This is not a book of quilt patterns, although there are a few included. It is full of beautiful quilts that illustrate the basic principles of modern quilting explained in the text. And most importantly, there are guided exercises throughout, done with paper or fabric, to help you explore the principles being explained in a more hands on way. It’s like a multi-day workshop in a book, and a great option for quilters who want to begin designing their own modern quilts.

There's one pattern/set of instructions (literally one page) for a "shapes" quilt that I can use with panel prints that come in varying sizes. But much of it is straight line quilting, circles and half-circles, and shapes piecing, and I'm looking for something that's more modern but not so angular and "boxy." Got it from my public library, as I highly recommend everyone do before deciding whether to order used on the 'Zon. Enjoy!

The first part is color theory with examples of modern quilts by different quilters. Then the last half is the Bible part. Which is no different than any other quilt book. Except the is small. I think it would be better as 2 separate books or just elaborate on the second half. Especially since the font is small.

Overall a nice book with techniques and ideas. Since more traditional designs with only a slight modern twist are most appealing to me, the design ideas in this book didn't 'speak to me'.

This book is a helpful resource for someone just starting to quilt. Although it focuses on Modern Quilting, the techniques presented could be used by any type of quilter.

The perfect resource for a beginner that wants to learn how to quilt! I borrowed a copy from the library/Libby and I’m definitely going to invest in a copy for myself!!!

great book

A solid book. No chinz-y florals in sight! Back in the 21st Century. I need to see more men and Trans people in this quilting space.
