Some people just need to die.

Sometimes those people are human. Sometimes they're not.

I don’t ask questions. Questions are against The Code.

I get the job done. I take out the Mark. Then I get paid.

After that, I usually get laid.

Not a bad life for a half Demon, if you ask me.

For a Sister, killing comes easy. It’s what we’re trained to do.

Until it doesn’t come easy. Until we start to question everything we’ve been taught, everything we’ve been forced to learn.

The Code. Just cling to The Code. Say the words as many times as you must.

Your life depends on it.

I am the night and the shadows. I am the ghost on the wind. I am a maiden of mayhem. I am a Sister of sin.

If there were halfs, I would have given a 3.5. This is definitely just the beginning. The book was good, but I hope to see more in the next book.

My rating: 4/5

I read this book in one go, unable to put it down once I had begun reading, which didn’t take more than a few hours since it’s only about 150 pages long.

It was fun, dark and sexy – all those things I love in a book and it’s not written for the younger crowd which pleased me enormously.

The story is written in a first person narrative, which I sometimes can find to be a disadvantage if not done correctly, but for this book it was perfect. It gives more room to embrace the humour of the main characther.

The main charachter Iliana is a halfling, half demon/half human, and she belongs to a sisterhood of skilled assassins who hunts and kills anyone for the right price. She was drafted to the sisterhood at the age of 10 and spent 8 years being trained to kill and suppress any human emotion through brutal abuse and drilling. This has led her to become a cold blooded killer who never thinks twice about killing her assigined marks.

Through the book the reader gets to follow her development from being the perfect soldier who never questions anything her authorities tells her, to slowly becoming more and more connected to her humanity and through that starts making decisions on her own.

I absolutley adore Iliana. She is not your typical weak female caracther who needs rescuing. No sir, and she is the first to correct anyone who seems to think differently.

Following are two excerpts from the book that reflects Iliana’s charachter:

”I don’t need to be saved Kieran,” I told him as I claimed a seat over by the balcony and looked out at the city below. “I’m not a damsel in distress.”

“Stop staring like a weirdo,” I said whitout lifting a lid, voice low.
A quiet chuckle responded. “I can’t believe you climbed out of that hole with a dislocated shoulder,” he said.
I released a heavy breath. “Yeah, well, I didn’t want to die down there, and no one was coming to help.”

Every good book needs a sex appeal and Dark Huntress is not lacking in that aspect in the least. Iliana’s companion through the book is the incredibly hot angel Kieran and the sexual tension between them is crackling to which I have no shame to say I enjoyed immensly.

I actually thought I had the whole book figured out. Before reading the last page I judged it to be a book that followed the normal storyline that most urban fantasy books follow. But then it took a turn just in the last paragraphs and I had my world turned upside down. I won’t reveal the plot twist, but at first it had me in total disbelief until reality slowly dawned on me and my confusment was replaced with laughter – the book had fooled me completley and I’m so grateful that it did. It’s not often I find myself suprised by a book’s ending. Maybe I’m just reading the wrong books, I don’t know. But in that case I finally found a book that left me in a shock that to my own knowledge only has been greater when I watched ”The Red Wedding” episode from HBO’s tv-show Game of Thrones.

After the plot twist the book abruptly ends with a cliffhanger. Say what you want about cliffhangers. I know they can be really annoying but fortunatly for me I already had the second book ready and even though it was in the middle of the night I started reading book number two without missing a heartbeat (until I fell asleep, so I haven’t finished reading it yet).

The reason I didn’t rate this book 5/5 is not because there’s something wrong with it, but for me to give the highest grade I need a more developed storyline which isn’t possible in only 150 pages. This book is a great fast fun read for days when you don’t have the energy to dive in to a complex world, but if you crave detailed surroundings and world structures you will be dissappointed. But if you accept the fact that this isn’t that sort of book I can promise you that you will enjoy it!

I would have given 3.5 or even 4 stars, but its a cliffhanger, from which i usually try to refrain. Im not sure ill keep reading if its a theme and every book will end the same way. The main character is interesting and seems that she is evolving and maturing throughout the plot, but there is a dark feel to the story which doesnt entice me to keep going.

El libro no es gran cosa, se nota que la autora no ha escrito mucho. Pero el final me ha dejado con ganas de saber como continua, menudo cliffhanger.
