Daring to Live on the Edge: The Adventure of Faith and Finances

Rate this book
Loren Cunningham's dream began with a vision--waves of young people moving out across the continents announcing the Good News of Jesus Christ. Decades later, Loren's vision has grown into an interdenominational movement of Christians from around the world who are dedicated to presenting the gospel to this generation.

Loren speaks and teaches internationally, and his missionary travels have taken him to every nation on earth. Loren Cunningham illustrates that trusting God in every area, including finances, is not just for those Christians called into "full-time" ministry. Every Christian, regardless of vocation, can enter into the adventure of living by faith by firmly committing to obey God's will. A Christian who has experienced God's provision will be spoiled for the ordinary.

I saw this book on top of a pile of free giveaway books at the school I worked at, and as soon as I read the title I knew it was for me. God knew I needed to read this book!

I recommend this book for all believers! It's not just for missionaries. Jesus told us we can't serve both God and money. When we choose to serve God, we still have to answer the question: What should we believe about money? Getting the right foundation of how God sees money, and what He wants us to think about it, is the key to knowing how we should use it. This book starts with what the Bible says about money.

From then on it is full of practical, biblical guidance. From the simple truth: Do not worry, to the practical details of giving, tithing, and raising support for missions, it answers all kinds of questions Christians often have about money. Plus, with countless stories of how God miraculously provided for the author and other YWAM missionaries, this is definitely a faith-building book. Reading this has filled me with courage for the missionary lifestyle that the Lord has called me to!

This book was recommended to me by my pastor when I was working full time in Christian ministry, and when my income came from people who supported me financially through the organization I was working for. So I found this book to be quite helpful and encouraging, especially when I was struggling with my financial support. Though there was things in here I had heard before from others, there was also more I had not heard, need to hear again or said in a different way. I would say anyone working in ministry and/or being supported through donations should definitely read this as well as those who aren't in the ministry field.

I think this book was aimed more towards adults, not people like me who are dependent on parents. It was overall a well written and informative book, but not very applicable to my life. Maybe I'll try it again in a few years.

I think every follower of Jesus should read this. It’s not a long, in-depth book, but lots of good advice, both general and practical, about how to handle money.

As always, Loren Cunningham's book is timely, relevant and challenging. With his typical combination of practical tips and real-life illustrations, this veteran missionary tells both the career minister and working man/woman how to trust God with every aspect of his/her finances and live a life of faith.

Giving is not just for the well-to-do, or those with "secular" jobs; it's also commanded for those whose support comes from donors. Conversely, just because you receive a regular paycheck doesn't mean you can spend your money any old way you please.

Learn how to hear from God and invest according to His prompting to see the kingdom of heaven advanced on earth, deepen your relationships with the Lord of the Harvest and fellow laborers, and experience blessings unlike anything you can imagine! And for those times when the resources seem lacking or delayed in coming, Loren suggests some great questions to ask to help determine a possible reason.

A must-have for any Christian library. Get extra copies to give to friends, so they, too can be challenged to "live life on the edge."

An exceptional and practical spiritual guidance book to help with people trusting in God with their finances and needs. Loren Cunningham gives readers great insight just how far trusting in God can really go for all our provisions. The book has many great examples of when situations are testing people and when turning to the Lord can make the ultimate difference. This book has been a revelation to me and I am sure to many other readers. Putting this sort of faith into practice does however come through the process of the journey and relationship with God. Living on the edge is a concept which can induce heavy doses of excitement, but when thinking of it as part of a consistent lifestyle it goes beyond sheer awe and amazement. Highly recommended!

A well-written book about God's miraculous provision in times of trial and testing. Cunningham cites example after example of how God responds in faith to those who trust him, even when logic says otherwise. No one in Cunningham's movement, Youth With a Mission, draws a salary, including Cunningham himself. All must rely on the generosity of others. Cunningham shows how trusting in God can be liberating.

This was an excellent and encouraging book! It has made me exciting and joyful about tithing and giving and eager to not let concerns of money keep me from the will of God. This is a book I will often refer to and re-read when I'm feeling discouraged financially. It has wonderful, practical advice about obedience, cheerful giving, raising support for missions, and working as if for the Lord. I highly recommend this book.

This is a Sonlight Curriculum recommendation that my kids have read. It's directed at missionaries who have to wait on God for their support, but it has a lot to say to us "civilians" about trusting God daily with our money and our lives. I'm keeping this one for future reference!

Helped to change my perspective on what "living by faith" means. Money is always a touchy subject and Cunningham approaches it well here giving different stories and lessons to give perspective.
