Quando cadi, devi accettarlo.

Thomas.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3 stars

Overall, Falling In strongly echoes its predecessor. The plot is nearly the same and it suffered from many of the same problems. But the writing does seem somewhat stronger and as a whole the book flows more easily. The misogynistic tone is also gone for the most part and this allowed me to enjoy Falling In a bit more than Straight Up.

Falling In follows Thomas and Clay, men from the same military unit introduced in the first book. There is another vacation on tap for the boys and again Thomas and Clay are isolated from the others for several days. During this time they go from being straight to gay (or at least out for you), friends to lovers, and discuss moving in with one another. All of this happens over the course of perhaps seventy-two hours. It lacks realism and reads like the caricature of a relationship. Thomas and Clay are both fairly shallow characters, never really developing beyond very basic constructs. Clay is a police officer and while visiting with Thomas he confesses there may be a group of dirty cops responsible for several deaths. This blows up in to a rather absurd situation, the resolution to which moves at the same ridiculous speed as everything else in the book. Clay tends to look dithering and weak as he fails to take action quickly. If you knew people were being killed, going on vacation seems like an odd response.

I never reveal spoilers in my reviews so this will be a first for me. This story had so much deja vu for me my head was spinning. It read like a rehash of the first book but with different names. Two men who have been great friends realize they have feelings for each other but are afraid to say anything? Check. One takes a chance, kissing the other while on vacation? They both fall effortlessly into having gay sex - without prep I might add - and with no qualms or second thoughts? Check. One starts having issues at his job and quits? Check.
Same scenarios, same angst, same situations just different location and different names.
I give 3 stars for the effort and time spent writing but this one just fell flat for me in too many ways.

This book picks up where Straight Up left off. It features two of the six friends, Clay and Thomas. Ever since their vacation week in Tennessee, they have feelings for each other that are more than just friends. The six guys plan another vacation week in Thomas’s hometown. Clay and Thomas give in to their feelings and get really together.
The writing is all right with good and not so good elements. There are some rather insightful phrases that had me thinking. However, there is also a fair amount of repeat of words that gets a bit annoying at times.
Clay and Thomas are likable characters. I could feel their attraction, but the instalove was a bit less realistic. I had trouble with the fact that the author didn’t seem to make up their mind about the status of their relationship. They talk about loving each other, but then in the next sentence, they act more like they are friends than lovers. I can understand some doubts and insecurities in a new relationship, but this was sometimes too much. The sex scenes, of which there are a lot, are steamy and hot. For two guys, who were seemingly straight, they moved very fast. Again, this didn’t feel natural.
There is a bit of suspense coming from Clay’s work as a police officer as he is questioned by Internal Affairs. This was nicely done.
This is the second book in the Only You series. It is not recommended to read this as a standalone.

STEADY AND STRONG

I love this band of Marine brothers. Thomas and Clay are so different from each other. They weren't even the closest of the friends. Danged if they weren't on fire for each other. I love the awkward stage of uncertainty these take charge, burly men find themselves in when true love finds them. It doesn't matter, man, woman, gay, straight or bi. Love Is Love and humanity follows its heart. I like that, even though these characters and storylines could be deeper, they were DEEP enough to keep ME turning the pages and cheering for Clay and Thomas. I am hoping sooo bad that one more trick is up your sleeve JS Finley, I am a FAN. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!! ALSO SEE BOOK #1 STRAIGHT UP

Hot Damn !!!!😘

This read was amazing . I loved book 1 as well but this has some action and cops 😋. Thomas and Clay were a match made in heaven . The sex was on point and lots of it . I really enjoyed that they had a group of friends that were more than accepting of their relationship and loved them regardless. Awesome group of guys that look out for one another loving each other unconditionally.💚💙👏Great job author can't wait to read about Lane and Mike who I think got something going on as well

Falling

This installment had a mix of romance, friendship and a little mystery. I like this group of guys who came together because of war but developed life long bonds. Clay and Thomas were a good match.

A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:

4 out of 5 stars

This was another nice story in this series. I love learning more about all the members of this Marine team. Clay’s stress level is through the roof at work right now and he definitely looking forward to his vacation on Daytona with the guys but his alone time with Thomas is even better. Thomas takes a chance and they are just getting their relationship off the ground when Thomas has to go back to Virginia.

We see both Thomas and Clay’s thoughts and how scared they are that trying anything could ruin their friendship. Thomas has worked hard to get his business going really enjoys getting to show Clay what he has done and see him enjoy it. I could continue to see Clay’s worry about work and how he tried hard to keep it away from everyone. I felt as if Thomas and Clay just clicked almost too well right away and everything worked out quickly even with the little bit of tension from Clay’s work in the background, most of the story was them just building their new life together but from the beginning they didn’t have to work much out between them.

The cover art by Sara York is nice and follows the pattern for the series.

The sex was really steamy and their relationship was so cute. But the drama and conflict felt anti-climatic. The situation with his department felt like it was thrown in there because the author felt like there needed to be conflict.
