They contain no swearing, no gore, a bit of romance, and no cliffhangers.
Christine Zane Thomas is the pen name of a husband and wife team whose love of mystery and sleuths spurred the creation of their own mysterious writer alter-ego.
While not writing, they can be found in northwest Florida with their two children and schnauzer, Tinker Bell.
Their love of food takes them all around the South. Sometimes they sprinkle in the occasional trip to Disney World. Food and Wine is their favorite season.
This one is a bit different from the rest of the series in that no one dies right off. While Allie and Javi are out for a run one morning, they find the body of the sports coach on the road. Someone has apparently run him over and left the scene. Fortunately, the coach is alive, though in critical care.
I really loved seeing how Allie and Javi revolve around each other, always drawn into each other's orbits. They're so cute. Not a fan of that other cop that kept hitting on Allie, that was gross.
I wonder how many more times Allie will get coffee in this series, makes me want some myself.
Rep: female MC with anxiety--has anxiety/panic attacks, BIPOC love interest that is a detective.
CWs: Alcohol consumption, blood, body shaming (and comments about the MC's appearance), car accident, fatphobia, injury/injury detail, medical content, mental illness (anxiety/panic attacks), misogyny, sexism.
Another great storyline that keeps you guessing until the end. I loved that it went in a different direction from the beginning. Once again looking forward to the next installment.
I did enjoy this story, however it was on the short side so not a lot of suspects. It also had a lot of love life drama. There is no murder in this book and instead Allie is investigating a hit and run accident. There are questions to keep you guessing, such as is the coach the nice guy he seems? But only one really suspect is investigated before all is revealed. The other thing I didn't see the point of and if I had been reading I would have skipped, was at the start of each chapter you have a letter sent in to Allie's blog but it didn't seem to have anything to do with the story or case. I did like the characters and although I would have preferred more investigating the romance/friendship is sweet. When Allie and her friend Javi are out jogging they stumble over a body. An apparent victim of a hit and run. The high school coach was !over by everyone but Allie can't help but think it was no accident. Did someone try to kill him? In between taking cooking classes, writing her food blog and making dates with Javi can Allie find out what happened? I have heard the narrator read a few different series and I must be honest I don't always like how she portrays the characters but I think in this book her voice works well for the characters. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntary left this review.
Another great read that will leave you with a smile on your face. She gets her man! A nice plot - okay it covers everyone's nightmare - hit and run. But it's well constructed and done in a really thoughtful way. Her friendship with the detective has led them to train together several times a week. Today they are going over some tough terrain when she spots something by the side of the road. A body. The main is still alive and medics are soon on the scene. But he is in a coma and can't give any information. Now it's a case of seeing if he survives. Will he? If he does will he remember the accident or was it a deliberate act. She tries not to get involved as her cousin's wedding is coming up fast but she can't help herself. Will she find out what happened? Will she get a date for the wedding?
Another great Allie Treadwell book. Allie, a good blogger some how ends up stumbling onto crimes, this time literally. Out for one of their runs, Allie and her detective “friend,” Javi Portillo stumble upon the victim of a hit and run. The victim is the local High School football coach. While Allie promises to not put her nose where it doesn’t belong, trouble seems to follow her when she starts to find clues about the crime. The story takes you through several leads, Allie putting her foot in her mouth and her life being at risk several times. I enjoy the Foodie File mysteries tremendously. They are easy reads with a some mystery and fun, even nosey relatives. The only disappointment was the end, not the story but how it abruptly ended. I felt like there should have been a little more leading to the final chapters. Either way, the story and characters are great. Can not wait to see where Allie’s next adventure takes her.
I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. While out running with Javi, Allie spots a body laying in the grass. While she goes looking for a phone to call it in, Javi tends to the man and decides it was a hit and run. Allie and Javi grow closer while he investigates the incident and tries to keep Allie from investigating. I really like these books and recommend it honestly.
...and I love how the author had Allie & Javi finally get together for real. Also, adding to the mix Kieran’s interest in Allie made Javi step up his game. Looking forward to book 5.
This might just be my favorite book in this series. I love how the authors always have a surprise ending! I will read more books by these authors and highly recommend to anyone that likes cozy mysteries without offensive language and sex scenes!
Allie is a blogger, with a second title of finding murder. Even out jogging there is a hit and run, saying no to investigation, and she is drawn in. These are good and more than just a cozy mystery. Allie and her friends add to the stories. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
I really enjoyed reading this book series! The characters were fun and diverse with good storylines. I loved the family dynamics and really enjoyed the recipes at the end of the books. I hope there are more books to come soon!
First book, by this author, for me. Woman who is a food critic, found an Injured man, by the side of the road. Her friend, a detective, was with her. Trying to find out who hit him, both people get to work. Two recipes in the back, also.
This one was less about the mystery and more about Allie's relationships and was a fun mix of food and romance. The slowmance between Jack and Allie was great.
Good book. Allie and Jack make a cute couple. It took four books for them to come to the same conclusion. And the murder mystery was good too. Good book.
Oh I am so glad I found another series narrated by Angel Clark, she just so suits cozy novels. This was so much fun, nice and short but am so going to find more in this series. Just loved it, not serious.
