About the author

Raghavan was born in Adyar, Chennai and spent his early years in many villages of Chengalpet District because of the frequent transfers of his father in his job. In the mid-1980s, his family shifted and settled in Chennai where Raghavanfinished his school and college studies in 1988. Even though he has completed a course in Mechanical Engineering, he did not want to take a job in a factory because of the interest in writing. Raghavan started his career as a sub-editor in Amudhasurabi Monthly Magazine. The famous weekly magazine kalki offered him the post Assistant Editor in 1992 after he showed his talent in humorous articles and stories.

Raghavan worked as an assistant editor in Kalki for about 8 years and joined in kumudam the No.1. Tamil weekly magazine in 2000. After completing a full year in Kumudam as Assistant Editor, he was appointed as the Editor in Charge for then newly started by monthly Kumudam Junction.

Raghavan left the magazine industry and became involved in publishing in 2003 and presently leading the Tamil Division (‘'Kizhakku Pathippagam'’) of New Horizon Media Private Limited.

Some books have to be read at the right stage of your life. If this book had been read when I was younger, I would have dismissed it completely and had I read it after 10 years - I would have too many fixed opinions that I might have found something to take offence.

Pa.Raghavan's Yathi is a book like no other that I have read across any language. It is about 4 brothers from a family who have chosen to become sanyasis - each a different path. From the narrative standpoint that is a prophecy told to us very early on and yet there is denial and ridicule every time it comes across.

Three of the brothers are returning home after 35 odd years for their mother's death and last rites. The paths they have taken are told to us through narratives set on the youngest brother Vimal. The first brother is a mastered Siddhar who could communicate in dreams and make people do their biddings. People can't find him unless he wants to be found and he has a couple of agents - a sufi outside a mosque and an uncouth siddhar called Sorimuthu who guide the brothers at different points of time.

The second brother Vinay is struggling to find God and peace. He indulges in black magic and is an unhappy soul who derails from his path often. The third brother find spirituality in Krishna and the fourth is the atheist king maker who leads an enlightened life. The characters and narratives are highly rewarding and the character arcs are amazing!

The pawns in their journey like Chitra the young girl who three of the brothers have fancied in their childhood or their poor uncle who stays by their mother. This is a book that I imagine would have taken every ounce of energy and accomplishes to not offend anyone. Even when they are debating the philosophies, there is humor used to express the fallibility of ideas.

This is a book that was surprisingly high on philosophy and yet had a great entertainment quotient. This along with Iravaan are two books that can't be categorized into genres and can't be explained without spoiling it. Read it if you can. A genius author!

This is a contemporary novel I am reading after a long time. This novel takes the reader through the nostalgic thoughts of old villages along mahabalipuram which are now part of extended chennai city and the most happening places of the city now. The author describes the lives of people in a family who are all doing tapasya in their own way. Some part of the book may be a little drag especially the boasting of vimal but the story really picks up towards the end when it returns back to thiruvidanthai

இது முழுக்க முழுக்க சித்தர்கள் மற்றும் ரிஷிகள் பற்றிய புனைவு நாவல். ஒரு குடும்பத்தின் வாயிலாக அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையை நமக்கு சொல்கிறார். ஒரு தாய், தந்தை, தாய் மாமன், நான்கு மகன்கள். மூத்த மகனுக்கு ஒரு ரிஷியை சந்திக்கும் வாய்ப்பு அமைகிறது, அவன் ஒரு ஓலைச்சுவடியை கண்டறிகிறான். அதில் எழுதியிருப்பது என்னவென்றால், அந்த குடும்பத்தில் இருக்கும் 4 மகன்களுமே சித்தர்கள் ஆகுவார்கள் என்பது தான். அதே போல் மூத்த மகன் வீட்டை விட்டு ஓடி சித்தர் ஆகிறான். மீதி மூன்று மகன்கள் என்ற ஆனார்கள், அவர்களும் சுவடியில் குறிப்பிட்டது போல் சித்தர்கள் ஆனார்களா அல்லது இல்லற வாழ்வை மேற்கொண்டார்களா என்பது தான் கதை.

இது ஒரு பெரிய புத்தகம். ஆனால், துளிக் கூட, ஓரிடத்தில் கூட சலிப்பில்லாமல், தொய்வில்லாமல் இந்த கதை நகர்கிறது. இது ஒரு அழகான அனுபவம், இதை படிக்கையில் நமக்கும் சித்தர்கள், ரிஷிகளை நோக்கி ஒரு மனப் பயணம் தொடங்கும். கதை இப்படித் தான் முடியும் என ஒரு இடத்தில் நாம் கணிக்கையில் முழுக்க முழுக்க நம்மை வியப்பில் ஆழ்த்தும் ஒரு முடிவு. இந்த புத்தகம் எனக்கு ஒரு அழகான,புதுமையான அனுபவம். தமிழில் வித்தியாசமான புத்தகங்களை படிக்க விழைபவர்களுக்கு இது ஒரு தரமான பரிந்துரையாகவே இருக்கும் என்பதில் சந்தேகமில்லை.

தமிழ் இல் கட்டாயம் வாசிக்க வேண்டிய புத்தகம் . இந்த புத்தகத்தை சில வருடங்கள் முன்னர் படித்திருந்தால் இந்த அனுபவம் கிடைத்திருக்குமா தெரியவில்லை . தற்போதைய வயதின் முதிர்ச்சி தான் சில விசயங்கள் புரிந்து கொள்ள உதவியது .

சித்தர்கள், துறவிகள் என்று ஒரு அழகான ஆச்சரியமும் அனுபவங்கள் அழகாக சொல்ல பட்ட கதை. ஓடும் ந்தியை போல சரளமான எழுத்து நடை , படிக்காமல் பல இழுப்பட்ட புத்தகம் வாசிக்க தொடங்கியதும் வைக்க விடாமல் படிக்க வைத்த அற்புத படைப்பு

யதி- விமர்சனம் .

பாபா படம் பார்த்திருப்பீர்கள் என்று நினைக்கிறன் . அது ஒரு ஆன்மிகம் கலந்த ஆக்ஷன் படம் என்று படத்தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் விளம்பரப்படுத்தி இருப்பார்கள் . படத்தில் ஆன்மிகம் இருக்கிறதென்றால் கேள்விக்குறி தான் . ஆனால் ஆக்ஷன் பிரமாதமாக இருக்கும் . ஆக்ஷன் பிரமாதமாக இருக்கிறது என்பதற்காக அந்த படத்தில் ஆன்மீகமும் இருக்கிறது என்பதை ஒத்துக்கொள்ள முடியுமா . முடியாது . அப்படி தான் இந்த புத்தகமும் . படிக்க விறுவிறுப்பாக இருக்கிறது . ஒரு பக்கத்தில் ஏன் ஒரு பத்தியில் கூட படிப்பவருக்கு தொய்வில்லை . ஆனால் இது ஆன்மீகம் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட புத்தகமென்றால் கண்டிப்பாக இல்லை . நான் ஒரு நாத்திகன் என்பதால் இதை சொல்லவில்லை . விட்டலாச்சாரியார் வித்தைகள் மட்டுமே நிறைந்திருக்கும் இந்த நாவல் , நாவல்களின் முக்கிய அம்சமொன்றை பிடிக்க தவறியிருக்கிறது என்றே தோன்றுகிறது . எல்லா நாவல்களும் விறுவிறுப்பாகவும் வேகமாகவும் நகர தேவையில்லை . ஆனால் அந்த பாணியை தன் பெரும்பலமாக கருத்தியிருக்கிற ஆசிரியர் அந்த பாணியை விட்டுவிட கூடாது என்பதற்காக ஆன்மிகத்தின் சாரம்சத்தை விட்டுவிட்டார் என்றே தோன்றுகிறது . தத்துவ விவாதங்கள் என்பது பொதுவெளிக்கு பொது மக்களின் விவாதத்திற்கும் , வாழ்க்கைக்கும் மிக அருகில் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பது என் அவா . ஆனால் படித்து அதை உணர , உணர்ந்து அதை எளிதாய் விலக்குவது என்பதை ஒரு சமரசமற்ற வேள்வியாக செயல்பட்டால் மட்டுமே சாத்தியமாகும் . ஆயிரம் பக்கங்களை நிரப்பவேண்டும் , விறுவிறுப்பாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக ஆன்மிகத்தின் சாரம்சம் இதில் பெரிதாக சமரசத்துக்குள்ளாகியிருக்கிறது என்பதே நிதர்சனம் . இயக்குனர் பாலாவின் படங்களை பார்த்து விட்டு வந்தால் பார்க்கும் பிச்சைக்காரர்களை எல்லாம் ஒரு கருணையோடு அணுகுவது போல் , இந்த நாவலை படித்து முடித்த பின் பார்க்கும் பிச்சைக்காரர்களை எல்லாம் இவன் என்ன குறளி வித்தை கற்றுவைத்துக்கொண்டு தன்னை சித்தனாக நினைத்து கொண்டிருக்கிறான் என்றே பார்க்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது . தத்துவங்கள் என்பது ஒரு சமூகத்தின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கேற்ப மாறிக்கொண்டே இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதனாலேயே மிக சிறந்த தத்துவங்கள் பல கேள்விகளுக்கு வாசல் திறந்தே வைத்திருக்கும் . பதில் இல்லாத கேள்விகளை வைத்திருப்பதாலே படைப்புகள் தத்துவங்களாகவும் , ஆன்மிக விவாத ப��ருளாகவும் ஆகிவிடாது . நாவலை படித்து முடித்தவுடன் ஆசிரியர் முடிக்காமல் விட்ட கேள்விகள் எதுவுமே நியாபகமில்லாமல் போனது என்பது என்னுடைய ���னுபவம் . ஆசிரியர் பா.ராகவன் அபுனைவின் சூப்பர்ஸ்டார் . அவர் எழுத்தின் மிக பெரிய ரசிகன் நான் . திரையுலக சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் போல் அவரும் இந்த பாதையை தேர்ந்தெடுத்திருக்க வேண்டாம் . அவருடைய ரசிகர்களுக்கு அது விருந்தாக இருக்குமென்பதில் சந்தேகமில்லை . ஆனால் ....................

பிரம்மிப்பூட்டும் ஆன்மிக அனுபவம்.

சித்தர்களின் கதைகளை கேட்பது எப்போதும் பரவசமானது. நேரடியாக உணர்ந்த சில அனுபவங்களைக் கொண்டு அபுனைவாக அதகளப்படுத்தியுள்ளார் ஆசிரியர். ஒவ்வொரு அத்தியாயத்திலும் திகைப்பூட்டும் திருப்பங்கள். புத்தகங்களை வாசித்துப் பழகாத எனது மனைவிக்கு சில அத்தியாயங்களை படித்துக் காட்டியபோது அவர்களையும் ஆட்கொண்டார் யதி. கதை நடக்கும் இடத்துக்கும், உணர்வுக்கும் நம்மை அழைத்துப்போகும் எழுத்துநடை ஆசிரியருடைய அனுபவத்தின் சாரம். அற்புதமான அனுபவத்தை படித்து உணருங்கள்.
