Πολύ ωραίο εφηβικό βιβλίο! Ωραία δουλεμένοι ήρωες! Δεν συμβαίνουν πολλά, όμως ο αναγνώστης ζει μαζί τους τις στιγμές που περνούν στην πισίνα της πόλης. Ρατσισμός, φτώχεια, έρωτας, διαφορετικότητα αναφέρονται χωρίς ο συγγραφέας να στρέφει τον προβολέα πάνω στα ζητήματα αυτά. Και μια αδελφική αγάπη που συγκινεί.

When in Will Gmehling's award-winning 1919 middle grade novel Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel the three Bukowski siblings (ten year old Alfred/Alf, eight year old Katinka and seven year old Robbie) manage to rescue an unsupervised toddler from drowning at an indoor public swimming pool (a Hallenbad in German) their reward is a whole summer of free swimming at the local Freibad, from the fifteenth of May to the fifteenth of September, every day rain or shine (and the German noun das Freibad does not mean as one might think a free swimming pool, but a public outdoor pool and which would of course thus only be open during the summer months until the middle of September). And yes, for Alf, Katinka and Robbie, since the Bukowski family does not have a lot of money, going away somewhere abroad for vacation is therefore simply out of the question, free swimming for the entire summer (for over one-hundred days) is an amazing and a very much personally appreciated reward, and thus the three siblings take full advantage of their reward and indeed go swimming at the Freibad every single day, with Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel showing how each of the children has specific goals for the summer, that Alfred wants to successfully dive from the ten metre tower, that Katinka wants to learn how to do the crawl and that Robbie is supposed to finally learn how to swim (since at present, since at the beginning of Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel he still just splashes around in the shallow end of the pool).

Well, when I first started reading Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel, I was perhaps a wee bit concerned that a novel set entirely at an outdoor swimming pool and dealing only with what the Bukowski siblings experience there might get a bit tedious. But no, there are a lot of interesting, readable and also relatable scenarios encountered in Will Gmehling's featured text and that Alf, Katinka and Robbie also work on themselves and develop as the summer progresses during Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel, with all three attaining their above mentioned goals, with Alf equally experiencing his first crush, Katinka teaching herself French since she wants to one day be a fashion model and live in Paris and with shy and hugely introverted Robbie's observations (when he chooses to talk, when he decides to say something) being not only usually spot-on so to speak but also kind of flabbergasting his brother and sister in a very good and indeed often humorous way (and not to mention that it has also been absolutely delightful with Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel encountering and reading a German language and award winning children's novel where the author does not deal with huge issues, with WWII, with migrants, politics, social issues, problematic romantic drama etc. but is simply showing a fun and entertaining story of three siblings enjoying themselves at and in the Freibad, and that Alf's first person narration for Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel also both makes me smile and also makes me nostalgically remember visiting outdoor swimming pools in Germany when I was nine and ten years of age, before we immigrated to Canada in 1976).

Finally, yes, yes, yes, both my inner child and also adult I have pretty much adored absolutely everything about Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel, and not just the swimming, not just that Will Gmehling has penned a perfectly lovely summer tale with no huge dramatics and no issue heavy thematics, but also that in Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel, Alfred, Katinka and Robbie are shown as enjoying close sibling bonds with no rivalry, with no nastiness etc. that Alfred and Katinka also do not at all care that Robbie is very introverted, never feels like talking all that much, how they totally accept their little brother and appreciate him for how and who he is and equally do not attempt to change him either (except for in Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel Alf and Katinka teaching Robbie how to swim, but that this has actually come from Robbie himself, as he wants to learn and not to be permanently stuck in the shallow end of the swimming pool anymore). So five stars for Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel, highly recommended, but with the caveat that Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel has not been translated into English and is at present only available in the German original as well as in Slovenian, Italian, Russian and Spanish translations (and I did notice that the Spanish edition seems to be quite readily available on ABE Books). But yes, if you have an intermediate level and above fluency in German, you should definitely be able to read and easily understand Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel (and that Gmehling's text is also nicely middle grade reader friendly and thus also not too difficult and certainly not in any way academic in scope and feel either). Oh and by the way, my edition of Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel (which is a paperback copy that was ordered for me by my local independent bookstore) also has teaching suggestions and activities (which is a neat idea if Freibad - Ein ganzer Sommer unter dem Himmel is to be used in the classroom but which I personally also tend to find just a wee bit distracting).

Man patinka knygos apie paprastumą ir paprastus džiaugsmus. Ne fancy, ne blizgučius ar fanfaras, bet santykius ir ryšį, ir kasdienybės grožį. Oši knyga tokia. Rodanti, kad jei šeimoje tėtis ir mama sutaria, tai jau džiaugsmas, jei turi brolių ir sesių, kurie kartais užknisa, tai irgi džiaugsmas, jei gali bendrauti su bet kokiais žmonėmis - emigrantais, pabėgeliais, benamiais, jų neišskiriant - tavo paties horizontai prasiplėčia, jei gali siekti mažų kasdienių tikslų ir turi su kuo pasiekimais pasidžiaugti - esi laimingas.

"Gi tokių ir panašių dalykų nuolat nutinka, diena iš dienos.
Ir tai yra laimė."

Priekaištėlių, jei jau parašyta, kad skirta vaikams nuo 8 metų, tiesa turėčiau. Mąsčiau, kaip trims vaikams vieniems leidžiama visas dienas mirkti baseine be tėvų. Pergyvenau, kad ir įkvėpt naktiniams žygiams ši knygelė galėtų, todėl kaip mamai man skeptiškumas įsijungia. O tada, kaip vaikas, atsimenu, kad išmokau plaukti upėje su kiemo vaikais ir nežinau, kur mano tėvai tuo metu buvo, tai kaip ir lygybė. Nuo dujų tilto į Nevėžį šokus esu ir plaukus per sraunią upę, vėlgi su draugais - irgi. 😅 Va ir nežinau, kur čia dabar palinkus saugumo klausimais, kurie susilaukus vaikų galvoje kiek kitaip skambėt pradeda.

O šiaip, tikrai patiko akcentuoti santykiai, paprastumas ir kad turėdamas tarsi fiziškai nedaug, gali būti ramus ir laimingas. 💛 Knyga ne veltui skina apdovanojimus.

Sembla mentida com una novel·la juvenil sobre tres germans que passen l'estiu anant cada dia a la piscina municipal m'ha pogut agradar tant! Malgrat la premissa tan senzilla, aquesta obra ens presenta uns personatges entranyables que, juntament amb la rutina i la dinàmica entre els germans, són el punt fort del llibre. Menció especial al Robbie, un somiador empedreït amb un cor immens, i la Katinka, una glamurosa francòfila atrapada en el cos d'una nena de 8 anys.
M'ha deixat un regust nostàlgic dels estius d'infància, però alhora una sensació de confort en veure una família tan ben avinguda que gaudeix dels petits moments de la vida ❤️

Ένα από τα πιο ωραία βιβλία που διάβασα τελευταία είναι το Καλοκαίρι στην Πισίνα του Βιλ Γκμέλινγκ

Θα ήθελα να σημειώσω κάποια πράγματα τεχνικής φύσεως.
Η πλοκή του βιβλίου είναι υποτυπώδης όπως έχουν επισημάνει πολλοί. Αυτό όμως δεν σημαίνει ότι δεν έχει και δομή. Μπορεί τα σημεία καμπής της πλοκής να είναι αμυδρά, να μην είναι κραυγαλέα, ωστόσο βρίσκονται στη θέση τους και επιτελούν πολύ σημαντικό ρόλο τόσο στη ρυθμική αγωγή του κειμένου όσο και στον γενικότερο τόνο του. Ο αναγνώστης μπορεί να μην «βλέπει» την πλοκή. Αλλά νιώθει σίγουρα τη δομή.

Η ιστορία ξεκινάει με δράση. Το ξεκίνημα in medias res είναι κάτι που συναντάμε συχνά στη λογοτεχνία για παιδιά. Για τον αυτονόητο λόγο ότι μπορεί να αιχμαλωτίσει αμέσως την περιέργεια και το ενδιαφέρον του αναγνώστη. Ενδεχομένως να θεωρείται λίγο «εμπορικό» και εύπεπτο ξεκίνημα, αλλά και ο Κάφκα έτσι δεν ξεκινάει τις ιστορίες του; Κατά τη γνώμη μου, πρόκειται για συναρπαστικό ξεκίνημα.

Στο βιβλίο διακρίνεται αρχή, μέση και τέλος. Η αρχή πιάνει μόλις λίγες σελίδες. Το πρώτο act break γίνεται όταν τα παιδιά-κεντρικοί ήρωες της ιστορίας μπαίνουν στην πισίνα. Στην πρώτη πράξη ο συγγραφέας έχει φροντίσει να μας συστήσει τους χαρακτήρες, να μας δείξει τα θέλω και τους στόχους τους, να φωτίσει την κάπως δυσμενή κατάσταση από την οποία ξεκινάνε και να μας εισαγάγει στα βασικά θέματα που διατρέχουν την ιστορία και θα αναπτυχθούν πλήρως αργότερα.

Η δεύτερη πράξη είναι δυσανάλογα μεγάλη. Αλλά έχει το midpoint στη θέση του (η απόφαση των παιδιών να πάνε βράδυ στην πισίνα), το low point επίσης (η αποπομπή της Κατίνκας από την πισίνα), καθώς και όλα τα υπόλοιπα σημεία που επηρεάζουν (και ας μην αλλάζουν δραστικά) τον ρου της ιστορίας.

Στην τρίτη πράξη δεσπόζει η κλιμάκωση (η προσπάθεια των παιδιών να μπούνε νύχτα στην πισίνα και να μην γίνουν αντιληπτά από κανέναν). Και ένα πολύ συγκινητικό ως προς τη δύναμη της απλότητάς του denouement, μια λύση της ιστορίας δηλαδή που δίνει απλόχερα την αίσθηση της ανταμοιβής στον αναγνώστη.

Τα τέσσερα βασικά στοιχεία που φτιάχνουν τον ορίζοντα μιας πολύ αποτελεσματικής αφήγησης υπάρχουν και εδώ: τραύμα, inciting incident, θέμα και κλιμάκωση. Στο Καλοκαίρι στην Πισίνα μάλιστα υπάρχει και μια πέμπτη πολύ χαρακτηριστική δύναμη, το θέλω των ηρώων. Αυτό είναι ουσιαστικά που τραβάει την ιστορία μπροστά, σε συνάρτηση φυσικά με τα τέσσερα προαναφερθέντα στοιχεία.

Η δεύτερη πράξη έχει λόγο που είναι τόσο δυσανάλογα μεγάλη σε σχέση με τα άλλα μέρη του κειμένου. Ενώ στην πρώτη και στην τρίτη πράξη οι γραμμές τραβάνε ίσια μπροστά, στο κεντρικό μέρος μιας μυθ��πλασίας εμφανίζονται συχνά λανθάνοντες αφηγηματικοί κύκλοι. Αυτοί οι κύκλοι παραπέμπουν στις μικρές κυκλικές τελετουργίες από τις οποίες συντίθεται η καθημερινότητά μας και μας ησυχάζουν ψυχολογικά και συναισθηματικά. Αλλά αποτελούν και εγγενή λειτουργία της μυθοπλαστικής διαδικασίας σύμφωνα με την οποία τα αφηγηματικά συμβάντα φτιάχνουν δυαδικότητες, έρχονται σαν αντηχήσεις, δημιουργούν μοτίβα, λούπες σε παραλλαγές, συνειρμικά ή αντιθετικά ζεύγη.

Όλη η δεύτερη πράξη είναι σπαρμένη από τέτοιες λειτουργίες. Για αυτό συχνά, όταν τη γράφουμε νιώθουμε ότι βρισκόμαστε σε έναν λαβύρινθο από όπου δεν μπορούμε να ξεφύγουμε. Ενώ όταν τη διαβάζουμε νιώθουμε ότι δεν θέλουμε να φύγουμε από εκεί.

Stilistisch war das Buch im ersten Moment gewöhnungsbedürftig, dann haben mich aber gerade die vielen kurzen Sätze und das hohe Erzähltempo angesprochen. Erzähler Alf wirkt authentisch und war mir, genau wie die gesamte Familie Bukowski, sehr sympathisch. Zudem gelingt es dem Autor mühelos, ein sehr diverses Set an Figuren zu schaffen. Die Flüchtlingsjungen fügen sich ebenso selbstverständlich in die Geschichte ein wie die international bekannten Fußballspieler, der obdachlose Flaschensammler und die topfite ältere Dame. Jeder Figur wird Wertschätzung entgegengebracht und alle werden liebevoll dargestellt.

És un llibre juvenil XULÍSSIM! Malgrat ser juvenil per a un públic d'entre 11 a 15 anys preferiblement, l'hauria de llegir tothom, perquè a través de la mirada i la narració d'un nen de 10 anys te n'adones de moltes coses, n'aprens moltes altres, i reflexiones sobre d'altres moltes. Tens l'oportunitat de viure tot un estiu amb els germans Bukowski, a quin més curiós i entranyable... jajajajajaja molt graciosos els tres. El que més destaco: la naturalitat amb la qual l'Alf, el nen narrador, explica certs aspectes importants i necessaris a nivell social, o actua davant de certes situacions que tenen a veure especialment amb el tracte amb "l'altre", amb el "diferent".

Es una novela corta, ágil, fresca y muy tierna.
En esta novela pasamos el verano con los hermanos Bukowski, Alf, Katinka y Robbie, que después de salvar un bebé de ahogarse, ganan una entrada gratuita para pasar todo el verano en la piscina.
A través de la narración de Alf, vemos como avanzan en sus objetivos acuáticos y como explica, con naturalidad e inocencia, aspectos de su día a día en la piscina, las relaciones entre los hermanos y otros personajes que aparecen a lo largo de la novela y como actúan ante algunas situaciones más complejas.
A medida que lees y conoces los personajes, te va saliendo una sonrisa y quieres hacerte amigo de ellos.
Una novela ideal para las vacaciones.

Όταν ξεκινάς τις καλοκαιρινές σου διακοπές με ένα παιδικό βιβλίο με τίτλο «Καλοκαίρι στην πισίνα» είναι, τελικά, μια όμορφη εμπειρία ανάγνωσης! Μου άρεσε κυρίως πως εμβάθυνε σε κάθε χαρακτήρα! Ξεχωρίζω πολύ το αίσθημα της επίτευξης των «καλοκαιρινών στόχων» του κάθε χαρακτήρα!

Άποψη μου για γονείς: Ο συγγραφέας θίγει σημαντικά ζητήματα όπως παιδιά με προβλήματα αναπηρίας, μετανάστευση, οικογένεια, μάθηση, αθλητισμός, κανόνες. Προτείνω να συζητηθούν μετά για να κρίνει ένας γονέας το βαθμό κατανόησης από το παιδί του.

Für mich eines der besten Kinder-/Jugendbücher, das ich in den letzten Jahren gelesen habe. Absolut authentisch, realistisch geschrieben, mit liebenswerten Charakteren die ich richtig ins Herz schließen konnte. Ich hatte das Buch für meinen 9-jährigen Sohn in der Bücherei ausgeliehen, es im Sommerurlaub (es ist die PERFEKTE Sommerlektüre) gelesen und sofort entschlossen, es zu kaufen. Mein Sohn muss es noch lesen, werde die Rezension dann entsprechend seiner Meinung erweitern!

Questo è un libro leggero: non nel senso che è un libro sciocco che tratta argomenti facilmente dimenticabili e poco impegnativi, ma nel senso che si tratta di una lettura delicata, a cui ci si deve approcciare in punta di piedi. Non è una storia potente, non ha una voce forte con cui gridare i punti saldi di una trama trascinante, ma è piuttosto una finestra che si apre sulla vita dei tre fratelli Bukowski. È una finestra che lascia intravedere solo una fetta sottile della loro vita, ed è una finestra da cui loro non hanno interesse a guardare: la storia non è al servizio del lettore, ma è il lettore che deve mettersi al servizio della storia, avendo voglia di ascoltare e provare a cogliere tutti i piccoli semi apparentemente insignificanti ma che, con la giusta attenzione, possono crescere fino a trasformarsi in un racconto dalla vera e propria forza. 


L’estate di cui racconta questo libro acquisisce importanza se vista nell’ottica del ricordo: è un’estate fatta di piccoli eventi che sono straordinari perché rappresentano piccoli grandi momenti di crescita dei personaggi. Non sono episodi in grado di cambiare la vita, non è un’estate che rappresenta il cardine di un “prima” e di un “dopo” inequivocabile, ma sono elementi che acquisiscono importanza con la prospettiva del tempo. 

Ecco, forse qui c’è proprio quell’unico elemento che non mi ha convinta del tutto di un libro che ho comunque molto apprezzato: i tre fratelli Bukowski sembrano possedere già questa prospettiva. Vivono questa estate con la consapevolezza della rilevanza che potrebbe assumere nei loro ricordi, e se da un lato è una prospettiva che consola il lettore adulto, che un po’ lo coccola e gli fa sentire meno i rimpianti di tutti i momenti sprecati, nell’ottica di un lettore giovane (che è poi il target di questo libro) la cosa risulta forse poco incisiva e realistica. 


Insomma, è un libro per bambini che piace agli adulti, ma che forse non riesce a trovare la giusta lingua per parlare ai suoi lettori.

Wenn in einem Buch komplizierte Themen (Armut, ADS, Zivilcourage...) so geschickt "auf der Hinterbühne" behandelt werden, dass es zur Lieblingsgeschichte der Kinder taugt, weiß ich, dass ich ein ganz besonderes Buch in der Hand halte - so besonders, dass ich es von Herzen gerne vorgelesen habe, anstatt es die Kinder selbst lesen zu lassen.

Una lettura davvero piacevole che fa immergere il lettore nella vita di tre ragazzini ai quali immediatamente ci si affeziona e li si lascia con un po' di nostalgia alla fine del libro.
E' il racconto delicato e leggero di una estate, di incontri, di piccoli - grandi - traguardi. Con spunti di riflessione.
Da leggere in classe o a un circolo di lettura per ragazzi.

Tre fratelli e un'intera estate trascorsa nella piscina comunale all'aperto. Una storia apparentemente piana, anche nello stile narrativo, che a poco a poco ci porta dentro la vita dei fratelli Bukowski e dell'intera famiglia. Una narrazione che coglie lo straordinario nell'ordinario. Quello che sa fare l'infanzia.
Si trascorre un'estate insieme a Alf, Katinka e Robbie e si cresce con loro.
Lettura consigliatissima.
