Cherry Hollow #1

Law's Stubborn Omega

Rate this book
Sheriff Trent Miller was happy with his perfect little life. Being a thirty-six-year-old omega with no partner or family suited him just fine, until it all changed. When he ran out of his heat-suppressant pills and his doctor refused to prescribe more, he had his first heat in years. Around the same time, a young alpha who drives him crazy started working as his partner.

Lawson Fisher hated Cherry Hollow. He only returned to his small hometown to help his papa when his dad was diagnosed with cancer. Working alongside Sheriff Miller was frustrating at the best of times, but when Trent went into heat, Lawson felt it was his duty to help him through it, like any good alpha. Besides, he couldn’t seem to keep his hands off Trent.

The more time Lawson spends with Trent, the more he realizes the omega isn’t as bad as he first thought. When they find out Trent’s pregnant, both their lives change. They need to decide the best thing to do for themselves and their baby, especially since not everyone in town is rooting for them to have a happily ever after.

Overall, I really enjoyed this mpreg romance between two cops in this small town.

Law is the younger alpha, I think age 24? and has recently moved back home to help out his father and family, but he doesn't really want to be stuck in this small town. Trent, is in his mid-thirties and loves his town and job. I really enjoyed the dynamic of the younger alpha and older omega, and I always love a an ABO story where the omega has to go through a more-serious-than-usual heat. (I thought this could have been even steamier and sexier than it was!)

I'll definitely check out the next book in this series!

This is my first mpreg book and I gotta say it was very interesting. As much as I love gfy books and the like, it was nice to read a book where two men getting together was just as natural as any other coupling.
The sex scenes that were mentioned were very hot but I felt like there could have been more...but maybe that is because I have a dirty mind. At any rate I liked the story and plan to read more of this series.

I like when the alpha and omega in a story are not always the older alpha and the younger omega waiting to be cared for. In this one Trent is the older omega and Law is a 20 something alpha. Law winds up helping Trent out when he goes into heat with the consequences one would expect. Law does not want to be in Cherry Hollow and Trent did not expect to find a partner but this story reminds that the best things in life generally are not the ones we plan for.

Not bad..

I love me an older omega/younger alpha pairing. I loved Lawson and tolerated Trenton, man the omega really was unlikable for most of the story.

This book had editing errors, the wrong words being used really took me out of the story. Also, there was an issue with the flow of the story. I don't know who wrote which part but the differences were noticeable.

Trent is a 36 year old omega Sheriff, he’s a big guy (muscular and tall) and has been on heat suppressants for 5 years straight. His mom especially is very “traditional” and believes sex is only for married couples and only to have babies (luckily she loves her son more than the Bible). Law is a 24 year old alpha cop, and is bigger than Trent. His omega parent is a judge and his alpha parent is a defense attorney.

The good:

I absolutely adore some of the twists on “traditional” a/b/o tropes here, including freaking everything about Trent (except his name). I feel like a lot of times omegas have “personalities” that only consist of being hot, small, weak, vulnerable, and pregnant. Notice none of those are actual personalities. I loved that Trent was sensible, stubborn, vulnerable, strong, dedicated, kind of a smart ass, but mature and didn’t act like he was 20. I loved everything about his character honestly. Except for how he stands in rivers - the guy’s got issues there.

I liked that Law controlled himself as an alpha and wanted to care for Trent but also knew when to back the eff off. He’s young but it was so cute watching him fall for Trent. Trent was like “look, I like you, but I don’t know man, I’m no walk in the park, I’m not gonna change, and we’re having kids. Now’s the time to get out while the getting’s good,” and he mean it. Law, however, wanted to be close to Trent and his family.

I adore that Law’s omega parent was the stern, powerful, protector of the family and that his alpha parent while also protective was more nurturing. I’ve rarely seen that. Normally omega parents have a watery smile and a lot of cleaning to do.

Law’s papa was a blast. Honestly I’d read a book about him.

I liked that even though Trent’s parents are Bible thumping traditionalists they support their son above all else. I also like that Trent is an atheist.

I loved that Trent wasn’t sad and angsty about being an impossibly old omega with no alpha and no babies and self esteem issues. It’s fine but I get real tired of that archetype especially when it’s rooted deeply in misogyny. I also love that he wasn’t a virgin (I struggle with the idea that virginity is good and related to purity). I love that Trent was tall and muscular and cranky and more sensible than the other characters. I love that he was closer to 40 than 30.

I was irritated and thrilled by Jacob being mad when Trent yawned. The guy is pregnant and you’re trying to get him fired, you think he’s sleeping well? I’ve had men be like that with me before and I am so happy Jacob was called out as a jackass. Also, I appreciate that Trent unequivocally said that coercing your spouse into having sex when they don’t want to us rape. He’s right.

The Not So Good:

There are a fair number of typos, awkward sentences, and sometimes very abrupt transitions in the story. Sometimes people do and say things that are nothing like what a human would do. Mostly in the first 1/3 of the book I think. Could have use some editing and proofing.

The thinly-veiled misogyny and prejudice against pregnant people. Though I guess I’m glad the book counted that as bad. Also, I bet no one in Cherry Hollow would have said a word if Law (the younger one) was the pregnant one.

Sometimes people did things that left me scratching my head in confusion because it’s not at all how people act (like that whole conversation between Trent and Jacob where Trent slipped and fell under the water in the river like twice and then popped back up to keep going with their conversation, LOL).

The Final Verdict:

It’s a soapy drama that’s also quite funny at times (not always on purpose). The end was hugely endearing and I loved it. The quality was about 3.5 and the enjoyment was closer to 4.5 for me, so I split the difference and gave it a 4. If it had been proofed and polished more it would have been a 5 from me. Super fun!

Edit: ugh, the story keeps coming back to me and I like it more. 5 stars.

Interesting

*Slight Spoilers*
I'm so torn about this book. On one hand, it's a very sweet book about an alpha and omega meeting, getting pregnant and falling in love. On the other hand, almost every single character made me mad at some point. Trent is supposed to be a strong, independent and career driven omega but he constantly makes bad decisions. I don't know why he would think he was too old to get pregnant if he still is going into to heat. I don't know why he continues to meet with Jake alone when he knows what kind of person he is. Lawson had a couple small moments towards the beginning of the book where he acted very stuck up but he was one of the bright spots of the book. I can't believe it took these two 8 months to say I love you to each other. That seems like a super long time to me and given their situation, you would think all their emotions would be heightened. The secondary characters were mostly irritating and added so much crazy drama. I'm wondering where the authors are from and where the story is supposed to take place because of some of the language used. Like one time, it said something about a bear crapping in the buckwheat and that's just not a phrase used in America, at least not one I've ever heard in all my years. I will probably at least give the next book a gander.

Trent was an omega in his 30s who always focused on his career and was okay with not having a family. He didnt think he needed an alpha, not until law came back into town to be near his sick father. There was attraction between the two right away but trent thought the alpha was a bit of a jerk and law saw the omega as stubborn and knew he didn't like him. Then trent goes into heat and law is the only one there to help him through it. They decided it will be a one time occurense and that law will help him during his heat and that will be it but things have a away of being spread through a small town causing both alpha and omega other issues to deal with. Trent never expects the next turn of events to ever happen but life has a funny way of working out. This was a cute and short fun read. I enjoyed both characters and their story. They were both trying to ignore their true feelings for one another and were both pretty stubborn. Trent didn't need an alpha to take care of him. He had been taking care of himself this long without one. But trent can't fight his feelings for law and law can't help but want to be there for trent even if he doesn't need him. I finished this was pretty quickly and it held my attention the whole time. I cant wait to read more from this author.

Age really is nothing but a number! Trent, Omega Sheriff dedicated to his job because he thought he was too old and past finding his Alpha and having kids. Law, 24yo Alpha returning home because his dad was undergoing chemo and his father needed support. Law left his police job and interviewed for a position wit the Sheriff's office. The fix was in, his dads got him the interview/job. Jacob, Trent's ex had minimum choice in hiring Law and Trent understood he had no choice. He liked to yank Law's chain until he realized he was attracted to him. Law had an 'I hate Cherry Hill and hope to leave as soon as dad is better' attitude. Law didn't understand his attraction to Trent because he was not a permanent type of guy. The odds are against Law and Trent on many levels. Will the age gap bother them? Will the boss/employee relationship be a risk to their jobs? Are they even compatible? Can Law find anything good abotu Cheerry Hill? The characters are fun, funny, lovable and very nicely developed. You want to hope they all find their HEAs. Excellent start to a series. Nicely written, good story flow. Well done! I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.

This is my first adventure into the omegaverse stories. I wasn't sure how I would feel about non-shifter MM preg but I was pleasantly surprised by this series. Law is a 24-year-old detective who came back to town to help his dad whom is recovering from cancer and they need help with the triplets. He loves his dad and pop and would do anything even come back to a town he never thought he would, though he really doesn't plan on staying.
Trent is a 34-year-old omega and has been taking heat suppressants though they are illegal. now he is being taken off and his heat comes back full force. He doesn't want his old Alpha to come around him since he married another omega. Law ends up taking care of Trent then things happen spiraling both men's lives out of control.
This was a very good story. Good plot, good characters great romance and kept me wanting more.
The narration was pretty good keeping me interested and not wanting to stop.

This was a very enjoyable mpreg romance, non shifter in the A/O verse. I really liked Law and Trent, although I found "stubborn omega" to be a little bit of a misnomer. There was very little stubborness on Trent's part. Very low angst, and the angst was external, not between Trent and Law. I hate "the big misunderstanding/separation" and this had none which is a big plus in my book. I also liked that the pregnancy was incorporated into the story. I love mpreg, and I personally WANT it to be a big part of the story. There was some humor which was also a bonus, humor in a romance is awesome. This is the first time I have read a Ki Brightly/Meg bawden book, but I will be looking for further books by these authors. I like the writing style.

I absolutely loved this book. Trent is an older omega and sherrif of Cherry Hollow. He's had difficulty with his heats and isn't really interested in becoming a father. He'd much rather just do his damn job, thank you very much. Lawson is a young alpha who's come home because of a health scare concerning his father. He ran out town years ago, vowing never to return. When he lands a job as the new deputy, it occurs at the most innopurtune time for Trent. Suddenly, finding out he's pregnant with his much younger deputy causes all kinds of ruckus. Including a vindictive ex and prominent parents who aren't at all keen on the idea of an older omega for their son. Eventually they realize they have to live their lives on their own terms and create their own family in order to have their HEA.

Age really is nothing but a number!

I really enjoyed this book, for me it had a larger suspense and angst theme then other mpreg books I've read. My pulse would always go up whenever Trent (36yr old Sheriff) was around Jake (the gross mayor)! I was so stressed out for Trent and absolutely hated Jake. But I really loved Lawson and his family and Ambrose (my heart really felt for him, I can't wait to read his story I hope Jake gets what he deserves, and Ambrose's parents... grrrr, I hate all of them). This book was really good at keeping my attention throughout the whole thing and really bringing out different emotions! This is my first time listening to Ki Brightly & Meg Bawden and I'm super impressed!

"Law’s Stubborn Omega" received THREE stars.

The plot moved too fast at the end. It’s never stated if Trent got his job back as Sheriff or if he really took Lincoln’s suggestion and resigned in the first place.

The novel gained *stars* for these items:

* gained for: "The book caught my interest in the first five pages."

1/2 * gained for: "I thought about the book when I was forced to set it down and re-enter society."

* gained for: "There were no info dumps, poor writing, or copy edit mistakes that jerked me out of the story."

1/2 * gained for: "I was sad when the book ended. I wanted more!"

The novel failed to gain stars for this item:

NO STAR gained for: "That's it. I'm hooked on this author. I will automatically try anything she/he/they writes."

I love a great MPreg romance, and this was a fantastic read. I really enjoyed the story of Law and Trent. Trent is a 36 year old sheriff and has put himself into a sticky situation. The only one that can give him a hand is Law. A 24 year old deputy that has just been hired. Who knew what all the job description left out!!

Strong story line, vivid description to detail, easy to love characters, and engaging dialogue. All in all, a great read.

Written as a first person, multi pov with a what I would call a HFN ending but believe it to actually be a HEA ending.

Lawson goes home to help his Papa take care of his little brothers and his Dad. Lawson gets a job working along side Sheriff Trent Miller. When Trent goes into heat, Lawson helps him through it. They have a fight and do not talk for two months. Trent finds out he is pregnant and goes to tell Lawson. Lawson and Trent need to figure how they want to proceed. The baby is their first concern. Will Lawson stay in Cherry Hollow ? Will Trent and Lawson get married? IS there one baby or more?

Law’s Stubborn Omega was freakin awesome!
I’ve read a few stories by Meg Bawden before and I loved each one, but this is my first time reading anything by Ki Brightly and I gotta say I’ll definitely be reading more from that author.
I’m going to be investing in all the Cherry Hollow series because I wanna know what else happens to all the characters in Cherry Hollow.
So it’s a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book because I loved it and I think you will too!

This had me laughing, loving and cursing all the way through. Ki and Meg have written a fantastic book that you don't want to miss. Side characters that will have you either wanting to kill them or hug them, and MC's that will grab you and not let you go. Lawson is your typical young 20's guy and Trent is older and a lot more set in his ways, but the way these two grow together and accept everything about each other is amazing. Cannot wait for the next book in this series - is it out yet?

He is an omega and a sheriff and he loves his job as well as being alone. The doctor will not give him any more pills which stop him going on heat. An alpha is only home to help his father and they find him a pain but when he goes on heat trouble is around the corner. What will happen? What happens when one gets pregnant? How will they cope? See how they do

I really enjoyed the story of Trent and Lawson. When Trent and Lawson meet they have an instant attraction and end up spending Trent’s heat together but plan to keep it as just sex. Quite a few obstacles stand in their way as their feelings grow for one another. I really like that Trent is a very strong and independent Omega and that Lawson respects that. The narrator did a good job with the story and the characters. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.

Such a great book

I loved Lawson and Trent's story in this book. I loved that the author didn't make them get married and that Lawson's papa didn't really like Trent so much. It made the story so much more relatable, and the storyline with all the different characters having a part in the drama made me keep reading. This was a really good book and start to the series. I'm ready for the next book.

Lawson made me laugh in the beginning with his constant scowling lol. Lawson and Trent had a bumpy start but things start heating up pretty quickly as certain events set into motion. Their connection was strong but it wasn’t insta love and that’s what I really liked about these two sexy guys.

Absolutely fantastic

I am always on the hunt for the perfect new omegaverse series. This one is perfection. The entire story is so well written and well developed. I loved the characters and how much detail went into every bit of the book. I am thrilled to have found it and can’t wait for the next one in the series.

Solid 3.5 stars.

Hits all the mpreg tropes, which is great if you like mpreg. I could relate to Trent doing whatever it takes not to end up pregnant.

Only con: the trope of birth control/heat suppressants being terrible for the omega's health. It's kind of a lazy way to create a reason that the heat would happen at the exact time that the alpha shows up.

3.8 ⭐️

I really enjoyed this book. I needed a simple read after the unpleasant one I had previously and this book did a great job. Its low angst, family oriented, small town, and sweet. And I think the author did a decent job in building the relationship between Lawson and Trent instead of the instalove that most AOB books are known for — I appreciated that.

I read it all in one sitting.

Enjoyed the story, It’s a nice change that the omega is the oldest. Trent and Law is a cute couple and I like that Law understands his omega and desided whats most important in life. I realy dislike Jack, and pleased when he wasnt in a possion of power anymore.
