Well, how much problems will Tor have to face? How many times will he have to save his friends from danger?!
Well the most likely answer is this will definitely not be the first or last time
Note: spoiler alert from previous novels
Tor finds himself in a really difficult situation. He has been betrayed by one of his friends, his dragon is captured and some of his friends are captured or hurt pretty bad. And in order to save them he has to take a test, because he is one of a few who has the markings of the Ko.
Finishing this test can give him great power but failing means certain death for this friends. Will Tor be able to compete and finish the test on time?
This was great, fun to read and suspense! Really well written! Absolutely loved it!
Received a copy from the author herself, for an honest review, thank you!
Oh Tor, what are you doing? Putting yourself in such danger? Hope you will survive, to let the story flow on. Captivating story, getting better and better. love it.
Tor and his friends escape through the Door of Heavens and end up in the World of Legend, a strange place that will test him. If he falters or makes a mistake, he and his friends will suffer. The worst that could happen is death. Tor doesn't believe he's a hero, but he's not going to sit around and watch his friends die. He will pass the tests, because his friends are depending on him. But even Bataar, the more noble and properly prepared one, is not faring so well. And then, an enemy enters and things start falling apart! Will Tor figure out the clues and pass the final test in time?
I received an eARC of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.
“The power of death belongs to us all, but life serves no master.” SETTING: What is the point of passing legends on to the next generation? Is it not to teach important truths in a way that imprints them onto the mind of the taught one? In this volume we find truths important to teach our selves and our young ones-important to have a rich, full life as well as to impart good gifts to those around us. They are taught in dramatic, picturesque ways that will help US to remember them, and perhaps take them to heart. We learn a hidden function of the Doors of Heaven: one meant for those who the ancients see as worthy of further testing, to prove their fitness to lead their people through difficult times and trials. Tor goes through one of these doors and finds himself being set up to be tested. Failure in his part to pass the tests will mean death to him and necessitate the need for the ancients to look to another for his intended role. Only ones selected by the Worthies, the Ancient Ones, are allowed in. Tor must master the use of a set of precepts the ancients have determined prove fitness to both continue the test and to be considered for the intended role. These precepts are in the book of prophecy and Zin teaches them to Tor just prior to the test. What happens if someone breaks into this special area, trying to steal power and rulership for himself, ignoring ALL the precepts? Will this wicked one succeed or will the ancients be able to stop him? What happens if that someone succeeds?
CRITIQUE: WORLD OF LEGENDS seems, in a way, a pause in the story to teach US, the readers, the secrets of the ages that our ancient “worthies” want US to learn, along with Tor. That being said, each test is full of action, decision making, and an opportunity for Tor to lay bare before the Worthies his innermost self, for them to judge if he himself is worthy of the honors as well as sacrifices that will be his, if he is successful. I love this part of the storyline, as it adds depth to the entire series, helping us to see the underlying messages the author has been signaling to us throughout the story. The evil usurper seems a bit too real to be comfortable, as we see just such individuals today seeking to overturn traditions, values and the natural order of justice in the world. The relationship between Tor and Zyla becomes clearer to us, as well as to them, as we are privileged to see the steps these two take in their walk through this story. As we watch, we become more invested in the outworkings of this series. Although the series is appropriate for middle schoolers and beyond, as a grandmother I see many lessons I want to impart to my grandchildren, for them to have the best life possible. An outstanding series.
Ok, the good news is that my wonderful husband got me four, yes four, of Sarah K. L. Wilson’s amazing Dragon Chameleon books, volumes 6 to 9 (World of Legends, Chase the Moon, Shadow Quest and Creeping Darkness). The bad news is that these are so addictive that I’ve pretty much spent every waking hour (or at least every such hour when the staff at the hospital I’m currently virtually imprisoned in allow me) doing nothing but reading these. The yin and yang of it is that boy oh boy was doing so fun, but darn oh darn do I now need the next books in this amazing series! This series of relatively short tales continues to be a wild ride as we follow Tor, the reluctant hero, Shabren, their mimics, the Dragons Saboraak and Kyrowat, the Ka’vai, the golems threat, and so much more. Simply too much to summarize in a single review, but the publisher’s blurbs do the job well enough. Add to those summaries that these stories are superbly told, the characters in them wonderfully crafted and the overarching story arc pretty much perfect. Really, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. These books definitely deserve it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each of these books is most definitely “one to read”, and all of them are easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next books in this series.
Tor finds himself (and the others he took through the door to heaven) in a strange place. He found that Saboraak was almost underground, having been tied down and pulled under by tree roots. As she came with Bataar, her fate was tied to his. Tor was informed that he had to go trough trials and his companions fate was tied to his. The trials were only for those with Ko on their arms. He couldn't back out, as it was considered failure and failure was death. The only way he could get everyone through this was to tie his fate to Bataar and win this thing. Then they would all go home. Unfortunately he didn't know the rules. Then, something that shouldn't be able to happen, did happen. An impostor arrived and threatened the integrity of this entire world. This was the last person that he wanted to win this trial, so he had to win at all costs.
Take a deep breath before you start this book, because you won’t be able to breathe during. At least I wasn’t! Wo-o-o-o-o-ooooooow.
Tor has changed so much. No longer only focused on himself. He is now even protective of Saboraak. Fiercely protective! And oh, the poor boy is so hungry again! The way he reasons with himself and/or Saboraak is so funny! He is a bit cranky in this episode. For good reason. Sarcasm dripped off the page. And he’s stubborn. Yet he does learn a lot about himself! He learns how annoying he can be :)
I could NOT put this book down. Im.Pos.Si.Ble.
Quotes: “Weak or not, Saboraak was still able to chide me. I liked it.” “…magic was the worst. It was worse than girls and dragons combined.”
This series gets more amazing with each episode. I found myself totally absorbed in Tors quest . I was also in awe of the story that was created for our reading pleasure wondering just what goes on in the mind of the author. Maybe I shouldn’t dwell on that too much and simply say that, once again I was entertained and transported to another world. Fantastic read.
Oooh, I loved this episode. It is a very weird one with Tor and the others landing in an alternative world, the World of Legends, after going through the Doors of Heaven. Tor has to pass a test and once again, the lives of his companions and Saboorak depend on him not screwing up! Plus someone who shouldn't be able to shows up and shakes the world up...
A fantastic add to this series. As Tor has to face down these tasks, puzzles to save his friends. This read grabs you right away and has you on the edge of your seat. And before you no it your at the end of the book. The Author writes these acenes so well you can see them so vividly in your mind. A fantastic read. And a Definite must read. Shauna Joesten
This series keeps getting better and better with each episode! Tor's quest has pulled me in deep into this series as we watch all the action and suspense he has to go through. I love how he has grown as a person and is no longer self absorbed and is actually protective of Saboraak. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
Tor and Saboraak are in trouble and more than one life hangs in the balance. Tor has to complete a trial of tests in order to save them all. I adore Tor and his determination to save his friends, all the while claiming that he is no hero. Can't wait to see what happens next for Tor and all of his friends.
Whither great read on the Dragon chameleon series! Tor is queuing his way through the world of legends to save his companions. On the way he must submit to the tests of the precepts. Where he fails some and wings others but he must win the Duvall test or die along 26th those that came wuth him.... Omg I'm loving tor and cabby wait for each book
This brilliant series continues with Tor in a world of trouble. To save his friends and his beloved Dragon Saboraak he must complete the trials he does not understand and time is not on his side. Packed full of action, adventure and danger this is the best book in this series so far. I cannot recommend this book and series highly enough.
World of Legends, my thirtieth read from author Sarah K.L. Wilson & the sixth book in the Dragon Chameleon series. These serials read more like long chapters. A very quick read that you can't wait to get to the end of the page so you can turn the page and get to the end of the page so you can turn the page and get to the next book, you get the picture. I can’t wait for the next book.
Just as with the last book this one continues in its fast paced exciting intensity as Tor raises to complete the tasks given to him in order to save Saaborak and everyone else. The only thing I don't like as I've mentioned previously is the Zyla and Tor romance going on. And that ending too with Zyla bearing the Ko marks. I have so many questions.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
For someone who doesn't want to be a hero, Tor really has the worst of luck staying out of heroic situations. The fate of his friends and the world rest in his hands. This was fast paced and exhilarating. I can't wait to read the next book!
I enjoyed Sarah's first series, this one not at all. Tor is to whiny, to much dialog explaining why his so whiny. Not a series I can get into, I have tried, not sure I can continue.
Tor and Saboraak's adventure continues in this fast-paced, breath-holding ride of a story. Tor has gone through a door to the World of Legends. There he has to pass tests to save his friends. But who will save him? He continues to show how much of a hero he is. Love this series.
How does she do it, continually write such awesome stories. This one is full of excitement, danger, funny anecdotes and nail biting endings. This is another series that will please all dragon lovers. Grab a copy, enjoy. Highly recommend
This series is growing big on me. I started to like Tor as LIKE LIKE him as in the beginning he seemed like a totally unlikeable character. Will Tor manage to survive the World of Legends? Or will he make again a lot of bad choices? Check it out!
Tor gets himself and friends into to hottest of spots with no way out. Yet he always worms his way out. He is a gambler and is about to face the biggest gambles of his life.
Sarah writes a wonderful fantasy with dragons and gives her characters so much development, they feel like real people. Love the main character is the thief they caught and ended up helping them in the end. Love how he has to fight and wins in the end.
Right book six in the series, a series which is going from strength to strength. Tor is certainly one plucky guy. This one is probably the hardest one to date. Roll on book seven. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed reading this novella. It's a quicker read for those that are a bit pressed on time, and if you enjoy YA fantasy with dragons and plenty of adventure, you need to read this series.
Wow. It starts out as a tear jerker, and then jumps off a very tall tree and the only thing I could think of, I sure hope Saborak catches me. It was non-stop suspense.
