Where to start... this was probably one of the better books I've read this year. The author had me hooked on the MC in the first page by sharing a glimpse of her backstory (recovering addict, with hints of love and devastating betrayal). Who can't get caught by a hook like that?
The pacing was neat, building a world for me, interlaced with happenings that added to the main plot. Certain events had me on the edge of my seat.
At first I thought maybe Boogie was a joker and that Navah didn't have anything real to worry about. Granted, I hadn't read the first book in the series, which likely would've made me feel differently. I enjoyed being a passenger in Navah's life as she worked through things at Shelter and down in ATL.
When the real threat of Boogie was shown through the end of Gina, I grew completely engrossed, needing to know how it all ends. I couldn't put the book down. Let me just say, we all need unsuspecting heroes like Tucker and friends like Toni.
The author showed me a world I wasn't familiar with. I found myself rooting for Navah. As Jerome says, she's indeed brave. I think this story could help give hope to people caught in bad situations. The MC is someone who persevered, even when she tripped up, she fought her way back. We all need to have heroes with real struggles. Navah is one of them.
