Being dead was the easy part...

Coming back to life sure can do a number on a guy. Hijacking the Demon Emperor’s resurrection spell has left Erik with nightmares that are a touch too vivid. The blood and memory loss don’t help either.

So when a string of grizzly murders make the mortal police force turn to Erik, he sees one too many signs that point uncomfortably towards himself as the perp. With angels hunting him down, his friends questioning his actions, and being unable to account for lost time, Erik sets on a path toward the one creature he knows can give him a definite answer.

Except it lives in its own branch of Hell, with no way for a human to access it unless Erik’s willing to embrace the darkness within…

The Warlock Legacy series is an action-packed urban fantasy thriller book series, great for fans of Jim Butcher, Sarah J. Maas, Kevin Hearne, Steve McHugh, Michael Anderle, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, K.F. Breene, and Shayne Silvers.

Although I say I read this book I'm currently 75% finished. I just wanted to write this review n get it over with without returning to Goodreads n updating my progress.
Hello, my name is Erik Ashendale. Since returning from Hell my life is not the same. For instance, I had a nightmare about a huge knight attacking some mage. He was kicking, punching, slashing, n finally ripped the guy to pieces. Turns out it wasn't a nightmare, this actually happened, n somehow I witnessed the actual event. Totally weird!! But then that's just the tip of the iceberg. Several other occurrences happen with the same entity from my "nightmare". Let's just say they were as gruesome as before but involved mass murder. What the heck is going on n who is this Knight? Whoever or whatever it is , sure is pissed off about something.
I forgot to mention that I'm a wizard/magical monster hunter. I have an office in a building in the La Fortunata district that I share with 2 associates. Abi is a badass succubus hybrid. Amaymon is a demon trapped by ancestors in the body of a cat. But don't worry he can still shapeshifter whenever he wants to... But he's still an out n out trickster sometimes getting me into trouble. Like when we were checking out a lead n ran into some dubious characters. He's in his cat form n commenting to them (yeah he can talk as a cat) but they think it's me. He thinks it's funny the little.....we'll leave that unsaid. Substitute whatever word u want.
Any way this is turning out to be a strange case as I'm thrown in jail for the death of Detective Diaz. Every piece of evidence collected leads back to me including my DNA. Now I don't know what's going on but I definitely haven't killed anyone. The perp(called the Knightmare) is at fault n whoever he/she is a pissed off mortal with magical abilities.
Other things r not adding up, but my theory (far fetched as it may be) is that a battle is brewing. Balance has to be restored . See when I returned something else returned with me. N it ain't good. By balance, I'm talking about Heaven vs Hell, Sins vs Virtues, Demons vs Angels. You know the whole good vs evil crap.
The only thing I know is that I'm stuck knee deep in this screw up trying to keep my head above water while still maintaining my sanity.
Don't be afraid to check this book out if you haven't read any of the other books. The author has a way of giving u tidbits throughout the story that sorta helps u stay with the plot. There r some twists n turns mixed in that keep u guessing where the next plot will be. But then that's the whole point (to me) that makes for a good book.

Broken is the seventh book in the Legacy Series and competing with Resurrection with being the best in the series. Ryan Attard did an incredible job in writing this book. The plot is really starting to come together and even though there are still some parts that leave you like "how did we get here", the author is bringing these parts together! There are lots of twists and turns that I have gotten quite accustomed to at this point by this author and I wouldn't want to miss them. They give these books their own unique feel. This series is different in many ways. Some may think they are just senseless monster hunting books, but I don't think so. There are a lot of underlying little stories that are slowly but surely coming to light. The author only reveals so much at a time and these morsels of information are rather valuable.

The pace as usual feels fast but that is only because there is just always something going on. One of my favorite scenes is probably the one with Lhorax and the roasting, and yes I am not one for spoilers but that one was just funny, not particularly because of the actual roasting, but what resulted from it. I was actually chuckling during that one and that is something I don't usually do during this series. I thought that scene just really brought a new light to Erik.

And speaking of the devil, he is going through quite a transformation in this book. I admit, I wouldn't have believed it if someone told me but I think Erik is actually growing up! I didn't think this day would ever come but even with all his cursing, I can see the change that I have sensed coming on over the last few books and it is now finally rather apparent and can't be hidden anymore. I am curious to see how these changes will affect the series and where this will lead our newly transformed Erik.

Sadly, this book just got released which means I will probably have to wait quite a bit until the next one will come out. This series has come a long way. I have actually binge read this entire series over the last month or so and seen how the author has grown as well as the series and this transformation shows that there are big things to come yet!

With every Legacy book he writes, Ryan Attard polishes his craft & gets better & better! Another great Ryan Attard read. This book has everything, maybe the best Legacy book to date! Nonstop action, warlocks, talking cats, magic, sarcasm, humor & and further escalation from the earlier books in the series. I very much enjoyed this book & am ready for more. It was a cannot put down story adding to the storylines from his first books. Thank you Ryan Attard.

This series just gets better and better

I was a little worried before reading this book - could book 7 really be as good as those preceding it? Well I needn't have worried - this is not just as good, it's better. In Broken we meet a badly damaged Erik - he's back from the dead but something in him is broken. I can't describe what happens without giving out spoilers so if you have read the previous 6 books then read this one too.

Great way to tie up loose ends

This book in the series I think is one of the best. Eric has to battle himself and the wounds from the past. He pays a heavy price. He burns himself out and loses his magic. He spirals into a 2 month depression and has to make the decision to live. Can't wait for the next book.

Is This The End?

I cannot tell you if this is the last we'll see of Erik Ashendale and his band of misfits, but it is a bittersweet note in an otherwise beautifully enthralling symphony. I truly.hope that we will meet Erik again in the future.

Believe me, if you haven't read this series, you are truly missing out on the adventure of a lifetime.

Yup

Yup another excellent addition to this most epic series, I love Erik because he reminds me of people I know. My grandmother who suffers from PTSD, my snarky friends, and my good hearted brothers. Cant wait to see what's next

What in hell just happened!

Another great book from Ryan. The twins are badassery incarnate, mysteries are unfolding. Overall this chapter of the Legacy was really good, I enjoyed it immensely.

This book introduces some new angels and demons. One of the demons I hope to hear from again as she is a fun character. I love snakes. Even goat-boy was improved. I still don’t understand how his actions a few books ago could have been undone. Yes, Erik can come back from the dead. But those were regular human cops that Berphomet murdered. As usual there are some threads that make no sense and are never completed. It has been too long since I read the books, but perhaps the later ones take up the side stories.

This book has a timeline issue. The books have never implied that they take place in the distant future. Yet Greede has a throw-away line about it being four centuries since the Civil War. It was the US Civil War that was being referenced, so 150 years there-about. It was an odd statement. We are reintroduced to a character from Sins of a Father, Part Two: Ruination which also cements that it was the US’s war.

Greede also talks about how he knew Erik’s father. Greede was in the prequel, but only for a moment and never with Alan Ashendale. In fact, I remember thinking “Huh?” when he popped up.

Any complaints though do not diminish the enjoyment of the book.
