DCI Anna Tate #2

Anna is given the case of a young woman who had been found naked, with her throat cut, in the woods. We also get more on the backstory about Anna's daughter who had been kidnapped by her ex husband twelve years ago. The murder victim just happens to be the daughter of an ex police commissioner. Holly had been a freelance model. Her lover had also been an MP. Anna. Is now under pressure to get this murder case solved.

This book in my opinion is better than the first. It's gripping and fast paced. I like the authors style in writing. The plot is well constructed with several twists that kept me guessing. A police procedural that is very enjoyable. Anna is getting closer to finding her daughter and the developments lead to a dramatic ending to this book. I look forward to reading more books in this very likeable series

I would like to thank NetGalley, Avon Books UK and the author J. P. Carter for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

At Your Door is the second book in the DCI Anna Tate series. Last year I read the first book - In Safe Hands and absolutely loved it so I was excited to read the next book. It certainly lived up to my expectations and once again left me wanting more - bring on book 3!!

This book picks up just a few weeks after the events of In Safe Hands. This book can be read as a stand alone but I recommend reading them in order to get the full back story of Anna. Anna and her team are called to a horrific murder scene at Barnes Common. A young woman has been murdered and her identity makes this a high profile case, throwing Anna into the spotlight once again. The woman is the daughter of a prominent MP and the family is hiding all sorts of secrets. While all of this is happening there has also been developments in the case of Anna's missing daughter Chloe. Anna struggles to stay on top of both cases and is in serious danger of burnout.

Thanks to Avon Books UK and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.

I decided to read this book because I absolutely loved the last book in safe hands. I really like the Anna Tate books and this definitely didn’t disappoint. It was a thrilling read and I loved every page. I found the ending really sad but I can’t wait to read more from the Anna Tate series. I really want to know what happens next. The writing was amazing and the characters were all really interesting. I’m so excited to read more from this author.

At Your Door is the second police procedural in the DCI Anna Tate series and is even more compulsive and compelling than the first. It isn't essential to have read the first instalment before this but I would recommend it in order to understand Anna's character and motivations. Only a fortnight has passed since her last case was closed and now Anna and her team are thrown into a world of rumour and press interest. Model Holly Blake has been found murdered in Barnes park with her throat brutally cut but what they uncover about her life and the company she keeps opens up a huge can of worms. Meanwhile, as they try to contain the fallout of their discoveries, Anna finds renewed hope in her search for missing daughter, Chloe, as an interview produces some promising new leads.

The dual plotlines, unlike in many other thrillers, are equally as intriguing as one another and I found it a difficult book to put down; I literally read until my eyes would no longer stay open. Both storylines have some very unexpected and unguessable twists in the tale, which I thoroughly enjoyed. There is intensity, suspense, mystery and plenty to engage your emotions, and it is a beautifully written and constructed novel, which is gripping from first page to last. It had me burning to know where it was all heading and I found the fact that the plot was grounded and based in reality made it even more enjoyable for me. As for Anna, she is a hard worker and takes her profession very seriously, however, we know little about her personal life besides daughter Chloe's parental abduction. Roll on book three! Many thanks to Avon for an ARC.

"At Your Door" is JP Carter's second book in the DCI Anna Tate series.

The book was my first Anna Tate book and is a standalone read.

Although I enjoyed the book, I had issues with the book's pacing.

I listened to the audiobook expertly narrated by Laura Kirman.

This 10-hour audiobook easily could have been a 7-hour book.

At Your Door is a great new release in the DCI Anna Tate series; I heard great things about the first, In Safe Hands, and was hoping that the second would live up to that reputation. It certainly did! What I love about this series is that it has so many elements of a great crime series for me – a strong female lead, plenty of police procedurals, some twists without being unbelievable, and an easy to read but interesting plot. At Your Door ticked all these boxes and was a thoroughly entertaining read!

I feel that this could easily be enjoyed as a stand alone novel, but if you read them in order you’ll of course understand a little more about Anna as a character and her past.

This book has almost two concurrent storylines: one focusing on Anna and the team’s investigation into the murder of a young model, Holly – who also happens to be the daughter of a prominent politician; and another to do with Anna’s missing daughter Chloe. Both storylines are really intriguing and kept me turning the pages throughout – I read this book in a matter of hours!

There are some gritty parts to this story as well as suspense, and this in addition to the great characters and the well-constructed plot, makes this a truly brilliant read in what is definitely now one of my favourite new crime series!

I loved DCI Anna Tate, and I loved author J. P. Carter style of writing this story. It is bloody brilliant, if I may say so. It is a police procedural where Anna was called to solve the murder of a young girl Holly whose body was found in the woods. Anna Tate was supported by a good hardworking team, forensics, and sheer dogmindedness and commitment to solve the murder.

My second book by J. P. Carter, and I was so deliriously happy when the author gave me a second story about Anna's daughter running parallel to the main one. Anna's daughter had been kidnapped by her ex husband 12 years ago, and her search was on.

I loved Anna, I know I am repeating the sentence, but the way she could compartmentalize her personal and professional life was nothing short of brilliance. Knowing that her daughter was so close yet so far could create havoc in a mother's mind. It is the author's sheer talent that has etched a character like Anna who has now become so close to my heart.

The plot lines of both the story were convoluted. Nothing was at it appeared. The story of Holly went through various curves. Just when I thought it had reached a finale, there was another layer to it. Whoa!! Made for exciting reading. The parallel story about her daughter had a gamut of emotions running through it, along with a twist. Omg can you see what this author can do?!!

J. P. Carter's books seem to have hypnotized me. I was supposed to red only for an hour, but to my amazement, I spent the entire morning reading this book. I clearly was completely lost in the book. As you can guess, I loved the book, the character, and this author.

At Your Door by J.P. Carter is the second installment of a series focused on DCI Anna Tate. Having not read the introduction to the series, I venture to say that this book works absolutely fine as a standalone. I will, however, add the first novel, In Safe Hands, to my 'tbr' list. I look forward to delving deeper into the character of DCI Tate, and would love to catch up on the backstory of her daughter's disappearance.

DCI Anna Tate is called in to investigate the murder of a young woman, and a prominent politician appears to be the prime, and only, suspect. But this particular case is not all that consumes Anna. Ten years previously, her two year old daughter had been abducted by her ex-husband, and Anna has never given up hope of finding her. As the narrative shifts between the current case and the ten years in which she has continued to search for her darling Chloe, we are able to glean a glimpse of Anna's tortured psyche.

The author has crafted a gripping police procedural and a decade old mystery, and woven them harmoniously into an absolutely engrossing and fully compelling read. I did not want this one to end, and look forward to the continuation of the series.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC.

I really enjoyed the previous book in the series, thought DCI Anna Tate was tenacious and thorough. I immediately liked her.
In this one, she is again brilliant, approaching what proves to be a sensitive case involving MPs showing diligence and professionalism whilst having her own personal turmoil.
The perpetrator was a surprise but I had picked up a clue in the story which led me to this person.
The back story was rumbling on which I thought was brought to a tumultuous end.
Great writing, full of excitement and police procedurals.

It's my first read from the author and although I haven't read the first book in the series I didn't felt like missing anything because the author has given plenty clues and details about what happened in the past that I could see a bigger picture of the story.
I always loved policed procedural stories and this book didn't disappoint me at all.
The two different stories/cases are full of twists and turns , some were predictable some were very unexpected and that's what made me read the book in one sitting and I'll definitely recommend this book to any of my friends who are looking for a great read.
I'll looking forward to read more books by the author in the series because the main character is one of my favourites so far this year.

At your Door By J.P Carter is the second in the DCI Anna Tate series. I have not read the first but, you can read this as a standalone.
A young woman is found dead on Barnes common and when she is identified, it happens that she is the daughter of ex police commissioner turned MP. Her Name Holly Blake a Freelance Model, not only that, her lover is also an MP. DI Anna Tate is under pressure from her bosses and the media to find the killer.
We also continue to learn the search of Anna’s daughter Chloe. Who was abducted by her ex-husband, Anna hasn’t seen her in ten years but after a newspaper interview, new leads open for her? Sophie who has been looking after Chloe (Alice she is now called) for 7 years after Sophie’s husband was murdered by her husband. But Chloe disappears one day and Sophie needs Anna’s help to find her.
This is a gripping fast paced thriller, that I really enjoyed especially about the hunt for Chloe. I loved it so much I will be reading the others in this series.

DCI Anna Tate is working a high profile murder case only weeks after the kidnapping case of the nursery children. The media are all over Anna because of her daughter’s abduction and she is in the public eye. While working the case she gets news that there has been sightings of a girl matching her daughter could this be true?

This was as great as the first one and I loved it. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Avon Books for an advance copy of At Your Door, the second novel to feature DCI Anna Tate of the Met.

It is just two weeks since the conclusion of her last case but birthday celebrations are put on hold when Anna and the team get called out to a murder. A young woman has been found murdered in a Barnes park. She is soon identified as freelance model Holly Blake and what they discover about Holly’s life and friends brings them a world of pressure and press interest. In the meantime a newspaper interview about Anna’s missing daughter, Chloe, produces some leads and fresh hope.

I thoroughly enjoyed At Your Door which has two compelling plot lines and completely unexpected resolutions. The two stories run in tandem as the narrative alternates between them. Holly’s murder is a self contained plot but the Chloe tale is a continuation from the previous novel, In Safe Hands but to be fair the author recaps all the salient points so there is no need to have read it before starting this one.

I love a good procedural so I was surprised to find Chloe’s story the more compelling of the two. Don’t get me wrong, both are well constructed plots with a series of reveals in all the right places, several twists and the aforementioned unexpected resolutions but the Chloe plots edges it for tension, mystery and emotion. I was gripped, desperate to know where it was going and why. In comparison the scope of Holly’s investigation is so wide she kind of gets lost in it so it’s hard to feel the same affinity although I loved the depiction of the press hysteria surrounding her murder which seems extremely realistic.

I don’t feel that I know DCI Anna Tate all that well, even after two novels. I like the way she grabs hold of her cases with authority, rattling off lists of tasks in a clear headed way. That’s my idea of a professional police officer. Mostly, though, she’s defined by her loss of and hunt for Chloe who was kidnapped by her father ten years previously as a two year old. It would be good to see her personality expanded in future novels.

At Your Door is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

2.5 stars rounded up. This is a police procedural with two separate intertwined plots. The narrative jumps from one to the other, each time reminding us of certain facts or details of the past. As I listened to the audiobook, I found this useful at first, but by the second half it began to irritate me, making my mind wander: I felt the reveal at the end was being drawn out too much. Also, I had slight difficulty finding empathy with the main character, DCI Anna Tate, because I didn't like the accent the narrator had chosen for her.

However, these comments are very subjective, and I haven't read the first novel in the series, so please give it a try yourself and make up your own mind.

Another gripping read in the Detective Anna Tate series. The backstory of the abduction of Anna's daughter, 10 years ago, is as nerve wracking as the plot which centres around the murder of a young woman. A very interesting plot and as it unfolded there were several suspects for the murder. This book certainly kept me guessing. A really good read

This is the second book in this series and it’s a fantastic read.
Anna is called out to the murder of a young woman and as more information comes to light about who she is, tensions start to rise.
When her home is checked they find secrets that she’s been hiding that send shockwaves through her family.
The girl’s mum used to be high up in the Police force and is now an MP and is devastated by her daughter’s death.
The press don’t care about feelings and splash the story everywhere, putting more pressure on Anna and the team to find the killer.
Anna is also getting closer to finding her daughter and developments lead to a dramatic ending of the book.
I loved this book and can’t wait to read the next one.
This is a highly addictive crime series that you won’t want to end.
Thanks to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading J. P. Carter's first novel to feature DCI Anna Tate. The first book in the series is called 'In Safe Hands'. I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of the next book in the series called 'At Your Door'. Well ladies and gents the wait is over as 'At Your Door' was released on 22nd July in e-book format and 8th August 2019 in paperback format. I dived straight into the book and blooming nora it is certainly a read and a half. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'At Your Door' but more about that in a bit.
What can I say about Detective Chief Inspector Anna Tate? She is certainly one hell of a courageous and determined woman. Her personal life has been traumatic to say the least. Her husband fled with their daughter and he has moved around from place to place, which makes tracing them even more difficult. Anna hasn't seen her daughter in roughly 10 years. Naturally she misses her daughter and she has tried everything she can think of to find her daughter with limited success. I really feel for Anna and I can't begin to imagine what she must be going through with the not knowing where her daughter is and fearing for her daughter's safety when she attends crime scenes. I did wonder if Anna's private life might encroach on her professional life but for the majority of the time Anna keeps her private life and her professional life in separate boxes. Anna is a successful and dedicated police officer, who strives to carry out her role to the best of her ability. She is in charge of a small team and the team is very successful. Anna leads from the front and she will back her team members to the hilt but she would be the first one to let you know when you made a mistake. Anna takes on more than her fair share of the workload and often carries out the more dangerous and risky tasks. Anna is determined, conscientious, stubborn, diplomatic, tactful, sensitive, compassionate and sensitive. She seems to be the sort of boss I would love to work for. I took to Anna from the start and it didn't take long for me to consider Anna to be a good friend of mine.
Oh my giddy aunt, 'At The Door' certainly proved to be an addictive read for me. As soon as I began to read that was it, I knew I wouldn't be able to put the book down and woe betide anybody who tried to prise the book out of my hands. The book wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because the book went everywhere with me. The book had developed a hold over me and I didn't want to risk breaking that hold by putting the book to one side for even a second. I managed to binge read the book over the course of a day, but because I was enjoying the book so much I didn't notice the speed with which the time was passing nor how quickly the pages were turning. It seemed to take next to no time to reach the end of the book, which I was most disappointed about. I wasn't disappointed with how the story ended but I was enjoying the storylines, the characters and the author's writing style so much that I just didn't want the book to end.
'At The Door' is brilliantly written. The author certainly caught my attention from the start with a prologue that is truly shocking and he kept my attention throughout the book by keeping the story fresh and the characters interesting. The author writes so realistically and uses such great descriptions that I really did feel as though I was character in the book myself and that I was also a member of Anna's team. The story starts slow but much like a snowball rolling down a hill, the story gathers momentum leading to a tense and dramatic conclusion.
Reading this book was much like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with more twists and turns than you would find on a 'Snakes & Ladders' board. Some of the twists I guessed and some that I didn't see coming and when they came along, I was left stunned and I had the breath knocked out of me.
In short, 'At Your Door' is one very good read. I thought that 'In Safe Hands' was good but for me, 'At Your Door' blows 'In Safe Hands' out of the water. I would definitely recommend this book to other readers and particularly to those readers who enjoy books written by the likes of Katerina Diamond and M. J. Arlidge. I can't wait to read what J. P. Carter comes up with next. Here's hoping that we don't have too long to wait. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

*thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books UK and the author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

4 stars.

I am not crying. I'm not crying, I swear. These? Ohh they aren't tears, my eyes are just leaking.

This book! Ohh my god! The last 10% was just intense! It did not end how I'd thought it would given all I'd previously read in the story, but wow. I can't believe I have to wait 5 months for the third book in this amazing series. It's going to be a very long 5 months.

I loved so much about this story. It follows on from book 1 and not much time at all has passed which I appreciated. It made it easier to get into the story. Like the first, this to was full of mystery of what really happened and how. I was surprised by the outcome but I felt that the author chose it very well. Ohh there is so much I can't say but this was such a delight to read and I wanted to read it faster that I did. It's not often that I find books in a series that are Mystery Thriller types where the second book is just as good as the first.

I liked that with this book that it also had the two stories intertwining. One story was about Holly Blake, the girl who was murdered. I loved that I had picked the wrong ending for this. It's always good to have a surprising outcome. The second story was about DCI Anna Tate and her missing daughter. Now I can not go into that but I can say that I really enjoyed the suspense of it and the fact that it threw a twist at me! Again, so much I wanna say but I'm buying my tounge!

Have I mentied how much I want book 3? This series is amazing and I really really like DCI Anna Tate. I find her such a wonderful character. I think her boyfriend Tom needs a shout out aswell for how great he is.

I can honestly not think of a bad thing about this book or anything I didn't like. I'm adding J.P Carter to my list of favourite authors. I highly recommend this series. It will keep you hooked until way past the very end.

Unfortunately, I had a terrible time becoming interested in this book. The murder of Holly Blake was the main plot and the subplot was regarding the abduction of Anna’s child, which happened in the first book. In my case, had there not been a subplot I would have found the book extremely hard to finish. However, in all fairness, I didn’t read the first book in this series, which might have helped.

Also, though I like to be reminded of things, the story was very repetitive. And I’m not talking about in reference to the previous book, where Anna’s child was abducted, I’m referring to this book. There were constant reminders of who a certain person was or what they’d previously said, etc.

The only suspense I felt was that of locating Anna’s daughter. I was curious about the outcome of that more than anything, and how it would be handled.

What Concerned Me:
For whatever reason, I just didn’t feel very interested in the first part of this book. It was okay, it just didn’t grab me. And as I mentioned earlier, there was a lot of repetition.

What I Liked Best:
I liked the subplot and I was very interested in the outcome. In my opinion, the author handled the situation as well as it could have been under the circumstances. I was completely satisfied with it.

My Rating: Even though I’ve given this 3 Stars, please read more reviews. Many people speak quite highly of the book. This just may not have been my cup of tea.

At Your Door is the second book in the DCI Anna Tate series.
This is an amazing and compelling read once again from this author.
Fast paced and full of suspense, twist and turns.
Wonderfully written characters that you can actually feel the emotions coming off the pages as you read them.
The plot and story line are written so very well that you are gripped from the first page to the last.
I do hope the author is planning more of these as I love them.
Recommend reading.

Stunning! My heart was racing rapidly at the end of this book. You actually get 2 for the price of 1 as there are two investigations that come to a head. Can't say too much about one of them as it involves the back story of DCI Anna Tate's abducted child. All I will say is WOW!
The other investigation is that of murdered Holly Blake, a young 20-something model whose mother was an ex Assistant Commissioner for the Met and is now running for the poistion of Mayor of London. Her step-dad Theo is a prominent lawyer and a high ranking MP Nathan Wolf also becomes embroiled in the investigation as a suspect. Ex boyfriend, stalker Ross is a suspect too and then there is aunt Freya and her husband Robert who enter the scene when yet more secrets are uncovered.
This book is even better than the first In Safe Hands. I love the police partnership between Anna Tate and DI Max Walker as well as the relationship Anna has with her social worker boyfriend Tom. Will she eventually commit to him, let him move in and allow herself to be loved? And will she pull off another successful investigation and discover why Holly Blake ended up naked under a pile of leaves on Barnes Common?
The third book in this series cannot be published quick enough for me. Please hurry up JP Carter, pretty please!

There's no doubt, you can feel the anticipation in ᴀᴛ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴅᴏᴏʀ. J.P Carter has managed to continue on with the disappearance of DCI Anna Tate's daughter Chloe, and include a sub plot involving the murder of a politicians daughter. And both storylines are as thrilling and addictive as each other!

I became really invested in the abduction of Anna's daughter in the previous novel, and was thrilled to see the continuation. However, the circumstances surrounding the past ten years is quite disturbing, granted that Chloe's caregiver Sophie is being hunted down by her ex husband and his mates, seeking revenge. We also have a case of a woman who has became very close to a child whom isn't her own, very afraid to give her up but certainly acts out on a mother's sacrifice when Chloe is placed in danger.

As for the investigation surrounding the murder of Holly Blake, it's a case of multiple suspects, but the real killers are hidden in plain sight... They're someone who you don't suspect at all!

Honestly, I'm so excited to read the conclusion of this addictive series!!

After reading and enjoying ''In Safe Hands', I was very excited to start this one, and I certainly wasn't disappointed.
I was gripped from page 1!
I can't say much about this book without spoiling it, but with realistic detective work, a compelling murder mystery, excellent characters and of course this continuation of Anna's hunt for her missing daughter; this book was unputdownable! The ending was a tad rushed but I ended the book very excited for the next!

So when I first started this book it did not capture me right away and I am not sure why. But I gave it a second run and enjoyed it. Anna Tate has the backstory of having her daughter kidnapped at age 2 by her ex-husband and that backstory is one significant part of this book. There is also a murder mystery which I have to say I did not figure out ahead of time. There were many twists. The backstory I did predict some parts of it and I am happy that the third in the series is out so I can further follow that story. I have not read book one but did not find that affecting my reading of this book. The author covered the necessary back story. I enjoy Anna Tate and am already into book 3 so I can stay with her.

I have loved catching up with DCI Anna Tate as the team are called in when a young woman is found dead on Barnes Common,As Anna and her team are tasked with finding out who the victim is and why was she murdered in this way. Also Anna is still searching for her daughter Chloe, she must as always put her missing daughter to the back of her mind so as to consentrate on the murder.I won't spoil the book for others only to say well worth 5*
