Dirtier Duet #1

His Demand

Rate this book
Gabe Maxwell is a powerhouse in the boardroom, a man with a dark past he's buried under success and power. He's not a white picket fence and forever kind of guy and he's definitely not into redheads. That is until one corners him, kisses him and thanks him for waking her up. Right before she walks away and leaves him. She's gone and he's obsessed.

Then she walks into his office and back into his life, and he has to have her. It doesn't matter that she's the kind of woman you marry. It doesn't matter that she's everything he avoids because she's everything he wants.

Only Abbie isn't the good girl she seems. She has secrets and a past and soon, she'll pull Gabe into her bed, her life, and that spells more than obsession. It spells danger.

We all remember Gabe from Reid's books.

His Demand & Her Submission can be read as a complete standalone duet - but I suggest you read the Dirty Rich series in the right order - all very adorable and sexy and exciting books! ☺

We loved Gabe from the moment we met him as Reid's brother. He's this mysterious & sexy lawyer. And that's all we know.

Now we get to hear his story. And it's really sexy and exciting!

He's a one night kind of guy. He will never fall in love and get married like his brother. Things happened in his past that he does not want to relive.

But then he sees this redhead at a bar and he's ... smitten!

Abbie has some very serious and even dangerous legal problems - good thing she just met one of the best lawyers in New York.

Both have some secrets they're not yet telling ...

_________________

I really adored this story.

I was waiting for Gabe's book for so long and now here it is!

It starts sexy and exciting and it kind of never stops being sexy and exciting and mysterious and suspensy!

Also - lots of adorable puppy moments!

It was a bit too much back and forth. I stopped counting the times Abbie wanted to run away. Ugh!

Why don't people in books just TALK to each other. If they would just talk about everything - all the secret shit - it would never be as bad is it is once the lies are revealed later on in the stories.
I hate secrets and those two just got on my nerves with all their secrets!
Without those stupid secrets and without the constant repeat of Abbie's running or not running arguments - these two books could've / should've been only one book! BUT - we all know that Lisa loves writing ALL THE WORDS. ☺ And we will always read them!

BUT - I still really liked the story and I loved Gabe - I can't wait to get my hands on book #2!!!!

HIS DEMAND was a very sexy & exciting romance full of adorable puppies!
Run to your nearest amazon for your own Gabe - this one is MINE!!!☺

Gabe is back! He seemed the easy going brother in previous books of the Dirty series. He was anything but easy going in this one. I think we are finally going to learn what has made Gabe a forever playboy. That is until Abbie came into his life.

Both Gabe and Abbie have some pretty messed up pasts but they are not revealed in this book. This was the start of their relationship that jumps right into the action of Abbies Ex and Gabe's fathers manipulations.

There is a lot of relationship angst to start. With the trust issues these two have, it takes them some time to realize that even if they don't know how to trust, they still can't seem to stay away from each other. That's the kind of angst I don't mind in my stories because they stay together as they work through it.

This does end on a pretty big cliffhanger that has me wondering how this will effect their relationship. I think these two will learn they are more like each other than they think.

It is very rare that I run across a story by Lisa Renee Jones where I don’t fall in love with both of characters. Book 1 of the Dirtier Duet, His Demand, is no different. Gabe and Abigail are outrageously electric together.

Secrets abound in this story. Abbie’s secrets. Gabe’s secrets. Secret phone calls that may result in ending one of Abbie’s problems. But, who’s phone call did it? We’ll have to wait for Her Submission to find out. In the meantime, we will have to make do knowing that the two of them belong together and will, hopefully, find their way to an HEA.

Both Gabe and Abbie are so very well written. You could feel his arrogance yet sweet spots throughout the story. Abbie is a little harder pill to swallow. She keeps trying to run, to push Gabe away to “protect” him. But, I think she is just trying to protect herself from him and the feelings that he stirs in her. Gabe, at least, is owning up to his feelings, riding both the highs and lows and just accepting things for what they are. It’s time for Abbie to do the same.

I loved that we saw a lighter side of Gabe even when he was being so demanding. The story line with the no-kill animal shelter was so beautifully written and is playing an important role throughout the story.

It’s truly unbelievable that this woman, time and time again, knows just how to draw a picture and put you in the middle of all the action. She doesn’t hold back on what her characters are feeling or willing to do for the other. They are in-depth and open. And, she knows how to keep a secret and keep her readers turning page after page to try and figure it out. Lisa Renee Jones weaves a web throughout her stories and, just like a spider, draws her victims in and keeps them there until she is good and ready to release them. And, while doing all of that, she writes sex scenes that scorch the pages and extremely erotic. A great read by a wonderful author that will keep you entranced in her stories.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so disconnected from characters created by the amazing storyteller that is Lisa Renee Jones. Every novel I’ve read of hers had always filled me with suspense and thrills and raised my body temperature to all time highs; however, I didn’t experience any of that with Gabe and Abigail’s story.

For me, there wasn’t much “meat” to the story. I ended up stopping with just a few chapters left of their story. So much time was spent on Abigail being wishy-washy with her feelings for Gabe. Their connection was instant and extremely fast-paced and Gabe was all in from the get go and it felt like he was spending the whole time trying to calm her and reassure her he would help. One minute she’s thinking of ways to walk away to “keep him safe” and the next she’s “melting” into him from a kiss; which was his go to response to get her to chill. And even with so much of the story having passed, still nothing serious had happened. I was always waiting for the next page to bring about whatever big bad was coming that would amp up the story line but ultimately I had to decide how badly I wanted to know and how much longer I was willing to wait.

I’m a HUGE fan of Lisa Renee Jones which is why I fought so hard to keep going, but in the end His Demand wasn’t giving me the feels I’ve become accustomed to when reading her stories.

Gabe doesn’t get do involvements with women. But when his first brief meeting with Abbie only fuels his desire for more, he takes full advantage of his next meeting. Soon he’s doing all he can to persuade her to stay the night. Unfortunately, there are forces at work against Abbie that threaten no only herself but anyone who is close to her. She’s in deep with Gabe but now she has to take steps to protect him.

While we are not given the exact details of Abbie’s past or what threat she feels she must protect Gabe from, the fear is evident. Despite yielding to Gabe’s persuasion to allow him to help her, she’s a strong heroine who isn’t used to relying on anyone. Gabe’s past holds a secret that has boxed him into a place where he doesn’t do relationships and that when once revealed will show him in a dark light. He’s keeping that from Abbie and along with all the things unsaid the tension in this story just mounts higher.

This author really knows how to build a storyline and keep it going. I loved this beginning of Gabe and Abbie’s relationship and I’m so curious to learn how everything is going to work out. I need to know all their secrets as well as how they’re going to react to those revelations between them. This ends with one kicker of a cliffhanger that I didn’t see coming from a mile away. Now I’m completely lost as to where this story is going to take us as it’s strayed so far from predictability. I love that!

While well written, it does have a slower pace to it. The steam level is high and the chemistry believable. Some of the secondary characters are new but we also see some of the favorites from other books. Overall, this is an extremely enjoyable read with a mild angst level as this couple struggle with outer forces even while holding fast to their own secrets.

This story was incredibly captivating, extremely intriguing and very steamy! It had a good level of suspense, intensity, good character development, a dash of fear and a lot of fun.

— The writing was really good and sucked me straight into the story without a moments hesitation!
— The characters were okay. I can’t say I was a huge fan of either of the main characters; I felt simply indifferent towards them, and their romance was way too insta-love for my liking. It didn’t feel like they had any platform to build a proper relationship from and that was honestly a let down for me.
— I had many issues with Gabe’s constant “I’ll f**k you without Vaseline”:.. I just didn’t care for what it implied.
— I appreciated his protectiveness to a point, but felt that he was being too alpha-male, but I personally don’t care too much for alpha-males so that may be personal preference.
— LOTS OF DOGS! I love books with dogs; it adds a lot to the story for me. Especially when a lot of the story surrounds it.
— Well written sex... I’m a goner when it comes to well written sex, and this definitely had it! It had me a little hot under the collar and I will never complain about that, it’s just what I want from a novel in this genre!
— Undeniable sexual chemistry between these two, it was written in a way that is completely palpable and the tension between them was massively intense. I just wish that had been explored a little more first before they started falling for one another.
— The plot had me desperately turning pages so that I could find what on earth was going on! I didn’t feel lost throughout, kept up nicely and found the tension to be building well. The suspense was added bit by bit which kept me thoroughly tugged into the story.
— Can we TALK about that ending please?! What was that?! I needed another chapter!

This book was overall good! The writing was good, interesting, intriguing, and had me yearning for more — I just had to know what happened! I would definitely recommend this if you like a steamy, dramatic, intense story with a lot of alpha-male goodness! If the synopsis interests you, go for it because it’s well worth the read! Despite everything I’ve pointed out and my average rating, I really am glad I read this and thoroughly enjoyed the reading experience! I do love a book that gets me on the edge of my seat!

His Demand was a deliciously sexy start to a duet of books featuring Gabe and Abigail, two attorneys who heat up the pages while staying one step ahead of their nemesis. But a surprising twist in the final paragraphs had me wondering if one of them is hiding something sinister.

Lisa Renee Jones has quickly become a favorite of mine when I want an erotic-edged romance full of secrets and a complex storyline. And I was so happy to see she created this duet of books (in late April we’ll get the conclusion, Her Submission) all about Gabe Maxwell, the dashing brother of Reid Maxwell who we’ve come to know and love in Dirty Rich Obsession. There was something about Gabe that piqued my interest beyond his charm and sexy smile... Read More

With His Demand, Lisa Renee Jones begins her Dirtier Duet with the story of rich and powerful Gabe Maxwell who vowed to never commit until a beautiful redhead unexpectedly kisses him, thanks him, proceeds to leave and take his heart in the process.

Gabe fell in obsessed lust with Abbie before even knowing her name and was unreservedly determined to not let her go when she shows up at the bar they’d met before. She’s not there to kiss him again, she’s there to ask for his firm’s help, but Gabe’s desire towards her is unyielding and soon they’re burning up the sheets. However, Abbie’s troubles can’t be ignored and even though they seem unsurmountable to her, Gabe is resolute in helping her and keeping her safe no matter how many secrets they’re both hiding.

Right from the start, Abbie and Gabe’s attraction is as big as the barriers they hide behind. Even though they pledge to work through the problems they’re faced with together, Abbie is clearly not on board with Gabe wanting to take care of and protect her muddying their fledgling relationship with lack of trust. Add to that the fact that Gabe’s favorite way of convincing her to agree with him is via seduction – granted their sexy times are sizzling hot – as opposed to open, honest communication, and we get a lot of recurring push and pull but very little forward motion.

Gabe is an alluring character that had me hooked from the start and intrigued about his past. Even though the story felt a bit repetitive, Gabe’s close to perfect persona, their passion and the twist at the end grabbed my attention for what’s to come.

His Demand is book #1 of the Dirtier Duet by author Lisa Renee Jones. It is a contemporary romance, told from both points of view with a cliffhanger.

I must say I love love love this author and I have read all of her works and its pretty hit and miss depending on the MC’s role. I didn’t care for the protective service roles of the last series and this series didn’t have too much involvement in it and Gabe was a lawyer. This book gave me serious Deja vu so I am quite unsure If we have been introduced to Abigail and her plot of land before but I swear there was some serious foreshadowing. What broke me down from this book in terms of loving it is actually ( don’t yell at me) the amount of sex that occurs. I love my sex like I love milk in my tea (a ton) but this was crazy insta and just sex all over the damn place. This book takes place I believe over 3-4 days and within one day before the sun has set they have had sex at least 7 days and he has decidedly fallin in love with Abbie and she is his. I understand this isn’t a standalone but there are somewhat in the world moments
Gabe is a typical alpha male and omg if Gabbie could be MORE ANNOYING AND ROADKILL PUSHOVER It would be incredible.

The book ends in a cliffy which is the authors go to.. so please don’t bash her for that!

Gabe Maxwell is so much more than he allows the world to see. His emotions are a bottomless pit. It's his complications that make him an intriguing character. His Demand starts to unlock the mystery that is Gabe Maxwell, business extraordinaire and expose the broken man underneath the subterfuge. It's easy to dislike him, unless you understand him. Jones removes the blinders and shines a light on the vulnerabilities that make the man. Pain makes him dangerous, loves makes him lethal and we ain't seen nothing yet. The man of ice is about to melt your heart, even as he loses his own.

No rating because I only got to the 3rd chapter..... but if I could rate it, it would get -30 stars.

This is a better known author right? Like some of her books are best sellers right? I honestly wouldn't know because none of her previous books ever appealed to me.... and now I know why I should have continued to stay away

cause * h o l y * * m o l y *

the writing was atrocious. How does this have a 4.4 star rating?!?!!

"I walk down the street with an ancient wound in my heart. I dont wanna walk anymore so I hail a cab. I get to my office in ten minutes. I look out the window and I'm suddenly sad. I wanna get a dog but it would die eventually and I cant handle things that die. So I wont get a dog. I just need to fuck someone to get my angst out." - the deep inner musings of the hero.

This isnt an actual quote from the book but it might as well have been.
Every. single. sentence began with I. Does this author have the writing skills of a 1st grader?!?! The writing was so bad it actually made me angry. I want my half hour back!

And on top of shitty writing, you get an introduction to the most basic, shallow male lead character ever. In the first two pages you learn the 'hero' just likes to fuck. He wants the women he sleeps with to be smart but doesnt give them the time of day after he fucks them. So freaking unoriginal I wanted to cry.

Hey Lisa Jones,
Get a new job.
Sincerely,
A reader with standards.

You can see this and other Reviews I have written along with various cover reveals, excerpts, and giveaways here Nadine's Obsessed with Books

When I started this book I wasn't sure what to expect because each of Lisa Renee Jones' books have a touch of suspense or an air of mystery to them, would it be something from his past that wreaked havoc on them or would it be hers, or would it be something totally different altogether?

If you have read any of the Dirty Rich series you may already know Gabe, his sister, Cat, got her HEA with Reese in Dirty Rich One Night Stand and his brother Reid met his Happily Ever After, Carrie, in Dirty Rich Obsession. While Gabe is happy for his siblings he knows he will never settle down and have children, it's just not in the cards for him....something his past has taught him. Well that may have been true at one point but that was before he met Abbie.

Abbie has her own set of problems though and getting involved with super dominant control freak Gabe isn't going to help one bit...well, that's what she thinks anyway. Abbie left her cheating and controlling husband of five years just about a year ago but the man just can't take a hint. But now that Gabe is in the picture maybe he will...HA! Anyway, we uncover some secrets in this story but there are much more to unfold in the next book. There's more to Gabe than meets the eye, and Abbie is definitely keeping her secrets close tho the chest.

His Demand left us with a whopper of a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to get my hands on Her Submission to see what happens next. Lisa Renee Jones has a way of gripping you and not letting you go until the very last word and when it's over I find myself looking for more and not wanting it to end.

Happy Reading!!!

I don't know if it's me or what but I was way over this story quickly. I'm simply not a fan of insta-especially the ones that take place within a 24 hour time period. Now, some insta has worked for me but not this one. So if you aren't an insta fan or lover run don't walk to your next read.

This dominant billionaire who doesn't believe in anything other than fucking falls in love at first sight. It takes all of a few hours of the couple being in each others presence for his song and dance to change. And she's fighting a nasty ex, also a billionaire, who cheated and treated her badly, so you know she's supposed to be avoiding that road. Which didn't even come close to happening.

Maybe if there was something more than surface to these two I could see it, or get but hind it. But there is no depth to them. No building of character. Nothing of importance to show me why he was the one or she was the one. The only thing I saw when it came to our MCs was that they liked to get down and dirty, frequently.

Abbie and Gabe just didn't do anything for me. Abbie was wishy washy-decide what you are going to do, chick and stick with it. It got a little tiresome watching her indecisiveness. Should I stay or should I go? Should I protect him or should I take what I want? Yada. Yada. Gabe, well he was the typical billionaire we find in romance books. You know the "Me Tarzan, Jane Mine" type. He was set on this red headed chick (mind you he isn't very fond of redheads) from the first kiss. He wasn't going to let her go. She was now his and he was steadfast in that.

Besides the whole insta (why do I do this to myself. I need to read reviews before requesting books), the book was beyond repetitive. I skimmed quite a bit and still knew what was going on.

Anyway, it has been years since I've read this author and I should have kept it that way. Insta is her thing, which isn't her fault that's not my cup of tea. That's mine. I can't give her low ratings due to something I don't like. The low rating was for the lack of depth, the superficial characters, and the repetitiveness.

At this point, I am divorcing Ms. Jones.

Let me begin by saying that I really enjoy Lisa Renee Jones' writing style. I've read quite a few of her books and found them very enjoyable. His Demand showed promise, but for some reason, fell flat for me. I felt like it was teetering right there but something was missing. I had difficulty connecting with the characters, especially Abbie. Even though Gabe was domineering and did everything to the extreme, I somewhat understood him. I absolutely did not understand her at all. I believe that part of my issue with this book may have been that I felt their romance was too rushed. There are certain situations where I can buy into insta-love. I understand its necessity in novellas and when it's done well or I see the value as it relates to the storyline, I can embrace it in full-length books. However, in this book, it just didn't work for me. Given that it is a duet, I think there was plenty of time to develop a more solid relationship between the two. Of course, this is just my personal opinion. It may not be my favorite book but I am curious enough about what happens to read the next book in the duet.

“She’s mine tonight and I will have all of her.”

It’s the kiss that changes EVERYTHING in HIS DEMAND by Lisa Renee Jones, the first spectacular book in her new Dirtier Duet! We first met Gabe Maxwell in the Dirty Rich series—he is the charming, funny, roguishly sexy brother of Reid and Cat--but as it turns out, there is MUCH MORE to this big, blond hottie than meets the eye!

THE PREMISE:
The story begins with Gabe, a powerful commanding attorney and ETERNAL BACHELOR, going out for a drink the night after Reid and Carrie get hitched. He is nursing his favorite whiskey and catches the eye of a gorgeous redhead named Abbie across the dimly lit bar. They share an instant mutual attraction that catches them both off guard. After he prowls after her, Abbie plants a smoldering kiss on his lips, but she takes off before he can take things further. However, Gabe can’t get the sexy siren off his mind and luck is on his side when fate brings them together yet again when she shows up at his law office a few days later needing help. She is looking for Reid, hoping he’ll take her case, but since his bro’s off on his honeymoon, Gabe tells her HE’S more then up for the job!

As it turns out, Abigail Tanner, a fellow attorney, is embroiled in a treacherous situation that could put her and those around her in grave danger. Of course that rouses the ferocious alpha caveman in Gabe, and he will do anything to keep this beautiful, fiercely independent divorcee safe! But even though Gabe’s firm takes her on as their newest client, Abbie frets that this handsome, amazing man she's started to fall for will get caught in the crossfire. However, he refuses to back down from this fight. Or from the hypnotic pull between them that cannot be denied! As passion explodes between Gabe and Abbie, and they find themselves ensnared in a perilous web of danger, deceit and betrayal, can they trust their hearts--and their most closely guarded secrets--with each other? Or will they only destroy each other in the end?

MY MUSINGS:
Lisa Renee Jones cast her bewitching spell on my heart once again! She made me fall HEAD OVER FREAKING HEELS in love with another delicious power couple in HIS DEMAND, a sizzling romantic suspense tale that’s teeming with passion, intrigue, danger and subterfuge. This book hits the ground running from page one, immediately sweepings readers up in Gabe and Abbie’s irresistibly seductive romance. As always there’s crossover from familiar faces from the Dirty Rich and Walker Security series which makes the story even more enticing. Plus dog lovers will especially enjoy this storyline, which involves an animal shelter, and a "killer" German Shepherd named Dexter who brings out the softer side of Gabe!

Speaking of which...while we THOUGHT we knew who Gabe Maxwell was from his previous appearances, it was just scratching the surface of what makes this devilishly charming alpha tick! In this first heart-gripping installment of the Dirtier duology, we come to learn that there are so many exciting, mysterious facets to this rich, charismatic attorney who may have initially comes across as a player but in truth he is uber complicated and has some deep seated emotional wounds that never quite healed.

Sighhh…Gabe is so powerfully—POTENTLY—male and he is a man who thrives on control. He can be cutthroat but also so funny and romantic and protective too. And I loved EVERY PART OF HIM. The strength and the vulnerability, the predatory sexual dominant and the sweet, playful, doting lover. Gabe falls fast and hard for Abbie, so hard in fact that he would walk over hot flames to possess—and protect--this feisty woman who is starting to make him rethink his stance on love, permanence and happily ever after

“I’m f*cked up and ten shades of trouble, but damn it, I’m all in with you. Be all in with me.”

Apparently, he’s not the only one who's been burned badly or who has devastating secrets locked up deep inside. For as it turns out the gorgeous redhead who Gabe’s losing his elusive heart to is equally damaged. Perhaps even more so, courtesy of her evil, vindictive ex. Abigail’s a beautiful contradiction—equal parts sass and sweetness, aching vulnerability and sultry confidence—and Gabe wants her in a BAD way! But convincing his skittish, temperamental lover not to run is far from a fait accompli.

I’ve said this before but it bears repeating: LRJ sure knows how to craft a romantic suspense tale that keeps us BREATHLESS for more. The fast-burning chemistry between Abbie and Gabe is INTOXICATING, and the raw intensity of this couple left me truly spellbound! There is palpable friction, searing emotional discord, sizzling sexual tension and combustible sparks between this duo throughout---and each and every time these two lovers hit the sheets it’s SEISMIC! Their red hot erotic interludes are wickedly torrid and alluringly sensual, with a dash of yummy kink thrown in, and you WILL need a cold shower in the sweaty aftermath!

But trust is a bone of contention between these two tempestuous lovers, and we have yet to uncover all the secrets that have propelled Abbie to run from her past or what happened with the mysterious “KM” to make Gabe so cynical of love, family and happily ever after. All these unknowns certainly added a plethora of intrigue, but to be honest, I did get a bit fed up with Abbie for constantly pushing Gabe away and acting so wishy washy about her feelings towards him. And I also wanted them to both stop dancing around the secrets they are both hiding. However, on the flip side, all this fiery push-pull sure did build blistering tension!

So, you better BUCKLE IN TIGHT because you are in for a wild ride that culminates in a SHOCKING cliffy that will of course have you screaming for book two!

BOTTOM LINE:
HIS DEMAND is a rapturously sexy first installment in the Dirtier Duet which enthralls, titillates and keeps us guessing from start to finish!

Reviewed on http://bookaddict.live,
My god Lisa has done it again, got me gripped and excited to be reading the story. Them suddenly it is the end. I knew it was a duet, but it was full of action in and outside the bedroom. This is Gabe Maxwell’s story and completely standalone, but we met some of characters from other books. We met Gabe plenty of times always as the laid back brother of the Maxwell clan, but always knowing there was something painful from his past, but his a good guy at heart.
Gabe has fallen Abbie real fast straight after Reid’s wedding. Abbie meets Gabe and they both know it’s more than a one night stand, they seemed to connect straight away.
This is told in duel pov’s so we follow both characters we how things develop. Lisa’s female leads are always strong in there own right. I felt much closer to Gabe after reading this book, maybe because I felt I knew him better. He is HOT and I couldn’t resist him. A gripping first book in the Filthier Duet. Now I’m waiting for Her Submission to find out what happens.

A fast-paced read, with an interesting male character and a spitfire redhaired that are mixed together perfectly by the author.
I liked their instant chemistry and all their sexy moments which were very well done by the author and left me panting at times.
A few twists and turns that remind us why it's always important to be honest and say the truth always even if you don't know and trust the person next to you.
There are questions that need answers and I'm sure the next book in the duet will be the same exhilarating read and the love story between Gabe and Abbi will find that happy place that deserves for two tormented souls that are discovering true love together.

3.5-3.75 stars. Quickie review- I liked this book, but I think I like this author's standalone books more. In her trilogies and duets, especially in this book, there is too much back and forth wishy-washiness. I really like this story and this couple, but I feel like these books need editing down badly. There is a lot of drama without much resolution. Still, I definitely enjoyed this book and I look forward to the final book in the duet.

I think the story line could have been great and the characters had potential. What I found was a lot of repetition-- constant reminders through the same words and the same dialogue about how the characters couldn't be together. So much so that it wasn't building the chemistry between Gabe and Abbie but became more tedious where i would skip over passages.
I get that this is a romantic suspense so of course the romance part might be a whirlwind of sorts but this instalment of the duet happens within a week maybe a week and a half time span and the two characters act like they are an old married couple. It's hard to buy into the insta-love notion when the chemistry between the two characters hasn't been developed enough. The backstory of the two characters which is vague to some degree makes it hard to believe these two characters would throw caution to the wind and jump into a relationship with each other.
The suspense part of the story on one hand I do want to find out what the heck is going on but I feel as if the author didn't even throw us a bone before leaving us on a crazy cliffhanger. I feel we're no closer to the answers at the end of this book than we were at the first page.
There were parts of the story I did enjoy but overall this book wasn't for me.

This book was equal parts frustrating and exhausting. Though the premise is good, there is very little actual story. Most of the book is pages and pages of internal dialog, Gabe and Abbie talking about their feelings, and sex, which to the author's credit, was hot and steamy. Throughout the book Abbie goes back and forth on if she's even willing to pursue their connection. I lost count of how many times she went from "I'm completely in" to "I have to walk away to protect him".I spent most of the first 25% of the book just waiting for them to leave his apartment so something besides sex and talking would happen. Then, when it finally starts to get interesting, it ends on a cliffhanger. Although I'm mildly curious how it all turns out, it's not enough to read another book, especially since I had to force myself to finish this one in hopes of some kind of payoff. In less you're a fan of long, introspective stories with no resolution, I would skip this book.

I had almost forgotten that we had stories for the entire Maxwell family with the exception of Gabe, so you can only imagine how happy I was to discover that his story isn’t just one book, but a 2 book series! That implies that his story will be far more complex than the others and i’m really excited about that.

So as we all know from the other installments around the brothers and their lovely sister, Gabe has some darkness in his past outside of the nonsense known as his father. He’s got some big secret related to a woman that has made him into the guy that we know and love. He’s the funny guy to keep people at arms length, he doesn’t trust women and will never get into another relationship (famous last words).

When this amazing redhead comes into his life though, all bets are off. Abbie comes with so much baggage that we can all agree that she gives him a run for his money. What we have learned is that she was married to a billionaire that has ties to the Maxwell brothers, and that he’s a man who doesn’t like to lose. We don’t know exactly what it is that he thinks he’s lost since he basically threw Abbie away, but there’s something and he’s doing his best work to make sure she pays.

What that means of course is that he’s going after Abbie, her mother, her mother’s business (an animal rescue shelter) and all that’s tied to it. Threatening legal action etc. The twist here of course is a complicated one. Abbie’s ex Kenneth is tied to Jean Claude, another powerful man that has been on the wrong side of Reid and the Maxwells for years. Also, these two evil billionaires are tied to the family, specifically to their father, who’s their lawyer. So you can only imagine how dirty this gets – and how quickly it all escalates.

The secrets that we know that Gabe has, which Kenneth tries to throw in his face in front of Abbie are only part of this story. There are also secrets that Abbie has that we really can’t quite put our finger on since she’s being so cagey. Does she have something of his that’s tangibles? Does she have something in the form of information that her ex doesn’t want out? Is he just a royal A-hole? We don’t know.

What we do know though is that all these secrets, lies and tension give us EXACTLY what we have come to expect in a Lisa Renee Jones story. A couple that has such explosive chemistry, fueled by attraction sure, but also really fueled by all that’s around them. Their relationship, something that Gabe was beyond against speeds up to levels that no one expected and from all sides they get questioned about it. Abbie fights it and pushes against in, because she’s hiding something and we don’t ever quite find out what when this installment ends.

We’re left at a dicey spot when this book ends. There are actions that happen, calls that are made, choices that are made on the sly that impact the story beyond comprehension and honestly, we don’t know where things are giong to go and who’s behind it all until the next book comes out. Someone has legal problems, someone gets threatened, someone dies. And still, there’s a black hole of questions that we still have. I’m anxious for the next book which i’ve happily discovered came out last week. So….onto the next!

Gabe Maxwell doesn't like redheads or relationships, but when he meets Abigail, all of that goes out the window. But Abbie, as he likes to call her, isn't as sweet and innocent as she may seem. She has a past that could get both of them hurt. Abbie's ex is a billionaire and determined to make her life a living hell just to get what he wants. Gabe has enough of his own money to fight any man who wants to hurt Abbie or her family. But what Gabe doesn't know can hurt him and Abbie doesn't want to see that happen.

Thank you to NetGalley and Lisa Renee Jones for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I have read a few books by Lisa Renee Jones, but this one missed the mark for me. Most romance books I'm able to fly through in a couple of days, but this one I just couldn't.

I think the thing that bothered me most about this book is that Abbie kept saying how she shouldn't be with Gabe because of her past. Every chapter, this was the recurring theme. They both know they are bad for each other, but the connection is great, so they try to work it out. Their main focus in this book is the numerous problems that keep arising with Shannon's(Abbie's mom) animal shelter. Abbie's ex is so determined to take this property from her, that he makes lots of false accusations. But this is the only thing she has asked for in the divorce, so he doesn't know why it is so valuable to him.

The saving grace of this book is the end, that leaves you with a cliff-hanger to find out what his going to happen next. So I will read the next book in the series.

Wholly smokes!!!

What's up lately with Lisa?
Lately all her books are full of secrets, murder and of course the already known steamy and hot sex.

Just kidding..... Though.....It is true.

The first book in tbe Dirtier Duet, is full of secrets, danger, hot rich guys, hot women and hot sex. Because that's what it is !

I swear, I've never been left by any of her books, hanging in mid-air and questioning if the - hot rich guy and the nameless girl who appears inthe picture not even after the first few lines - the relationship that started as a one night stand is actually a real thing, or just an illusion, because the things between these two aren't offering anything else to us, other than secrets (bloody, dirty secrets).

As usual, the book is meant to hook you from the first line and keep you in the story with each turn of the page. Besides the aforementioned things, it also doesn't lack a little bit of sarcasm, happiness, puppies and action. But I have to admit that it left me with a lot of questions like :

- What is Gabe's darkest secret that he doesn't want to reveal to anyone, in like EVER?!
- Is Abbie really who she says she is or is she play pretending? What secrets is she hiding?
And most importantly :
- Will we find out the answers to these questions, and possibly to others ( which aren't croaaingmy mind right about now) in the next book?

There is so much more to Gabe than you can see in all the other books. Yes, he’s funny and a bit of a man whore. Yes, he’s the “good cop” to Reid’s “bad cop”. And yes he has his secrets. He’s got a dark side he keeps just under the surface. You know it’s there and that it’s not just because of his evil father. This darkness has a female written all over it and no one knows who or why.

All it takes to bring out the other facets of Gabe are a feisty, independent redhead named Abigail. It seems damaged attracts damaged. Her secrets are dark and dangerous but she needs his help. Wants his help. Wants him. The two are magnets, drawn to each other. So much push and pull, each trying to protect the other. In addition to the obvious alpha she elicits in him, the dog-whispering romantic is somewhat astounding, and yet not.

But His Demand is not just a romance, it’s suspense. Her past and his have merged to take her down and threaten her very existence. Trust is completely missing between them but protecting the other from this evil is in the forefront. Both will go to any lengths it seems in their protection. All it takes is one phone call. Who threw down the gauntlet?

As always, I can easily lose myself in Lisa Renee Jones’ books but now I need Her Submission!
