Self-Discipline: Develop Daily Habits to Program Your Mind, Build Mental Toughness, Self-Confidence and WillPower

Rate this book
This book is all about the wonderful world of self-control and self-discipline. Self-discipline is a wonderful thing. It can mean the difference between achieving goals or not achieving goals. It can give a person a greater sense of self-worth. It can allow someone the ability to work harder for a shorter amount of time and accomplish much more than before. Self-discipline can make the process of dropping bad habits in favor of good ones much easier to accomplish.

They have a greater sense of purpose overall and a greater sense of accomplishment in everyday life. Seeking self-discipline is the best way to a better life.Self-discipline is a goal that will only be accomplished by following a path that will cause a great deal of pain. Walking this path will require a good deal of hard work and dedication because this path is not an easy one to walk. Sometimes, people fall off. Sometimes, the direction of the path needs to be changed. Sometimes, the path needs to be broken up into smaller trips in order to be able to complete the whole journey.
Self-control and self-discipline require hard work and serious commitment. If a person is not really serious about the need to develop self-discipline, then it just will not happen. No one can give anyone else self-discipline. It needs to be learned within.
However, consider what happens if self-discipline is never developed. Can a person go on in life without ever developing any level of self-discipline? Of course, they can. What they will be missing out on is a lifetime of achievement. They will be giving up all sense of self-worth and self-fulfillment. They will lose out on the ability to replace bad habits with good ones. They will never know the joy of getting rid of addictions and temptations. They will be forever plagued by negative feelings of anger and regret and guilt. They will live their entire lives accomplishing nothing because they lack the necessary self-discipline to accomplish anything. They will not succeed.Of course, it is a purely personal choice. It is possible to live life without accomplishing anything. It is possible to just skate through life devoid of any sense of self-worth and self-love. It is possible to get to the end and never achieve any type of goal. However, what kind of life would that really be?
The best way is to begin today to work on personal goals. Start now by deciding which habits are bad and need to be replaced. Make a list of good habits that need to be cultivated. Decide when this new lifestyle will begin—keeping in mind that sooner is better. Write down all the goals that need to be achieved and all the good habits that need to be cultivated. Post this list where everyone can see it.

A 50-page book that could've been better summarized in an 800-word blog post.

Self-Discipline is supposed to be a handy guide on building what the title suggests. Yet, it comes off as too simplistic and repetitive. The examples used in the book are cliche and unnecessary at times. Feels more like someone is regurgitating all the self-discipline advice he heard through the years. If you are somewhat familiar with this type of advice, expect to find it in book form if you pick this up.

All advice that is given in this book is too obvious and simplistic to add value. Though not necessarily bad, I was expecting some more structure in Ray Vaden's advice. Not even a single chart or diagram.

The writing style & editing is horrendous. I found too many typos and errors that shouldn't have been overlooked if properly proofread. If you want a sample of the author's writing style, scroll up on this page and expand the book description. Exactly.

1/5 because I couldn't give less than 1 star. If you want self-discipline advice, go to a blog or YouTube video to save yourself the time and trouble.

Good motivational read. Listened to the audio as well. Stating what you already know is needed, but a good push in the right direction.

This book is about self-discipline and how to achieve your goals in life . Author has mentioned self-discipline is not easy and it dose not come over night , self discipline requires hard work and commitment.
This book is very straight forward , author Ray Vaden explains if you would like to achieve your goals write them down instead of keeping them in your mind, that way you can focus on your goals and also put effort to achieve them.
Self-discipline comes with pain ,but if you try to set your mind and try to be consistent, it is manageable and than you can accomplish your goals.

Suggestions i got from this book:
1. Get a mentor for yourself to look up to: how do they deal with difficulties, how do they being perseverance, persistent of what you also want to achieve in your life. What are their attitudes towards life? You can achieve this by reading biographies.
2. Step by step, Rome wasn't built in one day. Separate big goals to small parts and achieve one small part at a time, just like solving math problems. The foundation is important. So you need to pay effort on building the foundation.

The book is not too long and it was quick to listen to as an audiobook. The book itself is motivating and encouraging. Only one thing is that for me I have read some points in other books so it was not too novel to me. However, it does give me some good suggestions. z.B read biographies. This could be a great book when people need motivation and a reminder for being self-discipline.

Simplistic

Poorly written, poorly edited. Seems to be aimed at people completely lacking in any kind of common sense. Not helpful.

Good message

I liked the message, but it seems like the whole book just repeated the same thing over and over again.

Acquiring self discipline is a never ending journey. This book highlights the importance of persistence, perseverance and patience in our every day life.
It states from 1 to 10 the characteristics of self disciplined achievers.
The most important one being having a strong, well-defined sense of purpose in order to accomplish one's goal.

This book has shifted and transformed the way .
Mental toughness and willpower are explained in the most profound way.

It found me at the perfect time and listening to this as audio book made an even bigger impact on my retention on all the information in this book. I will revisit this book often for sure.

Well, there is absolutely nothing new in this book. But it was still interesting for me to listen to it on the way home or to work. To be honest, if I had read it, instead of listening, I would not even have finished reading this literature. Simply because the language and presentation of the book is very poor, not so entertaining as well. The stories are the same and repetitive.
The biggest plus in the book is the initial chapter
about the mentor, and the only thing that I remember from the book.

I listen to the audio version of this book. I was so excited. I wanted to get the actual paper book but some of the reviews on Amazon turn me away. Information provided in the audio version was great information. I actually went back the next day and took notes. I would like to get a paperback version but again a lot of the Buyers on Amazon said they were disappointed with the paper back version. I am looking forward to reading additional books by this author.

I'v read this book in 1 day. Alot will be sayed that you have to program and reply the lucrative activity. One subject can be long wich in many self development books is repeated. Ofcourse it will motivate and even stimulate you to be disciplined.

What I realized after reading (listening to the audiobook to be more accurate) is that people who have self-discipline are happier. They have a greater sense of purpose and a greater sense of accomplishment in everyday life.

This is a great, straight to the point book on the practice of self-discipline. I like refreshers on the practice of self-discipline when I feel myself getting in a rut in one or more areas of my life. It often allows me to have a new self-awareness as to what I have been failing to see/do.

The book gave a good message but it repeated the same thing over and over again. Most of the things were of common sense and not informative.

This book does exactly as the title would suggest. The book does seem to written in a very matter of fact type of way. I'd imagine this type of writing isn't preferred by all. Though if you're reading this book, I'd guess you'd already know what to expect.
