A year has passed since Navah Dickson’s once perfect buppie life was destroyed by her love for neighborhood drug dealer and street corner thug, Richard, and Navah is finally ready to live again. After a stint in rehab, and working tirelessly at a local women’s shelter helping women like herself find their way back, she is finally ready to start rebuilding the life she lost. But, when Richard’s brother, Boogie, is released from prison and comes looking to avenge Richard’s death, Navah finds herself in the fight of her life, not only against Boogie, but her own demons. With the help of Shauna, once one of her biggest foes, her best friends Bebe and Marie, who rush back from Atlanta to Cleveland to be by her side, and new friend and next-door neighbor, Toni, Navah shakes off the fear that has held her hostage to her past and opens up her heart once again to the possibility of love.
Where to start... this was probably one of the better books I've read this year. The author had me hooked on the MC in the first page by sharing a glimpse of her backstory (recovering addict, with hints of love and devastating betrayal). Who can't get caught by a hook like that?
The pacing was neat, building a world for me, interlaced with happenings that added to the main plot. Certain events had me on the edge of my seat.
At first I thought maybe Boogie was a joker and that Navah didn't have anything real to worry about. Granted, I hadn't read the first book in the series, which likely would've made me feel differently. I enjoyed being a passenger in Navah's life as she worked through things at Shelter and down in ATL.
When the real threat of Boogie was shown through the end of Gina, I grew completely engrossed, needing to know how it all ends. I couldn't put the book down. Let me just say, we all need unsuspecting heroes like Tucker and friends like Toni.
The author showed me a world I wasn't familiar with. I found myself rooting for Navah. As Jerome says, she's indeed brave. I think this story could help give hope to people caught in bad situations. The MC is someone who persevered, even when she tripped up, she fought her way back. We all need to have heroes with real struggles. Navah is one of them.

This is Navah story she has two best friends that are sisters they love and support her to no end. She's obviously a caring person because people tend to want to take care of Navah and they need to. I enjoy the way this author writes. I like the grittiness of her stories mixed in with the laughter. It is definitely a roller coaster ride that I think everyone would enjoy taking.
Usually sequels can't live up to the first. This was not the case this one definitely lived up to the first it was even better. Navah is a great character she went through a lot and you root for her as she finds her way through it all. Read this book.
I am a sucker for a strong female voice, and Chasing Navah did not disappoint. Angela is a talented writer, and the pace of the story kept me turning the pages. I can’t wait to read the first book!
