Mission: Her Defense

Rate this book
One former special forces Marine. One tall, handsome police detective who pushes all her buttons. One dangerous investigation that forces them to work together.

Blair Mason is badass to the bone. She’s no stranger to loss and barely survived the mission that ended her military career. Now, as part of Team 52, she never shies away from a fight to ensure pieces of powerful ancient technology don’t fall into the wrong hands. Unfortunately, she’s often forced to “liaise” with the team’s contact at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police. The tall, hard-bodied detective ignites her temper quicker than any man she’s ever known…and after a terrible massacre, she’s horrified to find that she and MacKade are being ordered to work together.

Detective Luke MacKade was born a protector. He takes care of his family, and as a dedicated homicide detective, he protects his city. He is less thrilled with his job of cleaning up after Team 52 after they tear through Vegas on a mission. Blair is a woman who sets him off just by breathing, but even he can’t deny the powerful attraction he feels to her strength and skill. When several cursed samurai swords are stolen in a bloody attack, it is up to Luke and Blair to get them back…before more blood is shed.

But others are after the swords and their hidden powers. As Luke and Blair’s dangerous investigation intensifies, they face danger at every turn. Luke battles his intense need to protect the woman he’s falling for, a woman who neither wants or needs his protection. But as their desire burns white-hot, Luke will learn that the toughest defenses are the ones around Blair’s heart.

4.5 stars 🌟.

Blair and Luke was one hot couple. As always action scenes were bomb. The beginning reminded me of first book in the series- spooky. The artifacts and backstory regarding it was fascinating. Enjoyed it alot.

I hugely enjoy this authors imagination and this time she adds a Samurai twist that was wonderfully unexpected. Team 52 are without a doubt pretty badass but Blair really stood out as extremely capable in this all too short story. I thought matching her up with a hotshot detective worked extremely well and there's plenty of humour running through their interactions. Luke might not always approve of the way Team 52 conduct their missions but at least they are on the same side and he's really not immune to Blair at all ! Still with killers to catch will this couple ever confront what lies between them ?
Fast paced and exciting but this certainly had a different feel to some of the other stories by this author. I enjoyed the police procedures aspect and the scientific explanation made sense yet if blunt I kind of miss the previous possibilities of the supernatural. Still if you want an adrenaline fuelled story with a scorching romance then this book ticks those boxes.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.

As usual, action packed, a badass heroine who does not play the damsel in distress card, this serie is still good

Series: Team 52 #4
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Finally Blaire’s book!

Blair Mason is a former special forces Marine who barely survived her last mission. As part of Team 52 she never runs from a fight and ensures powerful ancient technology doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. Unfortunately that means she frequently has to work with Las Vegas Detective Luke MacKade, who ignites her temper quicker than any man she has ever known. Now she is being forced to work with him to find some missing samurai swords.

“I see all those tough layers of yours, Blair. I see them, and I’ve decided to cut through them and find what’s beneath.”

Detective Luke is a protective, possessive alpha male who realizes Blair is exactly what he needs in a woman. He is never intimidated by her, he never tries to change her, and he continues to support her and her job. These two were the perfect kickass couple who had intense and steamy chemistry.

“I want you to move in with me. I want to fight with you, love you, wake up with you every day in my bed.”

Blair is probably my favorite character from this series. I have a girl crush on this badass woman and I am not ashamed of it. Blair is smart, strong, and deadly. She keeps everyone emotionally distant though because she is afraid of losing anyone else in her. Luke has to break down her barriers and show her he is determined to be with her. He never gives up and shows her how much she means to him. I loved how determined he was to win her over.

Hackett has done another amazing job with this book and I can’t wait to start the next one. Ty hasn’t had a lot of page time yet so I can’t wait to learn more about him.

CW: mass death; PTSD; mentions of injuries and death of coworkers/friends during time in military; murder of a parent mentioned; death of a sibling mentioned

2.75✨ (rounded to 3 for GR)
1.5🌶️

🗡️ex-marine security agent FMC x law enforcement detective MMC
🗡️action adventure romance
🗡️hate-to-love
🗡️denying feelings
🗡️he falls first
🗡️have to work together as partners
🗡️deadly and powerful ancient weapons

The biggest couple build up and probably the biggest disappointment of the series yet. Perhaps not so much disappointment as compared to ambivalent.

The FMC Blair seemed to have one exaggerated character trait—strong woman™️. Every answer was brute force or some need to insist her physical abilities through the repeated use of that brute force, especially through starting or engaging in physical fights. This even occurs with the MMC Luke very well into the book, to the point where she’s still drawing blood or actively trying to cause damage. I understand being a character with a hard shell and hidden trauma, but there has to be layers of that evident to the reader.

Luke, the MMC, on the other hand, didn’t really have much of a personality at all. Pretty much a cardboard character.

And unfortunately, their romantic chemistry wasn’t above and beyond enough to successfully support the lackluster character energies.

The tension and buildup of this couple seemed to be better during the earlier books of the series, before their dedicated book.

Still absolutely going to continue the series though. The overarching plot is actually very interesting and well-used.

I liked that this has got a heroine who's more kick-ass than the hero. Although there was one scene that didn't quite make sense to me

Mission: Her Defense (Team 52, #4) has action, suspense, mystery, danger and romance and is just as good the second time reading as the first.

Sexy, alpha men and women who protect and find their someone. When someone evil wants to take over the world and ancient artifacts are involved so is Team 52.

A great read.

Блеър Мейсън и Люк Маккейд

description

Blair and Luke. Blaaaaair and Luuuuke! Heh. They do the "fighting as foreplay" thing and they do it well. Not to mention, Luke is waaaaay into watching Blair kick butt and take names. Or break bones. Or necks. Whatever. He likes that his lady can take care of herself.

It takes a while for Blair to come to terms with it, but she likes that he knows she can protect herself. She likes that he has her back. She's prickly and has a temper (and an appetite!), but the fact he accepts her for who she is goes a long way toward breaking down the walls she has up around her heart.

So. This time around, Team 52 is trying to track down some cursed samurai swords. You know, the type that turn people into unstoppable killing machines who like to shed blood. GOOD TIMES. Because these sort of things are never straightforward, there are a couple of shadowy organizations who also want (or want to keep) the swords in question.

As always, Team 52 is up to the task. *thumbs up*

‘Mission: Her Defense’ starts off as Kill Bill on steroids as cursed Japanese swords find themselves in the wrong hands, thus necessitating the need for Team 52 to step in. Though since it encroaches on Las Vegas Metropolitan Police turf, it means that Blair Mason and Luke Kincade cross paths (and later, body fluids) once again.

It’s not quite a rivalry between them that’s been sufficiently explained, but Blair/Luke’s fractious relationship is one that has been building for some time and is rather similar to Darcy Ward’s and Alastair Burke’s rival-to-lovers tale in the neighbouring ‘Treasure Hunter series’. Blair straddles the line between being fearless and foolhardy—the definition of bad-assery doesn’t necessarily have to extend to impulsively jumping into every fight scene—and there were too many moments when I thought ‘Slow down, woman, stop pushing away and stop being stupid!’ needed to be her mantra.

The story does start off awesomely exciting, though. With more blood-lust than the usual action blood-spilling scenes, incorporating mythology from Japanese sword-making, I was absorbed in the setup immediately, though it went a little flat for me later when the plausible scientific explanation that Hackett gave for the strange phenomenon occurring became a little too thick to swallow.

As with the typical Hackett read these days, there’s more than a hint of a quick slide into love (or lust?) before before both protagonists really get to know each other…but perhaps, the brevity of every story she puts out has made every pairing inevitably so, unless it has been one that has been hinted at over the course of several books. Still, I can’t deny that there are bits about Hackett’s other series that I miss more than her latest books, even if her imaginative writing is as strong as ever.

I do wonder why it is the badass heroines they are the more stubborn?
Is it because of the male chauvinism of our society, so a strong kick-ass woman has to rethink and overthink things before to let go, as she can’t combine strength and softness.
Blair is that kind of woman, she lets nobody in, she has her group of very close friends but refuses to add to it, afraid to suffer from more loss.
I confess it is not my kind of favorite heroine, I do admire stubbornness but not when it is bordering idiocy.
While I’m totally into Luke MacKade, he is a protector in the soul but accepts his woman as she is, ready to just stand beside her if she just needs it. And when he knows he has found his other half, he goes for her, ready to win her over even if she drives him mad.
Hopefully Mrs Anna Hackett erases Blair’s pigheadedness with a full-action story with few pauses to just come up for air.
Can’t wait for the next book.

Aaaaaaaaaaa, Ms. Hackett is awesome but I’ve had much much better with her...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, like I say in the title,I feel Ms.Hackett is an amazing writer but this was a miss for me...
I wanna say if you don’t care about romance you can still enjoy this for the action and the adventure, and you can but the plot was all there either in my opinion.
You see the swords are stolen originally by one person for one reason and then one ends up on another’s hands for yet another reason but those reasons aren’t truly explored or just didn’t make sense...
Possible ⚠️ spoilers ahead ⚠️

I.E. a fanatic type group gets one supposedly for power but it’s never made clear or explained as to how just killing more random ppl will get or give them said power. Soo after all the build up,I was like “What?” , “That’s it ?”

And as for the romance ?
I soo wasn’t feeling it.. Neither character ver felt quite real .
Blair . Blair felt like some superhero Bad A cliche, she’s willing to literally throw herself in to any dangerous situation that comes along to help safe someone in need w/never a thought to her own safety and moving in ways with abilities and such that with Susuper tech prosthetics or not act more like a made up super hero that a real person. Soo of course like all superhero cliches she’s no good w/relating with others except with snark or sarcasm and is terrified of “softer emotions”.
All that aside, we’re never really given a chance to know either of these two ppl ,it’s all either non-stop action,or arguing or at some where past 50% a little bit of sex but mostly non stop action chasing the sword.
Sure Blair has hard a rough go of it at times, and she did have a bad personal tragedy as a child but 20 years later we’re not given enough info for that to be making her the closed of danger junkie she soo is. Even though she’d never admit it.
Blair takes risks that just don’t make sense at times, it really felt like this was her movie and she was the star of the “superhero” show soo she always gotta be out in front taking all the chances and acting she’s six of the avengers all rolled up in one and she’s ten feet tall and bullet proof , while Luke just seemed to be there to do damage control and chase up from behind.
Like Blair was Wonder Woman or something ( not an avenger I know) and Luke was some second string just chasing after her.
I never got lost in this,I NEVER forgot I was reading a book.
Neither character felt real and no matter how hard or excited they may have gotten each other, since they just felt like shell’s I never got to know their relationship felt like it only existed because it was supposed to.
I kept waiting and hoping I’d connect with these two, they way they supposedly rubbed each other the wrong way looked like it would be exciting and interesting..
But honestly unless your looking for a woman how acts like a bad A superhero who only seems to know to throw herself into danger head first, snark and say “I’m hungry.” While she runs from “soft emotions” , I don’t really know what to recommend here..
The get a little bit of back story here and there at about 60% thru book on Blair, about 40% thru on Luke but we never really get to know them. For me they never got to be more than words on a page.
Ms. Hackett is great and I’d highly recommend either her new “EON” series or her Gladiator series, but this ?
Action and adventure that even with obviously thorough research didn’t make sense in the end and a romance that really wasn’t...

Nearly 4 Stars. Not my most favorite book in the TEAM 52 series so far, but I enjoyed it.
My rating guide: 1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= I MOSTLY Enjoyed it; 4= Yes, I LIKED IT A LOT; 5= I Loved it, it was great!

HER DEFENSE #4, TEAM 52 series by Anna Hackett.
TEAM 52 is called in while enjoying a rare night off together by Vegas Detective Luke McKade/MMC. A blood bath has occurred at a pre-event VIP dinner for a new visiting Samurai Exhibit. McKade wants the teams’ eyes and thoughts regarding the crazy disaster, but when they all arrive the perpetrator’s killing spree isn’t finished. And so Blair, Lachlan, Seth, and the other TEAM 52 members wade through the blood. Following the chaos, former Marine Force Recon and 2nd in Command of TEAM 52, excellently skilled hand-to-hand fighter, tall, blond Blair Mason/FMC is assigned to work closely with Detective McKade, as Vegas’ homicide unit and TEAM 52 work together to discover the mysterious nature of the 2 swords stolen from the Samurai exhibit, who took them, and what do they plan to do with the powerful ancient weapons.

HER DEFENSE is book #4 in Hackett’s TEAM 52, 8 book series featuring a Covert Black Ops team based near Area 51, NV. The members of TEAM 52 have accepted the duty of collecting and storing artifacts with para/unusual abilities lately being discovered worldwide, originally from unknown ancient civilizations. TEAM 52 is a Action-Adventure Romance series that follows the team as they travel and respond to related global emergencies and situations, safely disposing of the dangerous antiquities. HER DEFENSE, #4 is a Steamy Enemies to Lovers story that begins with a blood fight in Vegas and ends with a clean-up in Manhattan, NY. Readers that enjoy fast action, page-turning fiction with touches of humor might want to check out this title/series. Books #1 & #2 in this series were my favorites so far, but I still enjoyed HER DEFENSE, #4 and I look forward to continuing the adventure with the remaining members of the TEAM featured in each of the 4 books that follow.

HER DEFENSE can be read as a standalone title but since each book in the series features a different TEAM 52 member, the main characters from previous and latter books do overlap. HER DEFENSE was a quick reading, very fast Action-Adventure novel with independent, and capable women and honorable, former military and law enforcement alpha male characters that appreciate them. I appreciate the occasional Quirky humor that prevents Hackett’s novels from becoming too drama laden or angst-filled. Hackett has written a number of Action-Adventure-Romance series in Space Opera & Dystopian genres as well. TEAM 52 is the 5th Hackett Action-Adventure series I’ve read; they are all among my favorites. If you enjoy HER DEFENSE be sure to check out other works by Hackett.

*READER CAUTION - Readers who prefer only Clean fiction will want to look elsewhere. Not recommended for YAs.
VIOLENCE - Yes. Covert Spec Ops action. PG/PG-13.
PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language is used frequently.
SEXUAL SITUATIONS - Yes. The 2 main characters have a prior antagonist relationship that quickly develops into Steamy and detailed intimacy, ending with joint commitment and a HEA.

Like all of Anna Hackett's books, MISSION: HER DEFENSE starts off with a bang and the action never lets up. I love diving into Hackett's books and just getting swept up in all the action and romance.

I loved Blair from the first book of the series and I've been dying for her story because she's such a badass woman. Blair is smart, strong, and a serious threat in a fight -- I pretty much have a girl crush on her. Getting close to other people is hard for Blair because she's afraid to lose anyone else in her life, so she pushes away Luke anytime he gets too close. But Luke is determined and I loved that he never gave up on Blair.

Luke is the perfect possessive alpha and exactly what Blair needs in her life. Luke is never intimidated by Blair and he's not bothered by her strength, instead he supports her and believes in her. On top of that, Luke and Blair have amazing chemistry and these two were burning up my Kindle.

I'm loving the Team 52 books and I can't wait for Ty's book next because that little teaser about his story has me really intrigued!

It’s Valentine’s Day, which makes it a particularly appropriate day to post this review. Because a) it’s a romance and b) it’s by an author I absolutely love.

It would be perfect if it were my favorite genre by this author, science fiction romance, but c’est la vie. Like the song says, “Two out of three ain’t bad.”

The Team 52 series is a cross between action adventure romance and military romance. Because the members of Team 52 are nearly all ex-military, and the ones that aren’t are ex-CIA or something even more secretive. That’s certainly true in the case of our heroine, Blair Mason.

And like all of the other former military members of Team 52, Blair is ex-military not because she wanted to be, but because her last (and very nearly final) mission left her with injuries that made her ineligible to continue to serve.

But the high-tech advances kept under as many wraps as possible at Area 52 (yes, it’s next door to the place you’re thinking of) gave her back her eye, and her sight, even better than before. It’s just that if you learn the details of either her last mission, her current status, or just how it was done, she’d probably have to kill you.

Unless one of her teammates gets there first.

The Team 52 series contains some of the earthbound elements of Stargate SG-1. Occasionally, although it’s starting to feel like not-so-occasionally, someone or something unearths powerful and dangerous technology leftover from surprisingly highly developed pre-Ice Age civilizations.

And that’s where Team 52 comes in. Because when these extremely dangerous devices come to light, there’s usually one or more villainous organizations who want to do very dark deeds with those devices.

So Team 52 swoops in to clean up the resulting mess.

But someone has to clean up their mess in a way that provides plausible explanations for the press and the public. It’s hard to completely cover up an entire ballroom full of dead bodies in the middle of a major city. A city like Las Vegas.

That’s where Detective Luke MacKade of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department comes in. It’s his job to make Team 52’s mess appear less messy to the powers that be and the noses that snoop. It’s not his only job, and it’s certainly not his favorite part of his job. He’s in the LVMPD for the “serve and protect” parts of the job and he’s convinced that all Team 52 does in come in and make his job harder without regard for the civilians who get caught in the crossfire.

His favorite part of the job seems to be riling up Blair Mason – even if he’s not willing to admit it.

But when one of their dangerous artifacts cuts a literal swath through his city, he gets an up close and person look at exactly what Team 52 does and why somebody has to do it.

And he finally manages to get close enough to Blair Mason to get an up close and personal view of the woman hiding under the prickly, badass exterior. And he wants to see a whole lot more.

Escape Rating A-: As far as this reader is concerned, the Team 52 series is back in fine form with this entry – even though I still think the titles are slightly cheesy.

I loved the first book (Mission: Her Protection), liked the second (Mission: Her Rescue) and thought the third (Mission: Her Security) was ok. This one is back to “love” on my list. I think because the focus is on Blair more than it is Luke.

What can I say, I like it when the heroine is every bit as badass, if not a bit more, than the hero. I also felt for her perspective of feeling like she needed to be all badass all the time in order to be respected by her teammates. And that the hero isn’t merely ok with that, but loves her and respects her for the badass she is and doesn’t need or want her to be anything else.

While her teammates respect her as she is, that she was socialized that way because the rest of the world doesn’t makes perfect sense.

One of the things that I love about this author’s work is the way that it so often ties into one or more of my other geekish interests. As I keep saying, this series, and the Treasure Hunter Security series it spun off of, have elements of Stargate.

The macguffin in this particular book are antique Japanese swords crafted by Muramasa, the rival of the legendary swordmaker Gorō Nyūdō Masamune. There are surviving Masamune swords in museums and private collections, but Muramasa appears to be more legendary than historical. I found this element of the story particularly fascinating because it tied in to my longstanding love for all things Final Fantasy X, where there is a sword Masamune named after the legendary but historical swordsmith and carried by the game’s resident badass.

I digress, but that’s what Team 52 does to me. It makes me digress into other geekish loves. Which is part of its charm, at least for me.

It’s awesome action-adventure/military romance, so if either of those are your jam, spread open the pages of this series!

This one was okay. It's always dicey when the heroine of the story has been established as a totally self-sufficient badass in previous books. A lot of authors struggle with either having to nerf the heroine in her own story so that her designated hero doesn't look like a total pansy in comparison, or they turn the previously smart heroine into a reckless idiot in order to still put her in danger. And this story did a bit of both. It's not the worst example I've seen, but it was still irritating.

And, in the grand tradition of this series, the bad guys' actions make ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. With this perhaps being the most egregious example to date.

What I Liked: From a romance perspective, I preferred this book to the previous ones in the series. I think having Blair be a completely different type of character than a lot of the other heroines allowed for a nice change in dynamic between the main couple. The fact she could protect herself probably better than Luke could protect her was a good change and I think it did improve the book overall. Having read a lot of Hackett’s books in rapid succession, a lot of the relationships began to feel the same, but this one was more interesting. They had good chemistry, a lot of sexual tension, and their push and pull felt a bit more natural. I liked that they
It was also exciting a lot of the time - the action sequences worked well and there were some good, tense bits.
What I Didn’t: Again, I thought the pacing was a little off towards the end - it wrapped up and then there was more setting up for the next book, which felt like it dragged on a little bit.
I also wasn’t so keen on the suspense plotline beyond a certain point.
Overall: It’s a good fun book like the others in the series and makes some good changes from previous works to keep things interesting, but it would have been nice to
Would I Recommend It?: Yes, if you want a fun and engaging romantic suspense novel with some paranormal elements and an enemies-to-lovers dynamic.
Would I Read Something By The Author Again?: Yes.

Up until Mission: Her Defense we've only met Luke McCade a few times. He's a beleaguered LVMPD dectective who's often tasked with cleaning up after Team 52. They may be the best at what they do but they do make a mess at times. More often than not, his exchanges are with Blair Mason and let's just say they aren't exactly filled with sunshine and flowers. Now in Mission: Her Defense, Luke and Blair are assigned to work together...hang on to your hats cuz it's going to be a bumpy ride. The next to last three chapters in this book are intense, fast paced, hard hitting and fraught with danger. I dare you not to gasp as events unfold.

What you see is what you get with Blair. She's tough, seemingly fearless and not just a fighter but a brawler. She's Lahlan Hunter's best friend and his second in command. Though she'd deny it to her last breath she's attracted to Luke. He's every inch by the book, straight laced law enforcement officer, a protector and a man who takes care of his people. You'd have to be blind not to notice how he continuously tracks Blair whenever they're in each other's vicinity. Amei... Bjs...

Really split on this book. Half really good, half nuts.

Hmm I really can’t decide whether I like this book or not. At least she didn’t get abducted!

Blair is a member of team 52. As the team sometimes causes chaos on the streets, they work with detective Luke Macabe. Luke thinks Blair is really annoying and vice versus. When two rare Japanese knives are used in a massacre the team work with the police to stop the remaining sword from being used.
Blair is really prickly, doesn’t like being treat as a woman, but doesn’t like men being intimidated by her either. When the danger ramps up so does the sexual tension between them.

There’s a few parts of the book that really annoyed me. Blair is fighting with a knife man and he’s super strong and has taken down a swot team but her team are just stood around watching her!!! No way!!! And Blair on her own brings him down when so many men failed???? 😂😂 Yes of course!
Blair is attacked in her home and they beat her up but then leave her after finding out no information?
And I’m not even going to get started on the stupid plot at the end.

Anyway, the romance is good as he woos her, and I really liked his character, and parts of Blair.

ACTION - DANGER - SIZZLING PASSIONATE ROMANCE

MISSION: HER DEFENSE takes you on a journey into the lives of Team 52 who find and secure ancient items that are a danger to society.

This story focuses on Blair Mason who is a Team 52 member. She is not only a sassy beauty but a powerful force. Hot Homicide Detective Luke MacKade is committed to protecting all that he cares for and his city. Blair and Luke have been battling wits for quite some time and now they are working together to secure deadly ancient swords. While they face horrific danger their attraction grows. Their chemistry runs deeper than a river but Luke needs to move with caution to break down the walls that surround Blair's heart.

THRILLING read that is action-packed. The suspense had my heart pounding and the passionate romance sizzles. The humor and the camaraderie between Team 52 is awesome. I loved Blair and Luke together as they make a perfect couple. Finding this to be a most entertaining read; {I reviewed on a voluntary basis without any compensation or any stipulations of what I should write in my review.}

Awesome Series!

Anna Hackett is a one click author for me but that being said, this was still a great book. Blair & MacKade have been striking sparks off of each other since book one! Since she’s the #2 on Team 52, Blair is stuck liaising with MacKade, a detective on the Vegas PD. In this book, you learn about Blair’s past & the circumstances that have made her the woman she is. Then there’s MacKade, lol, who Blair doesn’t call by his first name Luke until later in the book, so hot! His past is just as painful & drives him to be the great detective that he is. This book had one of the best lines I’ve ever read & it was of course about badass Blair! Luke’s team just saw her take a guy down in a spectacular fashion & they are all commenting on it when one of Luke’s detectives said “I’d consider leaving my husband for her”! I snort laughed at that line, it was hilarious! The chemistry between Blair & Luke is through the roof & Luke is a man who knows what he wants & goes for it. The dirty talk that man does with Blair (fanning myself remembering), wow! I highly recommend this book & can’t wait for the next book about the tech guy Ty.

Samurai

This exciting addition to the Team 52 series features former Marine, Blair, a hard charging fighting machine, and Luke, a LVPD detective who gives her grief. Luke usually cleans up the messes left behind after Team 52 ops in Las Vegas, but gains a new appreciation for what the Team faces when a Samurai exhibit comes to a LV casino and a cursed Samurai sword created by an insane swordmaker possesses an exhibit guest. Blair is assigned to work with Luke in tracking down the two katanas stolen during the resulting carnage, forcing the two to work together to prevent additional deaths. But the identity of the person behind the theft is buried under layers and bodies continue to surface as another player after the swords enters the scene. Blair and Luke will have to work closely together to find and stop the swords and their wielders, forcing them to reevaluate their perceptions about each other and the work they do.

I loved this KU library selection and am looking forward to the next book, Ty's story.

Mission: Her Defense is Team 52's fourth book and explores the attraction between Blair Mason and Luke MacKade, Homicide Detective with LVPD. Luke is Team 52's go to on Las Vegas Police Department; he takes over when the Team can't stick around and explain the unexplainable when it strikes Los Vegas. Blair finds Luke an irritant and the pair frequently butt heads over procedure and need to know.

An exclusive exhibit of Samurai and other Japanese artifacts is unveiled in a newly opened Las Vegas casino/hotel. The star of the exhibit is a collection of Samurai Katana made by a legendary sword-smith, Muramasa. The Katana are believed to be cursed, believed to demand blood and turn the user of the Katana into a crazed maniac who kills everyone until the one holding the swords commits suicide. Despite the precautions taken, the Katana are stolen and a blood-bath draws the Team into the hunt.

Luke and Blair are teamed up to chase the clues and recover the swords. Blair and Luke are faced with the attraction and having to really get to know one another.

Badass Blair

Well, she’s done it again! AH has delivered a fast moving, action packed romance in which we see Blair meet her match in the scrumptious Luke! Blair is ex Special Forces and a member of Team 52.
Luke is a detective in the LVPD who is ‘always cleaning up their messes’! Luke is also a very hot looking guy, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s intelligent to boot!
In this book the team are called in when a guest at a Samurai exhibition takes one of the Katanas on display and promptly starts massacring people! By the time Team 52 get there all the guests, the security on the exhibition and a full SWAT team are dead! Blair is not happy when leader Lachlan allocates her as the liaison with the LVPD with Luke as her contact!
Along with following up leads on the original crime, fighting her attraction to Luke and fighting off personal attacks on herself, Blair is not in a good place.
This is an adult romance and filled with violence and bad language so be warned.

Exciting and Sexy!

I thought Lachlan and Rowan was my favorite story, but the action and storyline in this book blew my mind. Just say "cursed swords and Samurais" and I am all in. I found it hard to put down. I am always drawn to the action and badass characters. The sexy scenes are icing on the badass cake! Blaire and Luke are a mess made in heaven! The comment that stood out and made me wince was when Luke said that Blaire was so hardass she could "cut a man and make him bleed. No wonder you're still single." I had to stop reading and wavy my finger "Oh no you didn't?!!!" I also screamed for joy when Luke decided he would keep fighting for the love of his "Cupcake!" The sexual tension between the two was awesome, especially the first scene in Luke's bedroom...HOT!!! Anne Hackett has a way of luring readers through a series by providing tidbits at the end of each book. I cannot stop reading because I want to see what happens next. Well, moving on to Book 5.

Blair and Mac! Blair may have a prosthetic eye but she is still keeping both eyes on Mac, who possibly could give AAA from THS a run for his money in the smoking hot LEO market!

Blair is used to being respected by her team but she sometimes forgets she is also a beautiful woman with a snarky sense of humour! Mac, however, seems to manage to ignite every nerve ending she has, not all of them in a nice way!

With some ancient swords on the loose, with some very serious homicide-inducing effects, they are going to have to work together.

Lots of humour, snarky dialogue and a huge dose of camaraderie. I so enjoy these romps with Team 52. I have a new hobby of logging all of Brooks T-shirts too! (I failed on this one and have to hand back by Star Wars Fan badge! :( ) Ty is next up and I'm so looking forward to watching him fall!
