Chock full of quizzes, examples, practical advice, and small steps you can take in your real life, Stand Up! takes readers through the ways to be an Upstander, including being kind to yourself, having empathy for others, spreading kindness, and dealing with conflicts.
Do you want to be an Upstander who makes the world a better place by standing up to bullying and injustice in your school, home, or community? If so, this book is for you! You may doubt that one kid can make a difference. You can't fly like Wonder Woman or scale walls like Spiderman, but you could be a hero to someone else by speaking up. Small changes can lead to bigger and bigger changes!
Want to make a difference?Want to stop the bullies in our schools, communities, world? This book just might be what helps us all make a difference. This book should be used in every grade to encourage kids to stand up for each other and help each other. Everyone can make a difference but reaching out and telling a bully to stop, or befriending someone who seems alone. No matter how young, everyone can make a difference and make the world a little bit of a better place for everyone. I liked this book. Lots of good suggestions for how kids can make a difference. I received an arc from the publisher in exchange for a fair review.
This was an interesting title but I think that reading about being upstanding and actually standing up for someone else are two different things. To many times kids will read (or be forced to read) something as well as being nice to siblings etc. But, once they are put into a situation to be kind they don't take it. This book will set them on that path to choosing to be kind and to stand up for those they see being bullied etc.
With easy to follow instructions and themes to make kids think this was a wonderful title for all ages.
Thank you to NetGalley and Magination Press for the early copy of this book to read.
Stand Up! is an important book for those in school, wanting to make a difference. There are many examples of the work in action. This book gives several steps on how to become an upstanding citizen and friend.
I hope that those that end up reading this book, will follow what the book says, so they will be able to stand up for themselves, friends, classmates, neighbors, and the world.
We need more books that deal with the difficult subject of bullying. If no one stands up to this growing epidemic it will continue to do a lot of damage to our young people. This book gets right to the heart of the matter and makes us think. Doing nothing is the same as tolerating the effects of bullying.. I recommend this book to students, parents, and teachers. In fact make it a text book for a new class called. Being a Bully, Dealing with a Bully. This book should open discussions on classrooms and homes everywhere.
I think the strongest part of this book is that it gives small steps for students to follow. While it is easy to read books, it is another matter altogether to put the words into practice. There are quizzes, practical advice, and sample scenarios/stories. There are also questions designed to get kids thinking about how and why they would handle certain situations. Bright and attractive, grades 2-6
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this was such a great children's non fiction about how children can make a difference. I think that Wendy Moss explaining everything for so that children can understand. I think this book should be on library and school library shelves so that all can read and learn how to make a difference. Even adults can learn a thing or two while reading this book.
