His Broken Princess

Rate this book
This dark romance will be released via my newsletter.

Power. Wealth. Status.

I’ve had it all since I took my first breath.
Whatever I desire, I get.
And if someone dares to go against me?
They live to regret it.

I’m a monster soaked so deep in vices there is no atonement for my soul.
A hunter who hunts his prey constantly, punishing them for hideous crimes they’ve committed.
I never needed anything more.
Until my eyes landed on her.

A beautiful and broken princess shunned from her castle as she sought justice in our fake and glittering world.
A pure and mesmerizing creature who doesn’t belong in my darkness.
She awakes my stone-cold heart in ways I never expected, making me crave her in the most primal ways; speaking to the monster inside me.

I should stay away.
Instead she becomes my obsession.

V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her mama over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied filmmaking and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn't happen.
Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it.
When she is not writing, she can be found with her friends doing all sorts of crazy things or reading recent romance books that were written by her favorite authors.

descriptionThis author writes serial killer heroes like no other, and every book I've read of hers to date is awesome. This one was no different. I LOVED it. It features the parents of Damian and Dominic from the Sociopath Duet, which for some strange reason I have yet to read. (?) It is also free if you sign up for this author's newsletter. At least I *think* it is still free. In any case, it was a fantastic read, and I would 100% recommend it.

I just love serial killer romances and this particular author just does these so well.
For a supposed dark romance this was actually quite a sweet one it was just edgy enough to entice without alienating.
If you want to try out this type of darker themed romance this is probably quite a good one to start with as it's not really that extreme in terms of the content.
The darkness here comes from the actual fact that it involves a serial killer and also because Lila has some serious triggers.
The romance itself here is not dark more bordering on a kind of obsession.
I really enjoyed this one.

This is absolutely neither an ordinary romance or a fairytale!
This is a romance from another perspective. It is slightly dark and out of bounds, suspenseful, twisted and intriguing.
Dual pov, fast paced, meanwhile I have to confess there were parts that barely confused me. However, I enjoyed this story very much and I would have liked the characters (especially Eugene and his obsession with Lila) to be more developed.
Regarding the cover, although I liked it, it didn’t deliver the atmosphere of the story.

Gah! Love me some serial killers!!

The Good

1) A serial killer in love. Enough said. Or more like obsessed or whatever but it still counts!
2) The deeper look into his mind. I just love it when writers go into the dark, gritty details. This is why dark romance rocks so bad!

The Bad

1) The choppy pace. I can't seem to escape that lately. There were so many flashbacks and back and forths and it messed with the reading experience, but not a lot.
2) I wished there was more to why he was so obsessed with her. Why he loved her. The insta love thingy didn't seem appropriate for his personality. I just didn't buy it.

Overall, this is another new author to me success! I'm enjoying all these discoveries so much! But I feel so hurt knowing that this is a prequel and their ending wouldn't be so good in their sons lives *le sigh*

This book is filled with tragedy, revenge, friendship, and unconditional love. The things that both Lila and Eugene went through.. wowziers! This book had a twist that I didn't get until it was almost revealed but even though I figured it out it still was shocking. The writing was really good. This was my first book by V.F. Mason and it won't be my last. It was a really good one!

I swear only V.F Mason can get me loving her serial killers. Once again she has written another fantastic Dark Romance.
This book will keep you on edge. It's about two damaged souls dealing with their pasts, it's suspenseful, gives you the feels, and well just beautiful.
In my eyes this author can do no wrong. She has yet to disappoint me.

This was a fantastic book! This was Lila and Eugene’s story. It was very well written with such a good ending! I was hooked from the very beginning and didn’t want to put this book down. It was dark, twisted, and unpredictable. I like how it ties into some of her other books as well. I would highly recommend this book and I look forward to more in the future!

Not bad , But not Mason's best either!

This is the 3rd V.F.Mason novel I've read. Mason writes really twisted, dark stories. She manages to weave an intriguing, often complex, plot into a cohesive story where a serial killer, sociopath, or psycho is the hero and makes you love him!

The two previous reads: The Land Where Sinners Atone and Santiago's Conquest, are very intense and emotional! Mason made me feel everything the characters were feeling. Sadly, that intensity and emotion was missing in this one. While the story wasn't bad and I did enjoy it, I didn't have the same emotional connection with the characters, particularly the H.

This story follows the same pattern of the two previous books...i.e. told in dual points of view in present time, with views into the characters past interspersed in between every few chapters. The h's past is pretty explicit giving you details to her past trauma and what happened in the aftermath which gives you insight into her psyche and explains her character. Unfortunately, the H's was lacking. While you get some details of his past trauma and even a little of what happened in later years, it's not enough to explain who and what he is. Something was missing....maybe more insight to his relationship with his mother as a child, before the trauma, to explain his reaction??? Not really sure, but there just wasn't enough there to let me connect with him and understand his motivation.

Mason has a tendency to throw in character names without explaining who they are at first. Have to admit, I had to re-read the first 2-3 chapters, kept going back, to figure out who was who or what the relationship/connection was. Fortunately, within the first few chapters, you learn who all the players are and their connections so it's not really an issue. Just makes the first few pages difficult.

Ultimately, in the end, this one was not as good as the first two I read (they were 5 stars); but, it's still an enjoyable and intriguing read. Loses one star for the lack of emotion (this one didn't make me feel anything) and 1/2 star for the lack of connection to the H...because I know from past reads Mason is fully capable of both.

Nobody writes a sexy serial killer like VF Mason! This was such a good book! I think there's something wrong with me though, because I was more sympathetic to the serial killer, than I was to Lila! LOL. This will definitely keep you turning pages though, wanting to see how it all ends!

A serial killer in love. The deeper look into his mind. I just love it when writers go into the dark, gritty details. This is why dark romance is awesome but it took a while to get there and was a little confusing. Well worth the read though

Spoiler alert - this book should have been released first as it starts the series of sociopath duet and pakhan duet. Reading it now is so illogical and so frustrating

Her work in ruins as the rain pours down on her. The day couldn't get any worse ...

Then he's there with the offer of help before he vanishes into the night.

Family are foes and strangers are dangerous. Darkness closes in on her.. slowly and surely like a shadow in the night.

He watches, he waits, he takes a step closer. She will be his!

Such darkness it's delightful in a deadly kind of way! delicious!

V.F Mason always fulfils my dark desires, and this book is no exception to that!

She is one of life's fighters, it takes a brave heart to disobey the parental units, especially when they are cold, calculating and extremely powerful.

He lost himself and only with her can he be truly reborn. She is the calm to his storm, the sun to his shade and the day to his night. She is simply everything to him.

They might run in the same elite circles but that's where their similarities end but oposites attract.

His dedication to her is like no other. It's beautiful yet scary at the same time.

I gave myself to this book completely as the deadly dance played out before me.

There was never going to be too much darkness in their past or present. The balance was perfect.

The suspence is a killer, the omg tell me!! factor there in the back of your mind, the teasing and unexpected twists add depth and destruction to your heart.

Simply put.. Loved it!!

Oh man, my heart. How I loved this story! What a great little look into the past at Lila and Eugene, an origin story on how a couple of future anti-heroes became.
Lila has experienced a horrible, tragic event that she can’t escape from. Eugene is the “geeky” friend that wants to help her but secretly wants more. They develop a friendship that turns into romance. Lila is ready for the next step but she still doesn’t know “everything” about Eugene. Because once she does, she may not like it.
Eugene, or Mean Gene, is your definition of a modern day Robin Hood. By modern day, I mean serial killer with a conscience? He is totally devoted to Lila, maybe borderline obsessive but it wouldn’t be the trend if he wasn’t. Lila wants to be the good girl with standard morals but sometimes what is right isn’t exactly right.
Their love is powerful, enough to overlook the dark side that lingers. And the ending, arrrgghh! I knew it! And I was heartbroken. I guess I can just know that they were happy and loved..very much.
Thank VF for this book! I never even thought it was needed but it sheds light on a lot on the future characters and how they came to be.

A typical but nonetheless enjoyable read from Mason. Unfortunately I found the use of pathetic fallacy rather cliche (e.g. storm clouds rolling through in anticipation of conflict) and Masons attempt at concealing the identity of the killer was lacklustre and transparent. The second possible killer was mentioned all of 3 times (max!) before disappearing for the remainder of the story, leaving us with literally only 1 plausible suspect remaining (that being Eugene). Additionally, the ending felt extreme rushed and unlikely, given that Lila was so against Jake being a killer, she bumps her head and suddenly she can look past her previously impervious morals? I find that high improbable. The main reason I give it 3 stars (rather than 2) is because it was an easy read and I was baffled throughout the novel as to why it was set in the 80's but it is revealed in the end that Lila is in fact mother to characters in other Mason novels; I really appreciated and was impressed by Masons ability to tie her novels together (though one wouldn't understand if the other novels hadnt been read prior to this one). All in all an easy, quick read but likely won't be picking it up again.

LOVED! I was so glad that VF Mason wrote the story of Lila and Eugene, who are parents of Damian and Dominic from the Sociopath Duet and Pakhan Duet. I read the Sociopath’s diet first so I knew the outcome of Lila and Eugene but it didn’t ruin His Broken Princess for me.

This story, along with the others, follows a serial killers obsession with the woman he wants. VF Mason writes a superior antihero who you just can’t help to root for. Their backstories are horrific and although they are serial killers, you gain the knowledge that they have morals and rules to live by.

I would highly suggest you read His Broken Princess before reading Damian and Dominic’s stories just for the background of this couple.

I have read several stories from Mason this past weekend (4 to be exact) and I can’t wait to dive into more.

Wow. So dark romances aren't my thing but I do love some good anti hero/villains getting heas. Add a well written love story and you have His Broken princess!

Eugene and Lila had my heart hurting for them and rejoicing for them.
My only complain is that I would have like a more indepth look into Eugene and his obsession for Lila. And also just a little more deeper look into the man himself.

All in all, I'm glad I picked this up on a whim and onwards to Damian's (I'm gonna have my heartbroken , I think, coz I desperately want a hea for Eugene and Lila and that's not gonna be the case here)

How do you love a man who's secrets go against everything you believe?

Easy, when you watch him, little by little put every one of your broken pieces back together to make you whole.
Do you approve, no...
Do you understand, maybe...
Can you forgive...who knows, but you will keep his secrets.

Once again VF Mason takes us on a journey that pushes the moral boundaries of every day folk, but I confess I'm happy to go along each and every time.

Fantastic! Wow, this was dark and twisted and yet so goddamn romantic. If serial killers upset you (and they probably should, lets be real, those of us who enjoy this stuff are probably a little messed up!) then you won't get through this one. But for those of you that aren't easily offended and enjoy a glimpse inside a warped mind you'll devour this.

Definitely love psychopathic features in dark romances.
*Please check TWs*

Did Lila do dumb and naive things that made me want to shake her? Yes
BUT
Did she also act/sacrifice for him, to protect him, to have a good future onwards? Yes

Ahem ahem, we Eugene...what can I say? He's perfect? I guess that'll more than work

Another amazing book by V.F. Mason. Once I started reading I didn’t want to put this book down.

V.F. Mason writes the best serial killers and the woman they love. There is a lot of action, suspense, darkness, twist and turns. And also love and accepting who you are.

This author knows how to make you fall in love, especially with serial killers. Eugene and Lila had an interesting relationship. They were fated to be with each other. Lila kept running from it time and time again. It took a little help from a friend and some truth from Eugene to get Lila on board.
