Keri Pearson is currently between jobs, so there's nothing to lose when her cousin promises her a glowing recommendation from a top expert in their field in exchange for a small favor. All she has to do is lie about who she is and pretend to be married to a charming Scot for three hours. Her sexy-as-hell pretend husband makes it too easy to play the part of newlyweds. The last thing she should do is trust him or the genuineness of his lust or adoration, but his touch ignites an unexpected desire. Tristan Baird turned his back on his past with plenty of regrets, but when his brother blackmails him, Tristan can’t say no. Given his brother saved his neck, an afternoon doing what he does best doesn’t seem like too much to ask. And it’s for a good cause. Doing the job right guarantees his brother and new wife will have the home of their dreams. But his stunning accomplice complicates the job. She is everything he always wanted and couldn’t have. The kind of woman who is too smart to ever trust a former conman. The three-hour commitment stretches into five sexually charged days as they fight the explosive connection. As each day passes, Keri must remind herself what is true and what is false, but the lines are blurring. Tristan can only hope his past doesn't come back to ruin their future.
Melissa Blue's writing career started on a typewriter one month after her son was born. This would have been an idyllic situation for a writer if it had been 1985, not 2004. Eventually she upgraded to a computer. She's still typing away on the same computer, making imaginary people fall in love.
This is the second novella in the Under the Kilt series(please note there are no actual kilts, just hottie Scots) and this one turns up the heat a little bit from the first story. The plot of this one is less believable than the first but there was something about Keri & Tristan's romance that I actually enjoyed more than Joce & Ian's. I can't even put my finger on what it was (better chemistry? Tristan is more broken? hotter dirty talk?) but I couldn't stop reading it. You don't have to read Under His Kilt to enjoy this one, but these stories are not much over 100 pages so why not. I've already started the next one and might even test out more by Melissa Blue when I've finished with her sexy Scots.
It took longer for me to relate to this couple, but when I finally understood them, they touched my heart.
Unlike Jocelyn and Ian, Keri and Tristan are basically a couple of emotional cripples. Yes, they are both super smart and capable. But they both have issues that only the other can fix.
It was a chore to watch them get it wrong. When they finally got it right, it was a thing of beauty. I finally loved them as a couple.
I recently received an ARC of Melissa Blue's "Her insatiable Scot." I have to be honest, this is the first book that I have finished by this author, I am a huge fan of the "Den of sin" series (Shamelessly Taken is free on Amazon!) so I have "Forbidden Rendezvous," but I have not read this title yet.
My first impressions were quite confused, I hadn't read the first book, "Under his Kilt," so I had no idea what any of the characters were talking about. The reason for Tristan and Keri being at a hotel and posing as their family members, but as the story went on I began to understand more and more until I was quite obsessed with this book. Namely, Tristan.
Tristan. I love a strong alpha male with a generous helping of vulnerability and Tristan is just that. Smart, sexy, skilled in the bedroom and hurting, Keri is the only woman in the world able to offer him everything that he needs; beauty, intelligence, and patience. Aw sweet! Not exactly, try hot. Steamy, explosive, toes curling while reading, HAWT! And the way he said, "Aye" instead of yes? Girl! In my head it was deep and dark like a young Sean Connery.
Favorite line: I have more than one favorite, if I were to list them here I would end up copying pages 65, 69, and 95. e.g. Keri, "He probably tasted like the best decision she ever made....." Yum-O!
I'm jus Sayin: I asked my hubby, the C-Mac (as in the guy of Scottish decent) to say "Aye" for me and he just looked at me like I was stupid. ME! How rude.
Jocelyn has suggested to her new husband to allow his older brother Tristan to portray him while her cousin Kate Pearson will portray her at a convention they are unable to attend. What is the mission that Tristan and Kate are to accomplish? A con! Tristan is an old hand at being a con gone straight. Kate is a law-abiding woman who runs tests on artifacts to verify the age of the item. Tristan and Kate need to con the people who are running the "contest" and the prize is a historical home! The reason Jocelyn and Ian are unable to take this opportunity to win their 'dream home'? They are on their honeymoon! Will Tristan and Kate accomplish the mission? Read it to find out and remember to enjoy and have fun with the world of Melissa Blue!
Worse than the first one - I got the 3rd in the series in the same freebie bundle and I am going to delete it. Needed a solid Brit-picking (football isn't rugby etc) and a proof reader (costume jewellery, not cosmetic jewellery) and a plot that made sense. Also, the FMC from the first book makes herself look like a real bitch - why would she only put in a good word at work for her VERY QUALIFIED cousin if she commits fraud for her?
Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this novel as much as I enjoyed the first volume in the series. The MC's were very forgettable IMO. I didn't quite understand the premise of the story and frankly, I didn't care enough to backtrack in my audiobook in order to figure it out. I will continue with this series but I will have to drop it if the third volume isn't any better.
Way more moving and interesting than I was expecting - a third of the way through I had to stop and slow myself way down to really follow and feel into their emotions and thinking. Very much a character study. Makes me want to re-read the first in this series (and the rest of them too).
What a ridiculous premise - 2 people have to attend a conference pretending to be other family members. Idiotic and there was just nothing more than sex between the two main characters. It was just a very boring story and very long because of it.
“His musky scent of spice and man filled up the distance between them.”
“She breathed in. Spice. Man. Sex.”
“he smelled like whatever soap he used. The kind you wouldn’t find next to Old Spice. The expensive musk held the fragrance of man. Procreation. She exhaled.”
So hot, so good. These Baird boys are true book boyfriend material ( if you're into that) and the ladies, like Keri are stronger than they appear at first glance.
Fake marriage and only one bed! Keri and Tristan have to work their way through what's real and what isn't, but it was a fun and steamy trip. Still no kilt, though.
This was a fun read, if not exactly mind blowing. I enjoyed the random trivia, and although the base of the plot wasn’t super firm, I allowed myself to just take the ride, and I’m glad I did!
Don't usually go for contemporary novels much, but these books by Melissa Blue have captured my interest. Charming, witty, funny, sexy & enchanting. If you're into kilts, then I recommend you give these a try.
The second in her Under the Kilt Series, Melissa Blue brings us Keri and Tristan. Those who are familiar with Under His Kilt will see the family ties as Keri is Jocelyn’s cousin and Tristan is Ian’s brother. Both Keri and Tristan are at loose ends without any major commitments, so filling in and impersonating a married couple to help out their more settled relations will also help them turn a corner into the lives that they want.
Keri is clever and quick, with a bad habit for choosing men who leave her feeling insecure: yet her optimism and sarcastic wit manages to conceal many of her doubts. A more emotionally charged read than the first book, Keri has a way of endearing herself to everyone: even those who are trying to not be affected.
Tristan is Ian’s wastrel brother, much of his life has been spent playing the long con, even though he wants to lose that way of life and the danger it entails. But changing is never easy, and Tristan is worried that no matter how much he changes in the now, his past will always make him less desirable.
Together, Keri and Tristan have a chemistry that shoots off the charts. Interactions between them are often fun and funny, with some moments of emotion that will bring tears and giggles with equal abandon. And their chemistry leads to some smoking hot scenes, even with the clever asides… Maybe she would have an orgasm, and then she wondered how many women couldn't climax. She'd researched the number once and was astounded. Eighty percent? Ninety-five? He briefly lifted his head and muttered, "Seventy-five percent" If that doesn’t get you laughing and then wondering – nothing will.
Melissa Blue has given us a story full of heart, steam and healing: of course these two deserve a happy ever after, but will it be for them together or apart? I would suggest that you have read the first book in the series, only to get more of Blue’s writing: and it will help to understand the introduction of Keri and Tristan, but once those issues are sorted out (about 20% in) you really aren’t missing any pertinent information.
I purchased a copy of the title for my own library, no review was requested nor required
I received an ARC of this book and was extremely excited because I enjoyed the first book Under His Kilt so much. Due to my love of the first book I worried that this one would not live up to my expectations. Boy was I wrong! Not only did it live up to them it exceeded them. The story was a lot more emotional than the first one and I was not prepared for the rollercoaster of emotions it brought on.
The h/h, Keri and Tristan were well developed and I really got a sense of who they were very early on. Ms. Blue so masterfully wrote these characters that I literally felt their aches, their doubts and don’t get me started on their chemistry! The love scenes were so hot that I had to stop reading a few times and get a cold glass of water.
Keri is intelligent with a quick, sarcastic wit that I really related to. This was a woman that had allowed men to get into her head and made feel less than she was. We have all been there at one time or another making her seem so relatable she could be your sister or girlfriend.
Tristan is everything you want your hero to be; sexy, strong and confident and knows how to work a woman’s body! Yet it was the tortured soul within him that won my heart. How can you not love a man who wants so desperately to be deemed good enough for his woman but realizes that the demons of his past are too much to conquer? At the end of chapter 12 he says something that had me in tears. His anguished desire leaped off the page and I really felt like I was a voyeur into his heart.
Ms. Blue has created another amazing well written story and for me it is her best yet. I hope that she provides updates on the characters in future books because they are worthy of revisiting.
It was a good story but a little more romance than I expected. Will read rest in the three I got and will have to see where it goes from there. Very good character development. Some unexpected twists.
Keri agrees to help her cousin since she is between jobs and her cousin will give her a good recommendation if she helps out. All she has to do is pretend to be her cousin and married to a sexy Scot for three house to help them get their dream house. While it should be an easy quick fix it becomes so much more when se meets Tristan. He gets her blood pumping and when they end p having to spend days together she can't help but want him in every way. Tristan has done bad things in the past and now he is trying to make some things up. He doesn't deserve someone like Keri and while e tries his best to keep a distance it just isn't going to happen. Now he just has to hope his past isn't to much for Keri to take.
This was a quick read but really good. Keri in a lot of ways is not used to asking what she wants in sex or getting a good release. Tristan opens her eyes to how good it could be and shows her what she needs. She tries her best to keep it in her head that it is just a fling but has a hard time doing that. She is nothing like her cousin and at times the charade wears on her. Tristan is used to be the con man but e really does want to change. He learned his lesson the hard way. Keri is just the woman he needs in his life he just has to see it. The two have a great chemistry and it would be easy to believe they are honeymooners. If you like a quick story about a sexy Scot and enjoyable plot you may want to try this one.
