Chris M. Rutledge is originally from Chicago, IL and currently resides in Los Angeles. He attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he also pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Chris has been a technical writer and reviewer in the commercial real estate industry since 2002, by day; and creative writer since 1997, by night. The transition to screenwriting was appropriate since Chris has a strong interest in writing, fused with a passion for film. He has written several feature-length screenplays and a five episode short film series which are available for review upon request. Chris decided to "reverse engineer" one of his screenplays into a novel, which would eventually become his first published novel, "Murder at Venegoni's.
Chris currently juggles both screenwriting and novel writing and plans to write future novels based on his screenplays and vice versa.
Rutledge’s ASCLEPIUS reimagines the old medical thriller, away from the predictable Michael Crichton format. The evil government official with a vicious assassin willing to root out all competition. Some of the characters are very familiar, like old bedroom slippers, but his willingness to experiment with, and skill in, suspense makes this book reader worthy. It’s a satisfying effort. —AALBC.com
This was the first time I read a thriller with a medical backdrop. I wasnt sure how to feel about a present tense perspective, but I ended up listening to the audiobook and at some point it started to feel like I was listening to an old time radio thriller that felt very modern. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the story and because quickly invested in both the plot and the characters.
⚠️Medical thrillers are my all time favorite, I feel I live for them. This book explores medicine as a backdrop with a fast paced and engaging storyline. Both the protagonist are my favorite, since the plot is fast paced, they were built faster within a very few pages I felt both of them were real and everything that was happening inside the book was happening around me. The book jumps from places and town, it's very nail biting and entertaining at the same time. . ⚠️I also feel the plot is built intricately and is complex at times, the book didn't had a space for unnecessary drama and description, I absolutely loved that. I loved how things were running, I loved how both the characters were brought in the frame, I loved the writing and narration. If you are someone who loves thrillers and is looking for a fast paced thriller, feel free to pick it up. This is something I will highly recommend. . Rating: 4.5🌟
Is it a coincidence or... 🦄🦄🦄 Asclepius by Christopher M. Rutledge is a Crime, thriller and mystery novel about the mysterious deaths of doctors of alternative medicine. Dr. Geoffrey Chance Du Bois is a well known doctor on this field and when the question of whether these deaths are a coincidence of there's a bigger conspiracy at play. The police seem to be no help. Together with Dr. Fulani he embarks on an adventure to find out the real truth behind these deaths. But this journey may turn fatal when they cross paths with the wrong kind and lose the people that they are close to. Will they uncover the truth or lose their lives just like everyone else? 🦄🦄🦄 So, the concept of the story is good. Everyone loves a good crime fighting story where the detectives are civilians and not police fighting for justice. It also gives us an insight to how the world of alternative medicine has disapproving voices. It's a quick and easy read for anyone interested in the mystery genre. But, the way the story is written could be better. Most of the times it felt like a screenplay and not a novel. E.g. ABC looks at him. How? In what context? Is it because of a negative or positive emotion? Things like this need to be elaborated on so that the reader can understand more about the character and his or her development. 🦄🦄🦄
The subject of this book was attention-grabbing! I don't think I've read a medical mystery in quite sometime that I couldn't put down. Although the tense in which the author wrote was sometimes a little hard to follow, the subject was very clear. Would like to read more books of this genre.
The story is fantastic but if I'm being entirely honest the language could use some work. However, unnecessary details and uncharacteristic language aside, I still couldn't put this down. Definately a great novel.
