie and Scarlet, those apocalyptic Romeo and Juliet fight one more time against all odds armed with hope and love---On the other side, Gunny is chasing his mortal enemy Cassey true the desert, and the ending of this encounter is a very unexpected one ... A zombie bite can change everything !
These books just always get read too fast. Once started they are impossible to set back down until one has devoured every single word. Wish I could give way more than 5 stars! 💕
Loved the latest installment to Zombie Road. David is an amazing story teller. We need answers to all the questions. The preview for the new story line at the end leaves you wanting more. Can’t wait to read more on the feral kids
This series has been a highly enjoyable read that I have powered through as I have grown attached to the characters and their situation. More than once this series has elicited genuine, strong emotion from me as a reader. Therefore, it's a massive disappointment to see it go out this way.
The shift to Jessie as the primary protagonist for these last three novels was a good one for me. Gunney's job was done for the most part and Jessie had certainly become an exciting character. However, it never really developed as strongly as I hoped because his story became less about the world and his mission, and more personal. I wouldn't normally mind this as character-driven stories are always my favourite. The problem was that this new direction felt a little aimless and as a result, the chapters started to get boring and repetitive.
Finally, there is the introduction of the new sci-fi elements in this last book. I was onboard for super-soldier serum as the explanation for how the zombie virus came about has already established that this universe has scientists who can deal with sci-fi levels of chemical experimentation. However, nothing had been set up at all for the next sci-fi element and it felt completely out of place in the story that Mr Simpson has created so far.
It rubbed me the wrong way and robbed the ending of the impact it could have had.
Overall the series is a pretty solid 4-stars, it's just a shame it didn't stick the landing.
It was freaking awesome. One of the best zombie apocalypse series out there. With very detailed thought and mechanical military and scientific nuances put into it. When reading this series and this final book in this part of the series. The rider pulls you in to the story itself. You feel like you are part of the story that you know the characters that they are your family and friends and that their enemies are your enemies. You hate the bad people as much as they do you like the good people as much as they do and you hate when someone on the side of good dies or is injured. The different points of view that switch it back-and-forth gives you the entire story from beginning to end. In this final book of this part of the series it will wrap up most questions. Yet create the possibility for even more Siri’s spinoffs later. I give no spoilers so you must read the book to find out. It is action-packed from beginning to end and will keep you enthralled all the way through. Keep the stories coming
An action packed and slightly crackers way to round off the main story.
This series has always kind of been like the Hollywood blockbuster of zombie fiction. Super tough guys and super bad dudes, along with a healthy dose of over the top action, and that's what I've always enjoyed about it.
A solid series of books, that always feels as if it's about to stretch credulity just a bit too far, but somehow manages to just about avoid it; which is saying something, considering some of the stuff introduced in the last couple of books.
Well worth a read if you like zombie stuff, post apocalyptic fiction, or just a decent adventure yarn.
This book grabs you by the throat and never lets up. Numerous epic battles are on the horizon as Gunny and Griz ready to take down Casey and his waste of skin minions while Jessie and Scarlet are heading to take on her father and the rest of the Anubis followers. This book will have you go through many emotions as the battles result in numerous deaths. Each book in this awesome series has you on pins and needles until the ending and this one is no different. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who loves the zombie/horror genre.
I really enjoyed the book. It wasn't a love story. Sure there was some romance, but not full on. I like the characters development. I thought the whole time machine was a bit too far fetched for this series. Don't get me wrong, I love fantasy and sci fi, but this is a zombie story... I would have liked more closure with the different groups, I know you can't have one for all, but the main characters would have been nice. I am excited to read about the kids with the animals.
he Romeo and Juliet of the Zombie Road saga found in a tattered world the purest form of love... "Agape love in the purest form. Unmerited, gracious and rich in mercy... Unnatural and unusual like both of them, willing to lay down their lives or vanquish a thousand enemies.... The enchantment between them was nearly palpable... A love that would move mountains and shape worlds. " Now you have to admit that for a author that considers action his strongest point, David Simpson creates a incredible beautiful image of love... Check out Zombie Road VI Highway to heartache. Available on KU.
I love this series! I’m writing this after finishing the first 7 books. It’s absolutely one of my all time favorite series. Do yourself a favor and pick up this series! You will not regret it and I bet you’ll be recommending it to everyone! Believable amazing characters. Great plot! Can’t wait to dive in to the Feral children series now too! Also time travel and zombies.... I’m in heaven! That’s my 2 favorite things! Narration by Eric Sherman was spectacular! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review
A terrific addition to the Zombie Road universe. I like how once again at the end of 3 I feel like I could walk away from the series if needed and not feel like there are unanswered questions, unless of course you read on ;-). Excited to see where he takes those 2 characters in particular as that was a very big surprise, but not one that I hate! Looking forward to following all the characters as they progress and continue to......... live!?
It is the end of a long story, so much happens, so many tears. Following Jesse and Scarlett, trying to make things right. And of course Papa Gunny. So much action, so many secrets to reveal. It is sad to see the story end, but everything eventually comes to an end. Many places for spinoffs and new characters to build on. This was a classic tale of survival and living. Couldn’t be any better.
Oh mah gosh! True to form Simpson takes us on a ride we don't want to get off of and then manages to leave us with a story that can move in very different directions with very different (yet same) people! Cannot wait for more!
.....series!!! Enjoyed every chapter of every book!!!!! It's s shame that this particular storyline is done with, but thankfully, there are more books from this author to be coming soon!!!!
This is a very good book. Held your interest and I couldn’t put it down. Truly hope it’s not the last one. While it closed many stories it left open lines for another story or even a spin off. Keep writing!! Please
I read all the books in this series and liked them all but the ending really threw me. It didn't make much sense but he's working on another book so maybe that'll help. All in all, it was a good series.
After reading all the Zombie Road series (up to now anyways) I was thrilled at the end. Lots of questions still to ponder. Knowing more than I did and able to figure out more than I could before I started.
Not sure how to rate this one so went with average. It was a great read but felt the Author just gave up on the series at the end. Other than that it was a great read with a great story, always love a little Sci-Fi in my Sci-Fi.
Excellent follow on and completion to his Zombie road Series. Jessie is a hybrid badass with an equally badass girlfriend whos not quite human as well. Their story and that of the main characters that we've grown to love try to improve the new world forming after the plaque
David is an amazing story teller! Zombie road is one of the best zombie stories out there! I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. Definitely check put the rest of his books including his new feral children spin off.
One of the best zombie apocalypse series I have read!
I love reading apocalyptic books and THIS SERIES is one of the best! Very well written, lots of action, great character development. I read until my eyes hurt!
Holy Crap there is a lot going on here, this one starts out strong, gets the bit in it's mouth and takes off and goes! I can't use enough exclamation points! Well done! There's a teaser on a new series as a plus.
This book wraps up most of the storylines of the zombie road series. The series contains everything you want to see in a zombie series including building of a new country. I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone who likes the undead
I love a good zombie apocalypse, and this series is a blast. The world is coming to an end (or is it?) with zombies everywhere, but they aren’t the only problem. Great series with extremely well developed characters.
