I have never written a review and we read a lot, classics and modern. I can't believe this book showed no reviews. We read books as a family and Our 8 year old said it is even better than Swiss Family Robertson. Our 10 year old said best ever and I will say I put it up against "Pilgrim's progress" The book is telling my life story and struggle. God help us realize it is not just a story but real.

This book is excellent and I look forward to reading the next two. For adult readers, it starts slow but power through. It is a must read for any adult and child that desires to follow the One True King!

The concept of the boom is great and like some other coverup well written series such as the chronicles of narnia it depicts soldiers in Christ’s kingdom and the author does it very well overall awesome book and READ IT

This book is the anthem of a whole generation of believers who have escaped the great dragon and fled to the oasis. 100% recommend! If you haven't read this, what are you doing???

What Dodd has to say is not all bad, but he chose the wrong genre for his message. He ought to have preached a sermon or offered a series of lectures. Instead, he dressed his ideas up with swords and dragons. His storyline is forced, and his characters are flat. His voice resembles a high-school writer who has yet to develop a natural written venacular. He overuses "soulmate," "beloved wife," and "precious daughter," in addition to emotionally charged words. This creates lots of advertising for his scenes and characters without actually showing the reader with dialogue or descriptions of the qualities that make that wife beloved or this man brave. His analogies and metaphors are painfully obvious, requiring the readers simply to open their mouths and swallow. No chewing is required. Again, he offers some valid criticism of our culture and religious life; but, combined with the genre he chose, his message becomes an agenda that does a disservice to literature.

This book paralleled my life and confirmed to me that my life is not my own. I had the delight of meeting The Dodd family and discovered that the book was an overflow of their passion and commitment to follow the Lord wherever He may lead. It was such an encouragement to me and my family.

Good book

Spot on description of many of our current humanitarian religions. Rather than put our hearts in the castles, we should fill our hearts with the scrolls.

All I could say at the end of this book was "Wow. That was amazing"
This book is packed with symbology and metaphors that are so powerful. This isn't just a Christian book, this is a truth book.
This book promotes tons of good concepts such as modest dress, family roles(husband, wife, parents and child), family unity, homeschooling and so much more!
I love the whole concept of the false church and that it is always promoting the fact that the "Scroll" (or bible) is the only real truth.
Along with promoting good concepts, it also goes against bad ones such as bad movie influences, children/families being divided, men and women being the same, idolizing/obsessing over wordly things (such as sports) and more.
This book is such a wake-up call and is more than just a story. It's like a Bible study or course made into an extremely entertaining story. With every page i was simply amazed at the power and truth in every sentence. Everyone should read this book.

Update: reading this series for the second time! I totally forgot just how good these books are. Seriously the best and most powerful allegory ever, every sentence is just amazing. I'd go as far as to say that every Christian should have read this series at least once. I CANNOT recommend these enough!!!
